[Q] HDMI flickering problems - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I generally watch TV in the morning by plugging an hdmi cable from my nexus 10 to my TV. Today, the display on the TV started flickering and I can't figure out why. I did a lot of troubleshooting already, and I think it might be an android problem, which is why I'm posting here.
Things I did:
1) switched cables. No change in behavior
2) switched hdmi input ports on the tv. No change in behavior
3) tried several apps and even just left it sitting on the homescreen. No change in behavior
4) switched streaming device (I also have a nexus 7 2013). No change in behavior. The nexus 7 does it now too!
So #4 got me curious. I connected my nexus 5 and now it plays with no flicker. That tells me it's not the TV.
The only common denominator here is Android 4.3. Was there some update recently that might have broken this?
P.S. I'm going to crosspost this to the nexus 7 forum in case anyone there has some ideas too, since it's affecting that tablet too.

Video Playback Keeps Failing

I AM SO SICK OF THIS!!!
It's been one of the biggest issues since the very beginning!
Every time it happens,I can never load a video ever again until restarting my Fire TV which is a PITA because I have to do a routine of things every time I restart it.
Has this issue ever been fixed in a later firmware version?
If yes,was it fixed before the root blocking update?

Try replacing your hdmi cable. I had a problem playing anything from Prime, and it turned out that I had a bad cable.
Not related to that.
When playing a YouTube video in a browser,it gets stuck on the black part with no circles and the timeline does not move.
In the YouTube apps,it gives me the playback error message.
I replaced my HDMI earlier on (when I had a GS7 GoogleTV STB) with a much more powerful and inexpensive Vizio gold-tipped HDMI wire, and I have extremely beautiful image quality in comparison to the cheap wire that has the ordinary metal tips.

Fire TV very laggy - Is there a way to see why?

Hello all,
I've had my Fire TV for a while now. It has been working fine. It is rooted and has XBMC/Kodi on it, but that is about it. It had been working fine until a few days ago when I attempted to listen to an MP3 file through XBMC. It played, but it kept cutting out every few seconds and was very choppy. I noticed when it cut out, my receiver seemed to lose audio protocol as well. I thought maybe it was an XBMC issue but when I got back to the main Amazon Fire TV operating system, it was extremely laggy just to navigate. I rebooted the machine, same issue. Event he screensaver that shows photos s laggy.
I am wondering if there is something that is running on startup causing a problem. I am not using the remote that came with it, instead using a wireless keyboard. I have been using it this way for 2 months without issue.
My next thought it to do a factory reset, but would rather not if I didnt have to. Is there a way to look at what is going on similar to task manager in Windows (sorry, not too familiar with Android itself) or should I just factory reset?
Seems really silly, but I have solved the issue. I guess something with the HDMI connection had changed. I unplugged it from the HDMI 2 port on the tv and plugged it into HDMI 3 port - rebooted and it worked. Leaving this here incase someone else experiences the same issue. I wanted to get technical with it, but the solution was so simple I didn't even think of it (Amazon support requested I try this.)

WiFi speed

Hello people,
Have anyone experienced issue described in:
"eu.community.samsung.com/t5/Galaxy-S9-S9/Galaxy-S9-Plus-wifi-speed-issue/td-p/438406" ?
I have and it is very annoying.
In practice - it is impossible to watch the movie from mass storage plugged into asus RT-AC68U by USB3.0 due to continuous lags and getting stuck the movie again and again.
In the same time, my old galaxy s5 on the same movie in the same LAN goes smooth and without any problems (the same xperia z1).
I have tried every ideas pointed in the thread i linked above... without any result...
Have anyone got any other suggestions?

Insignia 58" Fire TV Audio Issues!?

I have two Insignia Fire TV devices. I have the 55" and the 58". After the most recent update (Fire OS 6.2.6.9 NS6269/2372) the TV drops all audio, usually happening after a graphical or video glitch. Sometimes it never comes back and I'm forced to reset the TV (via menu or remote hold select and play)! On Netflix the video will be playing and then all of a sudden it will buffer indefinitely and when I go back to the menu or exit and come back all sound is gone. The audio is gone everywhere, the Amazon menu also and in every app. On YouTube the video will glitch and repeat itself and then the audio is gone. On other apps sometimes there is no visual que and the audio is just gone.
So something has happened and I'm not 100% sure if the last update did it but about a day after that update I started to notice it. At first I thought it was a storage memory glitch. On the 55" model we had an issue where sound in many apps would be like 2 seconds behind the video and it turned out to be a storage issue. We had less than 600MB of space left and when I cleared up to 1GB+ the issue went away. So I did the same thing on the 58" and deleted many apps getting to 1.3GB free but to no avail. Amazon and Insignia are very good TVs but having only 4.27GB (probably 5 or 6 GB) is a joke! There would have been a $1 difference to make it like 16GB or higher! And when your screensaver app uses 500MB to 1GB WE SHOULD HAVE MORE SPACE! And using an SD card would be good if that wasn't also buggy as heck! I added an SD card to get my live TV video to go beyond 2 minutes and it worked for a day and then went back to 2 minutes and just to get it to work I had to format the flash memory to internal storage and then back to external. It was a joke but this is annoying.
My audio drops out two to three times a night and sometimes a reset doesn't fix it and I'm forced to pull the plug for 30 seconds. I also found that in Live TV mode the audio goes out every few minutes for a few minutes and then comes back on and does this cycle over and over forever! I think it's a system error also as the live TV buffer video so you can rewind and fast forward for two minutes and I think this is also being affected by this issue. So not even live TV is safe for me to watch now that I can't use any of the apps! WTF!? The tv is unusable! This needs to be dealt with ASAP! This is a software issue or unplugging wouldn't work. And I was going to try and hard reset and start over but Amazon should know about this and if it was the update it's going to happen again. I am here to provide anything Amazon needs to get to the bottom of this. I'm sure many people are experiencing this bug but it was hard for me to find the place to report it!? I don't have this new issue with my 55" model. Please help!
Info on TV:
Insignia 58" 4K Fire TV Edition
Software: Fire OS 6.2.6.9 NS6269/2372
Fire TV Home Version: 6200198.1
Model: Insignia NS-58DF620NA20
Storage Capacity: 1.01 GB of 4.27 GB Available (I had it up to 1.3 but the screensaver app keeps taking huge amounts of cache space!).
Also weird is my 55" model shows NA (North America) and 19 at the end to designate 2019 while my 58" shows 20 (I'm guessing meaning 2020 year model). Also the 58" model is gone from Amazon and BestBuy while the original 55" and below " 19" models are still for sale. Was there a hardware bug?!
Sincerely,
5th
OK, this seems to be a huge bug with these TVs, just search Google for, "insignia fire tv edition tv speakers wont turn on". I found over 30 people with different sizes of the same TV that have the same issue! Mine started after that last update, I know 100%! I was also going to post mine also says tv speakers are "off" and won't let me turn them on. I did a hard reset (deleted everything from device and memory) but the issue was still there. I knew it would still be there as the update is still installed. I was able to fix mine temporarily by plugging in headphones and then unplugging them.
They setup a Geek Squad free home visit to look at the TV this Friday so I'll post back then on what they do. But please anyone else having this issue please call Insignia so they can report this bug. The more people who report it we might get it fixed! The weird thing is I could usually get the speakers to work by pulling the plug and then holding the power button for a few seconds and then turning it back on. But that stopped working so I tried the headphone jack and that did it. Once the headphones were unplugged the sound started to come from the speakers and it said "on" again.
My cousin has this same TV and he doesn't have this issue and I have the smaller 55 inch model also and it doesn't have this issue either. So something in that last update screwed something up for many of us.

I found out this issue is affecting hundreds of people. The Best Buy forums are loaded with people experiencing this audio issue (https://forums.bestbuy.com/t5/Telev...-intermittent-audio-issues/m-p/1334032#M39005). Ok, after the Geek Squad guy came and installed the new mainboard the tv is working good. But it updated to the newest version (Fire OS 6.2.6.9 (NS6269/2372) which has been the catalyst for everyone's woes it seems. Also my cousin has the same 58 inch TV and his got the update a couple weeks ago but it only just started experiencing the audio issues.
So after the install my TV now thinks it's a 55 inch, lol. They must have sent the wrong board. They sent me the 55 inch board instead of the 58 inch one. So my 58 inch NS-58DF620NA20 now shows up as a 55 inch as NS-55DF710NA19! I'm hoping there is no long term effects or other odd side effects from this. I have gotten a few "system components" updates and I was hoping that these would fix these headphone speakers off bug. But everyone who has this issue needs to call Insignia and report it so the engineering team can work on a fix (and be notified) at 1-877-467-4289. I'll post back Inna few days and let you know how it's going. Maybe I'm ok now that my TV thinks it's a 55 inch?!

My fix
I also have an Insigna 58" FireTV. To get it to work, I switch the "Input" to "Composite", hit the "Home" key and now the internal speakers are re-enabled.
I do have a Wii connected to the Composite input, but it is not on when I do the input switch.
The audio does dropout as described above, but not sure if an update broke it.
My fix:
I was having this issue. Turned out my friend had connected his wireless headphones and forgot to disconnect them. Check your “other Bluetooth device” setting for any rogue Bluetooth speakers.

Question Random System Crash When Connecting to an External Display

So I play a lot of games on my phone, whether it's an emulator, xCloud, Minecraft, or something else, I usually prefer to connect my device to my TV to more comfortably play. However recently I've been running into a bug on my OnePlus 9 Pro. (T-Mobile Version unfortunately). Here is where I'm at, every time I plug my phone into a TV, it freezes and crashes. Just like that. It worked for a while and then randomly stopped (I hadn't downloaded anything new or updated anything yet). I did download the newest firmware and still experienced the crash. I have switched the resolution, adjusted the frame rate, turned off Desktop Mode, and even did a factory reset. Still crashing at this point. Has anyone experienced this and figured out a cause or a fix? I am already on my second device from T-Mobile for this issue (exact same experience) so any help is appreciated.
