Hi Guys...
I'm a complete Android noob, and an idiot to boot... I bought a UK Galaxy Nexus SIM free last week, and flashed it with ClockworkMod over the weekend in preparation for CM9.
when i went to boot into Recovery, I got the droid with his Chest open, but no options to access anything / ROM / etc...
So I searched the market for a Custom Recovery, thinking this was what I needed... the second i tapped 'install' my phone seemed to trip out (almost like a fuse tripping, but quietly...
Now my phone won't turn on / boot up / or anything... After screaming and shouting at my self for being such a c*ck I looked online at the Market to see what it was I had just installed on my (now) £500 paper weight, and turns out i have installed an ACER tablet recovery image.
I use Mac iOS-X Lion, and my adb won't detect it at all...
What do i do...???? My knowledge of this stuff is... well... not good enough to have been playing around in the first place... can someone please point me in the right direction to get a Samsung Bootloader / recovery / whatever, and tell me how i load it up
thanks
If you have battery pulled and your phone won't turn on, even after charging, there is not much anyone can do.
Oh dear oh dear oh dear...
First thing, pull the battery and put it back in. Then hold down volume up AND down and then press the power button whilst continuing to hold the volume buttons. If you're lucky you'll get into fastboot mode. If you do, you can then flash the stock image back onto the device (see this guide for instruction on that).
Assuming it works, you can thank yourself lucky and walk away safe in the knowledge that READING UP ON THINGS YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND WILL HELP YOU IN THE FUTURE
Should also point out the above is all for Windows so get yourself a decent OS and you should be OK
It shouldn't brick while flashing recovery - is that all you did? Which app did you use?

It depends on where recovery was flashed (as in, destination of flash).
? why dont you go for where you bought the device ! they will probably take money for fixing it but better thant throw it in the rubbish
Not really the answer i was looking for
Just come off the phone to the person that is looking at it for me... Odin seems to be detecting it, so he 'thinks'... he might be able to push factory firm where back on it... although, its gonna cost me a fortune
Fingers crossed...

Ok... if you want a laugh (at my expense)... I flashed Acer Recovery Installer on to it... was too eager to get it done, and just presumed because it was in the market, it would work
I feel like a complete ar5e and I'm sure if this guy fixes is, I'm gonna be paying top dollar for it...

You really shouldnt be paying anything for it. It sounds like you could have done it yourself reading through the guides in the dev section...if you aren't going to take the time to read and learn, you shouldn't be rooting and flashing...

I wouldn't have charged you to get it working personally, just that you covered the cost of postage
If it can get into ODIN then you should be OK. Get any random Nexus FW on it to get it booting then use the factory images to get the latest official FW back on it and job done
1. Download a valid CWM image to your computer (toro or maguro).
2. Reboot into bootloader mode (hold vol up/down + power with the phone off, or adb reboot bootloader)
3. fastboot flash recovery C:\path\to\recovery.img
Done.

i got a sprint samsung galaxy s 2. and last night i think i put a wrong kernel on it all i am able to to is reboot it like if i was going to install from sd card or load from odin only info i can see is it says ICS SIYAHKERNEL and CWMR TOUCH V5.5.0.4 can someone help me out with a tar kernel so i can get my phone working
thanks
Sounds like you put the wrong firmware on you phone! IF you have a Sprint Epic 4G Touch you must put on the firmware that is specific to it. If you flashed another ROM, Kernel, or other software (ATT?)etc. you have probably just made an expensive paper weight.
PLEASE take some time to read, read again and then read thoroughly through the many stickies and posts here.
IF you do have the Epic 4G Touch (whick is why I'm assuming you are posting here and said Sprint) AND you can get into download mode (Volume down and power button at same time till you see the Samsung logo then let go) then you should try to use sfhub's one-click Odin for EL29 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101 use the 'Reset Data' option and hopefully you will have your phone back. Watch Qbking77's videos too!
Otherwise take it back and tell them something happened and plays stupid.

Not enough info. More info so you can get some help, like exact model of phone, source for whatever it was that you flashed or odined into your phone.

"Read, Read again, Read some more!" this is the number one thing to do before ever even beginning the flashing process. I think I read and followed the threads for a couple months before ever trying to flash a new rom on my E4GT.
Then I made sure to go to the Settings>about Phone and wrote down everything, or take a picture of it whatever works. Then Watch any video associated with what you are doing until you have a good idea of what you are gonna do and the process that needs followed, and never skip a wipe if it says to do it!
For me I went with the "one click" method quoted above, because I found it to be the best, safest, and simplest tbh.
Then I followed the directions for install Clockwork after that, the easiest i found was e4gtauto-lite! This is a must have, as well as the paid version of Titanium Backup! e4gtauto will give you the recovery console you need to make a nand backup of your "working" phone in case something craps out.
Then you can reboot to recovery if it isn't totally bricked and restore your backup!
I also make folders for each rom i install and setup on my pc so I can put the related items such as backups, themes, modems etc for that specific rom in there in case my backup on my phone gets corrupted! < I think this is a must, at least for me!
Enough Long winded, wanted to share what I found worked for me! That way you hopefully only have to "play dumb" at Sprint once, if at all! Do the one click Odin from the quoted post from download mode if you can get in then once up and running follow directions at that post for the CWM install.
Last but not least read the Rom threads carefully before flashing them, a screenshot may look cool but 100 pages in you may find that others are having issues that you may care to avoid!
Hope this helps!
I want to install the Blazer ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363071), but I'm new to rooting and flashing ROMs onto my device as this is my first Android device ever.
I was watching qbking77's video on installing the Blazer ROM, and he said that I needed CWM 5.0.2.7, but I believe he also said somewhere in the comments on some of his other videos that Rouge doesn't work as well as the (normal?) CWM 5.0.2.7? Is this true? Because I followed Zedomax's tutorial to root and install CWM and he uses Rogue, so I was wondering if this would mess with my phone at all.
Also, I heard that using the stock EL29 rom is usually unstable when installing ICS ROMs and that I should flash EL26 if I plan on using any ICS ROMs. Would it also be bad to try flashing the Blazer ROM without flashing an EL26 ROM and/or regular CWM or can I just go ahead and flash Blazer with my stock rooted EL29 E4GT with Rogue CWM 5.0.2.7?
Long story short: Can I just flash the Blazer ROM from stock EL29 Rooted with Rogue CWM 5.0.2.7 or do I need/should to do other things before attempting to flash this ROM? I've heard bad things about Rogue CWM and EL29 vs EL26 and regular CWM.
Thanks.
CWM won't be too picky, I have used standard cwm attached below and have not had problems with any flash so far, except CM9 {alot of people do, you will learn that}, anyway, follow OP install instructions and you will be fine, make sure to grab Calk's Format script in the OP. You should be on your new home screen in no time at all. If you get any FC's at first, try going back to CWM and Fix Permissions, Reboot and should be good.

So I shouldn't need to do anything other than get standard CWM (aside from the OP's instructions, of course)? Also, how can I go about getting standard CWM and getting rid of Rogue?
And what is an "FC?" Sorry, I don't know all the terminology yet, but I read and watch a lot of videos daily about all of this stuff to try and learn as much as possible. His instructions just seem very vague for people that are new to rooting and installing custom ROMs.

Correct, download the file I attached, it has EL26, its rooted and the CWM is present - Make sure you do this with Odin 1.85, put it in the PDA position and uncheck the AUTO RE-BOOT option. You will then have to wait for it to Pass, but should only be a few seconds, unplug, pull bat and reboot holding Volume+ and Power.
FC= Force Close
They seem vague at first, but mainly due to alot of jargon your not familiar with yet.
Anyway, I hoped I helped you, if I did hit the thanks button.

Okay, and where can I find Odin 1.85? Or can I just use the exact same Odin program that I rooted with (using Zedomax's root method on SPH-D710 to root to stock EL29)?
And, let me see if I'm understanding this all correctly (please be patient with me ):
1. I run Odin 1.85
2. click PDA (I'm assuming is an option/button in Odin), and uncheck Auto-boot
3. select the EL26 file you included and click start(?)
4. wait for it to pass, then unplug the phone (should still be turned on at this point?)
5. pull bat (I assume you mean select the file for EL26 included in e4gtauto.zip Zedomax provided?)
6. reboot by going into CWM and selecting reboot.
Correct?
And I shouldn't have to do anything to delete Rogue CWM? Just these above steps?

I am not sure where the 1.85 odin file is on XDA, but I have attached, below, still learning my way around here too.
SS= Screen Shot - See attached.
your steps are good, except I meant pull battery, not really necessary, but I usually forget to move my files to my sd card, so I end up pulling it anyway.
Once you get the PASS in odin, you will then hold in power for 8 seconds and hold Volume+ button at the same time {or pull battery and do same}.
That will put you into CWM, then go to install zip from SD > Choose Zip File from External SD, grab your Calkulin file, run it, then go back and run the ROM file and Reboot!
You should be good to go from there.

Alright, so after following the steps that you gave me, I just need to copy all of the files the OP posted onto my SD card and follow his steps?
Sorry I'm so bad at this, but I really do appreciate you being so patient with me. You're pretty much one of the only people that has actually attempted to help me with a question I've had.
One last question: I don't need to do anything to remove Rogue CWM before following your steps, do I? I didn't want to try anything until I was sure about this because I'm incredibly scared of bricking my phone as this is my first time ever doing anything like this.
Thank you so much for your help so far, though. I've thanked all of your posts along the way, and I really do appreciate it.

Correct, once you flash the el26 file from above, Rogue will be gone, you will reboot to recovery, flash Calkulin, flash ROM, reboot, rejoice!
Not a problem, I understand how it can be frustrating, still waiting on an answer to my question I posted to the XDA.
Good luck and remember google is your friend too! Just search XDA and then what your looking for and you will likely get an answer somehow.

Haha, I bet. I'm already loving this ROM, the theming is really minimalistic, everything is stable, and I can just install Apex Launcher if I want the stock ICS experience. I'm here at my parents house for summer break, and I live in Florida for college. I don't really have access to a windows PC there since I have a Macbook Pro (courtesy of Full Sail University), and I didn't really want to deal with all the bs you have to go through on a mac to root the phone and stuff so I just waited for summer break, so getting your help this early in my break was amazing because this means I can try out other ROMs now that I know what to do if I feel so.
I'll be using your tutorial for the rest of my family's phones as well since they all got incredibly interested when I told them I could update the phone for them before Sprint did, haha. Plus, my mom loves the idea of the Wifi tethering for free, so she was pretty much sold the second I said that.
Thanks again! I already love Android 100x more than iOS (I'm coming from an iPhone) because of the ability to customize literally anything about the OS.
You are most definitely welcome, I would be more than happy to help in the future too, but do try Nova Launcher, its quite slick, easy to customize and I haven't seen a bit of lag out of it period.
Im posted up in my basement working, while the wife and kids sleep anyways.

I'm using Apex right at the moment, but I've heard great reviews about Nova. I'll definitely try it out tomorrow when I get some time, and I have to set up the wifi network on this phone. We live a little outside the city here and the 3G/4G speeds get pretty awful in certain spots for them. Back in Orlando for myself, however, they're really fast.
But yeah, I'll definitely check out Nova. Maybe I can still refund Apex. XD

Have you gotten as far as rooting his phone yet? What "gotcha's" are you referring too, sorry for the delayed response. Been busy. Once you get him rooted follow the OP for Blazer Rom and flip back and forth through here if you have questions. Most of the "Gotcha's" that I am thinking of have been wiped due to sfhub's mods/fixes.

Hi,
I just got the phone and flashed a custom recovery. I flashed a new rom (liquidsmooth) and it looked like it was successful. I selected reboot and the screen shut off. Now, It won't turn on. It's possible that the battery died but shouldn't it turn on again once I plug in the usb cable? Is it possible to brick the device from cwm?
thanks
Dear lord I hope that's a typo because this is the t989(d) forums. If it is a typo and you're using a t989 then you probably need to wipe cache/dalvik.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989
As Mr. Mintharis said... I'm hoping as well that you had a typo and you didnt flash a T989 (GALAXY S2 TMobile) rom on a (GALAXY S) device. If so your probably hard bricked. If that was a typo and you did flash a rom and it wont turn on then there may be a few problems that are solvable. I got a few questions.
1. DId you do a factory reset before installing? Did you wipe system?
2. Can you get into CWM?
3. Can you get into Download Mode?
If you cant get into download mode, recovery, or get the phone to boot then you are in serious trouble because the phone is a a fancy paper weight. If you can however, you could try doing a full reset on all the settings and deleting cache/dalvik and then reflashing and trying again. However you may be in luck since you said you just got the phone. I'm assuming you got it from your carrier (I'm guessing its T-Mobile, idk any other carriers for this device) and they will replace a broken device (that does not have extensive physical damage or water damage) within 20 days of purchase date. Since your phone is hard bricked they will do it completely for free with no charge (usually... if they do.. it will be about 5$) and then you're good. They will overnight a phone to you and you just send your old one back when you get it (MAKE SURE TO ASK FOR DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO PROPERLY SEND IT BACK!).
Sorry for the long post but wanted to be through and give you alot of answers in 1 time so we dont drag this post out.
That's my mistake, it was supposed to read t989d.
1) I did do a factory resets
2) & 3) I can't turn on the phone or get into download mode
I bought it from koodo (carrier in Canada) yesterday. I'm going to try to exchange it today; hopefully they'll do it. For future references, is there a specific way I should be flashing? I used to have a t959, the t-mobile vibrant, and never had any issues with cwm because it never touched download mode. Anyways, thanks for the replies.
Edit: I did flash using odin which hung a couple of times. Regardless, i eventually got it back to original condition by flashing the custom recovery (by odin with green pass) and doing a nandroid backup. The bad odin flashes should have been negated when I did nandroid backup, no?
You said you had the problems after you flashed liquidsmooth? Exactly which file did you download and flash from the site?

Read read read.. If you are not 100% sure what you are doing just ask someone.. Sometimes you will get flamed for it but it's better than getting a bricked phone lol and you'll most likely get an answer..
I'm glad you got it replaced

Hello new to the forums. I have been rattled once again by the s3. Finally a problem I haven't really found too many solutions to and plus don't want to increase my chance of completely destroying my phone. Now. I have a Virgin Mobile phone in the US. Was on 4.1.2 but to flash to cricket I was trying to downgrade down to 4.0.4 from JB to ICS. Pretty much during this process not doing my homework I used odin and put the phone in download mode and figured oh Sprints rom should work since SPH-L710 is the same model and completely being wrong. I have been searching around google because I am soft bricked. Here is my assumption of soft brick. When Odin finishes the screen goes red stating the recovery files cannot be found and it wont read my sd card. Still able to go to download mode but not reboot mode. Hence, Soft Brick. Been trying to get out and recently took off a sticker seeing C-Spire. Now I remember seeing this while I was reading my XDA forums so I figured why not. Found some youtube videos googled and fond J7 for C-Spire. So close, but the link didn't exist or something. So... My conclusion finally made an account and finally asking for help the correct way. Please provide links and comments to help me out here would love this s3 back on track. Hope I followed the rules. I did honestly search the forums one had c-spire, but link was dead. My luck man. Thanks in advance.
Wanted to also add. Maybe with this I wanted to for a while, but never had the clear instructions on this nor want to repeat the process of screwing up my phone AGAIN after fixing it. Any good ROMs for the s3 C-Spire SPH-L710? For Example, Would love to use that multi-window with anything and I tried pacman not loving the whole ics not using the home button preferably JB I think which is stock whatever is stock. I loved the XMT launcher and the whole PIE thing. Just let me know guys. Ahead Apologies for the noob questions if they are.

you should beable to flash that. then just let the phone update.
Still trying it out at the moment just downloading it, but if it does fix this and so on whats some good roms for the C-Spire or im presuming this does not ever fall in the catergory of sprint but cspire yes?

I don't have the c-spire, but once you flash the stock rom from the earlier post, you should be able to root and set yourself up with XMT and pie controls on the stock rom. They are stand alones and you can add them yourself, without looking for a custom rom for it.
