AT&T GS3 to VZW? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Is it possible?
I see a lot of Galaxy S3's for sale cheap on craigslist with bad esn/etc, am I able to unlock them an use on VZW?
Or could I use a US Cellular on VZW?
Thanks in advance.

Please read up. VZW and AT&T have different bandwidth technologies. VZW uses CDMA and AT&T uses GSM. The SGS3 phones manufactured for each company have radios designed for each company's specific network and therefore cannot be used on each others network.

Can you flash GNEX to Metro PCS?

OK, more specifically, is the store the only place you can do it and does data work? Thanks guys.
Don't think many people have had tons of success porting Verizon and Sprint models to different carriers.
But why bother? If you want cheaper service just get a GSM model and put it on one of the dozen MVNOs that run on AT&T and T-Mobile. You'll get faster service and you wont be relying on a hack to get it activated.

Hmmm...thats a good option. Any good suggestions for US?
Find one on Craigslist and go to Simple mobile. They're good and you'll have HSPA+ for like 40$

Does the phone have to be unlocked to use on one of these? Or just GSM?

most GSM versions are already unlocked, if you purchase from the play store the GNex is factory carrier unlocked and will work on any gsm network, if you purchase from craigslist pay special attention to which model number they are selling, if it is i9250 it will come factory unlocked for carriers.

[Q] T-mobile or AT&T

Which carrier will maximize the capabilities of the Note 2?
I can go on either carrier... If calling/data plans are not a concern which carrier should I go?

From the FCC documents I think the way to go is T-mobile.
T-mobile version will have all the bands needed for LTE in USA and all bands needed for use overseas.

But Tmobile will not have the LTE ready for another year or so. In the mean time will AT&T be faster?

If you live in an area where T-mobile is switching over their 1900mhz frequency T-mobile might be faster. If not ATT will probably be faster.
Here is a map of T-mobile progress.

Only problem is the T-Mobile sold the S3 at a significantly higher price then AT&T. Hope it does not happen with the Note.

Assuming that the hardware for the TMO and ATT versions are different, will there likely be a substantially different price for the unlocked versions of these phones?

[Q] Unlocked AT&T phones can verizon sim be used?

I am looking to purchase an AT&T Galaxy Note 2 and need the following question answered... I am aware of the unlock link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2014982 that uses the method of dialing the following keys *#197328640# but here is my concern... Does this method allow you to use a Verizon Sim as if you had purchased a Verizon Galaxy Note 2? In other words does it unlock the CDMA band also?
Thanks for any correct information...

Until vzw goes to VoIP in the next few years the only thing the sim supports is 4g data. Because lte is a gsm based network, sim cards are needed. Nothing else in a Verizon phone used the sim so no you would not receive full service using a vzw sim. Not sure if you'd receive data or not but I'm betting no
Verizon uses CDMA for voice, and CDMA/LTE for data. Not only are the LTE frequencies incompatible, but CDMA is incompatible as well. So no, the Note 2 will not work AT ALL on Verizon.
Also to note, Verizon will only let you activate VERIZON BRANDED phones on their network. You can't buy unlocked phones and use them like a GSM carrier (AT&T, T-Mobile in the US) would. Sprint is the same way.

Ok, so if I purchased a Verizon Galaxy Note 2, and rooted it, I could then use AT&T and later if I finally want to switch over to Verizon, I could... If I am mistaken about this, please let me know. Because I am trying to get a Galaxy Note 2 that will work with both GSM carriers and also work with Verizon when/if I choose to switch.
No. Verizon and AT&T phones/networks are not compatible with each other at all.

This does not exist on ANY Note 2 on earth. Possible with *SOME* other phones, but not any Samsungs, and definitely more trouble than it's worth. NONE will be LTE compatible though. 99% of the GSM compatible phones on Verizon are locked on only work internationally, and will not work AT ALL for the US.

I've been wondering about this. Can't the Verizon "international" phones be unlocked, then used with a US SIM?

"Yes. Verizon GN 2 on AT&T network. Phone is rooted. AT&T APN added with APN Manager Pro. Decent speeds too with just 2 bars. Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2"
Just pulled this off of a different thread... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044449
Seems like the Verizon GN2 can do AT&T with data, as long as you rooted and adjust the APN file. If this is incorrect please let me and the rest of the form know how or why this is incorrect....

I already said data "could" work. That'd not the issue. Getting everything to work is what seems to be unlikely. Different frequencies for voice/text.

Any new Verizon phones can work on any GSM HSPA+ network with some trickery or are unlocked out the box. Some phones work on At&T and T-mobile while others only work with carriers outside the U.S. YMMV.

[Q] Sprint Galaxy S3 on AT&T possible?

I am planning to buy an used Sprint Galaxy S3, but I am using Straightalk (which is using AT&T network).
Is there any way I can use this phone with AT&T? I am searching this forum for more than week now and could not find a definetive answer, so I thought it's time to post. I am novice on android but technical person, so would be able to grasp (or google) technical details.
Looking forward to quick response on this query.
The Sprint version is CDMA. The AT&T network is GSM. They are not compatible.

How would you expect to stick a Straighttalk sim in a CDMA device? CDMA and GSM are completely different. They are not compatible.

I thought S3 is world phone, it supports GSM and CDMA both but carrier do disable either based on what they are not intended to use.
Here is other useful information about how to do it.

That is the Verizon S3 (I535). Also different than the Sprint S3 (L710). The Sprint S3 is most definitely CDMA only.

I keep seeing over and over members telling people that sprint and verizon phones cant work on gsm carriers because its cdma phone. That is wrong it can be done it does have the bands aometimes you have to flash gsm radio on sprint and verizon phones. It can be done. Members if you dont know what ypu are talking about please dont tell people things that arent true. Im tired of seeing false info on such a reputable site. Id u dont know. Dony say you do.
Check amazon for an ATT S3 phone. The one I got was classified as good, and it looks brand new, no marks nothing. I may have gotten lucky. I bought it from Amazon warehouse, not one of the other sellers. The price was a bit higher but it appears worth it. But with amazon if it doesn't meet your standards you can return it.

Verizon Galaxy S4 Mini on US Cellular?

Is it possible to activate a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini (or regular S4) on US Cellular's network, specifically for their pre-paid service (which is now, thankfully, allowing 4G phones)? How about the S4 international edition? I've done a lot of searching and I haven't found anything definitive, though some people have mentioned something about the LTE bands being different and therefore incompatible hardware-wise. But considering that (as far as I know) US Cellular phones can roam on Verizon's network, I'm not understanding why it wouldn't be possible. Could it be as easy as inserting a US Cellular SIM, or are the radios or other hardware different?

your best bet is to find a us cellular edition i think its the r model
verizon wont let you unless you get the unlock codes from them'
its not as simple as a sim swap with verizon devices for the most part,
phone needs to have been unlocked for it to work

I understand that the phone would need to be unlocked, but I also think that Verizon will unlock any phone that is out of contract, if I'm understanding the following correctly: http://goo.gl/vz2Jxn

Well, I'm not going to go and buy a Verizon phone in the hopes that it will work on US Cellular; that's why I posted on here for confirmation to see if anyone has been able to verify this before I actually purchase anything.
is it any different going the other way? can I port a US Cellular S4 to verizon?
