So here's the problem...
Just installed the 4.4 update and when my tablet booted I used an app called "Whatsapp" just fine...
Then I went ahead and changed to ART from dalvik .... When the tab rebooted Whatsapp would just force close...
So I tired uninstall and re-install ...but it wouldn't install again ("app not installed")
Tried switching back to dalvik ...still no use...
Any ideas ??

Try clearing cache/dalvik-cache in custom recovery.

Thanks in advance

In case you want to use 'WhatsApp' without rooting/flashing your device the only option is to 'Factory reset' your phone.
But if you are open to to flash the device, follow this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2527879

I'm using a fully rooted (a2sd dt) stock htc desire.
Sometimes when I install an application, it will reboot at the 2nd boot screen (quietly brilliant)
I say sometimes because after a couple of hours and I try it again it will install but if I download another app , the phone will restart on that new app.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Same problem happened to me. I did a factory reset, cache wipe and it's back to normal

What rom are you using?
the same thing used to happen to me when installing applanet (stock ROM) , i considered it normal as if the app needs a reboot to function properly

The app doesn't install. It restarts when installing.
Hi...
The test version on next Gmail 4.2 is out and here is the way how you can get in on your phone?
1. Open TB (Titanium Backup)
2. Take backup of Gmail app then uninstall it from TB itself
3. Reboot in recovery
4. Flash the zip (http://d-h.st/1C9)
5. Reboot and enjoy
p.s. - Its running fine on my phone and in case you face any issue then delete the Gmail2.apk from system/app and restore the old gmail from TB.
Thanks to Ron Amadeo who posted this over AndroidPolice
---In case anyone has any issue with this...please pm me.
cheers,
erpurohit
Thank erpurohit!
I'd do everything in your steps, except not uninstall the older gmail app.
I uninstalled first time and then kept getting update notification from Play Store (i.e. it didn't recognize the v4.2 installed).
Then I re-installed V4.2 without unintstalling V4.1 and no more notification.
flashed the zip, without unistalling old gmail because titanium backup kept crashing..
now I'm stuck at the remics-JB logo

I think you can revert back to original one by using the backup created during flashing and saved in your sdcard/universalflasher
or try clearing the dalvik, cache.
I just renamed the old one to gmail.bak and copied the new file to /system/app folder thenc hanged the permissions to 644 and rebooted it works like a charm

you can also try to rename the file using aroma installer in recovery.

Is the problem fixed bro?
You probasbly had another issue to begin with.
tb contantly crashing on backup is a bad sign.
Good luck bro!
Pinch to zoom? Awesome! I think it is a bummer that it took google that long to implement the feature.
Thanks!

Hi guys, hope somebody could help me to install apps on my note 2, rooted, but i use stock rom 4.1.1 android version...my son accidentally uninstalled my facebook apps and now i am unable to install it back. Everytime i tried it always says "insufficient memory", currently i have 8.65 GB free on my internal with a total size of 10.36GB usable space..i tried deleting the facebook in the delvak cache but still no go...I am unable to update the built in apps since i rooted my note 2..pls help..
Hi,
have you tried to wipe cache? not only the dalvik cache? This will force android to recreate his cache (oh and btw i dont know if your note 2 is concerned by the sudden death but you should update to 4.1.2)
thanks

recent problem...everytime I reboot i get this message android is upgrading optimizing apps. Samsung Galaxy S3 SGH-I747 running 4.3 JSS15J.I747UCUEMJB. How can I fix it, or even wipe it and start out from a factory state. I did restore from "Backup and Restore" that didn't change anything except wipe out apps.
This normally happens when dalvik cache is getting rebuilt.
yes but why is it rebuilt every reboot?

Tried that via Rom Manager already
I have just wiped my Nexus 7 and try to reset it several times and when I choose ART for developer options it just restarts the device but I found that the Dalvik cache is still selected as runtime .
My device is rooted and I have installed ElementalX kernel.
Any suggestions ?
Do you have xposed installed? If so, that's why, it will revert to dalvik to protect you from a bootloop.
I was installing xposed but I have uninstalled it and reset the device and the same issue here !

When you say uninstalled xposed, do you mean you used the system uninstaller, or the in-app uninstall, or did you flash the xposed disabler?
What do you mean by reset?
Unless by reset you mean you wiped and completely reinstalled your ROM, I would flash your system.img over it, that will insure there is no xposed remnants.
Thank you, after flashing the factory image I was able to witch to ART again ?
