Been uninstalling stuff, freezing apps, stopping startup stuff. Well unfortunately my IR blaster stopped working. Had it set up for 2 different TV's. Is there some process that I may have disabled or something that caused this? I'm running Stock Rom Rooted SuperUser. I'm assuming there are quite a bit of things that I have done, but I don't know exactly what I did WHEN it suddenly stopped...
Some other things I have installed are
Xposed:
- XBlast Tools
- MoDaCo Toolkit 27
- SMS Xposed
- Swiftkey Goodness
ROM Toolbox
Other than changing those settings...
Other than these things, everything else has been unmodified, which isn't saying much because lots of options have been changed. I just don't see any option about IR blaster or anything, or even a process or anything....
Any help would be much appreciated
Thank you!

Make a nandroid, then unfreeze everything and restart.
If that doesn't work, verify the IR blaster works if you do a clean reinstall of your ROM.

Sounds good to me, I've looked at EVERYTHING else it looks to me. Trying to avoid a wipe, and I guess it just depends on how much I really want that remote, it is nifty . Thanks for help I'll try it out and report back.

Well me being stubborn, I figured it out. I feel somewhat dumb I guess.
Do NOT disable/freeze "CIRMODULE"
Apparently that is whats linked to the IR, hence, the IR... lol
Wasn't a whole lot on google when I looked for CIRMODULE, but apparently if your not all willy nilly with the freezing of apps/processes you will be alright.

I've searched and haven't found solid answer. If I root the phone can I remove or freeze the built-in voice command that starts up when I use the bluetooth press?
I want to use a third party app I have had much more luck with. But every time I long press bluetooth when driving(in car a lot) the installed program always starts.
I have someone that is going to root my phone and was hoping this is one of the things that can be done.

Yep, once rooted you can use Titanium Backup to remove those pesky programs and bloatware that came with your device. Also, why not root yourself? There are one touch root methods that are "so easy a caveman could do it"
Thanks! I used to tweak my old Windows phone. Went to Android this spring and just haven't felt as comfortable thinking I will screw something up. If its as easy as one touch I'm in. Sorry to be a pain is there one touch instructions somewhere? Thx in advance

Here ya go, one-touch root thanks to sfhub. This is what I used and it worked like a charm. Just make sure to follow directions. This root is for EG30/EG31/EK02 only. If your running EL13/EL26/EL29 click the link in the directions to use that root. Good luck, like I said Simple.

Appreciate it. Won't bother with a lot of questions from here. Got rooted, Titanium, froze the voice command. Works great.
Is there a list of apps I should freeze? Is there a link that suggests what apps I should look at now that I am rooted and what tweaks I should make?

SWEET! Nice job man... Wasn't too difficult was it? As far as a list of apps to remove, I just pretty much removed all stuff I don't use. (Ap Mobile, Buddies Now, Home Screen Tips, Sprint Mobile Wallet, Yahoo Finance, etc.) those are just some of the items I removed, but might be some that you want to keep. Make sure to do a full-backup of all user apps + system data. That way you have a backup if you need to restore. I've read a few threads about "I've rooted now what," you should do a search for one of those. As far as apps, here are one's I recommend: Roam Control (we get free roaming, so why not use Verizon's signal whenever you want. Just don't use all the time!), Wifi Tether (free wifi tethering with this app, it's awesome), Rom Toolbox (cool app with tonz of features for root users), Adfree (Blocks those pesky ads in some of the apps we use) those are just a few. If your feeling a little saucy, you might want to cruise over to the developers section and check out different roms that you can flash. Good luck jhawk, and welcome to the wonderful world of root!
Search de bloater in the development section. Its pretty awesome if you ask me

Make sure you place the apk in the system/apps using something like root explorer.
no problems here, just installed it as a market update, no pushing req'ed.
its interesting to me that some are getting issues with app installs on this ver?
it Does seem to break a feature or two with TB (from what ppl are saying, out there, on the internets), the dev has been alerted, and I would expect an update soon. as far as Amazon... idk
worked flawlessly for me, but then again, I don't use Amazon, or TB to uninstall appz.

I assume your battery drain is normal, or has not changed since the slowness has happened.
You have not stated if you rooted or custom ROM has been installed.
I found a few apps will do this time to time... depending on when they update. I always monitor my apps so troubling apps are always reverted back to their previous version.
You can use security 360 to monitor your tablet... It is a very good antivirus with some nice built in features. One is memory speed up and usage.
Basically it lets you know what apps are running in background, and releases them to speed up the tablet. I like it because it is like having 3 or 4 apps all into one and does not hog memory.
You can search the Q&A for battery drain if you have issues with battery as well ... there are many threads, so at least one will help. The lengthy threads have some good info near the end... as I try to help using simple methods that work with stock ROMs.

If not rooted, do so and you can eliminate apps that you don't use and that suck up RAM. You can as well move programs to an SD Card to increase the memory available.
Additionally, rooted or not you can go in and clean out the cache of all your apps. They build up over time.

Went to Best Buy and talked to the Samsung rep and he had the answer! First, get rid of SPB launcher then use Clean Sweep (in the store) to get rid of bloatware. Fast as Hell now! App only works on non-rooted I think. But it DOES work! Thanks for the help!

SPB launcher??? It must have been rooted. I have a mostly stock ROM... never had speed issues, but it is all in the choice of apps I install.
Given that many apps are developer driven, and from my experience with developers here on the forum, makes me cautious about installing apps. I install only what I need and does the job cleanly. Sometimes the best apps are buggy when being updated to run 4.4.x, as I seen that a lot since Xmas. Though May has been a good start for the year... many apps have been sorted out, but still iffy as there are thousands of apps to choose from.
I places a thread, and an answer to battery, and apps disabling in a simple and minimalistic method. If anyone is interested, they can search for posts by me... they are within this year.

You should not have needed to uninstall SPB unless you already had a whole bunch of apps. I have 200+ Apps with no issues.
Also Clean Sweep is a nice app, but you can do this already without the added app. Open you Google search, look at the bottom left hand tab, open it and you can do the same thing.

Nope. Not rooted and the launcher worked fine but apparently it slowed the system down. Now it's smokin'.
Hi!
Im currently using a Z1C with the MX Rom 8.50 (awesome rom btw). After years of using Cyanogenmod I wanted to give the stock firmware a try, and the MX Rom seemed to be even better, as it is based on stock but with additional functionality.
But what I am missing from CM: the possibility of cutting permissions of specific apps, even system apps. Because I dont want to give all my data to every app I have on my phone. With Cyanogenmod I even blocked the google play services and several other google system apps with that.
Is it possible to get this done by app, or is it somehow exclusive to Cyanogenmod and some other AOSP-based roms?
The MX Rom comes pre rooted with Super SU (but I think the most of you people alredy know that, haha).
Regards
Don't know this ROM myself, but you should be able to install the Xposed framework and use Xprivacy with it. Despite using CM myself, I still use it because it gives you a much more detailed control and apps don't force quit when some permissions are withdrawn.
Wow, thank you. I dont know much about the Xposed Framework as I never used it before (didnt even know that it exists before I used the MX Rom, because there it is already preinstalled).
Xprivacy seems to be pretty awesome, thank you for this!
Xprivacy is great, although it seems that the dev has abandoned it for his other project netguard (no-root firewall) and no, apps WILL fc if you don't know what you're doing..

Yes sure, especially when taking away some of the "red" marked ones. But I was referring to some of the more "standard" permissions, since Xprivacy instead just uses fake data rather than just plain revoking the permission.
I would have expected more activity here......
seems like people are happy with their devices out of the box... so there isn't much need for mods, custom ROMs and stuff like this?!
I think the modding scene died as stock Android progressively chipped away at the best major features of custom ROMs. Better privacy controls, power savings, night & dark modes, quick tiles. Those were pretty much the biggest selling points for me. The only other custom ROM features people liked were PIE controls and and silly animations.
And with the Pixel you'd lose so many of the Pixel extras if you flash a custom ROM. (recognizing music, probably live transcribe, the nifty Live Wallpapers, etc.
I've been occasionaly racking my brain to figure out if there are any value-added features left to pursue. Say, for LineageOS- they could replace all of the stock audio files with some high quality and very unique sounds, get some interesting wallpapers (a fresh coat of paint.), improve the stock launcher, bundle F-Droid, and offer Google Cloud Messaging and location svcs alternatives. They did/are add(ing) an online backup solution called SeedVault.
It's a difficult thing to think of any original ideas. I also have this per-app fuzzy location idea I submitted to Google issue tracker (which iPhone also came up with recently. I think they call it Approximate Location.)
It used to be more exciting to be a flashaholic but every time I look at the custom ROMs these days they don't "do anything" for me. More minuses than pluses.

I have all these working on derpfest but I generally agree with your point. Im mostly modded for some personal QoL changes that might not be worth having SafetyNet broken, im weighing it atm
I rooted for about 2 weeks until a security update happened. It's such a pain to update without TWRP, I went back to stock. Only thing I miss with root is backing up data with Swift BU. There are a few other things that are nice with root, but not necessary (mainly custom accent colors, and fonts). I know I'd love to be back on Derpfest, but until a stable TWRP is available, sticking with stock.
Just got mine. Love it. Going to enjoy the stock pixel before playing around with root and roms.
Bought the Pixel 4a precisely to avoid all this root and modding stress. And I was not disappointed, everything runs perfectly.
My last 2 phones ran stock with root. This phone is no exception. I'd be on a custom ROM if the stock wasn't AOSP (eg. Samsung, MIUI, etc). Magisk fixes up any annoyances.

Hi,
I just bought a Pixel 4a, downgraded it to A10 and install Magisk and TWRP.
It seems to be running fine so far (1 week).
But I am concerned with your comment above about a security update breaking your root.
Is this right?
If so, then is there a way to stop auto-security updates?

What Magisk modules would you recommend?
I am coming from a Samsung S4 and I liked that the built-in Samsung apps each had a different material color header (Phone - green, Email - blue, SMS - Yellow), but the phone app and message app are just mainly all-white screen apps. But this gripe is theme related.
What other non-theme issues have you used magisk to fix?
I would still root for privacy and security reasons, but I can see why the regular schmegular joe wouldnt need to care. Pixel4a is a great phone stock or modded.

I think you and I have different ideas about what needs to be fixed. Adding busybox, updated tz files, removing system from apps so they can be suspended in the background. That's the kind of stuff I have.

I meant like what modules/apps do you find indispensable?
I am using XprivacyLUA, +AFwall Titanium Backup, Autostarts and Gravitybox to keep privacy up and to keep running apps to a minimum.
I'm pretty happy that I was able to find a phone that I could install the apps needed to get the control over it as I wanted.

I know how to freeze apps using TB, which totally disables them. But it sounds like you are just removing their background running permission, but still let them run when you want.
How do you do that?

Android has the ability to block any app from running in the background. It's a battery saving feature. But you can't do it to system apps. The primary system app I've seen abusing this inability to block it is Google maps. It works just fine as a user-installed app. Magisk debloat apps (I used terminal debloater) remove system apps (without actually having to modify /system) allowing you to install them as user apps.
Another easy way is to grab the system app apk from /system/app or priv-app and copy it somewhere, delete original folder, reinstall the apk, this time it will be a user app with the original your phone used rather than an online dl

Great post, cause i was thinking the same
I just picked up Pixel 4a this month and I am really wondering if I wanna be rooting or not. I previously have always rooted my devices (had Essential Phone as my last one). Root gets me AdAway (adblock), Swift Theme Installer and YouTube Vanced working but thats all really. Trying to weigh up if its really worth it with the Pixel 4a... original plan was to run it stock with root but now not so sure.
