Please HAALP XD - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Ok guys, here is my deal =/ i have a customer that brought in a water damaged S3, when she brought it in, the touch response didnt work on the screen, so at first i thought...damn, great condition phone and LCD and glass are mint...but still needs a new LCD....so i said, before i go ahead and order this $100+ part, let me make sure, so i put in a test logic board i have from T-Mobile, same as hers, and hey! it worked! so it wasnt the LCD, so i tested her logic board on one of my test LCD, and hey....it didnt work -_- so heres the deal.
I have the test board that im willing to destroy, to fix hers, she has tmobile, however the board cannot use a tmobile sim since it has a bad imei, first off, could i technically desolder the chip(s) that has that info on it and just swap them on the boards? and if so...can someone please show me what components i have to switch to do this?
please guys help me, i have to have this phone done by monday and its a good chunk of change, and i need every penny for court to get custody of my daughter!!!
any help is appreciated, thank you guys

up

Unfortunately, this is going to be getting much deeper than anyone else has likely been wiling to go. I would avoid trying to remove a chip from one board and putting on the other. chances are, while desoldering the chip will be damaged, and then you are totally out of luck.
I wish you luck with it though. Sorry no one is able to help you out.

[Q] Swapping Logic Boards?

I have a replacement evo on the way from asurion and have a feeling it's going to have 2.2 installed. The replacement is for a cracked screen and scratched bezel. Would it be possible to just swap the logic boards between the two in order to keep my rooted OS, since I'm mostly concerned about the cosmetics. Thanks.
Why not just swap the screens? Assuming its the same hardware.
I guess that's what it boils down too. Do the screens have to match up with the software? Am I obligated to activate the phone that asurion sends me? I would in essence be sending them back the phone they sent me, just with a cracked screen.
your in the same boat as me. my evo got ranned over this sunday and i have a feeling im going to get a 2.2 replacement. Since you already reported the phone to asurion, the esn of your old phone will be put on the lost/stolen file. You will not be able to activate that esn again. Your best bet is to pray that you can get a 2.1 replacement. What im thinking i might do is switch my esns from my 2.2 replacement to my rooted evo and activated my old phone with new esn. I know its a touchy subject so i wont go any further. I really hope i get a 2.1 replacement though.
Hah. Im in the exact same boat, and just came into this forum to post the same question LOL. Evo was ran over and it just has a messed up screen. HMMmmmm. Really sucks we cant talk about ESN cloning since this seems like the perfect LEGITIMATE REASON to do it.
Ok ok, call me crazy but..... if I desolder and resolder the main rom chip from one board to the other, and by some grace of god it works..... Would that chip contain the personal ID of the phone, esn mac id etc etc, or would it only contain my 2.1 install and whatnot? Ya.... im dreaming REALLY HARD.
Why are you kids so impatient?
I dont want to have to hear my gf ***** at me everytime I do something on my rooted phone she cant, And also, it sounds like a good think to tinker on, Anyone know the evos jtag points?

[Q] Broken Galaxy SII screen

Just as bad as it sounds
I went to close my laptop and my laptop fell off my stand and the corner landed on my phone's screen and it cracked the screen significantly. (If my phone worked I would have taken a picture)
I do not have insurance and I'm in my 4th month of having it, what should I do? I figured I could attempt to do a repair myself and ordered a new screen for 179.99. I've looked up tutorials but really only found stuff relating to the I900 and not my t989.
Does anyone know if this process will be difficult? Or is there any hoops I can jump through for Samsung or T-mobile to help me out?
Thanks
Honestly, just look trough google for a repair shop.
Most places will only charge an additional 30-40 bucks on top of the cost of the screen but this way you don't have to worry about breaking anything as they will take responsibility.
After this, get insurance if you still can. Most people see those "We repair any phone for 50$" and don't realize that does not apply to Samsung owners.
Yeah I thought about that but considering that amount of time it would be between me sending out the phone and then waiting to get it back I figure I could do the repair myself without spending the extra $30-$50 and it would be a learning experience
I would like to know however if there is anything that samsung or t-mobile would do to help out or if there were some t989 tutorial

You can send it to Samsung and they will fix it for a price, but your better off having it fixed locally at a shop as recommended above.
T-mobile can't do anything for you at this point.
I wouldn't recommend you do it yourself....This is an extremely risky and difficult procedure, in particular on this phone. Even if you have done this before on another device, this is one of the toughest, so be prepared to bring your A game.
You could end up breaking the phone all together....that would be one expensive learning experience. I would just take it to somewhere local and have them do it.
I heavily researched replacing the chrome bezel on this phone and looked at tear down documentation. Discovered this phone is very hard to replace things on yourself. I have done repairs on G1's G2's but this is a whole different ball game.
I found this tutorial and figured I'll try this out in the meantime

If anyone has any advice on It would be appreciated
Fixed my galaxy s ii
Just reporting in, I received my new screen and successfully performed the transplant. I have some pics but not all of them on the screen removal I will post them ASAP.
FYI it is a fairly simple process not nearly as complicated as I feared but you have to make sure you have a fine touch and don't force any of the connections in.
In the meantime I have these two tutorials to thank

Phone repair?

Okay so, earlier today I was running in sweats with my phone in my pocket (yea i know, im stupid) and it fell out onto the cement. Unforunately for me I didnt have a case (lesson learned, order one now). Results of the drop are in the images But yea no damage to the screen at all, just some scratches to the side and the battery door (which im going to replace) but what do I do about the side? Is there anything I can do to fix it, or anywhere I can go to fix it or like anywhere I can send it to fix it? Any help is highly appreciated!
Send it to lg for repairs

They do scratch fixes? How much is it? Does the warranty cover it?
They gonna replace the bezel. You have to call for price or just stick in a case and forget it.
AWESOME G3
Thank you so much!
I doubt you will get the same phone back so if its still running good you should keep it. You never can know what kind of crappy refurbished phone you will get back. Besides you will never see all of the scratches and scuffs with a case on.
theyd send back a used phone? wouldnt they just replace that one part?
Yeah they probably would but at there own speed. Your phone would most likely become a refurb replacement for somebody else in the future. I might be wrong maybe lg is different from most other manufacturers or maybe the manufacturers are doing it differently than they use to.
oh okay, thanks, you just saved me a **** ton lol
You should still call and ask as I said I could be wrong. But if I am right your phone is probably running better than most refurbs out there.
Ill do that, thanks for the help, much appreciated!

[Q] SDS? Hardware or Software Issue?

I am in need of help! My phone is dead. Here's the rundown
AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II (i317)
Used on the Straight Talk Network
Running the latest Unofficial CM12, Lollipop 5.01 for the last week and loved every bit of it. No problems.
I cracked my screen in July and never got it fixed. The cracks spread and I was planning on getting it fixed, but haven't yet. I dropped it two days ago and then the screen wouldn't come back on. The buttons lit up and it would even ring when called. So I thought my screen was finally gone and started looking for a replacement. I took the battery out because I didn't want it ringing without the ability to answer it. Yesterday I put the fully charged battery in and attempted to turn the phone back on. It will not come back on and I think it's more than just the screen now.
Red LED blinks. Half of the screen seems like it is turning on, but then it all goes dark again. Will not enter Download or Recovery. I've been reading and thinking this is more of a hardware issue than software. I've flashed dozens of Roms with only minor issues here and there. I haven't had any issue with Lollipop and can't see it being related, although I could really be wrong.
My question is, is my phone dead? Do I need a new motherboard, along with the screen I was already gonna replace? If that's the case, I will just replace the phone and start over, unless anyone has free parts they want to donate, LOL! Seriously, just looking for input and suggestions.
Thanks

There's pretty much nothing to say, but I guess I will.
You can't get to download mode, can't get to recovery mode, you can't see the screen......
If you're looking for a second opinion to say you're f*cked, then consider this it.
If you could get to download mode or recovery mode, it has a chance. But you still have hardware issues like the screen to replace. Which is not fun.
Possible yes. But unless you really know what you're doing and careful as hell, you take the chance of hosing something else up. Like ripping a ribbon cable or yanking a soldered wire out....
I tried replacing a Motorola Atrix screen. The result of that was me buying an Atrix 2.
Unless you are emotionally attached to this phone, bury it.
If not,

I did some quick searches and doesn't appear to be any kind souls out there with spare parts. You may want to try CraigList or something like that.
Good luck to you

Hey, Thanks man! That's what I needed to hear. I have been flashing Roms since I had a Sprint PPC 6700 and I have enough experience to now I was f#@$ed, but I really needed to hear it from someone else. Someone with developer experience. A screen assembly and motherboard cost more than another phone on ebay or Swappa. Welp, back to the drawing board. Anyone got a note 2 they wanna sell cheap?

No worries.
Feb 3 I'll be on 2 years with my Note 2. Longest I've kept one. Only have one smallish crack on the lower left corner.
With everything I've done to it I'm amazed it's still working.

Not sure where to start.

What parts do i need to purchase? A llittle lost.

You are seriously considering a repair on that device ??
My initial response was under the assumption that your post was a joke. ..but apparently not ?
A digitizing screen would likely cost more than a replacement device. (Used)..and given the condition of the other components. ..you can almost guarantee that you'll find more trouble inside....
If you don't mind my asking. ..what happened to the phone. .??
I'm not trying to make light of the issue. ..or discourage you from trying if you truly want to attempt a repair. ..but my gosh it looks pretty serious on the surface. ..
We have good people here that are willing to help. ...but as you can see. ..The general consensus is a dead horse. ..
Perhaps you can look into a clean device for sale right here on the XDA site ??
You may be money (and time)... ahead by going another route. .
Either way. ..we are here to help if we can. ..g

Honestly the point of the thread was to see what parts I needed but ended up realizing that yes, indeed it isn't worth fixing. Meant to say - ended up figuring out also the parts and seeing as to how expensive they are...eek.
Also. It was dropped about 3 times from a very high surface. First time the glass shattered. Still worked...second time, stopped responding to touch. Was dropped twice in same day from said surface. I work on really high buildings cleaning windows - doesn't help that I am blindly clumsy. My job will be the death of me.
Hey, if you don't mind - could you help me with my flex problem? I have another thread - it won't accept Sim cards and says service state: radio disabled. Been two weeks and still haven't gotten any further. Have tried everything.
