Two weeks ago my galaxy just stopped working. it was at a decent battery; just stopped. I tried charging it but the phone would vibrate. phone would come on, then shut off. I tried it multiple times and same result; a few times the phone would make it to the samsung startup animation, sometimes it would just flash the samsung logo, once it compleley got to my screen start before shutting off.
I brought my phone to get fixed. It took a whole week and the guy said my phone was just not fixable. It would work for a few hours then shut off again, according to him. I suspect he didnt work much on it though as hed rather fix phones with easy problems as mine was a tough one.
I've had to replace my phone with an iphone now, but right now, out of curiosity, I completely took my phone apart, and started using tweezers to play the power on button. The camera part just broke off (not the actual camera) but now my phone is actually charging! The red light is on, and click the main button, it shows the battery being charged. This has not happened ever since the phone broke.
Am I bricked? Is there hope for this phone??? Please tell me there is lol.
EDIT: My phone seems to have restarted! Turned it on and it's asking for my simcard what is GOING ON LOL

idont know what you did there, but it worked plus you gotta be more specific to how the phone broke and could not boot-up to screen

It just randomly shut off. It was if someone would constantly be turning the phone off as soon as I turned it on. But then I couldn't even charge the phone. No red light, no screen, nothing, just vibration. I would try to turn it on sometimes it would get to the boot up, sometimes not, sometimes nothing, just a vibrate.
I literally took tweezers and lifted the green board out from around the power on button (it's an actual tiny white button on the inside). and then it randomly started working again

Could be a power button failure. Happens somewhat often.
Could be battery related too, a cheap replacement battery could strike that off.

agree with what he said, it could be a problem with the power button or battery is not working
off topic did you really get 176Mb/s download or is it fake
if its real then was it WIFI or DATA , i have never topped 50Mb/s both wifi and data) but DATA seems to be 10x faster than my wifi

Someone tried to steal my phone while I was recording a video, when I got it back, the screen didn't turn on. The backlight works when I turn it on, when it boots in, the backlight turns off and the screen remains black and the buttons light up, pressing the power does nothing when its on (the buttons remain on).
Not sure if it can be fixed or if its just broken.
This happened to me a few times, just pull the battery, replace and reboot. If it boots into that screen off phase plug it into a power source, and if it still doesn't light up then leave it off for a few hours, could be an overheat. If all that fails then you may end up on the toilet giving Sprint a ring.

Could be a corrupted battery, you can try pulling the battery and plug the phone into the wall and try turning it on.
Hey,
Pull an Andy Sandburg and throw it on the ground! then take it to sprint and have TEP replace it lol
just kidding, yeah it sounds like a hardware issue of some sort, like they said try a different battery or see if pulling it and trying to boot makes a difference.
When booting hold volume down as well as the power button to see if you are able to boot into the bootloader.
If neither of those things work I would say its the screen or in internal component man and you will need to take it somewhere to get evaluated and fixed!
Good luck!
I hope I helped If I did please hit the thanks button!

I tried different batteries, and unfortunately it seems to do the same thing. I opened it up and I'm almost sure there was some sort of internal damage, but I have no idea what it was.
Its such a nice phone, I am gonna be so sad if it doesn't work. I'm putting it on the charger right now with a dead battery. I hope it works. If not, I have a very expensive HTC battery charger... :/
Its been broken for like a few months now, so I don't have much hope, but if it works then I'll be happy.
hey,
Yeah I have a broken htc and i use it to charge my batteries to, it works really well since you dont power it on but yeah,
I hope it works for you man. good luck

hi. i got a tmobile samsung galaxy s2. I am out of my warranty. i had my phone for about six month thru a warranty exchange.
I was browsing espn.com, then out of no where the phone turned itself off and started to vibrate. I have tried to power it on, and it just vibrates. it turns on a quarter way then begins to vibrate. i left the battery out since the problem started waited the whole night to pass, still just beeps.
I googled how to put phone into discovery mode, but when I do the steps, it also powers the discovery mode quarter way then turns off and starts to vibrate. Is it a sticky power button. The power button presses normally, doesnt resist when i press it.

Sounds to me like a sticky or stuck power button. If you can take it apart...clean around the button that might help. There are a few guides in the Skyrocket forum on how to do it. Search for sticky power button or look at the stickies by Vincom. I have a T989 as well and used some of these methods and it worked. Good luck!

To be honest your probably going to have to the the button replaced I had same issue I tried everything to cleaning it and around it and even prying it away from the connector and nothing worked I had to send it into Samsung and they had to replace the motherboard thankfully it was still under warranty its worth a shot to call em n ask if yours is

I had the same issue, took it apart and tried cleaning to no avail. I called a local cell repair shop and as soon as I said I had an S2 and started to describe the issue, he stopped me and said it was a short in the switch, which had to be replaced, and gave me a quote. Seems to be something of a common issue.

How much was it for the shop to fix this?
I am looking at buying an S2 for $100 that is doing this shut off & vibrate.

I got something similar happening to a S2 I have. I was using it, it just shut down and won’t boot anymore. As soon as I plug it in it'll start vibrating indefinitely, pull the battery and re-insert it, and it'll keep on vibrating indefinitely. Sometimes I see the SAMSUNG logo but that as far as I can get. RECOVERY doesn’t work, ODIN doesn’t work, no button combination works... seems kind of dead to me.
You guys think it’s worth sending it to SAMSUNG and getting a quote to get it repaired?
EDIT: sometimes i can get into download mode for about 3 seconds then it blue screens and reboots. I can get as far as pressing the VOL+ up and then reboots...
So did anyone find a solution or was it a "short in the switch"?

SOLUTION !!! Hey i share your pain... i have an
S2 as well and have been facing the same
problem... my phone is rooted so at first i
thought the problem was due to an unstable
custom rom... anyway the REAL problem is
called a "STICKY POWER KEY". all you need is a
bright light, a can of CRC (the none conductive
type) and a Phillips head screw driver.. you need
to remove the back cover of your phone, remove
your battery and or charger , sim and sd card
then remove the six screws that is holding the
phone together. after that , carefully pry open the
phone and remove the circuit board that has the
power button and the volume Buttons.. this is a
little tricky because in order to get the circuit
board out you will need to detach some
connectors.. now you need to spray some CRC
on the power button using the fine tip straw that
comes with the CRC CAN .. then you just need
to press the power button until you get tired... i
use CRC intermittently while i press, be careful
not to get too much on the circuit board tho..
when you are done , put the phone back together
and let it sit for an hour then replace the battery
and turn on your phone voila ..... feel free to
inbox me if you require further assistance...

BACKGROUND:
At first, it just started turning off for no reason (probably a month and a half ago).
Then this week, it would start to randomly turn off, and start vibrating constantly when charging. After fiddling with the buttons, it would eventually find itself into download mode and then later turn itself on.
NOW:
Monday morning, after several days of draining the battery to 0% (due to me solely charging it for an hour a day), the phone went dead. Then, that night, upon trying to charge it and turn it on, it remained stuck on a black screen. After taking out the battery, it would continuously beep while still connected to the charger. As soon as I put in the battery, it would become COMPLETELY unresponsive, with and without the charger. After fiddling with it for over an hour, I put it down and slept, leaving the battery and charge in the phone.
Tuesday morning, I clicked the power button, and the phone flashed to the lock screen. It displayed it was at 0% battery, but I think it showed a charging sign. I used the phone for almost 2 minutes, checking my texts, before it again went completely black. The phone became completely unresponsive (no beeping or anything, regardless of anything I did). I connected it to a wall charger again, and left it there for the entire afternoon.
Then when I picked it up at around 6 o clock, I discovered that the continuous beeping stopped, and it would only beep after holding the power button for around 5 seconds. It could beep regardless of whether the battery was out or not.
After charging it all that night, I found I could make it flash the Samsung logo for a fraction of a second after holding down both volume buttons and the power button. I looked it up, and supposedly it brings you to recovery mode, but I believe my phone is switching off immediately after bringing up the logo.
At around 12, Tuesday night, I again decided to hold down the power button (just to reassure myself of it still somewhat functioning), and it powered on for around ten seconds (!!!) . It got all the way to the end of the pink loading bar screen, but then beeped and restarted. The second time, it lasted only around three seconds, without even getting to the loading bar screen, before powering off. It became completely unresponsive afterwards, no beeping, regardless of where it was charging and whether the battery was in or not.
Wednesday morning (today), after having left it charge all night, the phone still was completely unresponsive. I then left it to charge the entire afternoon (until now), and it was still completely unresponsive. I took it apart and played around with the power button, but it didn't seem to be stuck. I've now put it back together and leaving it connected to the wall charger once again.
What I've Tried:
Tried connecting it to Kies (computer doesn't even recognize it)
Tried putting into Recovery Mode (unresponsive)
Tried putting into Download Mode (unresponsive)
Switched chargers (unresponsive)
Held power button (beeps, now doesn't do anything)
Held both volume buttons and power button (beeps then quickly flashes samsung logo)
Cleaned off some of the micro usb lint with a tooth pick (coincided with the stopping of continuous beeping, not sure if it caused it)
What I think it could be:
Faulty power button (this is what I thought it was, but now it's not vibrating)
Faulty battery (I kept draining to 0%, but if this is the problem, it doesn't explain the phone not displaying anything when it's connected to a charger w/o battery inside)
Faulty usb charging port (I've heard it sometimes causes vibration problems. wouldnt explain the restarting).
Fried motherboard (phone has had some water damage, but I'm not sure if it's the MOBO, considering its symptoms)
HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
Not Alone
hey, this isnt really an answer, but maybe something to bump this up. Mine went last night.... won't boot, won't charge... goes into download mode but no matter how many times i switch cables, install Samsung drivers, install Keis, or anything imaginable- i cannot get it to communicate with my PC. if i could i would be able to fix this problem.
i really hope that someone will take a look at these issues and give some input. my call to Samsung was useless, i wasted hours with redundancy. I bought the phone used off Ebay in mint condition... have taken it apart and cleaned it with no avail. i fear that soon the battery will be dead and there's no way to charge it. sucks. Samsung really should recall/replace this because so many people have similar issues. whether it's the USB Flex or the battery or the motherboard they should be responsible. looks like ill be getting a nexus 4 afterall.
please let me know if you figure anything out.

It may be your battery, u need to remember why they tell u not to run the phone that way, the batteries our phones run need to maintain a certain charge in order to work correctly, if like u said u only charged it an hr or so a fah for over a week and drained completely more than once u may have rendered ur battery unable to hold a charge, in effect not allowing the phone to run its boot process, I would try a new battery, because beyond that the only other logical explanation is a hardware failure, stuck power button wouldn't render the device unresponsive only when the battery was put in like that, it would bootloop, have u ever just held ur power button in? The phone vib an shuts down a. Vib again n shut down, not become unresponsive, I would try a new battery, and if it works, respect the charge lol

I would agree, seems to be the battery. I bought 2 batteries and a 110V charger on eBay for $30. They don't have the NFC antenna in them but I've never missed it. Not only that but charging that way saves the wear and tear on the USB port.

My Idea
Follow the procedure on this website
galaxys2root.com/t-mobile-galaxy-s2/how-to-unroot-t-mobile-galaxy-s2-jelly-bean/
So i went out on a night out and my battery went flat whilst i was out. I come to start it after charging it up and it just keeps popping up with the start up screen for a split second and then going off. It keeps doing this until i unplug the charger or take the battery out. I managed to get into the reboot screen and tried starting it from there to no avail. The battery is only a couple of months old so that should be good.
I took it to a phone repair shop and they said the board was gone and that there was nothing that could be done with it. Is this the case?
I don't generally turn it off just keep charging when it gets below 20% battery life. I did however install solitaire since i last powered it down if this might have any influence on the situation.

Are you sure the battery isnt completely dead? Did you drop the phone or do anything that may have caused this, or did it just suddenly occur?

No i have charged and recharged it until the green light comes on. The chap at the shop tried another battery also and this had no effect on it.
I dont recall dropping it. It is in a substantial wallet holder so i would think that would take the brunt of the blow even if i had. But it worked fine all night until it powered down then it just started to play up.
Right while messing a bit further it seems to me that the on off button is constantly activating. If i just hold the return button it comes up with the reboot screen and allows me to choose the various options. If i hold the volume button the fastboot screen appears but disappears just as quickly. All of this happens with out me touching the on off button so it looks like it is constantly trying to start up. The button does not have any visible signs of damage. Is this a normal failure point for these phones?
If it charges completely while it's off, then the board should be fine. You can check the percentage in your recovery mode if you can get there.
If the board is fine, it either means that the button is stuck or you have some gunk short circuit in the button.
If it's gunk, you might get away with some rubbing alcohol, If it's in a spray can, even better. If it stuck, it should be opened and see what's keeping it pressed.
I hope this helps.

I have recently purchased the A50 and love it. However, this morning I woke up late for work as my phone had switched off during its overnight charge. There was no way to turn it back on until at least 10 minutes after taking it off charge and frantically running to work. Once the phone was on, it had 100% battery.
Does anyone have any idea why this happened? Could it be an overheating issue?
This has never happened to any other phone I've owned.
I have been charging with the cable the A50 comes with but with the S7 plug. Could that be the culprit?
If that's the case I will just use the A50 plug itself.
I have looked everywhere for an answer. This only happened today and may never happen again but I would like to know other people's opinions.
Don't know why this happened, bug somewhere, software update, don't know, but do you really need to leave the phone on an overnight charge,
The treakle charge at 100% is known to cause heating issues, and I hear the a50 is not the most durable phone,.
Strange that it would just turn the phone off completely

To be honest, it could have been as simple as electric fluctuation. I have no idea.
I didn't charge last night as I as slightly reluctant to do so.
So far, the phone is working flawlessly and hasn't restarted or shut off on its own. I will eventually charge it once the power drops to almost 0.
Will update so as to let everyone know in case there are similar issues out there.

My Samsung A50 just went off by itself after power went off and has refused to come up. Truth is i have charged it several times using this same power and i can tell power is almost stable except that i am using a different charger head to charge for some time now. Wont sill come up, any help or suggestion?
We have several of these A50's and up to now we had 3 of them with this problem.
At the moment that it refuses to turn back on i noticed that the back of the phone is warm , between the top of the phone and the word SAMSUNG . The rest of the phone is cold.
I left the phone alone for about 4 hours without power cable plugged in , after those 4 hours i plugged it in and after a minute it started charging with a indicator of 0% .
You can also try a forced reboot ( hold volume up and down + power button for 5 sec )
Did anyone manage to solve this issue? My girlfriend's A50 has shut down twice overnight now, and the only way to turn it on is by pressing power and volume down for 10 seconds. She has the May update.
Same issue here, i reset my phone to factory settings then install all of my applications and since do that, the issue doesn't occurs any more till now (1 week)
Same here!
Same situation here!
It turned off during the night 3 times now!!
I was late to work The first time, now I have to activate the alarm on my wife's phone, because I don't trust this one anymore.
To turn it back on, you don't need to wait 4 hours, you just have to press power and volume down.
Samsung has to do something about this!

That doesn't sound like it's actually turning off. More like it gets stuck with screen off and you're making a forced reboot with the button combination.

Yeah that might actually be the case, and it's completely hung since alarms won't go off. Apparently it does not seem like an isolated case so I guess we'll see what the store says.
Same situation at my A50 to. No notifications,no reaction, no alarm, no reacttion after simple power button press, only black display. It get alive only with described buttons combination-power+vol up .
The problem occure only after night charging time, in the morning.
I was advised not to leave on charge overnight. I have just got this phone and was asking live chat about something else and she mentioned new smart phones did not require full overnight charges and unplug as soon as it’s finished charging.. also that fully discharging battery to 0% is not recommended either and should be charged around 20% to increase the life of the battery. I think I will try that advice. Always had Samsung phones and been happy with my S5 for many years..but it’s very outdated and decided on upgrade but can’t justify the price of S10 lol.
