[Q] can't switch to ART - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I have just wiped my Nexus 7 and try to reset it several times and when I choose ART for developer options it just restarts the device but I found that the Dalvik cache is still selected as runtime .
My device is rooted and I have installed ElementalX kernel.
Any suggestions ?

Do you have xposed installed? If so, that's why, it will revert to dalvik to protect you from a bootloop.

I was installing xposed but I have uninstalled it and reset the device and the same issue here !

When you say uninstalled xposed, do you mean you used the system uninstaller, or the in-app uninstall, or did you flash the xposed disabler?
What do you mean by reset?
Unless by reset you mean you wiped and completely reinstalled your ROM, I would flash your system.img over it, that will insure there is no xposed remnants.

Thank you, after flashing the factory image I was able to witch to ART again ?

[Q] PA3+ Home and apps not working

My boyfriend's Gnex was having problems so I told him to update his phone. We were both using Rufdroid and since I wanted to try a new rom with 4.3 OS I flashed my phone first. I went quite nicely and I'm loving PA3+ right now. Problem is when my bf flashed his gnex following the same steps I did with mine, his home soft key and most apps aren't working. he tried to reflash the rom and reinstall the apps but it's still the same. how can I fix this??
Did he dirty flashed the ROM?

I followed the steps on the PA3+ thread here.

What he meant was did he not do a factory reset, clear cache and clear dalvik when he flashed the ROM?
You have to do a factory reset which deletes the previous OS (including all your apps) then only flash PA3+.
Factory Reset ALONG with SYSTEM wipe
he did all that

System wipe is wasted step. The install script formats the /system partition for you.
Factory reset alone is sufficient for a new ROM flash.

Got the problem solved. I changed the recovery from TWRP to CWM and reflashed the rom. There was an error during the installation, but now it's working great.
Anyway, thanks for your help. :good:

[Q] problem installing app after 4.4 update

So here's the problem...
Just installed the 4.4 update and when my tablet booted I used an app called "Whatsapp" just fine...
Then I went ahead and changed to ART from dalvik .... When the tab rebooted Whatsapp would just force close...
So I tired uninstall and re-install ...but it wouldn't install again ("app not installed")
Tried switching back to dalvik ...still no use...
Any ideas ??

Try clearing cache/dalvik-cache in custom recovery.

In case you want to use 'WhatsApp' without rooting/flashing your device the only option is to 'Factory reset' your phone.
But if you are open to to flash the device, follow this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2527879

Which version of GApps did you install? Have you tried rebooting into recovery mode and clearing the Cache and Dalvik Cache? Also, did you do a factory reset before flashing ThunderROM?

No GAPPs needed for thunderom. I tried the rom before and had no crashes. Probably the way he installed it?

Yeah, I'm thinking it was the way he installed it - probably forgot to do a factory reset.

Can't flash xposed

I've been trying to flash xposed on latest rooted stock rom in the latest twrp but it doesn't seem to stick. When flashing the file there's no error message and it does mount the system for read/write, but when the phone restarts it doesn't register xposed. I've tried flashing v84 and v86. I've flashed xposed many times before but never encountered this issue. What could be the reason for this?
Same thing happened to me yesterday. Are you clearing your caches before and after flashing? I had to do a fresh install of the latest ROM, clear caches, Root, clear caches, Boot into recovery, flash xposed, clear caches. Then it installed I'm on 3.2.2 with v86 ARM-64.
Thanks for the reply! It didn't work unfortunately. Still doesn't stick. Never experienced that before.. very odd

Having the same issue here on stock OOS. I've flashed xposed a bunch of times without issue. Now it just doesn't stick for some reason.
did u use the arm64 version also have u tried systemless root, i have more success with that than the other xposed
Same problem here :/
if anyone found a fix, please help
Had the same issue, solved it by :
EDIT: make sure to have a pc with adb/fastboot close to you, for me the clean flash also flashed stock recovery. You could also possibly (haven't tried that) flash twrp itself right after flashing the full zip
Wipe system/cache/dalvik
Flash ONLY full zip - Reboot
Flash ONLY Supersu - reboot
Flash xposed - reboot - should work
No clearing caches after the very first wipe! Installed EX Kernel after xposed, too.
Hope this helps
I got it sorted by flashing the latest version of FreedomOS. Xposed works fine on that one

Power off automatically after updating to OB8

I updated from OB7 to OB8 but when I finished updating the phone shows me power off message then boots recovery evey time. I had magisk installed with flash kernel 4.13 before updating.

Did you have Submitted installed and forgot to uninstall the overlays? Also did you full wipe or at the very least wipe Dalvik and Cache?

Do I have to uninstall substratum themes? Yes I didn't do that, but I did wipe caches. Do I have to wipe system as well?

You need to remove all Substratum themes/overlays or you'll likely have problems. Completely uninstall the overlays if you haven't already and do so I'm the future. It's easy to forget but you need to get into the habit of doing so before you update your OS.
Doesn't happen all the time in my experience but can cause problems like yours often enough.

It's always a good idea to start from scratch if you have problems but if for whatever reason that's not ideal then in TWRP tap install and scroll down to the substratum folder and select "SubstratumRescue.zip". Flash that and it will allow to to boot up again.
