What the hell happened? The phone became almost unresponsive for no reason whatsoever. No new app caused this. Had to reboot. Everything was fine after. The "bug" ate almost 20% of my battery. Although it regained a few percent after. Maybe it knows Google dropped support on it lol. Veryncurious.
I'm on stock 4.3, rooted.

Nope. Everything's stock.
Was it just a weird bug or did this happen to anyone before?

OK, my first day with this phone yesterday, it locked up when using the xda app. Today, it locked up twice while using the xda app. Its never locked up on anything else so far, though it could be a coincidence. Each time I had to remove the battery. Has anyone else experienced the same thing? If its a defect with my phone, I can still file this phone as a defective unit. On a side note, I had a galaxy note before this phone for 2 weeks and not once did it ever lock up.

Probably app. It happened a lot on my last phone. Less so on the nexus.

it froze the first time i launched it. but now i havent seen it stall at all
Definitely the app. Have the same issue here, and on my previous two HTC phones. Only other apo I have crash sometimes is handcent, although I've heard a recent update has caused that to FC a lot on all phones, so no issue really.
Certainly no issue with you phone, XDA app has needed some tlc for a long time.

Never had one single lockup on my gn in two weeks of owning it using 4.0.2
Updated today with 4.0.4 ota and within hours i have a dead phone and wouldn't respond to anything. Had to pull the battery to reset.
Is completely stock, not rooted or unlocked.
Anyone else with issues?

If you can, I'd suggest you do a factory reset (aka wipe the /data partition). If you're willing to root, maybe wipe the dalvik cache too.
Thanks i might consider doing this if it happens more.
Though i dont see why i should need to, given it's unmodded, google sanctioned hardware running google sanctioned apps and os.
Sorry but i'm at the point of ranting, after 2 years of a wm 6 phone i thought the days of pulling the battery were long gone!
Sigh...

Incidentally, the battery took a 20% hit in 30mins when it froze

I have the same issue. 4.0.2 (rooted, stock) was perfect for me. There wasn't any issue with it. Now that I tried the 4.0.4 OTA update, it will do a random reboot about once daily. It is pretty annoying. Then I decided to flash the 4.0.4 factory image from google's website and then root it shortly after. The same problem exists. I don't think 4.0.4 is as stable as 4.0.2...

My phone never made it past "Android is upgrading... Optimizing applications"
Would boot up to that, screen would wash out, then go black. Pulling battery doesn't help
Hmmm, been ok since the lockup, until tonight when i just saw the google logo on the screen... was in the process of a random reboot.
I have also noticed the wifi off when sleeping option doesn't work
Shame because the battery life is a massive improvement!

Sometimes people confuse a "random reboot" with the graphical shell crashing, I'm not saying that is whats happening with you, I dont know. Just throwing it out there.
Only time I've frozen on 4.0.4 when I was testing an admittedly flawed video.

Just happened again while sleeping. Uptime has reset so is rebooting. Battery took a massive hit at the same time.
Would love to know if anyone else is seeing this?

Same problem with reboots on android 4.04
i got the same problmen with reboots
The day after I uptated my galaxy nexus from 4.02 tot 4.04 it started rebooting twice a day. After a few days i did a downgrade to 4.02 and everything was fine. Yesterday I flashed android 4.04 again. Guess what? Random reboots!
Same problem. Rooted, running stock 4.0.4. Verizon must know about this by now if so many people have the problem. Where's 4.0.5?!

Mine seems to get the "sleep of death" quite often. I will be using it, shut off the screen, go to turn it back on and nothing happens. If I hold the power button in long enough it will reboot on its own. But sometimes that doesn't work and I have to pull the battery.
Running CM9 Nightly. (the one dated 4-7-12)
I get this on my KFire. Running CM9 Energy KANG.

Anyone notice battery life improvement today after the maps update? It seems my phone lasted quite a bit longer than usual today. Just curious if I'm the only one. I'm running Cm10 by the way.

My battery is extrodinary today as well, not sure if it's related. I did just install autostarts though as well to stop maps and other things from auto booting, if it is that app, it's working better then I ever would have dreamed.

Not sure but mine seems to be better too. Hard to tell though since I've only been using my GS3 for a few days now.

I've noticed the improvement. I've read that there was a glitch causing Maps to keep the phone awake that was fixed with that update.

Edit: Oh I thought you meant the OTA update..
I have my maps at stock because the updates are buggy and keep it running in the background :/
Well, it happened, I experienced the first real freezing up yesterday. Everything just became un responsive while on a call, trying to end a call, the person I called couldn't hear me but I showed 3 bars of signal then the dialer froze up and I had to pull the battery out to restart the device. Same exact thing happened on my Mom's note2 today. I can't believe anything could cause this phone to stutter so badly. My phone is stock rooted T Mobile ROM. My mom's is totally stock.
I know all electronics can have the occasional hiccup. Anyone else have this happen? Don't get me wrong, I totally love this phone, gps is solid, navigation got me to a location in an unfamiliar area when I was a bit lost. Google maps had one place on the wrong side of the street 800 ft from it's actual location but I can't be certain if it was a clear night. There was rain in the area.
As I said first hiccup in two months.

Could you please say it again? I couldn't understand if you have a problem with your phone or not.
Sounds like a common application that is installed on both your and your Mom's Note IIs experienced a small problem. Check Notifications to see what may have updated on both phones.
Its really hard to know what causes the freezing as we install different apps everyday. It can be from some apps we just installed or from something else. Luckily for me, I haven't had anything like that since I got this in Oct. 2012. I rooted mine in December but with stock ROM and still perform as great as before.
I usually restart my phone weekly. Its just like something that I used to do in all my old phones. Maybe it helps freeing up some memory.
Some of you root the phone only to keep the stock ROM and stock Kernel, etc.
The phone really does not need it.
Unless you are looking to modify the unit by over clocking it and changing the stock ROM to something exotic, there is no need to root the Note II.
When you flash changes to the unit, there are going to be bugs and other things that pop up now and then.
I have a Sensation runing Sense 4.1, Android 4.0.1, overclocked to 1.83 Mhz, with all types of tweaks. The Note II blows it away in every way, stock.
I will not root it until there is something worth flashing.
The phone just came out a few months ago.
I am sure there is a nice ROM caming down the pipe.
I will be waiting.
I really hope I don't run into this issue with the freezing! I got the phone on release day in store and haven't had any issues thus far.
C.S.
maybe try rebooting every once in a while.... keeps things fresh... i reboot at least once a day.
So i have a htc tmobile g2 and i have been running cm7.2 for a while and been running great but aboit a month ago it got extreamly slow and lagguly and alwase over heats with aboit 5 minutes of use. How could i fix this
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
So many possibilities I don't know where to tell you to start.... Could be hardware such as a bad battery, not as likely so I would start with some tests to see if you have a poorly coded app or if something in the framework is conflicting. Possibly something on sdcard causing issues, could be an overclock issue.... Well can you remember anything you did around this time when it went bad, coincidences are rare enough that chances are you inadvertently did something.
Try pulling a log cat to debug the issue or get an app that can track issues for you, or just wipe SD, wipe phone, and reflash
