Hi
Is it possible to flash the new I9195XXUBMJ7 Firmware without the Knox bootloader? How do i remove the bootloader from stock firmware or how to flash stock I9195XXUBMJ7 rom without the bootloader. Has anyone tried it?
Kind Regards
Tom
is possible, you can try with [TOOL] TAR.MD5 PACKAGER from this link

I have CM10.2 installed and I want to keep it. But I want to update the modem while keeping the bootloader.
Is this possible with this phone?
I am not skilled enough to extract the related files and create a new CWM flashable ZIP.
Could somebody please do this for me (and possibly others)?

You need to extract from latest Firmware.TAR.MD5 only the NON-HLOS.bin file, repack it and flash as CP/PHONE via Odin.
Needed commands for repack (in Linux or Cygwin):
Code:
tar -H ustar -c NON-HLOS.bin > modem.tar
md5sum -t modem.tar >> modem.tar
mv modem.tar modem.tar.md5
Finally you take the modem.tar.md5 and flash it.

Thank you.
I successfully flashed the tar file with ODIN. The phone rebooted and runs without noticeable problems.
But my baseband version status line still shows UAMG8. Shouldn't it read UBMJ7?

Where/how did you check the baseband version?
Try the following code in dialer: *#1234#
Still MG8 ?
hm...something must be wrong with my phone...when i enter your ussd code in the dialer app i get an error "connection problem or invalid mmi-code"

Power off the device. Remove battery. Wait a while. Insert battery. Power on. Check again. Optionally reflash again the modem in Odin.

Do you come from Not Official Samsung Firmware Status Coustom ??!!! You must flash first AMG8 or AMH3 Official Firmware.....otherwise the modem will still.
1. Factory Reset
2. AMG8 Firmware Flash by Odin
3. Boot + OTA Update to XXUBMJ7
or
Flash with Odin.
Thats my way with the same Problem.
Sorry for my bad english.
I`m on CM 10.2, so no OTA possible. Moreover i don`t want KNOX on my phone.

Before i knew that with XXUBMJ7 also KNOX comes along i've already flashed the whole firmware package. Everthing worked fine, but baseband didn't changed. I also don't have KNOX on my phone, so i think your observation is right. Nevertheless i want to reflash modem to a newer version (it don't hast to be XXUBMJ7) because i have strange reception and wifi connections errors since i change to cm 10.2 (from stock),
I've tried it again with I9195XXUAMH1_I9195OXXAMH3_BTU modem...but baseband is still the same

Are you sure?
I think XXUBMJ7 firmware has the Knox part in BOOTLOADER, not in MODEM.
So XXUBMJ7 + MODEM - bootloader = no Knox
Of course I can not confirm, because I am now on XXUBMJ7 and return to older FW is not possible.

Is the "Mobile hotspot" and "data" on the Notification panel (when you swipe your finger from the top of the phone) ???
Or is it the same as the Tmobile version, Mobile hotspot is on a separate app in the app drawer, and mobile data can only be accessed under settings menu?
Thanks

everything seemed to work, but after flashing the Modem.bin And NON-HLOS.bin I no longer have any sound. Anyone else having a similar issue? I think it was really the non-hlos.bin that screwed things up. Any way to undo what it did? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

The nonhlos.bin version must match the bootloader version. For example, if you have the NB7 bootloader, you need to have the NB7 nonhlos.bin. Flash the proper nonhlos.bin.

Thanks for the reply. How can I find out what bootloader I have? I pretty much had rooted my MetroPCS S4 shortly after I bought it back in July of 2013. It was still using Jelly bean 4.2.2. with older firmware M919NUVUAMF2. I hope that info helps. Would I need to find a different nonhlos.bin file or update/upgrade my bootloader? I'm really SOL right now cuz I can't make phone calls. At least I can still recieve texts. Thanks again for any help?

July of 2013 means your warranty is up so tripping knox would be no issue. I'd completely update with the firmware then you can not worry about stupid mix match problems

AP. Uncheck auto reboot, flash it, when done pull battery, back to download mode and flash it again and reboot. Just to be 100. Sometimes bootloader and/or modems have a issue writing to the device.

Edit: Looks like you're flashing the firmware...good choice.
If you've never flashed a different firmware then you would need the nonhlos.bin from the MF2 firmware. You can find that firmware at this link, under firmware...
http://androidforums.com/metropcs-g...cial-metropcs-s4-root-information-thread.html
Alternately you could just flash the new NI3 firmware like shiny suggested. It would be easier altogether. Your manufacturer warranty has expired so updating the bootloader is no longer an issue.

^^^Modem & Non-Hlos in a zip file. Extract and flash what you need.^^^
Non-Hlos <<<(need to be on [OH3] MATCHING Bootloader!)
FOR MDL BOOTLOADER FLASH ONLY THE MODEM.BIN (NOT NON-HLOS)
Everythings working, sound, calling, LTE, Wifi etc.
Steps I took in case anyone needs it: have latest samsung drivers, open odin (I used 3.04). Untick auto reboot, POWER OFF PHONE dont use reboot menu because files wont always flash correctly. Hold power + vol down to boot to download, make sure it shows up in odin. Click PDA navigate to modem.bin (if its not showing up enter ** into file name field and hit enter....poof its there) now flash it and wait until you see success. Unplug phone, Close/Reopen ODIN, Hold power to shut down, boot to download and repeat modem flash to make sure it sticks.
Make sure you have a backup of rom and current/older modem in case you want to switch it back or what not. Not a dev, just wanted to help out and give back to the community.
Thanks @shiamatsu for this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2544612 , no clue if sound would still be effected by non-hlos.bin on MDL
Thanks @dirkdigles for the heads up on non-hlos.bin.

While this allows one to update to the latest baseband, does it address the stagefright fix or is the entire firmware flash needed?

The entire firmware is needed. But it's a moot point if you're running a custom ROM; once you reflash your custom ROM, you're at risk if your devices dev hasn't patched the ROM.

It might be better or its just a placebo effect, mine seems more stable. Really need to try it in your area for yourself and see, too many different configs for this phone to be sure for everyone.
I was able to flash the modem.bin just fine. However, I'm on the NK2 bootloader, and I can't get the non-hlos.bin file to work. I've used Odin 3.04, 3.07 and 3.09, and I get a Pass message every time. According to the Phone info app, I'm still on The NK2 bootloader. I used the phone slot for the non-hlos.bin file. Its probably easier for EVERYONE not on MDL to just update with odin official firmware, then odin TWRP or whatever recovery and restore the backup you should've made. No need to re-root or what not. This post was mainly for MDL.

You can't flash non-hlos.bin on a bootloader that doesn't match. You gotta take the original TAR and do something like this guy did

I don't think you can flash a full 4-file for a different model. Odin saves you a potential brick.

ODIN is prevening the flash to protect your device. The firmware is only partly compatible with your device. FL and F models likely have different partition sizes. This will cause a pit file failure.

You won.t need to flash all the files.. Only the AP file.
But due different kernel, you will kinda break nfc and other stuff

Hello,
I tried to flash Oreo but Odin showed PASS after 4 seconds and when my A5 2017 (German model) rebooted, the IMEI, IMEISV, Bluetooth address etc. became unknown.
I've already flashed Nougat Russian rom and then Nougat German rom without any problems. No root.
Does anyone know a way to fix the IMEI?
Btw: I still have the sticker with the IMEI.
Did you flash BL, AP, CP and CSC or just AP?
I flashed all four.
wipe data from recovery and then flash the original firmware that came with your device but choose the bootloader that u are using now , if your carrent firmware is U2 flash the U2 bootloader but everything else from the firmware that came with your device ... then try again
Try with SmartSwitch should fix problem.
Thanks for your answers, but I already fixed it by wiping data, flashing the original German firmware and doing the same with the Oreo one afterwards!

Yes it's trip your Knox...I think. I flashed Russia version, but I was rooted already.

Flashing an official stock ROM (with Odin) should never trip Knox. At least it never happened to me with other Samsung phones (Galaxy Ace, Galaxy S3 Mini, Galaxy Alpha). I haven't tried with this one, but I bet it will be safe.
