Hello new to the forums. I have been rattled once again by the s3. Finally a problem I haven't really found too many solutions to and plus don't want to increase my chance of completely destroying my phone. Now. I have a Virgin Mobile phone in the US. Was on 4.1.2 but to flash to cricket I was trying to downgrade down to 4.0.4 from JB to ICS. Pretty much during this process not doing my homework I used odin and put the phone in download mode and figured oh Sprints rom should work since SPH-L710 is the same model and completely being wrong. I have been searching around google because I am soft bricked. Here is my assumption of soft brick. When Odin finishes the screen goes red stating the recovery files cannot be found and it wont read my sd card. Still able to go to download mode but not reboot mode. Hence, Soft Brick. Been trying to get out and recently took off a sticker seeing C-Spire. Now I remember seeing this while I was reading my XDA forums so I figured why not. Found some youtube videos googled and fond J7 for C-Spire. So close, but the link didn't exist or something. So... My conclusion finally made an account and finally asking for help the correct way. Please provide links and comments to help me out here would love this s3 back on track. Hope I followed the rules. I did honestly search the forums one had c-spire, but link was dead. My luck man. Thanks in advance.
Wanted to also add. Maybe with this I wanted to for a while, but never had the clear instructions on this nor want to repeat the process of screwing up my phone AGAIN after fixing it. Any good ROMs for the s3 C-Spire SPH-L710? For Example, Would love to use that multi-window with anything and I tried pacman not loving the whole ics not using the home button preferably JB I think which is stock whatever is stock. I loved the XMT launcher and the whole PIE thing. Just let me know guys. Ahead Apologies for the noob questions if they are.
this help http://www.sxtpdevelopers.com/showthread.php?t=55
you should beable to flash that. then just let the phone update.
Still trying it out at the moment just downloading it, but if it does fix this and so on whats some good roms for the C-Spire or im presuming this does not ever fall in the catergory of sprint but cspire yes?

I don't have the c-spire, but once you flash the stock rom from the earlier post, you should be able to root and set yourself up with XMT and pie controls on the stock rom. They are stand alones and you can add them yourself, without looking for a custom rom for it.

Hey guys, i have a few questions which quite honestly are really difficult to find answers for as I go around the forum.
1) My phone is a Bell Model, so I guess the SGH-I747M, Is there any difference physically to the SGH-I747 that AT&T uses? (I suspect not)
2) When I go into recovery, (volume up+home key+power), It takes me to what appears to be the default android recovery. How do i install Clockworkmod recovery and is there a direct link to the SGH-I747 CWM file?
3) Is there any way to flash Kyan or Diet ICS onto my phone using ODIN? Quite honestly, I am a bit scared considering I do not have CWM (From point #2 above) and want to run a custom ROM as the existing one is a bit too bloated for me.
4) I am confused about NANDROID and Busybox and their purpose
Thank you for your help/time.
Hey there! This thread pretty much explains everything you need to get started with flashing. >>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29465473&postcount=1 <<<<
Please take the time to read everything dont just skip to the end to try find the holy grail.
Its very easy to turn your phone into a $700 paper weight if you dont pay close attention/understand what you're doing!! Take my advice as when I first got my S3 I came directly to XDA and went to the top of the page and did a search for devices, Galaxy s3 and it found the incorrect forum, I installed the wrong rom cause I wasnt paying attention.. and ended up hard bricking my 24 hour old phone. Its off to get repaired right now so please... take the time to read and dont make my mistake
Thanks for the help. I ended up figuring it all out.
Here are the steps I took for DIET ICS.

I am flabbergasted at my new note 2. I got it a few weeks ago, I set it up how I wanted it and everything was fine. The wifi at home works flawlessly. When I try to connect at work, it will connect for about 30 seconds and then the wifi turns itself off. I'm now on vacation and the wifi here acts exactly like it does at work, connects for about 30 seconds and then turns off. I have looked all over these forums, including forums on the other iterations of the phone to no avail. I can't seem to get it to work. Any suggestions? Will flashing the ROM potentially fix the problem?
I've been never flashed a phone before, but it sounds like a nightmare for a newb like me. I wouldn't be able to replace the phone if I turned it into a paperweight. Is it worth the risk? I've been trying to do my research, but it's daunting with everything involved. Any suggestions onI certain posts I should read? I just can't stand the bloatware companies add to devices. I do build my own PCs, but that seems like cake compared to flashing a new ROM. I just don't know where to start... Any suggestions would be more than helpful.
Thanks in advance for any help!
Try disabling at the smart wifi app in system settings. That fixed my wifi problems.

Wow! That's all it took... Stupid bloatware. This has definitely made up my mind about rooting my phone. If I want to root my note 2 with the Jedi ROM, where should I start looking and learning about doing it. I don't want a super expensive brick... Thanks again for the solution.

I have been reading all morning... I'm still not sure what I need to do exactly. Do I download all of those files to my phone and do everything from here or is part of this process done on the PC? I was reading in a separate part of the forum about having to download Odin (I believe) and using it to flash the ROM? Also, I use AT&T, I'm assuming that's the carrier files I need but I don't see them on the Jedi ROM page. Does this mean Iccan't flash that ROM with my carrier? When it says desired modem, does that mean that's optional or I need to pick one? And do I have to do that at the time of flashing the ROM or can I do that at a later time? What is nandroid and what do I use it for? Next, what is the factory data reset? I've downloaded CWM, do I use that app to wipe the system? How do I actually flash the system? How do I wipe the cache and what is dalvik? What permissions need to be fixed and how do you do that? How do I flash the carrier files, modem and add-ons? Do I need to do that at the time of flashing the ROM or can it be done later?
This is my first attempt at flashing and have no idea what I'm doing, even after days of trying to figure it out. I have a gazillion questions... This forum is amazing and everyone is super helpful, but it would be nice if there were some kind of general flashing guide or maybe a general FAQ. I didn't find the search function of the forums too helpful. It seemed that the results weren't even anything close to what I was looking for. anyway, thanks again for the help and sorry about all the questions.
Upgraded to the Jelly Bean 4.1.2 and now every time I turn on the WIFI it ask me for the password. After entering the password the phone shuts off, restarts, and the WIFI is on and works.
Why after upgrading does the phone shut off when starting the WIFI and what is the fix for it?
Phone is a Samsung Galaxy S2.
I thought the upgrade would be better.
Thank you in advance

Being that you're on 4.1.2 and you didn't say otherwise, I'm assuming you're stock... unrooted..
Now this is just guess work on my part.. but I would try to wipe cache in you're stock recovery and reboot...
Outside of that... I would suggest doing the upgrade again.. as something might not have stuck during the installation...
If any of this doesn't seem to work... I would just backup my data and Odin the stock gb27 full restore one-click...found in rwilco's repo... that way you know you're partitions are correct for JB and you will still be stock... remember... the full restore will wipe you're data... so back it up..
There is a rooted and an unrooted version...

That is true. The reason I updated to Jelly Bean was because I want to Root and figured it would be wise to have the latest operating system.

OK I will look that up on how to do it - unless you have a link that explains it or care to tell me. And believe me I appreciate your help a lot!

Good idea. I was a little hesitant because I thought more could go wrong. Worth a try!

OK, would you be able to provide a link on what you mean or explain it to me? This is rather new to me.

Good idea. Do you recommend a particular way of backing it up or particular program?

IMO, if a picture is worth a 1,000 words, a video is worth 1,000,000.
The first time I rooted my phone I watched a bunch of videos on youtube. Search QBKing77 on youtube and he has a ton of videos on the rooting, DL mode, etc. There is probably one on GB27 One Click Exe stock rooted.
There are stickies in our forum that will link you to rwilco's depository of everything you need to get the job done, but watch it a few times first. I would link, but he has asked us not to which is good because indirectly, it will make you search and find the right files to use.
@SkidMarx
No worries...
If you can't find the gb27 one-click or you want a little guidance on how to use odin( QBKing's video is great )...don't be afraid to ask.. ( but please post in the noob friendly Q & A section.. myself and others far smarter than me.. lol. Check that thread all the time...
As for rooting... once you have the one-click installed ( rooted or unrooted version ) if you run into any problems with root access. There is an app called framaroot that will root this device.. it uses an exploit and is very simple and quick..
Also... if you want to try to wipe cache first before using Odin... turn you're phone off... let it power down complete.. now hold the power button and the volume up button ( simultaneously ) until the Samsung screen pops up for the second time.. then release and that should boot you to stock recovery...
Now it's been awhile since I was on any stock recovery.. but there should be an option to wipe cache ( only wipe cache )..after the wipe.. reboot the device.. ( I have little faith that this will fix you're problem, but it's easy to do before we go flashing anything else )
Like I said above... if you want a little guidance don't be afraid to ask... but as said in the above post.. if you search and read first.. it will be easier for you in the long haul. .as well as easier for us to help you..
Good Luck.... and Welcome to XDA... Epic 4g Touch forum..

I tried to root it and now all I get is a the words on the screen Samsung then galaxy 3 then nothing but a blue light blinking light in the upper left hand corner I am new to all this so pleas use little words LOL. How can I fix this its my business phone so time is of the essence
Need more info. How did you root, what files did you use. Can you get into download mode(phone powered off, press volume down+home+power)? If you can get into download mode then use odin and the correct tar file to reflash it to stock. I'll try to dig up some links.

Yeah what he said. And unfortunately I don't think there is one I was trying to find a link. It really does matter what carrier you have when you're rooting flashing ROMs ect.

Sch-s960L help!!
It seems that there are a number of Straight Talk users who didn't bother to read before flashing. Many have asked but so far it doesn't look like anyone has volunteered the stock firmware.
However, I saw a few forum posts stating that SlimBean worked for them. Might as well try it, nothing to lose at this point.
what is this and how do I use it
I am not sure who but somebody from this forums sent me this file com.android.vending-423.apk. Who ever it was thank I am sure you were trying to help. However I don't know what to do with it. I cant nothing shows on my screen to download a converter off playstore so it hasn't helped but thanks anyway. if somebody could convert it for me I would be grateful. if in fact it is meant for my phone.
That's an apk for the playstore, click it and it installs. It will do absolutely nothing to fix your brick.
First of all I apologize if I posted this on the wrong forum. I am an XDA fan, this is where all get all the goodies for my phone but never actually post.
I flashed SlimBean4.3OfficialBuild1 along with the gapps they provided on their site (SlimMinimalGapps4.3Build1). As always I keep my apps backed up with TitaniumBackup but I downloaded the apps and it said my device wasn't rooted. I checked USB Debugging and enabled it and still no luck, then i downloaded SU from playstore and it gave me same message, no root. I do not know what it is and I am frustrated its late and I need to get up early. I will leave the phone as it is till I find a solution. Another big BIG issue is the screen flickering I have been getting and looked all over the web and i could not find a solution. I only been getting the screen issues with android 4.3 on all the roms I tried so far. I did get those screen flicker a long time ago but I thought it was because of the ROM i was on then I switched to another one and it was all good. I you would please help me find a solution to this. I feel like throwing my phone to the wall. I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 i747. THANKS IN ADVANCED.
I had to change the superuser app that I'm using before TB will register. I'm using SuperSU but I have to manually update it sometimes, or just download superuser from Store. Download Root Checker
(https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.freeandroidtools.root_checker) and it'll tell you if you're rooted or not. The flickering is way beyond me. I'm way too weak in the Force to go into 4.3 ROMS yet.

You have to activate root on 4.3 ROMs. Its settings>development>root set it to apps and/or adb.

Well, I had to re-flash a SuperSU update and that seemed to fix the prob. Even just flashing the latest nightly unrooted my phone. I'll try and find the link for you. Also, try a system, cache, and dalvic wipe.
