[Q] cant use int'l unlocked Glxy Note II (7100) on Verizon? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
While I was deployed in Afghanistan I purchased a Note 2 GT-N700 from an Italian PX. Used it over there and worked great. Come back to the States last week and Verizon, my carrier, says I can't use it here because they don't have that IMEI number. Tried putting my active Verizon mini SIM in it from my GS4 and nothing.
Can I salvage this situation? I really like the bigger Note 2. Can I root or something?
Thanks in advance.

Verizon is CDMA. 100% not going to work.

Thanks; so it'd only work with ATT or TMobile SIM cards?

2G only for T-Mo, some 3G for ATT, no LTE on either. N7100 is not well suited to use in North America, better to sell it & pick up the VZW variant (if you can get past the branding on the home button).

Rogers Wireless and the Galaxy Note II

Hi all,
I have a question. I was looking at gsmarena.com for the note 2's specs and noticed that the LTE version (N7105) has LTE for 700MHz and 2100MHz.
My question is will this work on the Rogers network here in Canada? (Toronto specifically)
From what I've been reading Rogers offers LTE on the 1700/2100 bands. Since the Note 2 (N7105) has the 2100MHz does it mean it'll work or will it need both 1700 AND 2100 to work?

Anyone?

It will work with one band but you can expect weaker signal and may not work well inside buildings. Normally if both bands are available it will switch to whichever has the better signal. With only one band its unable to do that.
I would recommend waiting for the Rogers note2 if you really want LTE.

the n7105 should work with rogers as it has the same lte specs as the samsung s3 i747
I try to use a GT-N7100 with Rogers.
The Note II work perfectly except one problem: I can't make a call. Rogers technician keep saying my phone is not unlocked for Rogers Canada. The data portion work correctly at 3G, and even SMS can be sent correctly, but no call can be made by the GT-N7100.
Anyone ever see such a behaviour?
Update:
I'M sorry, this technician has mislead me for 3 days assuring me that my phone was not unlocked.
The test he made finally was with a micro-sim that where valid but not having any more money on it to permit normal call.
That's stupid.

[Q] Which Note II to buy

Initially I thought there were two variants of Samsung Galaxy Note 2, N7100 and N7105(LTE) but it looks like there are more.
I checked the NOTE 2 at my local T-Mobile store and it was SGH-T889.
I am planning to buy a (no contract/unlocked) Note 2 with LTE support. I can buy the unlocked N7105 online but it costs $825.
I was thinking of buying the retail t-mobile SGH-T889 for $650 plus taxes but I am concerned:
1) T-mobile support told me that I will not be able to use any other SIM.
2) Even if I get it unlocked from (cellunlocker.net), will I get any carrier LTE coverage ?
I frequently travel (international) so would like to have a Note 2 which supports LTE for multiple carriers ?
As per this Anandtech, T-mobile note 2 was unlocked and it picked up ATT LTE.
Phandroid also confirmed that t-mobile supports LTE.
I had a chat with Negrielectronics support and they informed that n7105 does not support ATT LTE.
Experts, please suggest/confirm if the t-mobile note 2 will support LTE overall ?
Thanks
LTE are carrier specific in the US. US Lte are incompatible with international Lte. That's why there are different models gsm of iPhone 5.
Buy the Lte model for the place where you spend your most time.

[Q] Unlocked AT&T phones can verizon sim be used?

I am looking to purchase an AT&T Galaxy Note 2 and need the following question answered... I am aware of the unlock link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2014982 that uses the method of dialing the following keys *#197328640# but here is my concern... Does this method allow you to use a Verizon Sim as if you had purchased a Verizon Galaxy Note 2? In other words does it unlock the CDMA band also?
Thanks for any correct information...

Until vzw goes to VoIP in the next few years the only thing the sim supports is 4g data. Because lte is a gsm based network, sim cards are needed. Nothing else in a Verizon phone used the sim so no you would not receive full service using a vzw sim. Not sure if you'd receive data or not but I'm betting no
Verizon uses CDMA for voice, and CDMA/LTE for data. Not only are the LTE frequencies incompatible, but CDMA is incompatible as well. So no, the Note 2 will not work AT ALL on Verizon.
Also to note, Verizon will only let you activate VERIZON BRANDED phones on their network. You can't buy unlocked phones and use them like a GSM carrier (AT&T, T-Mobile in the US) would. Sprint is the same way.

Ok, so if I purchased a Verizon Galaxy Note 2, and rooted it, I could then use AT&T and later if I finally want to switch over to Verizon, I could... If I am mistaken about this, please let me know. Because I am trying to get a Galaxy Note 2 that will work with both GSM carriers and also work with Verizon when/if I choose to switch.
No. Verizon and AT&T phones/networks are not compatible with each other at all.

This does not exist on ANY Note 2 on earth. Possible with *SOME* other phones, but not any Samsungs, and definitely more trouble than it's worth. NONE will be LTE compatible though. 99% of the GSM compatible phones on Verizon are locked on only work internationally, and will not work AT ALL for the US.

I've been wondering about this. Can't the Verizon "international" phones be unlocked, then used with a US SIM?

"Yes. Verizon GN 2 on AT&T network. Phone is rooted. AT&T APN added with APN Manager Pro. Decent speeds too with just 2 bars. Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2"
Just pulled this off of a different thread... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044449
Seems like the Verizon GN2 can do AT&T with data, as long as you rooted and adjust the APN file. If this is incorrect please let me and the rest of the form know how or why this is incorrect....

I already said data "could" work. That'd not the issue. Getting everything to work is what seems to be unlikely. Different frequencies for voice/text.

Any new Verizon phones can work on any GSM HSPA+ network with some trickery or are unlocked out the box. Some phones work on At&T and T-mobile while others only work with carriers outside the U.S. YMMV.

Are all note 2 models apn locked? Vzw says yes...

Greetings.
The wife wants to travel and live the next year plus In the philippines using a note 2.
We live in the USA and here are two very different versions of what we have been told we can do.
SAMSUNG SAYS:
(Rep is at the new Samsung store in best buy)
buy an $850 unlocked note 2, insert 4g lte carrier SIM in philippines, all is good. Do a happy dance.
Btw she says, you won't get the cdma vzw model but a gsm like tmo or att...
Vzw phones won't work on foreign networks properly
VERIZON SAYS:
buy the vzw carrier subsidized phone and its already unlocked. Talk and text no problem but DATA NOT GONNA WORK.
Just pop in a foreign SIM and boom.. just the apn settings are locked by Samsung.
They don't carrier lock them.
Vzw tells me Samsung lower level sales doesn't know this but higher up support does..
She recommends I get a razr or iPhone 5 as they apn isn't locked.
So which is true?

Get an unlocked gt n7100. Gsm model. And you can do much better than $850 easily. Without trying you should be able to get one for less than $600 after tax. You probably won't get lte in Philippines though

Okay interesting since the largest carrier there is claiming that their 4g is currently active.
They charge a amount for 21gb of data via a usb modem though (like $87 usd/month)
Thanks.

[Q] Question about N900T - Would all unlocked N900T work on AT&T with LTE?

I saw an N900t on Ebay. The seller sent me a picture of the phone.
Here it is
It says model number is SM-900T but the seller says it won't work with LTE on AT&T, even though the phone is unlocked. The seller is nice enough to tell me that it won't work with ATT LTE..
The instruction manual photo says it is n9000.. but he sent a picture of n900t label on phone.
Are there n900t phones which won't work on AT&T

I would also like to know if this would work.
I have an unlocked Tmobile Note 3 working on a Straight Talk ATT sim card. Its the old sim with the att.mvno apn. The new sims work with a tfdata apn. My status bar does not say 4G lte just 4g. Wondering if I need the new ST sim to get LTE if that even works .
Anyone else have some insight?

Thanks.
Using an N900T on AT&T LTE as well. There is a big forum in AT&T General on this. Good luck.
The posts from people using it answers your question but you can do some searching as this has been talked about quite a bit. From what I have read, the T-Mobile version was the most desirable model since it includes all the ATT bands plus the T-Mobile band so it will work on both networks. The ATT model is missing the T-Mobile LTE band so that is why some people using ATT bought the T-Mobile version to begin with. It lets you use it on either network without restrictions.
Hope this helps...
He might using the tmobile version to take pictures and replies to ebay questions, which doesn't mean he using the same phone he selling
Yes the SM-900 Model won't support LTE because its international variant so its only supports 4G.

just checked and got a 22Mbps download speed with the LTE APN configuration
What , I think, many don't realize that you should register at&t lte capable device imei on your account. Then this phone should work fine. For example, if you already have at&t sim that gets you lte - you are fine.
However, if you buy the tmobile phone and then try to open new at&t account while using imei of n900t - you may not ever get lte.
Opposite is the same. I registered my old at&t note 2 with tmobile and never could get lte. Not even when I got n900t. Support was clueless. Last thung I said to csr before she wanted to file a ticket to their engineers - 'could you please switch my imei' and oops I got lte in 2 minutes.
