Ok where do I start, oh yeah here; I've been wanting to unroot my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 for the longest, but I never knew how. Main reason why? Because I want to get my phone fixed from AT&T, but as we all know, this will "void" the warranty. Anyways, my goal really is to simply just get rid of the modified status thing in the setting so they can't see it has been rooted. So on one glorious day, I decided to listen to little brother (which I never do) and he told me to go into SuperSU and press unroot or something like that, to "unroot" your phone because "he did it" and it "worked". Now it kind of made since when he told me to do that, though something told me it wouldnt be that simple just to press unroot and it does all the magic for you. So now im in a pickle. When I did that, it uninstalled SuperSU in a since, and now when I downloaded it back from the play store, it says every time,"there is no su binary installed and supersu cannot install it unroot". From what I have been reading, this is a huge problem when it comes to using Triangle away, which I need to reset this modified thingy in the settings. Also, I download a root checker app or whatever its called, and it says I don't have root access. AHHHHH!!!!! Can SOMEBODY, ANYBODY help me?! Im a noob to this Android stuff (Been #TeamiOS 4 years straight). So please speak english when explaining what to do. Oh and please be VERY detailed because I never wanted to touch another rooted device in my life after I bricked my kindle fire a few years ago.... Thanks!

When you modify your phone you void your warranty.
Search the skynote thread use 1click to get back to stock then triangle away to reset counter

Hi, i asked this question in development by mistake and it got deleted so here goes. I rooted my E4GT and then installed CWM. Everything was fine until i went to install an app that required root. It said i didn't have root. I installed Root Check and it said i didn't have root. Can someone please tell me how my root has disappeared and how i can get it back. Thanks
Sorry if this is kind of a newb question
Install super user from the market
If you deleted it that could be the problem
If that doesnt work follow the steps to regularly root your phone

nvm i got it. I was curious and went back into root check and it said i had root. thanks for the help anyways
I would tell you to dig a little deeper into the dirt to see if it's still there, but I can see you found it.
I removed root from my device because I needed to take it to the sprint store. I could not get the toolkit to remove root I saw a option under SU to remove root and uninstall. Removing root via SU worked but now I can't re-add it. I've tried using the toolkit and I've tried CF auto root.
Apparently I screwed something up. Phone boots up and works just fine, just no root despite both methods claiming success.
Why not download a pre rooted rom?

Was hoping I could back up my data on a few games first. Is it possible to do that not rooted? And yes, I tried the root kit and it didn't let me access the game files.
Edit: Found the tool that allows me to back up my data. Now I have to get things set up so I can run it. Needed to do this anyway for programming.
Why unroot to take it to sprint? No one has ever cared at my store.

They refused to even touch mines rooted. Another store a little farther from me didn't care but I had already removed it.

The backup didn't work for our device. Any other root methods?

Do you have stock recovery? How did you remove root
Sent from my t0ltespr
SuperSU let me do it by uninstalling it. It was the only way I knew how since the remove root tool didn't work.
So you should be able to install su from the market. Maybe I'm not understanding
Sent from my t0ltespr
You are understanding. That is how I thought it would work but when I reinstalled it told me it couldn't get root. I am unsure how but later on when I was trying to do a adb back up my device rooted itself. I'm thinking I'm going to take it back to stock and start over. Something strange happened with the way I removed root and it might give me problems in the future.
Though right now my device is working like it is suppose to. I just don't understand how it found root again. I swear I rebooted multiple times when I was trouble shooting it.

I play hardball at my store, if it shows modified or is rooted I wont touch it. Only because we get audited like a ***** and I've been charged back on by sprint for the simplest of **** and thats the majority of my bonus if I even manage enough profit to get one. Some stores can get away with it but normally I just take the customer aside and tell them to go home and unroot / triangle away and I'll do the exchange.

Yea, that is what he did for me too. Said he couldn't get caught touching it. Rules are rules. I asked them about last year and they didn't care so I didn't even think to unroot it first since I was running on a stock rom with root.
Next time I will make sure to go to the store completely stock. Safer for me and the employee that wants to help me.

Glad you were able to get everything worked out and root again though :good: sprint can be bad at times
Yeah I played it safe and went back to stock going back to the store to get some things sorted out.. . I went before checking out a phone for my girlfriend and the lady spotted my screen and said "We won't touch your device if it's rooted".. I just gave her the evil look

You will not be able to reroot without root, because you will not be able to set perms needed on the su binary.
To reroot, just do what you did to root it. Use Odin to flash the rooted recovery.img from Chainfire's CF Auto Root thread and boom, you're golden.

what do i do if i rooted my galaxy s4 but have to send it back to t-mobile for an exchange now?? My pbone went on sale big time (up front cost anyway ) and we can really use that money, so i got on the phone, and the only way to take advantage is to send them the phome i ordered just 2-3 weeks ago, and have them send me a newbie... First of all, they sent me the wrong color (i wanted the white , but they sent me black) it did grow on me i must say tho... I have already rooted this phone to get some control over some aspects of the device, and now i am not sure if i can send this one back this way?? Has anyone ever been in this situation with t-mobile and the Galaxy S-series devices that could give me some advice?? This is my opportunity to try the color i originally wanted, get the payment options that are best suited for me, and since i have spent a couple/few weeks with the phone already, i feel that a brand new device could be setup even better tailored to/for myself, now that i know what i am doing (this is my first Android device EVER, so the platform is BRAND NEW to me, every bit of it)... I am having fun with the new platform tho, and everything seems to be working great, but a few re-dos on the initial setup can only make it better, if it is possible with a device that has been rooted already (sending it back to them and still getting credited back for it...
Thanks in advance to any and all that would help with this matter...

you can Odin back to stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2258628
there is also an app called Triangle Away that can reset the flash counter to fully erase any evidence of having rooted.

Did you install a a custom recovery and flash custom roms or did you just root? If you installed a custom recovery you have to use triangle away.

I only rooted (i believe, using Odin3) i am pretty new to the Android way of things, so not sure of what exactly was flashed until i get home, but i was following instructions for rooting only - as i wanted to test things step by step...
Follow this guide and you should be good. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2336392
I used the Kingo root method, went well was even able to install TIBackup and a few other applications.
However, I've looked and there are posts that "show" the Knox status in startup mode but where do I find it? IF I didn't flash a custom recovery to NOT trip knox, how do I verify that Knox is still 0x0?
I am hoping I am not asking a repetitive question because I did do a search on the Q&A forum first and found lots of posts "about" Knox and various other posts about this but, and PLEASE FORGIVE ME IF I DIDN'T FIND IT AND AM ASKING A REDUNDANT QUESTION, how do I confirm I haven't tripped Knox?
Thank you in advance.

i read on another thread that they worked out the security issues with kingo. i used it to root and it was quick and easy. havent experienced any side effects. it doesn't trip KNOX
I hate knox!!!
I just do not understand WHY they felt the need to put this Knox crap in the software. IJS

The Kingo program installed supersu on my device and that's it. I still have 0x0 Knox. So, no idea what happened with yours. I don't even think CWM is included in Kingo.

Kingo does not load a recovery, just a copy of supersu to provide root access. You did something to cause cwm to be installed. Perhaps a different process or you loaded cwm afterwards yourself?
I can confirm Kingo does not trip Knox, unless you did something afterwards or maybe you do not have original T-mo phone, I think the new bootloaders are locked and will trip flag, but I think T-mo should still be on MI7.

I thought it was weird also. But the only thing I did was verify the bootloader version at MI7 and ran the program. I watched the program run and freaked out when I saw the cyanogen robot. I didn't even have that recovery anywhere on the phone where the program could access it. I'm not sure how our why it happened. I'm new to that program and this phone but not new to flashing. I was trying to preserve all warranties and remain stock. Just wanted root. Hopefully someone will figure out how to revert knox one day.

I just read the kingo changelog and as of version 1.1.7 there are scripts added to use a custom recovery to inject root. On their Facebook page it even says to be aware of the risks involved in flashing a custom recovery. I used version 1.1.8 and at no time did it say it was going to install a recovery nor did it give me the option to choose not to. I am trying to get sold off the people that developed the app but cannot find an email address on the website. I'm glad that the program has worked for so many. Sad that it didn't for me. If anyone could tell me if I did something wrong it would be appreciated. Seems like I am the only one this has happened to.

Sorry to hear that, when I get home tonight I'll verify which version I used, but I just double checked and my Knox flag is not tripped yet. To be fair there was at least one huge warning in red letters saying I will loose my warranty and brick my phone by using this program, so I was actually sort of expecting to trip the flag. Also it seems T-mo does not check Knox flag, or at least I have not seen one T-mo customer claiming his warranty was refused yet, due to that.
It would be nice to figure out why it didn't work for you, when it worked for many others, so we can post warning.

I agree. And thank you for the info regarding tmobile. I just can't figure out what I would have done wrong. The warranty could be an issue but I'll deal with that if it ever arises. I was just trying to keep the phone as stock as possible. Thank you for your assistance.

I used 1.1.8. I just powered down and then used volume+,power and home to bit into recovery. The cool thing out of this if there is anything, is that the cwm recovery is the touch version. I had never used that version before.

Worked PERFECTLY!
Just completed the process of rooting my new GN3...FLAWLESS! Now on to some custom ROMs!!! :victory:
Is there a way to undo root of in use kingo. I will probably want to take the kitkat ota when it released, but want to root to use some xposed mods till then.

I think you just hook your phone up, start up Kingo and press unroot. I have not tried it myself but the option should be there. As a matter of fact there is nothing I read so far to want me upgrade and many to not.

Root and start having fun with your phone. It probably will never break as long as you don't drop it or get it wet. You can always unroot and go back to stock. There are lots of threads in XDA explaining how to do that and anything else you might think of.

The instructions are here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785089
Use the correct instructions and files for your specific phone (if you ever need to go back to stock which I doubt).
If you are not interested in being able to do extra things with your phone or you are not willing to play around a bit to get things working right you probably don't want to root your phone. It is a bit nerve racking and I have spent some time worried that I couldn't recover from some stupid things that I have done. But, with the help of the community I was always able to get my phones working fine. I think that the LG G3 is a good phone even when it is stock so it may not be worth it for you to root it. However, it can be a much better phone if you root, use custom ROMs, and some of the other root apps out there. If you are uncomfortable or not willing to spend time tinkering stay stock.
