Most stable rom for G2 - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone I've been searching around for roms to put on my girlfriends htc g2 which used to belong to me. I was hoping I could get a few recommendations for the most stable and fast roms, hence the least troublesome for my girlfriend. At the moment it has cwm and is currently running cyanogenmod 7.1 or something from way back its been acting real weird on her. I am doing my own research but hoping to speed up the process with some recommendations from you guys, thanks.

check out ilwt

If you want something as close to stock as you can get, but is insanely lightweight, check out GSlim. Other than that, I second ilwt

MIUI bulletproof best miui rom ever smooth and stable. Well ILWT, but it needs a bit of work to look good.
And if you want a little bit more than just a GB. Try Mimicry, really good ICS rom.

[Q] Top 5 Roms?

Sorry for the noobish question... but i just got my G2 today and i want to flash a good, stable, Good battery life, no bugs Rom
Can you guys help me out and give me your top 5 choices?
#1 Being the best
Thanks ALot :-D
Hi everyone..
I too would be interested to hear which are the most popular ROM's
I have a Nokia N900, and it is time to move as I really need a couple of apps that Android have, but Maemo doesn't
So Im upgrading to my first ever Android phone (a desire z) and would like to hear what ROM's are considered good. Im guessing none of them are bad, but it would be interesting to hear which are the most popular. Im not ready to root and install a ROM yet, but I will spend the next few weeks getting to know the phone and read up understand the process and then off I go!
Haven't done this since the bad old days of WM 6.5, so am a bit rusty, though there were a couple of kernel swaps on the N900..
Looking forward to tinkering and learning a new OS, and hopefully getting to grips with the new kitchen as well, as that really looks interesting...
Thx in advance

1. CM7 for the obviously ground breaking reasons...
MoDaCo/Paul's Sense ROM
Either of the new MIUIs
Thanks ab0m
Off to google and read now..
Its really up to personal preference and what works for you. You're going to get a lot of CM7 responses now that it is at RC1 and beyond, and very stable.
Go read up on the Wiki in the dev forum, and try them out for yourself. See what you like the most. There are stock roms, Sense-based roms, MIUI, and many others.
CM7 should get the nod for being the best just because of what it is. That being said, I use GingerMex, which is a rom based on CM7 with custom animations, theme and some other tweaks and stuff. Beyond that, if you like Sense roms there are a slew of those as well, but I don't have much experience with those because I don't like the restrictive nature of the Sense launcher.
1. CM7
2. Virtuous (a close 2)
3. GingerMex
4. ModaCo Sense
5. MUIU
CM7 is clearly the fastest, stable, and efficient in terms of battery usage. Virtuous is the best Sense ROM and that team works hard to put out a good product. Not so easy on the battery efficiency, but it is now very stable, and any issues you incur are probably because of advanced kernel use. GingerMex is based on CM7, it just has the custom look to it, that I'm not too fond of (to each their own of course), but it is very stable and fast. MoDaCo is another Sense ROM that is basically stock without any of the bloatware. Kind of plain, to me. MUIU looks like an iPhone, if that's what you're into - I just personally didn't care for the look. I think one of the pluses of that ROM is that it's file size is really small, so it doesn't use up too much internal memory.

I would have to agree with this. I have stopped looking for other roms and just stick with CM now.

[Q] What rom for a friend?

I want to fix my friend's phone up since he's still rocking Froyo. I have a Captivate and am not a noob. The problem is, he lives 18 hours away and he's here only for the weekend. He's not very tech savvy at all so I need to know a solid stable Gingerbread rom that won't give him any problems.
There's so much to read and I'm not that familiar with htc phones and I have a limited amount of time to read up. I can flash just fine, just need a good rom suggestion. Thanks guys!

Stock+ by Jermaine151 is the best, most stable, most appropriate for this phone.
If he prefers AOSP to Sense, then CM 7.1 is probably the best and most stable.
There is a lot of interesting Sense 2+ and kernel development, but I wouldn't go there if you need stability.
I saw Stock + and it looked good. He knows nothing about any of this stuff but I just hate seeing people using slow buggy stock crap. I know any custom rom would be better. Just need to make sure I give him something that won't give him any problems.

I'm brand new to Root and tried nil's biz 3.0, CM7, Stock+, etc. and I'm loving McTwist v1.1. Super stable, fast, Sense 2.1 with some 3.0.

Stock+ or cm7. I cant recommended 2.0-2.1 or 3.0-3.5 roms. They are too slow and cause too many problems.
-My life is a shooting range, people never change-
Bugless Beast. It's stock, but it's the best ROM I've ever used on this device.
If he's used to sense, I don't think there's a better option than stock+.

[Q] Going back to Gingerbread.

I'm finding that the ICS roms have just a tad more quirks/bugs than I'd be able to deal with on a daily (being that the phone is primarily my business line too, lulz!)
I'd like to know what your guys thoughts are on the most active/stable GB roms are for the Vision/G2/Desire Z.
I loved Bulletproof MIUI but it's no longer being actively maintained. Are there any well maintained MIUI roms, or are should I go straight to ILWT?
I am staying away from roms like mexDroidMod because being that I'm in the design/UI business- I could honestly say no matter how well that rom performs, it is an eyesore to look at (nothing personal if you like the way it looks). Keeping that in mind, I'd rather not install that rom and play with theming. Just looking for a good out of the box well featured/stable/snappy GB rom.
Everyone has their own prefrense, mine is also gingerbread for now. I've used 15 to 20 diffrent roms and difrrent versions of a few. The one I keep going back to is elitemod, it hasn't been updated for a few months now but is still my favorite rom. Used 3 or so versions of ilwt and I do like the new aroma installer he uses but I still find I like elitemdod better. If you don't want to try many this is what I recommend but only tial will tell you your preference

I would say ILWT or CM7 for performance and stability. But if you want something that looks a little bit better, you should try to find a good Sense 2 ROM (sorry, i've tried a lot of ROM but none with Sense 2 ).
Latest cyanogen nightly or release candidate.

Anything CyanogenMod based.
Try CM7.2 RC1, it is absolutely amazing once you match .so files with the latest radio, doing that makes the battery life on it be quite ridiculously good. It is super fast and, it gives you heaps of tweaks to choose from. I couldn't recommend any other AOSP ROM right now. Anything CM7 will serve you well . The only issue i had with CM7.2 RC1 was that every now and then, there would be this lag that would start up, which would make the phone feel like it was running at 245mhz. There was an easy way to fix that though, switching the overclocking governor to something else and then back to interactive would fix that lag immediately. Other than that, CM7 is very stable where it is now.
Otherwise, try going with Virtuous Sense 2.0. I was using AOSP ROMs for months, but now that i tried Virtuous Sense 2.0 again, i'm very happy with its speed and stability and the features of Sense 2.1. In addition to that, it is absolutely, 100% stable, with no glitches at all.
Oh and since you're looking for a well maintained MIUI ROM, look at Strawmetal.MI. People seem to love his ROMs and they seem to work very well.
I installed elitemode a few days ago and haven't switched back. This rom is awesome and I'm geting great battery life under heavy use... 10+ hrs. Never happend before. Love it..

JB Roms: are they true stable DD's you would install on you parents phone?

Hello,
G2 owner here, I am considering flashing a new rom onto my not so tech savy friends Desire HD. I'm wondering how good the experience of the JB roms is? On the G2 the roms are unusable but it's certainly not a good experience, lots of random slow downs and lag, plus the camera quality sucks. I'm wondering if that is much the same on the DHD.
Would you flash a JB rom onto your Mum's phone, or would you stick with CM7? Consistent random slow downs / lag plus sub par camera quality isn't acceptable!
Also, if someone has a nice clear guide handy for rooting and installing recovery from 2.3 a link would be appreciated
Thanks!

Good luck!

Sorry my bad! I am a G2 owner, but I am looking at flashing a rom onto my friend DHD. -- updated the OP
whilst the jb roms are very stable, i wouldnt recomend them for a complete technaphoab. better safe than sorry.
on the other hand, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968854 this is very good, but synergye(lead dev) is focusing more time on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2003273 this.
the sense interface is very basic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1839004
and if you want the mind numbing simplicity of ios, try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1991558 (i havent tried this one yet though)
as always, read the threads first
Hard to tell, depends what they use... JB ROMs (and ICS) are really stable. No reboots or crashes. Really. There are small minor bugs, but I suppose most of the people wouldn't notice them, since not all people use all functionality. I.e. I wouldn never notice Bluetooth bug since I never use it, etc.
Now, IMHO, the best combination is JT plus KangBang kernel 1.9 stable. It works great, really smooth and fast. I have really a lot of apps and everything works just fine. With KB kernel, at least on my device, I can overclock to more than 1.2Ghz, i.e. 1.5, and it really works well. 4.1.2 is the best Android for me, fastest. I also have Nexus 7 and now that I have 4.2.1 I see how slower it is compared to 4.1.2. But Nexus is so fast that it doesn't matter. On DHD it might, because it is only single core. I tried CFX also and I had lockups and slowdowns. It is also stable, but would just stop responding for me from time to time.
But all in all I would make a backup of your current ROM (stock) and go for JB/KB combo. The only downside for me is battery life, which is worse than stock, but that doesn't happen on all sets (go figure).

Slim and stable rom for the HTC One V?

Hi guys, I'm fairly new here (been lurking for years though) and more of a hardware guy than a software guru.
I have my One V (non-rooted) for a few years now. Its CPU and half a gig of RAM were giving me a lot of trouble before I started using Auto Memory Manager and a custom launcher - Apex.
Now performance is acceptable, but I just want to root already and.get rid of Sense, all immortal bloatware and have better multitasking.
Went through the web pages of all popular roms such as AOPK, CM, MIUI, etc., but my phone is not.listed anywhere as an officially supported.device.
I'm not looking for anything flashy, just the opposite - looking for a simple, naked rom with only google play store and.nothing else, small memory footprint and.stable. Don't need bluetooth, camera, etc., don't want to overclock or anything, just a clean, fast rom without Sense, stable enough not.to crash my.alarm and get me fired..
Oppinions.about Primou? Other suggestions?
Thanks.in advance.

u can try Cyanogen Mod 10
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2653961
To be honest, I've used the device for a long time and Ignorance v5 has been the best performing and most stable ROM for me but it's sense-based. You should try CM10 because it's a great ROM. Another ROM which I really liked is SlimBean http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49763436.
In any case I suggest installing PurePerformanceX ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2360670 ) and TurboBoost ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2145133 ). These mods will make the device noticeably faster and more responsive. You can also odex your ROM if you want to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2390162.
Thanks everyone, but why isn't my device listed as supported in thr CM10 web page?
Greetings!
These "best ROM" type of threads inevitably lead to disaster, mayhem, and general havoc. Therefore, I am going to close this thread down to avoid any harsh times if you will.
Just take a gander at the various ROMs and their features in the development area and see what appeals to you. I just got a OnePlus One and have spent the last 3 days flashing pretty much every ROM the phone has to offer, and I can tell you there are nuances that no one could have told me about, before I found the one I currently like.
Happy hunting!
