Recently i have upgraded my phone, have rooted it, and gotten all my apps installed. im having a bit of trouble locating a non "touch" recovery for my device. My previous phone was a Sprint Samsung Galaxy S2(Epic 4G Touch) and i had AGAT recovery installed. im running a rooted stock rom and can flash recoveries from mobile odin.
does anyone know of, or have any suggestions for a non "touch" recovery that looks like(or is) AGAT on my s2?

You can use volume buttons with cm touch, plus I believe there is a regular cm version for our phone.

thanks for the link. for some reason i couldnt find any recoveries when i searched, or at least any singular ones. and the faqs thread never popped up in my searches. your link eventually led me to a recovery that i was able to flash from odin and allow me to update to the newest one.
now i was under the impression that all of CWM recoveries were touch only, and the same with TWRP. im not sure about TWRP, but i know now that CWM has both touch and non touch.
As far as I know TWRP for the SGS3 is Touch only.

Is it safe to run CWM red on mytouch 4 g? i searched the forum but came up empty.
#1) Wrong section
#2) I doubt it, and not sure why you'd want to run it. Does a mod require that version? If not, there's no reason not to run 3.0.2.4.

#1) I wasn't sure what section to post in. i figured "myTouch 4G Android Development" would be the section to ask it in. sorry
#2) I'm only asking because i am coming from a Samsung Mesmerize and CWM 3.0.2.4 wouldn't work on that phone, so i had to use red.
So ROM Manager with CWM 3.0.2.4 will work on myTouch4G?
And again I'm sorry for posting in wrong section.

Ok thanks for your help.
Yeah just flash CWM 3.0.2.4 that's what almost everyone is using on their MyTouch 4G and as of now it works with all roms.

get your samsung experience completely out of your head. the samsung is an entirely different beast. if you had problems with it on your samsung, its probably due to recovery 3e, and there was plenty of info out there on how to fix that. the samsung world is completely different. modems instead of radios, stupid samsung's RFS instead of ext3/4 or yaffs, touchwiz, odin, heimdall, etc.... its a nightmare for android honestly. i have found my mt4g's and my desire z to be much better devices when it comes to flashing.... and nandroids. wtf is up with samsung and their stupid proprietary crap that would prevent nandroids from backing up the kernel and modem??
Hey guys. Ive been using this forum for a long time. Just recently registered to start actively participating. Ive rooted and used roms before, so i am not completely green.
Anyway i got a sprint samsung epic 4g touch yesterday. I have already rooted once using odin and gone back to stock.
What i cant find anywhere is why certain roms can apparenly be flashed onto the phone with odin and others require cwm. I have not been able to get cwm installed yet.
This is my first post so thanks and please be gentle.

In theory any ROM that can be flashed in CWM can be flashed in ODIN. It just takes different setup work.
In practice, it is easier to flash ROMs through CWM if that is all you are updating.
Personally I only use ODIN if I want to update many different components (for example modem, kernel, and ROM) to a known state as it is more convenient to use a single package.
For day to day stuff usually use CWM.

You may know this already, but easiest way I've found to install CWM is by following the instructions in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728
Rooted my (Sprint) S3 a month or so ago. The instructions I followed had me put v5.0.2.0 on it. There is a much newer version, correct?
I'd like to be able to do OTA updates and understand that that is possible with a newer version of CWM, but to get *that* version (v6.0.x.x?), I have to copy the file over via cable, correct?
Thanks.
(I still have the stock ROM)

Recovery is just normal CWM. Touch has the touch recovery ui in it. I just use the regular version but people swear by Touch and TWRP type recoveries.

.img file question
nm
Ok. Couldn't figure this out. Downloaded both versions of the ROMs from here:
http://clockworkmod.com/rommanager
I put them in the root of the internal SD card. But they are .IMG files and when I booted into the CWM menu, I couldn't select them. Another web site said to name it "<something>.zip", so I tried. I renamed it on my PC, but I couldn't copy it over to the phone; kept giving me an error.
So I got tired and just paid the money for the registered version of ROM Manager. I clicked "Apply CWM Recovery" or something like that, now when I reboot, it's stuck at "Downloading... Do not turn off target !!"
I'm Googling this, but would appreciate any help you folks can offer. Thanks.
Flash this is Odin http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1346628&d=1348358996
Or start over by flashing this in Odin https://rapidshare.com/files/3987532545/L710VPALI3_STOCK_UNROOTED(ICS).7z
Odin- https://rapidshare.com/files/18638682/Odin307.zip
Ok. I pulled out the battery before I saw your post. Looks like it's not bricked, at least.
1) How do I tell if I have the most current version? When I fire up ROM Manager, it says v5.0.2.1. Underneath it says both "Current" and "Latest" Recovery are both v6.0.1.2. I think that means I have the latest and greatest of both.
2) If I paid $1.99 for the "paid" version, why do I still see ads?
3) I started this whole debacle because Sprint kept bugging me about a system update and it didn't work OTA. I don't know how to use "Kies Air" and I thought this would help me. Is this right?

I never was a fan of the touch myself. I rather hit up and down arrow keys lol.
Ok. I have the latest CWM now. Thanks.
How do apply the update from Sprint now?

You cannot apply an OTA when a custom recovery is installed.
Truth is, you don't really need to update via OTA. You can update your software by flashing a ROM based on the version you want (LG8, LI3, etc.), or you can choose to only update your baseband/modem (baseband doesn't have to match your build), or you can choose to load the kernel of your choice.
Go into the Android Development forum and do some research on the TouchWiz ROMs available there.

Ask in tmobile s2 forum, not here. And not in development forum, but in Q&A forum.
I'm not sure how to uninstall clockwork, but if you're looking to switch to TWRP, you can just install it from Goo Manager ( should overwrite CWM ). I think it's the install open recovery script option.
Russian smashed across the interwebz from my T-Mobile Galaxy S2.
You can't "uninstall" a recovery. The best you can do is overwrite it. Options are to reinstall cwm, install twrp (goo manager should be fine for this), or revert to stock rom using odin to get stock recovery back. I personally recommend twrp. To me there are too many cwm clones/branches/versions, and most have some sort of problem. Never had a problem not using "super wipes" on twrp.

I just rooted my fiance's epic 4g/samsung galaxy s2 with Odin (she was/is on FJ12 firmware) and after rooting, I am just wondering how I would go about flashing a new rom onto it. Is it safe to use android recovery to flash a rom with CWM? Just wondering where to go from here. Rooted 3 devices and flashed them but they usually came with CWM. Not sure about android recovery

FJ12 is virgin mobile.
I have no idea if flashing roms for you will be same as flashing for sprint. I have steps listed here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1953783 but thats keeping sprint in mind.
Well, I got my rooting from here. Doesn't say anything about flashing a new rom onto it though. :\

Same H/W (just like my MVNO) - just different settings.
Flash as if it's Sprint but keep in mind that MMS will break until you manually correct and things will show as Sprint, not Virgin. Not sure if 4G will need the realm changed or not...
