Hi, anyone know how I can get rid of the error saying " E: Unable to mount '/preload' " my phone refuses to let me change the rom to anything, it'll only let me reset it with this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086769 but if I try to flash it with anything else, it refuses to install and never leave the whole samsung boot screen. Help please?
so, any help on this or am I screwed?
Read your post on the other thread. My phone wouldn't see the sd card sometimes either. Try going into mount in TWRP and uncheck then recheck the mount sd card option. That made my files show up. Hope this helps!!

Flash CWM recovery, in the advanced tab there's an option to format the preload, then reboot to Android use goo manager to get twrp back if you prefer, I had the same issue and this solved it, good luck!

For some reason that was removed in the latest 6.0.4.3. Luckily Recovery Tools is always behind, and doesn't have the latest version. It flashed 6.0.3.1 which had the format preload option under "mounts and storage". I downgraded CWM, formatted the preload, and then upgraded CWM.
Thank you very much!
Now I'm curious as to why that option was removed in the newer recovery.

Flash stock factory images through fastboot, then start over. Try another recovery version (like twrp 2.4.4.0 or cwm), even though I haven't experienced any issues.

Have you successfully installed Factoty Images like beekay201 suggested? It seems like you haven't. Please do thst and verify the phone is working well before flashing anything else.
You can do it with toolkit, or witb fastboot commands manually it doesn't matter.

Please don't. I'm sure your future problems have already been discussed and solved. Please search before posting.
U.O.E.N.O
So I've been doing quite a bit of searching and I can't find anything pertaining to my particular problem, at least, not that I think.
I rooted, installed a custom recovery and CM11 no problems. My girlfriends however, is a different story.
I used odin to push Philz, used Philz to install SuperSU and KnoxRemover. Used GooManager to install TWRP 2.7.
Now when trying to Wipe/Install, this is what I get inside TWRP or CWM.
E: Unable to mount /data/media during GUI startup
E: Unable to mount /cache
Full SELinux support is present
etc.
It also says no OS is installed, but boots perfectly fine.
What is exactly going on here?
Does anyone know if Kies may resolve this?

Mainly out of curiosity, why did you feel the need to load TWRP when you already had Philz? Philz is an amazing recovery.
Try using a different recovery since there are still bugs in the TWRP 2.7. You can try TWRP 2.6.3.0 which works flawless for me or you could use Philz as @ Mr Struck has noted. Let us know if this fixes your issues?
Definitley Philz now for all my devices. It works perfect everytime for me.

I wasn't entirely familiar with Philz. I wanted to back up the stock rom and flash CM11. I forget how, I had got it to work somehow.
TWRP is a bit more familiar to me lol.
I've been using the multiboot version of twrp for awhile now with no problems and out of nowhere I went into recovery and its a completely different version and now nothing is mounting. Tried flashing a different recovery but nothing

Download your stockversion from sammobile. and flash it with Odin.
Download CWM and the root.zip flash it with odin,so your tab are rooted.
Make an nandroid backup with the recovery.
so is sure that you can go back when you have probs.

I have no external sdcard inserted in the tab. I hoped i would be able to flash the files i copied on the tab.
I kinda have the same problem, Im going to follow this thread...
I may be late for dinner but here is how I flash roms on my 5210. If the rom is the OEM Stock Rom, I flash it from ODIN. This HAS to be done this way. There is no other way to flash OEM Stock Rom.
If I am going to flash something like Grievous or Pimpdroid or BinDroid, I will load the rom on to my internal memory Download folder. Then from TWRP I select install and it goes straight to the download folder. However, before I install any of these roms I will wipe the cache and dalvik cache. Is this wise? I don't know, I just do it because most of what I have read has indicated it should be done.
So if you are still having issues, reload from fresh the OEM Stock Rom for you device. Then reload your favorite Recovery (CWM or TWRP). Set up your device for the minimal way you want to use it. Now, from either CWM or TWRP (or whatever backup app you have) backup your device and save it to your PC. This way you can always go back to standard/stock.
From here you would load the Root.zip AND the rom you want to load on the internal download folder (note - if the rom is already rooted there is no need to load root.zip). Now go into recovery and install the root. Restart then shutdown. Note - you may have to update the SuperSU or Superuser app. Go back into recovery and install the rom.
This is how I have done it and it has worked for me. I am sure I have loaded and reloaded several times different roms. However, I always come back to the Stock ROM via backup restore. I haven't found a rom worth using.
This is how I do it. Your device may not react in the same way mine does. So I advise you on the side of caution that you could damage your device if you follow what I do. Not saying what I do is wrong, but it is how I go about loading and unloading different roms. The key for me is I use the backup/restore from TWRP. I find it to be very fast.
Good luck!
ps... if you have already done this and it did not work, my apologies for coming to party too late.
Thank you for your help. I allready tried this procedure. It all works well, the problem starts with the custom roms i try to install, They install fine but when they boot up I get various forceclose messages. Unusable.
I suspect the isue is with the roms. I have not yet found a working rom for GT-P5220.
Has anyone found some working rom for this specific device?
Hey guys I need some help. Here is a quick rundown.
Just bought a new s3. I747m, came with 4.3 and Knox.
Used toolkit to install TWRP. Odin
After installing TWRP and I reboot to recovery, internal storage says 0mb and sdcard 0mb
When I go to reboot it gives me error about no os installed. But if I reboot anyways it boots into the os no problem.
When I press the middle button in TWRP to show log, it shows this.
E: unable to find partition size for '/boot'
E: primary block device '/dev/block/mmcblk0p15' for mount point '/data' is not present!
E: unable to mount '/data'

E: unable to mount '/system'
E: unable to mount '/data'
E: unable to mount '/cache'
E: unable to mount internal storage
E: unable to mount /data/media during GUI startup
E: unable to mount cache
Full SELinux support is present.
E: unable to mount '/cache'
Running boot script…
Finished running boot script…
E: unable to mount '/cache'
E: unable to mount /data/media/TWRP/. Twrps when trying to read settings file.
Any help would be awesome! If you need anymore info ask away, I'll be as detailed as I can.

You might try step 2 here.
Also - I read somewhere that you should uncheck autoreboot in Odin. Then after Odin is done, power off phone and then enter recovery using the 3 button method (volume up, home, and power button at the same time until you see the Samsung logo, and then release).
Good luck

Hmm, I've tried odin, an app called ROM installer, apparently replaces goo on play store.
I was doing some reading on the password issue, and users with these new gen s3 seems to have this issue and switch to cwm and don't look back. Only when flashing 2.6.3.1 or 3.0. So e people suggested format data, but until I have a working recovery I'd rather not try wiping anything, unless a dev tells me otherwise.
Apparently there might be some HW changes in these last gen i747m.
I'll go download flashify, I can't see it being any different then using ROM installer as it uses the same method to flash the recovery? I dunno I'm just guessing but I'm definitely going to try flashify with d2att TWRP 2.7.0.0 I know 2.7.0.1 has issues.

You should be downloading/flashing the d2can, not the d2att.
It doesn't matter when it comes to ROMs/kernel but for bootloaders and recovery, it does.

Did try d2att once. But all test have been with can version.
Flashing with flashify 2.7.1.0 d2can.
Everything still 0mb.

In the middle button on TWRP it still says
Mmcblk0p15 /data is not present!
In short. Same error as I put in op
And says no os installed when I reboot. But it reboots fine into os.
I still think somehow TWRP isn't installed on the proper partition. Its on 14 instead of 15.

For custom ROMs, d2can ROMs will work on d2att and vice versa. Unified ROMs are now under the label of d2lte.

Yes, flashing anything that tries to downgrade the bootloader will brick it.
Did you try flashing Philz Touch?

Damn. I think my last post is correct then. I'll have to wait for TWRP update.
Cwm worked before.. So I assume philz works too.
Flashing now. I'll have to wait for a TWRP update I believe. Maybe I should contact them if there not aware of this.

I tryed that no luck. I flashed cm12.1 seems to be able to write to both internal and external so i decided to re wipe internal sd, data, cache, dalvik and try to flash UCUFNJ1 again but sticks at att symbol with blue blinking led.

Did you do format data under advanced wipe, the one where you have to type yes? That one is pretty good for solving aosp to touchwiz problems.

If no one hops in with any better ideas here maybe look around the s3rx or tm ROM development threads here. You're not the first person to have this problem, but I thought they solved it by formatting internal sd and flashing a stock ROM first.
If you want something else to try, maybe flash philz touch for recovery wipe and flash with it.

There should be some discussion in that s3rx thread of people having the same problem, touchwiz won't boot after running aosp. Take a look through the more recent posts or do some searching there. Someone might have posted a fix. This problem isn't really uncommon.
Cant find the latest philz touch recovery for the I747.

Did you give philz touch recovery a try? There's a point of view here that it wipes a little better than twrp.

The zips look like they're made to be flashed in custom recovery.

Internal sdcard might be at /data/media/0. I haven't used philz much myself. I think you can go into Mount -> USB storage to get it to mount as a USB device if you need to. It's not automatic like on twrp.
After full wipes and format of data, flash the NJ1 bootloader/modem and then the ROM. I had to do that on mine and it worked

The boot loader and modem thing is a great point. I should have asked you that to begin with, but unless you are absolutely certain you were on ne4 or nj1 boot loader before, do not just find the nj1 boot loader and modem on the forum and flash it or you could hard brick.
Safest way to proceed would be to load aroma file manager on your external sd card. Flash it in recovery then open up a terminal from it. In the terminal enter
Code:
getprop ro.bootloader
That will output your boot loader.

Great. Glad it's working for you.
So it wouldn't boot after wiping with twrp and had to be wiped with philz. Did you get it to flash with philz or did you have to go back to twrp to flash it? Just want to be sure I understand. :highfive:
