Ive been running CyanogenMod V4.0.4 for a while now with No problems
last night I decided to Install a theme with the CM updater and went with Dark Dream
everything seemed fine till about 12 noon today
In those 2 hours I lost 3g and can only get on edge
Rebooting fixed this for a short while. Then it was stuck on edge again
rebooting took forever and it was still stuck on edge.
then the phone rebooted itself about 3 times randomly
Now i cant get the phone to boot past the G1 screen
any ideas? I do have a nandroid backup from last week and even though thats easy I am hoping i dont have to do that
Thanks in advance
I forgot to add that it is the latest stable release of the theme from the CM updater
and i cant boot into recovery mode, it is just stuck on the G1 screen
basically, if you flash a theme, and then want rid of that theme, you flash over the current cm your running. so if you still have it, try flashing it over the top.
if not, nandroid restore.
double. pardon my dust
p.s there is a new cyanogen mod out, id upgrade to that if i were you.
isnt the newest CM still experimental ?
at any rate My phone is stuck on the G1 screen and i cant get into recovery
Ok, went away while the Phone was stuck on the G1 screen
battery died in a hurry, plugged it in and it booted fine
Still on edge but once charged ill see if i can get a better signal
I guess I like the theme enough to give it another try as i dont see anyone else with these issues
and for the record i did try the latest CM experimental build 4.1.999
and it was BLAZING fast. the only reason i went back to 4.04 is because I couldnt get my browser and market working even with a wipe following the CM steps
I may try to wipe the SD card and re do the partion if things are still not stable with the theme and 4.0.4 .. thank god for nandroid haha
Yea- this doesn't surprise me, as that theme messed up my phone bigtime- try to pull the battery, do a "recovery boot" when you put it back in, and see if you get there after that- chris
Hmm, well the phone seems fine for now
but you have me wondering if it will happen again
I couldn't get the phone to go into recovery, I think i got lucky after waiting a while
I guess I will look into re doing the partion and trying 4.1.999 again
I really loved the speed and smoothness and if i can get market and the browser working like everyone else it will be great. i can wait on bluetooth to work as i dont use it much lately
this should be in the Q&A thread
but anyways i would flash cyans latest release if i were you
I don't understand. This theme works fine for me! Never had any trouble with it.
Just like when some people have an issue with a rom that others dont
I imagine it could be any number of reasons.
now i am running 4.1.9.9 and though i had issues with the phone turning off and freezing on the G1 screen it hasnt happened in 4 days and i havent done a thing
You have to remember that sometimes the .zip files simply get errors for some reason. If you read around you will find a number of people who try and install only to get an error, then then restore via nandroid and re-download the file and re-apply and it works. If you are using the browsers google chrome, Safari, or EI, I would say switch to firefox when it comes to downloads of .zip files. I have noticed that I have 100x more errors when not using firefox.
i had dark dream on 404 before and it slowed my phone down so much i didnt even care for the theme anymore. seems all cyanogen roms WITH a theme die. except his his older ones.

I've owned my DInc for around 8 months now and a week after I got the phone I had rooted it... The only thing I truly did was install a few custom ROM's on it to try out what I liked, when Froyo was in it's prime I used CM6 nearly every day, and now Gingerbread is around I've been running steady on OMGB6/7 for the past few months...
My problem is that last week my phone randomly rebooted and decided to get stuck on the white "HTC" boot logo... It stayed there for around 10 minutes before I finally decided to pull the battery, restart it, and the same thing occured.
Of course I have CWR installed with Nandroid backups, but when I used the backup for the current ROM I was on, it happened again getting stuck at the white screen. So I fired up CWR again and restored to a previous version of OMGB6 and that ran steady until today (in the middle of calculus of course) it rebooted after sending a text and got stuck at the white screen once more...
Now I CWR restored to my Stock HTC Sense ROM and I'm running that as we speak (and god, is it god-awful).
WTF is wrong with my Incredible? I'm guessing something got corrupted maybe in the /boot partition or something of the likes? Could someone please help me? I've never had this problem before... and never did any "customization" other than wiping my cache/data/dalvik/battery stats and installing different ROMs.
Thank you!

This used to happen with me on OMGB, its one of the reasons I switched to CM7. When I rebooted it used to get stuck on the splash screen. Mine, however, would work after a battery pull. I'm not sure, I'd try a fresh install, if that doesnt help, try out CM7, its a pretty stable.
Oh ok... so you're saying its probably just a ROM issue with OMGB? I'd switch to CM7 but the only thing I want is stock Gingerbread, I really hate the little customizations they put into CM7. Do they still have that CM7 Source project going on where it was pretty much stock gingerbread? Thanks again!

I'm not saying thats 100% the case. I'm just saying that used to happen to me when I ran OMGB. I couldn't find a fix, so I just switched ROMs. I don't think CM7 has a just stock gingerbread look. But how can you not like all the features they packed into it?
AOSP + SD
Perhaps try flashing a Sense ROM and see if the issue persists.
Why?
AOSP ROMs interact quite a bit w/ the SD card. So, if there are issues w/ the SD card, the Sense ROM may not present as many funky issues.
After that test, I'd try another SD card and see if the issue persists.
If a different SD yields no wonky stuff, the answer was faulty SD card.
continual spontaneous reboots
I have the same issue. I was using CM6.1 I think and it's been fine for awhile and then it just started spontaneously rebooting. I can no longer get into Clockwork, all I can do is hold volume down and power to start it and from there, nothing will start the phone. I get the HTC spash and after about 3 seconds, it reboots and gets stuck in that cycle. Nothing has really changed and it rebooted on it's own to start the problem.
So, it's not like I installed something and rebooted. I'm interested in hearing if others are having the issues and what exactly their thoughts are.
Hi,
I trawled threads and guides before starting my upgrade from CM7 to CM9. Thought I had everything in order so set-off. Ended up in a bootloop when I was done. Managed to get the phone sort-of working by installing my previous CM7 zip. I installed just the CM9 file over that and it started working....to a point. It wouldn't take the ICS gapps but did take an older version which at least has my mail and contacts working but I can't get into Play and get regular errors for basic stuff, like clock etc.
I've tried what I can but am now plain stuck and could really do assistance. I'm comfortable with the install procedure (I think!) although realise now that I cocked up my back-up first time round. Have to live with that now. Just want to get to a functioning ICS install.
These are files running right now.
CM9-NIGHTLY-120329-Defy
gapps-20111128
Honestly can't remember which kernel is running now, and confused which should be running. 95% confident that mine is a red lense but never seen another to compare.
CM9_Kernel-signed
CM7_Kernel-signed
These gapps didn't seem to work.
gapps-ics-20120317-signed
gapps-ics-4.0.3-20111217
I'm UK based with a regular Defy. I followed the guide and links (also pulled files from elswhere when the probs kicked in) in here.....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386680
I have posted the problem in there but not sure it's the best place. I'll put a note in there to say I've started a thread. Don't want to upset anyone by double-posting!
Did I mention that I really could do with some guidance?!!!

To install ICS from scratch first make a backup of evrything you would like to hae later and then refer to the below mentioned link and install ICS:
How To Flash ICS(Defy Builds)
1:Head Over To Stable recovery
2:Wipe Data
3:Install ZIp from SD Card
4:Select ICS(Defy) .zip
5:Flash
6:Flash CM7 Kernel
7:Clear Cache and Dalvik Cache
FIrst Boot will take some time...

Hope this helps!!
Thanks,
I'll have a good look through that thread tonight. I thought the CM9 kernels were the right one for my red lense defy......?
Should I just leave installing the Gapps zip until after everything else is done? I assume using one of the ICS gapp files is fine?
I installed they Defy+ nightly by Quarx:
http://quarx2k.ru/cm9-nightly-defy+/CM9-NIGHTLY-120330-Defy+.zip
This should already contain the GB kernel right? I flashed it anyway, just to be sure.
I have the Red Lense Defy, it's detected as a Defy+ now and the camera works.
HOWEVER, i had to flash the 'Batter fix for Red Lense', see first post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432100
This actually caused me a few hours sweat, since i did not flash it at first and then thought my battery was dead. It went empty after an hour or so, and then there was this battery you see when it's charging when then phone is powered 'off', with a big question mark within the battery -- and it would not boot!
I could get into recovery, but once i unplugged it from the power cable it went off shorty after and i did not have the battery fix on the SD card. For some reason i was only able to enter recovery when the usb was only charging, once it was a 'data' connection it would not turn on or turn off quickly. If i turned off my laptop and used the offline charge feature it would power on, however i could not copy over any files I had no microSD -> SD adapter to use my SD card reader.
Finally, having it on power only, I started into the bootloader (power on + Vol+), which also said low power (more fear of a broken battery). After a minute or so, it terminated itself and began to boot CM9 flawlessly. I was able to copy the battery fix from my webserver onto the sdcard. Flashed it. Battery detected again and charging like it should *phew*
This should be stressed A LOT more in the HOWTOs, i was not able to post to the CM9 dev thread yet (<10 posts). Maybe someone can.
Besides all that, it runs really nice now. Overclocked it to 1.3GHz and lots of things run quite smoothly, can't wait for full HW-Acceleration
It worked!!!
Thanks for your help guys. Flashed it as a Defy+ and all seems fine. Pity my main sd card seems to have crapped out during the mess so hoping I'll be able to get my files off it. But, the phone works again!

Congrats!!
You may use any data recovery software to retrieve the files ....
Thanks,
One thing I've noticed is that I've never had a 'H' signal since upgrading. It stays on 3G even in areas where I would have had a solid 'H' before. I double checked my APN & it's fine.
Any ideas?
Hi everybody,{hoped i'm in the right forum},anyhow,I have the s3 from sprint,I rooted, installed TWRP and CM10 stable on it,it was fine for a while, then decided to flash a kernel, witch went fine, ran that for a few months,no problems, but noticed it was eating my RAM up,so I did a complete wipe, formatted the phone and card and all, used odin to put TWRP recovery back on the phone, went fine, downloaded my cm10 rom on it{original rom from laptop}started brand new again,i have kunstooz? kernel on it,I cant spell the name, but its not the kernel im having issues with, but whenever im on the browser,on the net,its fine, now sometimes i would go on facebook,it would all the sudden close,{no katana warning or nothing}and revert back to my homescreen...does it more when i click on links from facebook, and some{most of my apps} like benchmark ones would just close....thats it...no would you like to wait crap, not responding stuff,Always went back to the homescreen....no lags,glitches,....I encountered that problem on my galaxy s vibrant, reset the google framework, and it was fine after that, but not sure on the s3,I just dont want to brick it again,Its fine now, exept the problem stated..I never really came across that before,I really dont know now,I looked in my root explorer,I cant find any thing wrong,I did full wipe a few times,I just dont know why its doing that....Thank you for any input,I just about got it themed andtweaked to my liking now except stated problem...
I have a Motorola Droid Bionic & am seeing the same issue on my phone with CM10. Browsing along with the stock browser & then the browser window is gone & I'm back at my homescreen. No warnings for me either.
First off, hi again XDA.
Second, I've been having this problem for a while now... One day, I was working on something and I was running Team PSYCHO's JB ROM (...or someone close to that name) and all of a sudden my phone said "Shutting Down..." and turned off. I went home, plugged it in, left it charging for about three or four hours. I go to turn my phone back on and find out it's lagging out all the way. I thought it was just a root issue that happened because no matter how many times I attempted to take the battery out and restart it, it didn't want to stop lagging. I wiped the cache, almost everything (I didn't wipe the /system because I wanted to get something off there if I could, and yeah....that didn't turn out so well.) So, I go to unroot my phone and find a PGIMG32 file from XDA that everyone was using, just to be denied by my phone saying that the radio/firmware is higher than the one trying to be installed, aborting, so-on-and-so-forth. Tried doing CM9, lag. Tried going back to the JB ROM, lag-city. Decided to go to CM7, it worked fine (for the most part, still had some lag here and there.)
So, I switched back to MIUI and Venom (I now use the Venom wiper everytime I switch a ROM) to find out that those two were still laggy. Currently, I am sitting on MIUI and I am going to try that INC2 respiratory that someone put up (100% forgot the name, but saw the thread.)
My question is, does anyone know how to get rid of this lag?
Thanks again.
P.S. I don't get an upgrade until March, so if it could just last me out until then.

Try connecting your phone to your PC, mounting as disk drive so the PC reads the card and not your phone. If the lag goes away then it could be something with the SD card maybe. Don't unroot yet before researching. Be sure you are checking md5 before flashing to ensure a good download. If you narrow down to a SD issue, remove any files you need, and wipe and reformat the card.

So I'm running into a wall on this.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix.ff7g_bike Updated a week ago to 1.2.0, and prior to that it would run fine (if a bit laggy at times). But since installing the update (required to play) it won't run. I'll tap on the icon, it'll load and show in the background with other running apps, but just won't run proper? I even updated to Android 4.4.4 cm-11-20141112-SNAPSHOT-M12-d2lte, from 4.4.2), used the Triangle Away app to reset things so the phone wouldn't appear to be custom/flashed, and still doesn't work.
I tested the update on a friend's S4 (un-rooted) and haven't had the same issue.
Is my phone (SGH-T999) just too old/no longer supported? The S3 is still on the device list: http://help.finalfantasy7-gbike.com/model but perhaps it wasn't updated.
So the last update to 1.4.0 at the end of April took care of the problem, which was great.
However..... they've updated to 1.5.0 today, and I'm experiencing the same exact problem I had prior to that update.
I don't know what to do, if there's anything that CAN be done.
Help, please.
Probably because you are using an aftermarket rom. Only thing I can suggest is to use a TouchWiz rom, or update cm. That zip is extremely old. Try the latest nightly. In case you didn't know, cm12 is available for the s3 under d2tmo in case you want to try it
It's possible.... so far unrooted/stock-rom devices are fine. However my friend let me root their S4 and that didn't cause an issue.
As for updating CM, I'll give that a try. I hadn't checked since March (and CM updater didn't give me any indications of a newer version oddly).
*edit* Ok I used TWRP 2.8.6.0 and updated to cm-12.1-20150614-NIGHTLY-d2tmo (along with gapps-5.1-2015-04-20-15-56-24), during the "Android is upgrading" screen (after a very long time on the CM splash) the phone rebooted.... currently back on CM splash screen... will edit in more details once beyond that screen.
*edit2* Past the CM splash, on "Android is starting".... optimizing apps 3 of 108.... and again with reboot.
*edit3* Again at "Android is starting" now optimizing app 198 of 199.... *fingers crossed*
*edit4* Finishing boot.... ok looks like I need to use a newer gapps... ok, updated to gapps-5.1-2015-06-02-15-19...
*edit5* Well everything appears to be working.... though the G-Bike game still won't load once updated to 1.5.0... it does at least switch to the horizontal position and the screen goes dark longer before returning to the homescreen... but that's about it. :crying::crying: Switching to TouchWiz may have no change either, correct?
*edit6* I've always used the default messaging app, but when I opened it it's seemingly stuck on "loading conversations", I read elsewhere that it may take a very long time to load if you have a lot of texts... which I guess given that one contact has 4,000+ texts saved in that thread, perhaps it's just a matter of time before all previous texts load?
A rooted rom shouldn't affect it. I mean aftermarket like cm or aosp. It could work fine on TouchWiz, especially since it's listed as a supported device. Yes, texts may take long time to load if you have many
Texts finally did load. I'm about to install CM on the S4, to see if the game no longer loads then. If that's the case, then I'll switch to TW on my S3 and hope that the game works afterwards.
Unfortunately I'm under a bit of some time constraint, the 1.5.0 update was for an event to gain a new support character, and that ends in exactly 1hr....
Given the time-frame, is there a "quick & easy" method to flash a TW rom without having to do various app data backups/nandroid backup (I will have to factory wipe, yes?), and not lose much/any data? I unfortunately don't have a high capacity SD Card (4GB, my 64GB one in the S3 stopped allowing write access a few days ago, seems to be an issue with that particular card), and 4GB isn't nearly enough to backup everything from the S3 to SD.
*edit* Well well..... 1.5.0 will not run on the CM rom on the S4!
You can back up to your internal memory. As long as you factory reset with custom recovery, you won't lose anything stored on it, except apps and settings
Great! One further question, is there any possibility that by switching ROMs, the game might think I'm on a different phone/new user (and if so, is there a way to fix this?)? Despite all the un/re-installs, I've never lost my progress most likely due to it being saved on their servers... but I'd hate to appear as a new user and lose month's worth of progress.
Yeah there's always that possibility. That's why you should always back up your apps with data so you can restore it in case
Thanks again. I wish I knew exactly what was being changed from version to version, that makes the game not work on an aftermarket rom. If it never worked from the beginning, that'd be one thing... but it's a yes/no/no/yes/no type of deal here. Shame I can't just take what works in the 1.4.0 version and compile it into the 1.5.0 ver... Or figure out what it's checking, and make it think it's a stock rom instead.
