FOH3 Modem.bin files for MDL and non MDL bootloaders - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

UPDATE: https://mega.nz/#!G0sUgLYQ!FLkCzuu_9MjGXuxQAZ3sGIZEGVTZLsy48v92NSZiaWQ
^^^Modem & Non-Hlos in a zip file. Extract and flash what you need.^^^
Non-Hlos <<<(need to be on [OH3] MATCHING Bootloader!)
FOR MDL BOOTLOADER FLASH ONLY THE MODEM.BIN (NOT NON-HLOS)
Everythings working, sound, calling, LTE, Wifi etc.
Steps I took in case anyone needs it: have latest samsung drivers, open odin (I used 3.04). Untick auto reboot, POWER OFF PHONE dont use reboot menu because files wont always flash correctly. Hold power + vol down to boot to download, make sure it shows up in odin. Click PDA navigate to modem.bin (if its not showing up enter ** into file name field and hit enter....poof its there) now flash it and wait until you see success. Unplug phone, Close/Reopen ODIN, Hold power to shut down, boot to download and repeat modem flash to make sure it sticks.
Make sure you have a backup of rom and current/older modem in case you want to switch it back or what not. Not a dev, just wanted to help out and give back to the community.
Thanks @shiamatsu for this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2544612 , no clue if sound would still be effected by non-hlos.bin on MDL
Thanks @dirkdigles for the heads up on non-hlos.bin.
(Quoted link in post #37 is for OK3 not OH3)

Thanks!

Mine were just stuff that should have been put in OP, so I moved it.

While this allows one to update to the latest baseband, does it address the stagefright fix or is the entire firmware flash needed?
Thanks,

The entire firmware is needed. But it's a moot point if you're running a custom ROM; once you reflash your custom ROM, you're at risk if your devices dev hasn't patched the ROM.

It might be better or its just a placebo effect, mine seems more stable. Really need to try it in your area for yourself and see, too many different configs for this phone to be sure for everyone.

I was able to flash the modem.bin just fine. However, I'm on the NK2 bootloader, and I can't get the non-hlos.bin file to work. I've used Odin 3.04, 3.07 and 3.09, and I get a Pass message every time. According to the Phone info app, I'm still on The NK2 bootloader. I used the phone slot for the non-hlos.bin file. Has anyone else had this problem?

Its probably easier for EVERYONE not on MDL to just update with odin official firmware, then odin TWRP or whatever recovery and restore the backup you should've made. No need to re-root or what not. This post was mainly for MDL.

You can't flash non-hlos.bin on a bootloader that doesn't match. You gotta take the original TAR and do something like this guy did

What is the most recent bootloader? I upgraded to the knox one already and was using NB4 non-hlos and modem.
I tested out the FOH3 non-hlos and modem and so far it seems to be working with whatever bootloader I have.

the phone does not boot, and i do not have root. I have not tried flashing the modem through recovery as i dont have a custom recovery on there or a modem.zip
Update - so i was able to get the phone to boot up, installed root and TWRP, installed the note 2 modem but still baseband unknown. From i can understand so far is that its a Tmobile note2, my idiot friend tried to flash the n7100 SW on it, now its showing unknown baseband/IMEI. Is there a fix for this?

If you have trouble getting the bootloader and/or Modem to stick, install "Triangle Away" by @Chainfire and follow the directions to reset your counter (even if it says zero), then boot into download mode, and re-flash them with Odin and they should stick.
To verify, you can download "Phone Info - Samsung" and make sure that all 4 items say NF9 (Bootloader, Baseband, PDA and CSC).

you can just odin flash the one with both of those files combine. its a lot easier than doing both of them separately
@toastido Instead of having people use Triangle away, just tell them they need to boot into Download mode after having the phone turned completely off. If you boot into download mode using an app or using CM's reboot option, the modem will not stick. If you boot into download mode using the button combination the modem will stick.

The reason is that I've not had luck with any other way, and those who have done it with TA (and followed TA's directions) have reported success. I had NE6 not want to update for me until I did TA method. Powered down, battery pull, power up into ODIN mode, flashed in CP, still wouldn't take. I installed and ran TA, following the directions, and when it was finished, the modem stuck like a champ. Obviously YMMV, but I had to reset the flash counter first.

The nonhlos.bin version must match the bootloader version. For example, if you have the NB7 bootloader, you need to have the NB7 nonhlos.bin. Flash the proper nonhlos.bin.

Thanks for the reply. How can I find out what bootloader I have? I pretty much had rooted my MetroPCS S4 shortly after I bought it back in July of 2013. It was still using Jelly bean 4.2.2. with older firmware M919NUVUAMF2. I hope that info helps. Would I need to find a different nonhlos.bin file or update/upgrade my bootloader? AP. Uncheck auto reboot, flash it, when done pull battery, back to download mode and flash it again and reboot. Just to be 100. Sometimes bootloader and/or modems have a issue writing to the device.

Edit: Looks like you're flashing the firmware...good choice.
If you've never flashed a different firmware then you would need the nonhlos.bin from the MF2 firmware. You can find that firmware at this link, under firmware...
http://androidforums.com/metropcs-g...cial-metropcs-s4-root-information-thread.html
Alternately you could just flash the new NI3 firmware like shiny suggested. It would be easier altogether. Your manufacturer warranty has expired so updating the bootloader is no longer an issue.

The firmware? No. Mobile odin doesn't flash bootloaders.
Modems should be able to yet I've never used it

Flashing DOl1 Issues

Ok i know there are some threads or posts that are trying to solve this problem, or they already solved this problem but i cannot find a real solution for my phone. When i flash the latest built DOl1 with odin i get stuck on Samsung Logo. I can pass that when i flash a custom kernel, but i just want my phone to be fully stock.
So i have extracted .tar.md5 and than i have compressed .tar on Linux all the files excluding cache.img. Because it seems that cache.img is causing the firmware from booting after flashing with odin. But without cache.img i missed some features like: keyboard word suggestion and some other things and i feel that the phone is not working as it should, it always have problems.
i have done tons of test yesterday by spliting the tarball into two packages bl.tar and ap.tar but still nothing. Even when i flash separatly cache.img or boot.img i get stuck.
Is there any solution for these ? Does anybody know anything ?
What version of Odin are you using? And where did you down the tar?

Was your phone rooted? Flash the unikernel and it will boot.

I know it will boot with a costum kernel. I just want it all the way stock. Thank you anyway
I just recently flashed back to stock DOI1 in preperation for JUMPing to the note 5 and I've had no problems. I used ODIN 3.10.7 and the tar that @Alex9090 posted in another thread. Maybe try that one and see if it works.
It's weird that it'll only boot with a custom kernel though. I was on UniKernel v9 and flashed stock without issue.

Please make sure you have oem unlocking on before flashing anything. I have paper weight with me because of that

C:\windows\system32>cd c:\users\atinder\desktop\tartool
c:\Users\Atinder\Desktop\tartool>cd bin
//copy files to folder for eg - cm.bin and sboot.bin to pack as Bl.tar
//order entered would be the order they are being flashed
c:\Users\Atinder\Desktop\tartool\bin>tar -H ustar -c cm.bin sboot.bin > BL.tar
//copy files to folder eg - boot.img system.img to AP.tar
//order entered would be order they are being flashed
c:\Users\Atinder\Desktop\tartool\bin>tar -H ustar -c boot.img system.img > AP.tar

You should be able to ODIN flash TWRP then you will need to flash a custom kernel to get root, and flash Superuser.
I have not tried it yet though, so I have not verified if it works or not.
I tried flash clean rom via odin, fully bootup, reboot to download, installed TWRP recovery, then flashed superuser.zip. Bootloop.
There was this other article on the net about the 910C saying they got 5.1.1 but you have to flash back your booloader to 5.0.1.
Odin new firmware, Odin twrp, in twrp flash freeza's beastmode 1.1 for n910T/3, flash supersu. report.

Dunno. Left laptop at work but should since it's not enforcing. I'll know in a few hours.

Alternatively AEL or other non enforcing 5.1.1 compatible kernel are needed for Samsung lollipop 5.1 or greater with root.

Ripped the BL/CP parts straight from the firmware.
Since I assume none of you want to exactly download a 1.84GB file for just a bootloader and modem upgrade (why would you go back to stock), here are the BL/CP parts!

[Update: 13-1-16: PIT file now available to recover from a bad brick]
[DO NOT USE UNLESS YOU NEED TO REPARTITION YOUR PARTITION TABLE, OR YOU'RE IN A BAD BRICK.]
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24369303960684492
INSTALLING THESE FILES
1. Load phone in download mode. (Vol down+Home+Power)
2. Open ODIN3 on your computer. (Make sure the Samsung drivers are installed.)
3. Load the booloader file in BL.
3a. Load the modem file in CP.
4. Hit the start button, and let the files flash.
5. If there are no error messages in the log portion of ODIN3, then you have successfully flashed and upgraded to the 5.1.1 bootloader.
NOTE: At this time, you CANNOT downgrade from the 5.1.1 bootloader, so take caution.

T3 isn't interchangeable with T firmware.
I'm gonna go on the limb here, I'm 50% certain you can't go back to COG2... Be very cautious... When I Odin'ed DOK2 the process seemed odd not sure why lol
Will say modem on DOK2 seems way more stable, I don't seem to have as many data drops, and me personally I could give two s**ts if I can go back to cog2..doesnt matter as you can still flash those roms, I'm on a DOK2 Bootloader and modem with a cog2 rom right now...by the way thanks for the bootloader and modem files man..lol..really didnt wanna go back to stock

Yeah, pretty much agree here. This new modem has given me a lot less data drops. I had really spotty HSPA, with it dropping so constantly. Tested it out during school today and it hasn't dropped.

N910T3 BL+CP parts ripped! I also managed to acquire a PIT file for the T3...DO NOT LOAD THE PIT FILE INTO ODIN3! I HAVE IT IN CASE SOMEONE WHO HAS A SEVERE BRICK CAN USE IT!
Same instructions as before for flashing the BL+CP parts. Reference a few posts up.
