(NEED HELP) HIGH LTE SPEED Crash! - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hoping some one can help me get a handle on whats going on...
I was on the newest pac rom and everything was fine no complaints until I decuded to use a peer download app u torrent to download a 5 gb file. Everything seemed to go fine until my download speed got up and padt 1.7 mb a second n up... Once my download speeds got that high my phone would freeze and then reboot, it would restart id wait a minute then open the app to resume the download and then each time the same thing would happen.
I thought it had to do with the kernel I had flashed the newest plasma kernel... so I decided to just try a mc2 rom and chose the pink and the brain newest rom. Long story short same thing happened...
File would be downloading fine until my speeds reached 1.6-2mb second and then itd freeze.
I havent flashed anything else on top of the pinky rom nor did I restore anything.
Ive tried some searches both Google and xda but can't find anything. .. Any help anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated, not looking to have my answer handed to me but my knowledge of programing and development is limited to what ive taught myself from this forun over the last year and a half and just now learning the kernel and its diff functions?

Dark Dream locked up my phone, how to uninstal?

Ive been running CyanogenMod V4.0.4 for a while now with No problems
last night I decided to Install a theme with the CM updater and went with Dark Dream
everything seemed fine till about 12 noon today
In those 2 hours I lost 3g and can only get on edge
Rebooting fixed this for a short while. Then it was stuck on edge again
rebooting took forever and it was still stuck on edge.
then the phone rebooted itself about 3 times randomly
Now i cant get the phone to boot past the G1 screen
any ideas? I do have a nandroid backup from last week and even though thats easy I am hoping i dont have to do that
Thanks in advance
I forgot to add that it is the latest stable release of the theme from the CM updater
and i cant boot into recovery mode, it is just stuck on the G1 screen
basically, if you flash a theme, and then want rid of that theme, you flash over the current cm your running. so if you still have it, try flashing it over the top.
if not, nandroid restore.
double. pardon my dust
p.s there is a new cyanogen mod out, id upgrade to that if i were you.
isnt the newest CM still experimental ?
at any rate My phone is stuck on the G1 screen and i cant get into recovery
Ok, went away while the Phone was stuck on the G1 screen
battery died in a hurry, plugged it in and it booted fine
Still on edge but once charged ill see if i can get a better signal
I guess I like the theme enough to give it another try as i dont see anyone else with these issues
and for the record i did try the latest CM experimental build 4.1.999
and it was BLAZING fast. the only reason i went back to 4.04 is because I couldnt get my browser and market working even with a wipe following the CM steps
I may try to wipe the SD card and re do the partion if things are still not stable with the theme and 4.0.4 .. thank god for nandroid haha
Yea- this doesn't surprise me, as that theme messed up my phone bigtime- try to pull the battery, do a "recovery boot" when you put it back in, and see if you get there after that- chris
Hmm, well the phone seems fine for now
but you have me wondering if it will happen again
I couldn't get the phone to go into recovery, I think i got lucky after waiting a while
I guess I will look into re doing the partion and trying 4.1.999 again
I really loved the speed and smoothness and if i can get market and the browser working like everyone else it will be great. i can wait on bluetooth to work as i dont use it much lately
this should be in the Q&A thread
but anyways i would flash cyans latest release if i were you
I don't understand. This theme works fine for me! Never had any trouble with it.
Just like when some people have an issue with a rom that others dont
I imagine it could be any number of reasons.
now i am running 4.1.9.9 and though i had issues with the phone turning off and freezing on the G1 screen it hasnt happened in 4 days and i havent done a thing
You have to remember that sometimes the .zip files simply get errors for some reason. If you read around you will find a number of people who try and install only to get an error, then then restore via nandroid and re-download the file and re-apply and it works. If you are using the browsers google chrome, Safari, or EI, I would say switch to firefox when it comes to downloads of .zip files. I have noticed that I have 100x more errors when not using firefox.
i had dark dream on 404 before and it slowed my phone down so much i didnt even care for the theme anymore. seems all cyanogen roms WITH a theme die. except his his older ones.

How to hack / modify Desire Kernels???

Hi all!
I have spent over half an hour searching but to no avail so thought I'd ask here, how are the kernels hacked or modified?
When it comes to the real tech stuff I'm a bit lost, and to be honest before I stumbled across this site I knew nothing about making custom ROMS, but thanks to all of you out there, you have taught me loads without me asking much, so its here I need to ask!
Thanks in advance for your time & replies,
Arty.
just search the web for "linux kernel" the android kernel is a linux one.
when you know a bit about linux kernel you can add kernel mods to it, as in android.
you just need to download the source of the kernel modify it and compile it than.
hope this helped a bit
ps.: and if you dont have the source you have to be a tech/kernel genius like -snq
Thanks for your reply there crendot!
I was afraid I'd have to know about Linux stuff, which to be quite honest I dont!
I have messed about with a Ubuntu Virtual Machine in the past (when I first read how to root the Desire) but I find it too difficult to understand, I'm much more at home with the old DOS commands personally!
Only reason I ask is that my fone is playing up and has overheating / reboot loop issues with anything greater than Android 2.2 (since it came back from repair when I dropped it & cracked the screen completely) and so far I am stuck with my own slightly customed Rooted 2.2 with standard features (no 4-in-1 menu, no wake & unlock on trackpad and the DSP manager wont work) also, I have not yet tested it, but I know only a few kernels will let me send & recieve MMS, the previous build was a lightly customed LeeDrOiD_V3.0.8.2_GB_A2SD ROM, but alas kept bootlooping after it became warm and I found I couldnt do much with it :-(
I am hoping to get a shiney new Sensation soon, but until then I wanted to know how to modify the kernel to add / remove stuff!
Is there an easy way to take a kernel file & be able to 'read' it so I could copy the stuff I need into the stock kernel at all, or is that my wishfull thinking again?
Thanks again & sorry about the long reply!
Arty.
to understand what a kernel for the desire is, u can download the stock one on the htcdev.com site http://htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads
for example u can download the latest for our desire: "HTC Bravo – GB MR – 2.6.35 kernel source code"
that is the source code..u will see there are thousands of .c files...is not easy at all modify the kernel..it requires strong skills on linux and C language
about the send sms and mms, that is related to the rom and ur apn settings i think..not to the kernel..the kernel handle very low level actions..
maybe u would like to make custom roms..this is a bit much easy if u just cook it for example with the android kitchen (search for it)..the rom contain the kernel and the operating system and some apps
so lets check the facts!
did the phone overheat when it came back from repair (with stock rom)?
or have you flashed the new rom instant?
i would say you save all your stuff and do a nandroid backup.
than you follow this instructions to flash the rooted stock 2.2 rom and the radio
if the problem is still there i would say its a hardware problem, if not you can try other roms as long as no problems occure
dont play around with kernels, you dont have to, the stable kernels are in the roms
if they arent stable for you its not the kernels fault
i guess something messed up while you flashed something...
ps.: if you have absolutly no linux skills and so on, i would say you read into that before playing around with your mobile ^^
andQlimax:
Thanks for your reply also!
I know the APN settings for the mobile data & the MMS as I have written them down, the strange thing is I rooted my fiancee's Desire with the same ROM I was using at the time & she couldnt send or recieve MMS either (I'm O2 and she on Orange, both contract) and I have only found a few custom ROMs that allow the sending & recieving of MMS messages.
Also, I can make custom ROM's, I use Android Kitchen for most of the stuff (such as de-odexing, adding root, bash, busy box etc) but I find mostly when I bake the ROM using the kitchen I have errors on install, so I just prefer to use the kitchen for adding the needed stuff, then I'll just use windows to add / remove apps, boot animations & the audio files I want and just zip it myself & flash which has a higher success rate if I'm honest!
crendot:
so lets check the facts!
Q: did the phone overheat when it came back from repair (with stock rom)?
A: No, I didnt have stock ROM on, I still had either LeeDroid HD or a HD InsertCoin ROM, which when I got the phone back I did a nandroid restore (I make them quite regular & copy them to my PC for extra piece of mind!)
Q: or have you flashed the new rom instant?
A: I also have installed an untouched ROM(untouched by me) a day or so after as the nandroid backup wasnt the version I wanted, I was due to be on holiday to Blackpool for a week, so I flashed the LeeDrOiD_V3.0.8.2_GB_A2SD ROM on both my desire & my fiancee's desire, hers was stable, mine I couldnt have the screen on for long before it got too hot (managed about 5 picture captures before I had to turn screen off for a while or it got too hot) then thing is, my fiancees gets got too, mine is the metal holders for the memory & sim cards, i either have to place something cold on them like a glass or even hold a fan to it for a few minutes until it cools down again!
Q:i would say you save all your stuff and do a nandroid backup.
than you follow this instructions to flash the rooted stock 2.2 rom and the radio
A:My current ROM is the standard one after downgrading HBOOT & using Unrevoked, but I used the phone's update feature to update everything to 2.2, then I rooted it and all works fine, BUT, if I add any modifications, like circle battery it is too much for the phone & gets too hot & power cycles, it gets to the boot anim then automatically reboots again, it can do this for about half hour before it works again, but I mostly just pull the battery & put something cold on the affected area! Yesterday I put my fone in the freezer for 10 mins, but using even the most basic customisation was getting hot again so I reverted back.
Q:if the problem is still there i would say its a hardware problem, if not you can try other roms as long as no problems occure
I have tried a number of other ROM's, but I think I will just stick with what I know works for now!
Q:dont play around with kernels, you dont have to, the stable kernels are in the roms if they arent stable for you its not the kernels fault
A: thanks for that, think I'll leave them alone for now lol!
Q: i guess something messed up while you flashed something...
A: Nothing went wrong with the flashing, as Ive done it so much in the past year or so I know what its sucessfull or not!
Q: ps.: if you have absolutly no linux skills and so on, i would say you read into that before playing around with your mobile ^^
A:Thanks!
I really dont know what the cowboys done with my fone, but they have totally screwed it up, the microphone dont work and I have to almost eat the damn thing n shout, even then sometimes nobody can hear me! The WiFi signal is horrendous since it came back, can only get a full signal if I sit on top of the router, so using the WiFI out of the room is now out of the question! I also noticed they had cut off or pulled off something that I am convinced is the WiFi aerial, it sits just under the flash, a black tab it looks like, they insist they didnt do it, I KNOW otherwise!
When I first saw the phone, the back cover wouldnt fit on & it looked like they hadnt installed everything right, so they had it back as also the in-call speaker didnt work either, there are still outstanding problems, but as I have left it so long (main shop in Glasgow, me in Paisley with no way of getting there myself) I doubt they will do anything about it, i am SOO angry there isnt a swear word I dont shout every time the bloody fone hets hot & power cycles!
Again thanks for all your replies & sorry for the essay lol!
Arty.
hi, ok it really sounds like they have messed up your little desire!
first of all i want to apologize i thought you dont have a clue about anything ^^
so i would suggest you try to flash a new radio maybe the 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23 helps, if you have it on your mobile reflash it just to be sure(if you have a different hboot, you have to do it with fastboot)
if this didnt help, i would say you try to flash the RUU
and when that fails i would start yelling at the customer support
wish you the best
ps.: i just started thinking if it is maybe the battery, change it with a/the other one

Evo keeps boot looping...Need a little help

This boot looping issue is not like the normal ones (I have googled,as well as checked here...I am a noob, but know how to search)
I am running CWM v3.0.0.5
Energy ROM
And Aggressive Freedom (Was running More freedom prior, but still the same issue occured)
It does not matter which rom i am running ( have tried about 5 now)...after a few days my phone will lock up no matter what i am doing and then reboot, except it gets stuck in a boot loop...If I do a battery pull and fire it back up...no problem it boots up like nothing ever happened...and after a few days it will do it again so on and so forth. This has not always happened, it started occurring around 3 months ago. Can anyone help me as to rectify this issue?
Also when i flash a new rom i do a factory wipe/reset,run gruesome format all 3 times, clear cache,as well as dalvik cache..and THEN i will flash the rom over.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. its not a GIANT pain but it just wants to happen at odd times which sucks lol
Kernel
Have you tried installing a different kernel trough Recovery?
Edit: Sorry, didn't read your post carefully enough. Have you tried a stock kernel?
No i have not tried a stock kernel. Figured with aggressive/more freedom it would be a little more lenient on the battery life.
Look in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=708502
Since I don't own an EVO, I'm not sure if this is a good one. Try it at your own risk.
Do a search in the development section for a stock kernel also maybe download set CPU to try one of the governors sounds like phone does not like over clocking they all run a little different.

Thats the problem i was having also,my phone could'nt be overclocked over 113600 MHz or it would start locking up and giving me random reboots, try dropping your level.Ondemand profile works great with my phone, others seem to give me problems.
busted GPS receiver
My wife's Evo did the same thing and we spent a total of 6 hours at the [carrier] store trying to get them to replace it. The store is cement and cinder blocks so there is no GPS signal inside. The phone easily passes their "complete" diagnostic.
Finally, I became irate and pleaded the store manager to get in my car with me. Before we got out of the parking lot, the phone began rebooting.
Turns out, their "complete" diagnostic doesn't test the GPS receiver in any way. He knew this, but I had to point it out to him.
My phone is underclocked with the kernel i am running UNLESS the roms i use some how over clock them, SetCPU does not work for me. And my GPS is always turned off because i try to conserve the battery life.
I will go ahead and see if i run the stock kernel...or one that comes with the rom instead of using Aggressive or More freedom kernel and see how that one fairs out.
htc evo boot loop
i was using my htc evo fine today, it was on 2.3 ota when i rooted it with revolution, it was half way flashed to boost, it already had the NV items and the Nam files, on the front said boost mobile, after i rooted i put a Speedy Shift rom, to make it have the internet pass through like the shift, so today i decided to finish flashing it to boost, after i put the nv and nam files again, i restated the phone, and from there it just keep doin a endless reboot, i could only go in the hboot, i tryed the pc36img, Amon ra, Ruu, and rerooting with revolution but it doesnt read the phone on fastboot, any help?

[Tutorial] Installing Wildchild and getting it working on VM WFS CDMA

I'm not entirely sure where this topic would go, but I have figured out how to get wildchild 2.0 and 3.3 up and running on the VM WFS. It might work for other CDMA Wildfires, but I'm not sure. I figured it out after reading a post by 'threefootsmurf' who said he got it working. I'm just making a tutorial on how to install it and get it running fully without problems, since I had a few problems, and to show that we have a great rom for CDMA phones. Oh and these steps are pretty straightforward, but I left out things like backing up everything since you should be in the habit of it already.
1. Download the wildchild file. Either 3.3 or 2.0, I have found that the odex version for 2.0 and the deodex for 3.3 tend to work better than the other..
2. Download the 'Hensemod' VM patch.
3. Put them on the root of you micro sd.
4. Boot to recovery and factory reset and wipe dalvik
5. Flash the wildchild ROM.
6. Boot the phone and go through everything, you will probably get error messages and the phone may shut off and power back on, but your main goal is to get to the home screen after doing the google setup and everything.
7. Reboot back into recovery and do a factory reset and dalvik wipe again.
8. Flash the hensemod VM Patch. (You may need to reflash the rom again and then the VM patch in one go here, it all depends)
9. Boot the phone and go through the google set up and everything again, and the phone should be in working order.
Those were the exact steps I used. I tested multiple ways to do it, some gave me bootloops, some stayed on the HTC splash screen, and some kept rebooting the phone. I like the wildchild ROM and this tut will open up the wonderful rom for VM and possibly all other CDMA users. I hope this helped you guys.

thanks for the shout out.
yeah not sure why exactly but i usually need to flash the keyboard add-on to get any keyboard function. and the flashing of the rom on official CWM for marvelc seems to have its issues like deodexed don't like to load right or boot loops. after i switched to the unofficial CWM touch recovery for our phones not an issue at all loading after flash. and i usually flash it all at one time. if anyone has the same CWM as me, to do a data/cache reset select it then press vol up 5 times and you are on yes even though you can not see the option, press power and let it finish its wipe. definitely a great fast rom. found some new tricks i wasn't to test so might go back up to 3.3 soon for the extra speed boosts, only thing holding me back is i don't want to spend a whole night restoring my apps backups again lol.
love experimenting with this little thing though even if i am slightly noob to droid
I advise you to post tutorials like this in the General section

I know what you mean I'm a pretty big noob at this stuff too, but it's fun thinking I have some kind of involvement in something. I'm using WC 2.0 right now since I can't get 3.3 to load on the odexed version with wifi and data working. I gotta edit my post. I got the deodexed version running, but it's got bugs, like FB wont work, and a few apps wont work right either, and of course no A2SD support... Lame. And I tried flashing all at the same time. But i'd get bootloops with 2.0. So I had to do it the way I described. Not sure if it's my phone my recovery or what. But yeah....
THANKS
This should be stickied for marvelc.
Thank's wc running great on marvelc.
Sent from my HTC_A510c using xda app-developers app
I just flashed WildChild 3.3 to my VMUSA Wildfire S last night. Here is my experience so far:
Definitely install WC and the VM patch right on top of each other in one shot
Skip the keyboard tutorial in the setup
If you get to the wifi setup and yours isn't listed, you need to wipe/reset/clear dalvik and install both files again or you're gonna have a bad time
I've got video playback problems. Videos I record playback with horizontal matrix green crap, and videos in the YouTube app give me audio only
Opinion: There are a few things I don't like about WildChild which are causing me to abandon it after 24 hours. The video issue is unacceptable, and a bunch of strange app choices make this not much better than the crap apps that come with HTC/VM Sense to begin with. Stock browser is absent in favor of Dolphin, no Google Talk app, no default Calendar, required use of Startup Manager (Free) which I feel is pretty useless to me, and a whole list of other apps (like a dozen) I am too lazy to deal with. I realize what I am looking for is a barebones setup, and I'm going to look for it starting now.
Thanks for this post. I've been running Wildchild 2.0 for a few months now. The video issue mentioned above comes & goes with certain app installations - oddly enough a reinstall of the youtube app usually clears it up on my WFS.

Issues With Kernels

Hi there!
I have a bit of a problem with my T-Mobile S4 and I was wondering if there was anything I could do to remedy the situation. So here is the problem;
Two days ago, I was playing PPSSPP and then I saved the state so I could eat lunch. When I came back to play, I loaded the state and then all of the sudden, my screen jumbled for a split second then went black. I tried to restart my phone, but it would always boot up and then go back to a black screen. I then reinstalled my ROM and was able to use my phone again. Thinking that it was over, I decided to re-flash my kernel. But then, it happened again, only this time, I could kind of turn my screen on but it was all messed up. See photo below. I re-flashed my ROM once more, made a titanium backup of my apps and then proceeded to wipe my whole phone through TWRP, going to wipe -> advanced wipe and then selecting every check box except for external sd and USB otg. Afterward, I re-flashed my ROM once more, booted my phone to make sure it worked then flashed the kernel same thing happened. SoI tried a couple different kernels but they all produced the same results. Just a jumbled screen. What could have went wrong? And is there a chance I can fix it?
ROM used - ParanoidAndroid 3.99 RC2
Kernel used - KT-SGS4
Other Kernels tried - Chronic Kernel, Blue ROM kernel
Anyone ever have this problem?

I have never heard of this problem. It seems you have tried your best to fix it...
My suggestion is to go back stock and see if the problem is still there. If it is then its a hardware problem.
If its not...re-root and flash a rom and go from there.

This...but use Odin to go back to stock. Dont' just try to flash a stock ROM.
REALLY reset it hardcore by using Odin to flash the stock firmware package in its entirety.
That's what I was thinking about doing, but I can't download the stock image. The download never completes. I've thus far tried to download from the hotfile mirror and from stockROMs but they're always slow and never complete. What I'd really like is a torrent, but if anyone knows of any other mirror or what might be going wrong, I'd appreciate a point in the right direction.
Thanks!

You need to use your pc to DL the firmware....it will fail trying to from your phone.

Flash the 10.16 AOSP 4.3 build of KT's kernel. Any build newer than that is for CM based ROMs compiled AFTER 10.20.

Also, I tried the earlier KT kernel as that was the one I had on hand. Same thing happens.
