Just Sold My A100, Goodbye All - Acer Iconia Tab A100

Hi everyone,
Ive just sold my A100, I got £115 for it, not too bad as I paid 210 for it last year. I've been hardly using it recently as my touchpad has been doing double duty for work and Web browsing, and I'm definitely getting A Nexus 7, for the screen alone I suppose, once you use an IPS for a long time the difference is astounding. That and the layout seems a lot better on the UI side of things.
I've loved all the support and the hard work from many of you from rooting to unlocking the bootloader and the nightly cm goodness
Cheers all

Come back and let us know how that nexus 7 is vs the a100, quite a few of us are on the fence about it.

GS2 T989 is much better the Galaxy Nexus.

We are always going to be behind with software. This is the Google's and Manufacturer's fault. I have the Galaxy Nexus in my hand today and I had the GS2 for 2 months already there is nothing that Galaxy Nexus has that GS2 doesn't and we have to wait for this **** manufacturer's to release updates. The GS2 is faster and more conferable in hand.
If anyone has any questions ask me I'll try to answer.

I won't go as far as to say that the Galaxy S II is the better phone. I had a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon and it was great other then a couple defects I ran into. The software on the Galaxy Nexus will most likely be better then what makes its way to the GSII and the notification led on the Nexus is the best one I have seen on any phone. The Galaxy S II has a way better camera and has been a lot more reliable.
Both are great phones. Its really hard to say which one is better.
I say your essentially buying the same phone twice. Besides ics and a few other differences they are basically the same phone.

I'm sure theirs been a long thread discussing this already. Everyone feels strongly opinionated and there is no true winner. They both have pros and cons. If I HAD to choose I would go with the Nexus hands down for the fact that its a nexus phone and development will be great. ICS seems amazing and the display as well.
There is enough hate in the world. Why can't we all get along here ...?
Oh man, you guys completely ignore the screen issue our GS2 has. If it was a good screen, had a exynos then it would be better than the nexus. International GS2 fits in that category.
Okay.. I own and love both phones and these types of threads are entirely subjective and flame prone. Holding a phone in your hand is NOT a valid explanation for why a phone is better than another. You need to have plenty of hands-on time to really know the pro's and con's of both. (And neither is immune to either.)

most of us dont even notice the issue until someone mention it(i didnt know this until i heard about it..and i always use my phone in the dark..)
Man we buy the phones for $500 to $600 and we have to cry to get some software updates thats the thing. Google shouldn't relese the update till all the major manufacturers have their updates ready as well. If it goes like this we are going to get ICS end of the year, after original Galaxy s 2 i9100 gets it then we get it and that's the question if the carriers put thirty **** in there. So we looking at till September when Google will unveil the 5.0

if you read on the i9250 forum, they too have the screen problem, and their screen is 720
other than ICS which we'll get, the only other difference is the Barometer sensor
otherwise the i9250 is actually under grade, they even got a major issue with the storage and MTP, and fake sdcard to make old Apps compatible, but even so, there are still Apps that are still not compatible

Ill take external SD support, 8mp cam over the galaxy nexus anyday. This whole the nexus is better crap is dumb all it has is ics and even ics isn't that amazing i used it on the sensation for two weeks and its really good. It adds plenty of things that are pleasant and well done now on android. The bad is apps still need to be updated but the sensation outclassed the galaxy nexus with ics as it is and once we get it this phone will be above the nexus. People buy a phone and always look for something to complain about the screen issue is annoying if you notice it but I'm hoping supercurio makes a fix for us. Either way my use isn't affected except for maybe 5% of the time and even then its just not pleasant to look at. There are a handful of phones that once they have ics will make the nexus look out dated galaxy s 2, amaze 4g, rezound, razr, etc.... development is just slowed from these phones being new and because developing gingerbread might be worthless if ics is here in a couple months.

Ha-ha that's how I felt at first too but being on my second day now it's actually pretty easy. The hardest part for me was not hitting the damn home button instead of the space bar.

I'm having that problem now currently with the SG2 haha. Second day with the phone (last phone was MT4G) and every other time when hitting the space bar I hit one of the "hard" buttons on the bottom. Slowly getting used to it though.
I will say - if the Nexus had an equal or better camera than the SG2, I would probably return this and get that instead, especially as there's supposed to be a white one coming out. But I use my phone's camera A LOT, and it's an important feature for me, so the Nexus is out right there. I don't know why they'd release a 'flagship' phone with semi out-of-date specs. With iphone 4, SG2, and many others coming out with 8 megapixels, why would Google only do 5?? Anyway...
notification led on galaxy nexus is really badass too, +1 for that
Im going to donate a tmobile galaxy s2 to the first dev that makes a fully working ics rom for t989.

Lol, well the GS2 is a vast improvement over the myTouch 4G. (I loved that phone when it first came out too, lol.)
I think the Nexus camera has a lot of software issues. It is okay but i think it will get better as Google picks up the slack. Hell they paused the latest update for reasons unknown but people have reported much better stats all around with the leaked 4.0.3 that has been lurking around. I truly believe people make a bigger deal than what is necessary about both of these phones. Why try to argue one over the other? They are both great! As i said previously, both have pro's and con's but i think either or should be enough to satisfy the vast majority of users.

The way we think about our nexus

When a new phone comes we all wonder, man the new htc is what I want and it has better camera, and the gps is amazing and SIRI wannabe, quad core exynos and 1080p super amoled +(this would be too much lol) ... I just want you guys to remember the we live in the best years of our lives and we don't appreciate it sometimes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8r1CZTLk-Gk&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Now I can say for myself that I still think galaxy nexus is the best phone in the market even tho s voice and quad core is coming out, I don't really needed and I think I won't use it(had Siri for 6 months and didn't use it much ) and I hope this help for people that always think about the next big thing.
You're right... we do live in the best years of our lives.... but its also made us too reliant on technology and a bunch of spoiled brats...
I was around for all those things he spoke of in the Video and can relate... but I guess everything is relative to every generation... Each one more spoiled then the previous.
Guess in 30 years when our cars fly themselves this generation would be like "Damn, we used to drive, uphill, bothways, on a paved road!"
Lol
Lol. This was great.

Louis is amazing, thanks for the post lol
but yeah, people expect so much and are quick to dismiss something great based off one thing they aren't attracted to... kind of sad but that's the way the world works now, its only the few that can appreciate something's significance and the rest just complain that it isn't good enough.
We gotta hand it to the 2nd group of people though, the ones who are never happy are the ones innovating and providing the rest of us with cooler things although I believe everyone should appreciate everything regardless

I stopped into the att store today and played around with the one x they had in there. Man it was beautiful in white and in grey. The fit and finish is amazing and the screen is gorgeous... looks a bit better than my GSM nexus and the look of the device was nicer as well. Too bad the rest of the experience let me down. I don't know if it was sense or what but it wasn't nearly as snappy. I know its got more muscle but it hangs in spots for some reason and browsing on it sucked! What's the point in all that beauty and horsepower when the function of the phone doesn't respond in kind? I'd love for the next nexus to be a bit more pretty in design but this thing just works. The major failure in android so far is that manufacturer customization so far has mostly detracted from the function of the phone compared to stock. The galaxy nexus, in GSM form at least is still the high bar other android phones need to measure against. I love this phone. For that, I don't think I'll have a real choice in the future between a nexus and any others. Unless a non nexus gets true stock android there will probably be something letting it down. I think the one x or others could be as good or better overall than this phone if they had just included some phone specific apps to differenciate and left everything else stock and unlocked.
Before anyone says to just put on cm or other aosp on those other devices, unless they are unlocked and have drivers available, they tend to have things missing or unstable when going stock android.

It hit me the other day that I've actually had this phone for almost half a year. It still feels brand new to me, and I marvel at how fresh it still feels with minimal maintenance.
My GS1, Desire HD, and Focus never quite ticked all the boxes, and I had to jump through hoops to get them to operate how I wanted then to. My one and only wish is for the next Nexus to be Note-sized (I pretty much only read books on my phone now). That's not happening, so I'm as pleased with the Nexus as I'll ever be with a phone.

Should I buy the Galaxy Nexus?

Hey guys,
I am looking at getting a new phone and my requirements were:
1GB RAM
4.3+ inch screen
720p display.
The Galaxy Nexus caught my eye as it has all those things. I don't have a huge budget (£150, or €175, $225)But I am slightly concerned. Firstly because it is an old piece of kit. Now, that doesn't bother me if it performs well and gets the latest updates, but that's what I am worried about. Secondly because of Dev Support. I need a phone that will be supported for at least a year.
Please tell me what I should do. I am willing to buy a used device. If you think I should get something else, please let me know as to what device you are thinking.
Thanks!
Don't buy this phone.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Xparent Skyblue Tapatalk 2
Extend your budget go for a Nexus 4 or maybe wait for the next Nexus. Galaxy Nexus is a great phone but let's face it, it's been around for a while... And I doubt if it'll get official updates for the coming year
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
If you want it, then buy an extended battery with it and IMHO one should also buy the charging port flex board which may stop working anytime.
Whether or not it gets official updates, it will receive the custom ROMs. But then again why would you go for a 2 year old product?
Get the n4 or the n5 when it releases
Get the s4 or wait for new nexus at end of year.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Go for nexus 4.....though I'm not saying that Galaxy Nexus is not good, but it has now become somewhat old and won't get support from Google as Nexus 4 will get. Though you always will have support from the custom ROMs....but not stock ROM from Google itself.....so go for Nexus 4 rather than GN.

Okay, popular opinion suggests that the N4 is my choice. Is there anywhere I can pick it up within my budget?
Thanks!

The n4 is old as well, considering the new nexus will be out in a few months, the n4 has been a blunder from day one an forgotten about due to its terrible launch an unavailability, so people just decided to boycott it an skip it altogether, lg have even said themselves it wasn't on the list of priorities to get that phone out, I don't think google would bother asking lg a second time to make another nexus with that kind of poor effort or attitude.

So here I am.
I have been watching a load of videos comparing it to Samsung flagships, HTC flagships and some weird devices made by a fruit company. The hardware has EVERYTHING I want for my upgrade. Almost double every spec to my current phone. My only concern is updates. Does this device have 4.2.2 Officially? Will there be 4.3 and 5.0 for it unofficially, if not officially? I need it to last for a year.
If you can answer my questions, I will be extremely grateful. My other option is the Xperia S, but it costs too much, bigger camera then I need and no official 4.1
Thanks Again!
Android 4.2.2 is officialy suported on the galaxy nexus and 4.3 will normally be that too but for 5.0 nobody knows.
And yeah I love the phone and it's getting old but it is still a good phone

If you don't need the good cam, HDMI and so on, go for a GNex. As far as dev support's concerned there's no need to be worried, even the Google Nexus S (maybe the WFS too?) will get Android 5 (unofficially).

I've had mine for about 6 months and have tried just about every ROM and kernel out there for it and it's been great. I think you would be fine with it for a year or so with the support it has here.

I finally dropped my beloved GN

I've had for almost two years, finally dropped it on tile floor. Yep, the screen cracked big time. It's a VZW phone, have had zero problems with it. Unlocked, rooted, my favorite ROM. The screen still worked, so had some time to explore options. Called around, going price to replace the screen was around $140. Didn't want to get new phone via new contract as I want to keep unlimited data. Started looking at other phones on ebay. Wife has a droid razr which I like, but don't like the non-replaceable battery, plus resale cost on droid razr is more like $200. As it turns out, GN on ebay is going for just a bit over $100. Took a chance, got a GN in near perfect condition for just over $100. Score, got another GN and my old GN is sitting the drawer as a backup. I know the GN is old and a bit tired, but I really like the phone.
this happened to me, 5 months ago

My GNex is bought days ago with screen cracked (at ~$60 it's still a nice deal), but here in China we have magical repair stations that replaces only the screen glass (they can do this for most Samsung phones) and costs merely ~$25. I will opt for this solution as soon as I have enough money. Too bad I've never heard of this available out of China.

BECAUSE I'M CRAAAAAAAAAZZZZZZZZZZY!!! (Think Crazy Dave)
To be honest, I bought relatively legacy devices at real cheap prices not for calling/internet, but for flashing pleasures and special perks, usually determining the devices' uses: e.g. I get outstanding performance (at the purchase time) and QWERTY with an Epic 4G, so it had served as my main gaming device back then; and I get 16:9 screen with onscreen nav keys (a big must!) with a GNex, so I can play PPSSPP without black borders.

Yeah. I really want to buy the Galaxy S... when I find one... my friend has one that I could buy... but I'll wait until he is ready to buy a new one.

Why the 1st-gen Galaxy S? It's fading out of mainstream these days... I am abandoning my Epic 4G myself (it has same internals as Galaxy S)

Well really. I want to collect the whole Galaxy S line of phones. But the S is my favourite. Just really good to see that it is still supported and what not! I may ask this friend... don't want to pay to much for it... <$50 or less.. I'll see what he says... what phones have you got?

My signature lists all phones I currently own. Unlisted are either sold (G1, Milestone, etc.), exchanged (N9, Xiaomi MI-1S) or too obsolete (N900).
Galaxy S is also one of my favourites, I just don't think it's worthy of paying ~$80 for it today (the price here in China), especially when I can have a far superior and valuable GNex at an even lower price!

It still can fly, you just haven't taken the time to prepare it for takeoff And I want a Captivate too.
Back on topic, no more legacy device trading...

Actually, I did. I decided for a couple of reasons not to use. One, there is the $100 deductible. Two, when I found them on ebay for roughly the same price, thought I take a chance and be able to keep the broken phone (which still works). Now I have a backup that I can also try out different ROM's before committing to my DD. I have since cancelled the insurance..
You could purchase a BAD ESN phone off eBay for less than $100 and switch out the parts. Its looks pretty hard to replace the actual glass, but the device looks relatively easy to take apart. Like a micro computer.

I looked at that option as well, watched a couple of youtube videos of it being done. Was not for me, I'm not that good at working with small parts. With my luck, I'd end up breaking the screen trying to replace it.

[Q] Deciding on Tab3 8.0 or not

Hey guys,
I've been thinking about the 8 inch version of this tablet for about a month. Bought one in Australia for my Mum and she loves the pants off it (her first tablet).
There's a special on at the moment in NL which brings it down to 200 euros which is a fairly decent price, but I also have the option of picking up a 2012 Nexus 7 new for 170. I've read some really terrible things about the 2013 nexus 7 and a fair few complaints about build quality on the 2012 version. I'm a student and if I buy something, it needs to genuinely last for a good two years (preferably more) to be worth the cost. Have you guys been happy with the quality of your devices?
I have noticed that there isn't much development for this device. Is this just because root has only recently been found? Or is there not much interest because of the Nexus family? I've always focused on development in buying devices and it's helped me squeeze four years out of my HTC Desire bravo and three years out of a friend's Galaxy S i9000.
So essentially what I'm asking is, does it seem like development might pick up in the future, and if not, is the quality of the device high enough that it would be worth trading off development potential? Sorry to ask such a general question, but I'm tearing my hair out trying to make a decision while the nexus 7 2012 is still in stock.
Thanks in advance!
I'm looking for a 8inch tablet too trying to decide between the LG g pad or the tab 8.0 the LG has much better hd screen and a quad core processor

same here. I got the Tab 3 8.0 and I love it. But now I want the LG 8.3. I already have a plan to give my tab to my daughter since she plays with ti and get the LG. But I'll wait for a sale on it.
ROMs Available
Are there ANY roms other than AOSP? I can't even find a Cyanogenmod or AOKP for this device :/
I see that some customers are complain about screen brightness on the LG is dull. Compare to Samsung

I had the Nexus 7 2012 and currently have the GTab 3 8.0. I had no problems whatsoever with the Nexus. It was a good tablet. I just found the screen dark and cramped. I love the GTab 3 8.0. So it's not "retina". Big deal. The screen is crisp and bright and looks great to me. The tablet runs smooth and fast.
Honestly between those two models it's between screen size and whether having an SD slot is important to you. They are both great tablets.
Would you change your tab 3 8.0 for a LG pad?

You know why? Because we can't just bring up a new ROM for every device that comes out we need to build that if You cant wait do it by yourself otherwise just wait!!!
