TWRP won't install properly - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey guys I need some help. Here is a quick rundown.
Just bought a new s3. I747m, came with 4.3 and Knox.
Used toolkit to install TWRP. Odin
After installing TWRP and I reboot to recovery, internal storage says 0mb and sdcard 0mb
When I go to reboot it gives me error about no os installed. But if I reboot anyways it boots into the os no problem.
When I press the middle button in TWRP to show log, it shows this.
E: unable to find partition size for '/boot'
E: primary block device '/dev/block/mmcblk0p15' for mount point '/data' is not present!
E: unable to mount '/data'
E: unable to recreate /data/media folder.
E: unable to find partition size for '/recovery'
Updating partition details....
E: unable to mount '/system'
E: unable to mount '/data'
E: unable to mount '/cache'
E: unable to mount internal storage
E: unable to mount /data/media during GUI startup
E: unable to mount cache
Full SELinux support is present.
E: unable to mount '/cache'
Running boot script…
Finished running boot script…
E: unable to mount '/cache'
E: unable to mount /data/media/TWRP/. Twrps when trying to read settings file.
Any help would be awesome! If you need anymore info ask away, I'll be as detailed as I can.

You might try step 2 here.
Also - I read somewhere that you should uncheck autoreboot in Odin. Then after Odin is done, power off phone and then enter recovery using the 3 button method (volume up, home, and power button at the same time until you see the Samsung logo, and then release).
Good luck

Thanks! That was quick.
I'm going to try what u said with auto reboot. I'm also going to try with prior 2.7 build.
I am rooted with towelroot, can I just install TWRP with goomanager or ROM manager?

TWRP is asking for a password installed 2.6.3.1

It's asking for a password? That's odd.
I've had trouble installing the latest TWRP with GooManager. I use Flashify now and it works great! Perhaps you can give that a try to get 2.7.1

I would thimk so. You might try TWRP Manager from Play Store if GOO doesn't work. If that doesn't work you could try the Odin method from my prev reply.

Hmm, I've tried odin, an app called ROM installer, apparently replaces goo on play store.
I was doing some reading on the password issue, and users with these new gen s3 seems to have this issue and switch to cwm and don't look back. Only when flashing 2.6.3.1 or 3.0. So e people suggested format data, but until I have a working recovery I'd rather not try wiping anything, unless a dev tells me otherwise.
Apparently there might be some HW changes in these last gen i747m.
I'll go download flashify, I can't see it being any different then using ROM installer as it uses the same method to flash the recovery? I dunno I'm just guessing but I'm definitely going to try flashify with d2att TWRP 2.7.0.0 I know 2.7.0.1 has issues.

You should be downloading/flashing the d2can, not the d2att.
It doesn't matter when it comes to ROMs/kernel but for bootloaders and recovery, it does.

Confirmed I've been flashing d2can .
Did try d2att once. But all test have been with can version.

Flashing with flashify 2.7.1.0 d2can.
Everything still 0mb.
**** this is driving me nuts lol
In the middle button on TWRP it still says
Mmcblk0p15 /data is not present!
In short. Same error as I put in op
And says no os installed when I reboot. But it reboots fine into os.
I still think somehow TWRP isn't installed on the proper partition. Its on 14 instead of 15.

For custom ROMs, d2can ROMs will work on d2att and vice versa. Unified ROMs are now under the label of d2lte.
Have you tried installing Philz Touch via Odin? I had TWRP on my i747m and switched to CWM/Philz because I was getting errors when flashing with TWRP.

Yup I'm well aware of all that. I've own a i747m for a year now. Just replaced it because of water.
Now I'm having all these issues. Wonder if I flash mk5 boot loader will fix it? Or will I brick being as I'm on end2?

Since you have an i747m, have you tried to use Odin to flash stock carrier ROM? Are you on the 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 bootloader?

Everything is stock, just bought it 3 days ago. Device shipped with 4.3 ROM and end2 boot loader (4.3 boot loader)
With Knox.
From my understanding I will brick if I flash anything prior 4.3 boot loader? Or did I read wrong and confused with something else?

Yes, flashing anything that tries to downgrade the bootloader will brick it.
Did you try flashing Philz Touch?

Hmm
TWRP hasn't been updated since Nov?
My boot loader came out in April. How much u wanna bet its just not supported yet. Dmnit.
Does anyone know if its safe to flash mk5 boot loader over end2? Or will I brick downgrading boot loaders?
Or an I just imagining I read that lol

Damn. I think my last post is correct then. I'll have to wait for TWRP update.

Cwm worked before.. So I assume philz works too.
Flashing now. I'll have to wait for a TWRP update I believe. Maybe I should contact them if there not aware of this.

E: Unable to mount '/preload'

Hi, anyone know how I can get rid of the error saying " E: Unable to mount '/preload' " my phone refuses to let me change the rom to anything, it'll only let me reset it with this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086769 but if I try to flash it with anything else, it refuses to install and never leave the whole samsung boot screen. Help please?
so, any help on this or am I screwed?
Read your post on the other thread. My phone wouldn't see the sd card sometimes either. Try going into mount in TWRP and uncheck then recheck the mount sd card option. That made my files show up. Hope this helps!!

Flash CWM recovery, in the advanced tab there's an option to format the preload, then reboot to Android use goo manager to get twrp back if you prefer, I had the same issue and this solved it, good luck!

For some reason that was removed in the latest 6.0.4.3. Luckily Recovery Tools is always behind, and doesn't have the latest version. It flashed 6.0.3.1 which had the format preload option under "mounts and storage". I downgraded CWM, formatted the preload, and then upgraded CWM.
Thank you very much!
Now I'm curious as to why that option was removed in the newer recovery.

[Q] TWRP/CWM unable to see/mount internal/external storage S3 4.3

So I've been doing quite a bit of searching and I can't find anything pertaining to my particular problem, at least, not that I think.
I rooted, installed a custom recovery and CM11 no problems. My girlfriends however, is a different story.
I used odin to push Philz, used Philz to install SuperSU and KnoxRemover. Used GooManager to install TWRP 2.7.
Now when trying to Wipe/Install, this is what I get inside TWRP or CWM.
E: Unable to mount /data/media during GUI startup
E: Unable to mount /cache
Full SELinux support is present
etc.
It also says no OS is installed, but boots perfectly fine.
What is exactly going on here?
Does anyone know if Kies may resolve this?

Mainly out of curiosity, why did you feel the need to load TWRP when you already had Philz? Philz is an amazing recovery.
Try using a different recovery since there are still bugs in the TWRP 2.7. You can try TWRP 2.6.3.0 which works flawless for me or you could use Philz as @ Mr Struck has noted. Let us know if this fixes your issues?
Definitley Philz now for all my devices. It works perfect everytime for me.

TWRP is a bit more familiar to me lol.
I've been using the multiboot version of twrp for awhile now with no problems and out of nowhere I went into recovery and its a completely different version and now nothing is mounting. Tried flashing a different recovery but nothing

If I am honest I am not sure ..I ran a couple of different roms then when trying to get back to stock this is where it all has gone wrong
I think the roms I used were leedroid and then viper
I think when installing viper it asked to tweak things that I oked
I occasionally get the same error but it has never stopped me from installing a ROM.
could it be because my phone is s on
when i try to instal a rom using fastboot abd i get the eror (9 ru_security_fail zip from usb command ion download mode)
just tried running this ..........TWRP Backup (Untouched System Image + Boot)
all installed then at very end got this .failed to mount '/devlog (invalid argument)
now just boot looping
Does anyone have any ideas before i skim the phone out the window

I'm honestly not sure but I've had that devlog error before but like @lightweaponx said it never stopped me from flashing a rom. It happened when I kept messing with kernels and i think it has to do with disabling logging (stops device from creating logs to increase performance) but even then that error never caused me issues. Id suggest trying different twrp version if that doesnt work then perhaps you should RUU and retry it all from scratch.
There are a lot of threada and posts to get back to stock search arounr and im sure youll find it

Flash RUU and stay stock untill you actually know what your doing. Post your CID.
I have tried flashing stock ruu using the zip file but it wouldn't work
I managed to change Karnak last night and install leedroid everything went through but then on booting up it asked for decryption

How are you flashing RUU? You need to format data if you get that message. Can you please post your CID? I have a feeling your trying to either flash the wrong RUU or your trying to do it in twrp which you can't.

Fastboot the stock boot.img to remove twrp. Then try using twrp version 3.3.0-0. You will still throw mounting errors when you flash zips, but it will still work :good:

On Android 10 the /system partition is locked at read only so it can't be mounted in TWRP as read write. To do a nandroid backup go to mount and select mount partitions as read only and check /system and /vendor then do the backup
