Amazon appstore immediately crashes - 8.9" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently installed the Amazon app store on my kindle fire 8.9 running the 11/15 version of CM10.2. The install worked OK, and I was at the first screen to enter my account information, and I hit the home button because I wanted to finish some other activity. When I tried to resume the account setup of Amazon appstore, it force closed. Since then, I have been unable to resume the setup, because it always force closes as soon as I open the app. I have tried:
- reboot
- reboot + wipe cache + dalvik cache
- factory reset
- restore to backup version of CM10.1, verify Amazon app store is still working on CM10.1, factory reset + re-flash CM10.2
Nothing seems to work, I am at the brink of restoring default Amazon kindle fire software to 'reset' the device, but of course I'm not sure that will work either.
Anyone know what might be going wrong with amazon appstore, or ideas how i can address it? I have a few apps purchased through the Amazon appstore that i would like to access.

I am having same problem as well! If somebody has a solution please let me know!

For now my solution was to install the old version of the app and hit "no" when being asked to update it.

This should be the previous version:

After installing you´ll be probably being asked of updating it, hit "no" and it should work.
Good luck

thank you mistaz!

Awesome! Thank you for this it is working now!
The Amazon version of ez PDF reader is somehow working perfectly while the Google play store version of ez pdf reader wouldn't open any PDF without crashing, and where the kindle PDF reader would crash on large PDFs.
My kindle 8.9 has reached new levels of awesomeness!!!

Kindle Books/Docs not showing up.

I've browsed through the threads and seen hints of people having this problem, and I wanted to make a thread around it. The problem being that Documents and/or Books not being seen on Cloud/Device.
I bought my KF for reading purposes, full functional Tablet second. So this is rather frustrating.
Some posts have hinted that this may be rom specific. But I haven't flashed any roms. Only rooted with SU.
I did wipe and re-root with SU, and my books/docs came back for 2 days but now they're gone again.
I've seen others have this problem. Is there a fix?
- D
this only happened to me when i mistakenly turned on "Update Automatically" in Google Play/Market and it auto-updated the kindle app to the one for normal android devices. once i uninstalled this update, (and turned off auto-update), everything went back to normal.
I'm not sure about the stock ROM, but any other ROM has a kindle directory on the sdcard. Might wanna check if your books are missing from that directory.
i.e. sdcard/kindle/

I am having a similar issue.
The problem is that, even tho the Docs are showing up at the Amazon Launcher, once i click on them, nothing happens. Not even downloading them works.
What is going on here ?
[EDIT 1] The only way i can see them, is to use the "kindle" app that is on my app drawer.
With this app i can download the documents and open them, but not when i'm on the "Amazon Launcher"

That worked for to get things started, I then de-registered and registered. That brought everything back. Bottom line, I guess, don't let market update the kindle app.

Hi All,
System info: KFU 0.9.6; Kindle Fire 1st gen, OS 6.3.1; Google Play -> Auto-update apps -> not checked
I successfully rooted my device and my books and docs are showing up in my Kindle (using Launcher) but they do not open. When I try to open them, all I get is the the orange color kindle logo. The device just hangs there. It is registered with my kindle device e-mail recognized.
When I try to open the Kindle app after selecting the Go Launcher EX, the app tells me that the device isn't registered. Would appreciate any advice on how to be able to open books and docs in Kindle and Android environments (if I'm saying that right). Thanks in advance.

[Q] de-personalizing my rooted Kindle Fire for sale

I am preparing my kindle fire to sell it. It was rooted using KFU but still uses the default home screen. I rooted it mainly to use google apps and get access to Google Play
I need to remove my google account and deregister with Amazon. Do I need to do anything else?
Cen5
Are you selling to a friend that wants Gapps or sending back to amazon/ someone who might cause a small explosion if they don't have stock amazon on the device? For the former I would suggest wiping the device using TWRP and flashing a fresh install of MoDaCo which comes with all of the fixings that one would need to enjoy kindle fire at its finest. For the latter, a good, old fashioned, factory reset will do everything you need

It's going to my 12 year old niece. Root is not needed but would be nice for access to gapps and the Play Store.
I did the 'factory reset' and it left the bootloader alone. Will it still be rooted so I can sideload gapps after downloading them from my dropbox or sugarsync account?
Cen5
I'm not actually sure of that but do you have TWRP/FFF on your device or is it just rooted?

Wiping cache, dalvik-cache and factory reset is enough.
Gapps will stay, but none of your information will be retained. It will stay rooted as well.
If you have FFF and TWRP installed, let them be. Otherwise, you may want to install them, even if you're not actively planning to use them - they are a nice extra layer of safety.
However, as it is the stock ROM, it is vulnerable to Amazon OTA updates, which do wipe TWRP, FFF and unroot (they may wipe gapps as well, I don't know about that). A preventive measure if you wanted to keep loyal to the stock looks would be to flash the MoDaCo custom ROM.
josepho1997 said:
If its for your niece, and if she wants Google Play, you could flash Modaco GR9. Its basically the Stock OS with Gapps. Or you could use KFU to flash Gapps, but it would be hard for here to find Google Play as it wont show app on the carasel(sorry about spelling).

[Q] Just installed jandycane V.1.8.0 and then got update notice – correct or?

I need advice about updates received after installing Jandycane Version 1.8.0
I have just installed Version 1.8.0 (jandycane_otter-v1.8.0_0xD34D.zip) and gapps-jb-20120726-signed.zip on my rooted 1st generation Kindle Fire.
No problem, everything went okay. http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif
However shortly afterwards I got GooManager update notices. I clicked on these and got the following downloads:
jandycane_otter- 20121020.0xD34D.zip
and
gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip (downloaded twice for some reason?)
As a rookie I am unsure if I should flash these updates – unsure if the downloads are correct – as I thought Version 1.8.0 was the last version and the corresponding link for gapps the last version, and these I have just installed? http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/confused.gif
Or are there separate updates that are not listed – and these updates are correct and I should flash them? http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/confused.gif
I would be very grateful for advice on this, my thanks

Ah, okay, thanks very much for the reply and answer. But before I do this I had better check about the “wiping”.
Do I have to wipe "everything" again?
- Cache and Dalvik Cache (and also a Factory Reset) ? Or just one of these?
Then I run the 2 updates?
Can you please confirm exactly what I have to do – don’t want to go messing it up now I have got this far!
And I would assume that every time there is an update notice from GooManager I can trust it – even if these are not listed on the jandycane page, and that I also have to do the same wipe and steps each time?
Another question while I am here. I installed a couple of apps, but I keep getting a message when I open the app that says: “no more room on this home page” (or something like that)? Any ideas, experience of this? (but maybe not so important)
and thanks
Great stuff
Aarief Zee said:
Only wiping cache and dalvik cache is required in this case. Some people will insist on doing a factory reset, but if you're flashing a newer version the same ROM then it's an optional step. Try this first, and if things go a bit haywire then only do it again with a factory reset.
Is this an error when opening the app or right after installing it? If it's the latter then go to your Play Store, go to Settings and tick off "auto add widgets".

Thanks, I really appreciate your, and all the other, help I get. I’m like a Jelly bean myself when it comes to doing this stuff – always quivering!
Deleted just the Cache and Delvik cache- that worked – I’m updated – GREAT! Just to be sure I also made a backup first - don't know if this was right, but!
The app thing was only just after installation – but I haven’t tried it yet with this update.
One other thing I notice with the Jelly Bean is that it sometimes (quite often) goes very fast into sleep mode – sometimes I don’t even get time to put in my password and it is already asleep. The screen setting was at 1 minute before the update, I had changed it to 2 minutes, but even so it went into sleep quite fast! Certainly quicker than either 1 or 2 minutes! I notice that the update is the same – but I have not messed about with it yet. I don’t know how others experience this, and what setting time they put in?
However I am really happy with my new KF, here in Germany it was useless to me before (did not know this before I bought it). But thanks with all your help I now have a great Android, Thanks so much!
App issue on newly installed and updated jandycane JB
I am really happy with my KF after the jandycane JB install (and update) – My deepest thanks to everyone for this!
I am having a apps issue though, sometimes I get the message: “unfortunately (name of app) has stopped” ?
Usually the app starts the next time though, but now “Amazon Kindle App” just keeps giving me the same message, and won't open at all, or only opens very briefly before the message comes?
I was getting this “unfortunately (name of app) has stopped” message before I first downloaded and tried Kindle app.
As for the Kindle app, I am not sure if I have caused some kind of conflict issue by downloading other eBook readers (Play books, Aldiko, Free kindle books, Kobo)?
Has anyone else had this experience? Know the solution?
*** AMAZON KINDLE APP was a conflict issue!!!! When downloaded app Google Play Books I allowed it to synchronize with other readers - Kindle app clearly does not like this at all and won't work!!

[Q] Can't get my Books from Amazon. Help Desk No help

My Kindle Fire is completely stock, ie. not rooted. For some reason, I can not get Amazon to send my Books to my Kindle. This Kindle originally belonged to my daughter. She gave it to me and I did a Factory Reset on it, and registered it to my Amazon Account. I have other Android devices, and I can get books I have purchased from Amazon onto those devices, but I can't get them to come to the Kindle Fire. Spent about an hour (maybe more like 1/2 hour) on the phone with Amazon Help Desk, but they weren't able to help at all. They just had me do more Factory Resets, then log on to my Amazon account, go to Manage Devices and Content and request the books I want from there, but that didn't work. They said they would call me back, but never did. Hopefully someone here can help me. Also, is there supposed to be a "Book" folder on the Kindle Fire? If there is, I sure can't find it. I guess, what I'm asking is, where are the books I have purchased "supposed" to be stored on the Fire itself? Thank you for any help anyone can offer.
What system version?
Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
Thank you sd_shadow for your quick reply. The System Version is 6.3.3_user_4112920. I have also noticed that when I am on the "Home Page", and I tap Books or Newsstand, then tap on "Store", nothing happens, it won't take me to the "Store". If I tap Music, Video, or Apps, then I can go to the Store in those catagories. Don't know if that is related to the No Books problem or not.

Hopefully someone will has some suggestions, I have used Amazon store very little.
My guess is that the 6.3.3 update did not install correctly, and factory resets will not fix what is not there.
Reinstalling stock firmware involves several steps, I have written instructions and posted youtube videos for every step.
1. Installing correct drivers,
2. Rooting-http://forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire/development/how-to-kindle-fire-1-update-6-3-3-t2814955
3. Forcing Fastboot Mode,
4. Flashing a custom recovery and custom bootloader- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54124313&postcount=3
5. Installing stock rom in custom recovery, I would use my pre-rooted 6.3.3, it safer, than pure stock, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2793648
It is possible there is an easier solution, but if factory reset didn't work, that is unlikely.
Thank you for your suggestions. I did use your video on Youtube to root and install Pacman ROM on my wife's old kindle. Worked great. Thank you for that. If I don't get this one working correctly, I'll just trash it. Not really a big deal for me, but I like to "tinker".

Thanks for this. One step can be simplified by using ES File Explorer instead of Silk to actually download the 4 apk's - then they are in ES File Explorer in proper form already. Then just install them in the order shown, and Bob's your uncle.
I am using 3.6.6 and i cannot get it working. It allways tells me, "google play service closed" and i am not able to log into google playstore.
same happened to me so I just restarted and worked fine.
you do have to install in the correct order as in the video
I did that several times in exact that order but it is still not working. google play service is closed on reboot of the phone...
i also tried to install step by step and reboot after each apk, same problem.
Fire OS 3.6.6, locked to t-mobile, no root
if i install them in a row and open play store it says Gooogle-Service-Framework closed while trying to register my phone / log into my google account
this message is displayed 2 times, then i can put my account data an try to login, then "Process com.google.process.gapps was closed" 2 times
and then google playstore shows "no connection - try again" and this is where is gets stuck
reboot the phone: "Google Play-Service was closed"

Interesting, this was the same issue I have several weeks before - this was one reason I make my guide 'look and feel like...' Only with root
Must be an issue with the older firmwares...
The versions of Play services and Play store listed here are much newer than the ones (that I loaded successfully,) that are referenced on the original posts on this subject. You might want to try using the older versions and let them update.
Coming from 3.6.6 I could not get it run. After downgrading to 3.5 it didn't work as well. However, moving alls GApps to system apps, it finally worked!
From that experience, I am pretty sure that GApps without root may probably work on 3.6.8 phones, but not on the netlock 3.6.6 phones.

I would really like to do this, but 3.6.8 is not available for download. It is the firmware delivered with unlocked phones in the US only
Worked for two unlocked on 3.6.8. Thanks OP!
Apps from the play store seem to be working fine, but we'll see if I run into any issues. Seems too easy..
Well, you've done it. With this technique, the unlocked (that's the only one I tested this on and can verify it works flawlessly) Amazon fire phone is now the best deal in smartphones. Being able to run Google play services completely overcomes all the complaints everybody had with the fire phone, and at $230 with a 13 MP camera it's a fantastic deal, especially now that you can go download a better HD camera app from the play store. I would recommend doing this while you can, because no way in hell are Amazon / Google executives going to let this slide for too long.
Btw, follow the instructions exactly, then restart the phone for everything to work.
My phone got the 3.6.6 firmware. After I install the Google Apps, it will not connect to the store.
I do all the things in the first post, but it will not connect. Any solution for my problem?
Hi. Same problem here. We need 3.5.0 or 3.6.8 to install the Play Store correctly. Does anyone know a release date of an update?!
Thanks for the guide. I was able to successfully install the play store on an unlocked 3.6.8 fire phone and now I can download apps off it. Unfortunately, I can't find a launcher that will change the black background into something else. Do you know of one that does?

Vire Launcher sorta works
I was able to use this method to install the Play Store on my Fire phone running OS 3.6.8. I installed Google Now launcher, but have noticed that the battery drains much more quickly whenever I have other launchers installed. For one thing, even if you switch to another launcher, the Quick Switch menu (double-press on the home key) brings up the Fire Home Launcher as part of switching between apps and it seems like you have 2 launchers running at once which may explain the drain in part. Has anyone else noticed this?
You can use your own photos as wallpapers in Buzz Launcher, but no widgets. Only one I've found to date.
