[Q] Deciding on Tab3 8.0 or not - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I've been thinking about the 8 inch version of this tablet for about a month. Bought one in Australia for my Mum and she loves the pants off it (her first tablet).
There's a special on at the moment in NL which brings it down to 200 euros which is a fairly decent price, but I also have the option of picking up a 2012 Nexus 7 new for 170. I've read some really terrible things about the 2013 nexus 7 and a fair few complaints about build quality on the 2012 version. I'm a student and if I buy something, it needs to genuinely last for a good two years (preferably more) to be worth the cost. Have you guys been happy with the quality of your devices?
I have noticed that there isn't much development for this device. Is this just because root has only recently been found? Or is there not much interest because of the Nexus family? I've always focused on development in buying devices and it's helped me squeeze four years out of my HTC Desire bravo and three years out of a friend's Galaxy S i9000.
So essentially what I'm asking is, does it seem like development might pick up in the future, and if not, is the quality of the device high enough that it would be worth trading off development potential? Sorry to ask such a general question, but I'm tearing my hair out trying to make a decision while the nexus 7 2012 is still in stock.
Thanks in advance!

I'm looking for a 8inch tablet too trying to decide between the LG g pad or the tab 8.0 the LG has much better hd screen and a quad core processor

same here. I got the Tab 3 8.0 and I love it. But now I want the LG 8.3. I already have a plan to give my tab to my daughter since she plays with ti and get the LG. But I'll wait for a sale on it.

ROMs Available
Are there ANY roms other than AOSP? I can't even find a Cyanogenmod or AOKP for this device :/

I see that some customers are complain about screen brightness on the LG is dull. Compare to Samsung

I had the Nexus 7 2012 and currently have the GTab 3 8.0. I had no problems whatsoever with the Nexus. It was a good tablet. I just found the screen dark and cramped. I love the GTab 3 8.0. So it's not "retina". Big deal. The screen is crisp and bright and looks great to me. The tablet runs smooth and fast.
Honestly between those two models it's between screen size and whether having an SD slot is important to you. They are both great tablets.

Would you change your tab 3 8.0 for a LG pad?

You know why? Because we can't just bring up a new ROM for every device that comes out we need to build that if You cant wait do it by yourself otherwise just wait!!!

[discussion]Getting the nexus tablet?

I'm basically in no matter the specs as long as it's below $250.
I just sold my galaxy tab 10.1 for lack of a development community.....

Yeah the cheap price point is good, I'm debating on giving up on my a500 but i do want a smaller device, a ten inch tablet is a little uncomfortable most of the time
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
The gtab has AOKP. That's all you need
Tegra 3 + IPS Display with decent build quality and around $200 is what's making it easy to pull the trigger. I have to pull it though because it's running Jelly Bean, and will be up-to-date in comparison to any other tablet.
I might be selling my gtab 2 with omap4460 chipset and wolfson 1811 sound chip soon.
...
Pretty sure I'm in. Only question is whether or not to sell my xoom.

I *want* to be in because I like my GNex phone so much. But I'm not sure about the whole 7" thing. If I want real portability I'll use my phone. I'd rather have a 10+ inch display on a tablet which makes magazines, newspapers, Google Reader more enjoyable. I'm not sure I get the whole 7" tablet idea (for any manufacturer). Seems like just a big phone that starts to limit the things you can do with it.
What bag can you carry a 7" tablet in that you can't carry 10"? Do people really look at a 10" tablet and think they will have trouble carrying it around compared to a 7"? (serious question).
Not sure about the 7 inch form factor...i do know that the ten inch felt too big to me on the galaxy tab.
I'm also not convinced about the utility of a tablet.between my wife and myself we have 3 laptops,2 chromebooks, 2 newish Android phones (gn+gs2) and a kindle.
I just don't understand what a tablet does better than the rest of that.
BUT,i love geeking out with the roms, etc...so I'm in on the nexus7...

Any ideas if the little fella will come with a sim slot for mobile data?
That'll be the deciding factor for me.
Blue Dark Tapatalk'd (GSM Galaxy Nexus)
I probably will buy it. But I Love the form factor of my galaxy tab 8.9 it is large enough to get more information on the screen, but not to big where you might as well have a laptop. I think that's the best tablet size IMO.
I was really interested but I'm not so sure I can justify it. I already have two "bastard" android Tablets. An hp zeen with no market or apps (7"), and an HP touchpad where most games are blocked or don't work (10", 3:2). I would really like something a bit bigger than 7" or something with an amoled screen, but it will be nice to have something with better support.

Just Sold My A100, Goodbye All

Hi everyone,
Ive just sold my A100, I got £115 for it, not too bad as I paid 210 for it last year. I've been hardly using it recently as my touchpad has been doing double duty for work and Web browsing, and I'm definitely getting A Nexus 7, for the screen alone I suppose, once you use an IPS for a long time the difference is astounding. That and the layout seems a lot better on the UI side of things.
I've loved all the support and the hard work from many of you from rooting to unlocking the bootloader and the nightly cm goodness
Cheers all

[Q] Phone and tablet

Hi guys
Sorry if a bit off topic, but I was looking for sometime for a 7 to 8 inch device that can double as a phone and a tablet, and the best I found till now was the galaxy tab 7.7
The only problem is that the tab 7.7 has an outdated hardware. Has anyone come across a new device that is inline with what I just mentioned or knows of a new device that will be released soon
P.s. I have the seen the tab 2 7.0 and it has an even more outdated hardware than the tab 7.7
Thanks
Nexus7 would be my choice

Why do you want a 7" phone? Your best bet is to wait for the new Galaxy Note 2 rumoured to have a 5.5" screen or get the original Note.
Or get a 7" tablet like the Nexus and use a smart phone to tether to it?
The G-Tab 7.7 with the AMOLED display can be used as a phone. So can the G-Tab 2 7”. The 3G international versions of course. Samsung is absolutely pitiful at updating their tablets though. Every tablet they've sold before the 2's were released are still stuck on HC.
Oh well. I just don't see samsung as something worth buying if you've already come across another brand

LG 4X HD vs. Galaxy Nexus

Hi everyone, I'd like to see what do you think.. I won a LG 4X HD this christmas and at first I got very happy but after.. I saw that it has a locked bootloader and there aren´t custom roms for it. I got an proposal for it, an white Gnex + $150 but I don´t know it it worths, because the processor, camera and screen seems to be be better on the 4x.. but the a nexus is a nexus.. . So, what is your opinion? (Here in Brazil, a Galaxy Nexus costs like $790 and a 4X HD $900)

I agree that the LG 4X HD is a beast in specs compared to the Galaxy Nexus. It has a Tegra 3 processor which is clocked at 1.5GHz which is a quad core (however it might not matter at all since the Galaxy Nexus is awesome with Jelly Bean), a much larger battery and even a microSD card slot if you put a lot of media onto your device.
Is the LG 4X HD you won in new condition? Also is the white Galaxy Nexus in good condition?
Also have you previously owned a Nexus device before?
I would personally go with the Galaxy Nexus (if its in good condition) and cash because I am a flash addict and if you are too.. then you know what to do.
I have gnex and its awesome I am due an upgrade but would rather keep the gnex
There is so many ROMs/kernels for the gnex and very soon Ubuntu phone will be available. I don't know anything about the lg 4x but with a locked boot loader and no custom ROMs etc I personally would take the gnex.
This is only my opinion so I would wait for others to comment who may know more about the 4x.
Hope this little input can help you make up your mind

My 4X HD is new and the Gnex too, i've never owned a Nexus device before but I have custom roms at all my androids, CM10 my Defy, CM10.1 on Transformer Prime, CM10 on XOOM (almost a Nexus) and CM9 on my Galaxy Ace.
I'd stick with the Nexus too. Even versus better hardware, you can't beat the development. Software > Hardware IMO...
I'd probably buy another GNex if anything happened to this one.

100% get the Galaxy Nexus and cash or if you can, sell the 4X HD for a lot more since you do seem to have a lot of "up to date" devices due to the custom roms
Since the device is new, you'll love it and you won't notice the performance difference if you used the 4X HD compared to the Galaxy Nexus.
And of course, you are in the Nexus forums so it'll be biased

The only thing that I am afraid is that the Gnex just have 16GB, the 4X has 16GB + a 64GB sd card but thats why I will still use my iPod Touch

This is why I will be sticking with nexus line from here on out. Waiting for the carrier to decide when and what to update is not something I'm interested in. I bought a mytouch 4g as my first smartphone because I didn't even know much about android yet, I won't be doing that again unless nexus line is discontinued or changes course in a bad direction.

Should I buy the Galaxy Nexus?

Hey guys,
I am looking at getting a new phone and my requirements were:
1GB RAM
4.3+ inch screen
720p display.
The Galaxy Nexus caught my eye as it has all those things. I don't have a huge budget (£150, or €175, $225)But I am slightly concerned. Firstly because it is an old piece of kit. Now, that doesn't bother me if it performs well and gets the latest updates, but that's what I am worried about. Secondly because of Dev Support. I need a phone that will be supported for at least a year.
Please tell me what I should do. I am willing to buy a used device. If you think I should get something else, please let me know as to what device you are thinking.
Thanks!
Don't buy this phone.

Extend your budget go for a Nexus 4 or maybe wait for the next Nexus. Galaxy Nexus is a great phone but let's face it, it's been around for a while... And I doubt if it'll get official updates for the coming year
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
If you want it, then buy an extended battery with it and IMHO one should also buy the charging port flex board which may stop working anytime.
Whether or not it gets official updates, it will receive the custom ROMs. But then again why would you go for a 2 year old product?
Get the n4 or the n5 when it releases
Get the s4 or wait for new nexus at end of year.

Go for nexus 4.....though I'm not saying that Galaxy Nexus is not good, but it has now become somewhat old and won't get support from Google as Nexus 4 will get. Though you always will have support from the custom ROMs....but not stock ROM from Google itself.....so go for Nexus 4 rather than GN.

The n4 is old as well, considering the new nexus will be out in a few months, the n4 has been a blunder from day one an forgotten about due to its terrible launch an unavailability, so people just decided to boycott it an skip it altogether, lg have even said themselves it wasn't on the list of priorities to get that phone out, I don't think google would bother asking lg a second time to make another nexus with that kind of poor effort or attitude.

So here I am.
I have been watching a load of videos comparing it to Samsung flagships, HTC flagships and some weird devices made by a fruit company. The hardware has EVERYTHING I want for my upgrade. Almost double every spec to my current phone. My only concern is updates. Does this device have 4.2.2 Officially? Will there be 4.3 and 5.0 for it unofficially, if not officially? I need it to last for a year.
If you can answer my questions, I will be extremely grateful. My other option is the Xperia S, but it costs too much, bigger camera then I need and no official 4.1
Thanks Again!
Android 4.2.2 is officialy suported on the galaxy nexus and 4.3 will normally be that too but for 5.0 nobody knows.
And yeah I love the phone and it's getting old but it is still a good phone

I bought mine a few months ago for exactly the same as your budget and I am more than happy with it yes it's old but not everyone can afford to get a nexus 4 and to be honest it's a bit to much like the iPhone with it's glass back the gnex gives you plenty of bang for your buck IMO

If you don't need the good cam, HDMI and so on, go for a GNex. As far as dev support's concerned there's no need to be worried, even the Google Nexus S (maybe the WFS too?) will get Android 5 (unofficially).
