When I open the gallery app it is grabbing all the photos I have there this is a major issue for me because I have over 1300 books with covers and I have thousands of photos saved in my dropbox account. This is causing my gallery to be extremely slow.
Is there a place in settungs I can limit what gallery looks at? Or do I need to go to each folder and put .nomedia file in each folder.

go to gallery app, click options, click view by and from there you can choose which accounts to have or not to have inside your gallery. just disable dropbox, picasa etc. and you will see the speed back to normal. hope this helps.

I have 2 random photo albums in my gallery which I can't delete. Instant uploads and scrapbook photos. I don't want these. 1 has a random photo in it I never took and the other is empty. How can I delete them, I can't find a way to delete! Most annoying!

Hello,
Instant uploads is the photo album created by Google+ and I must say it's pretty decent. It uploads (if you agree at the setup) your pics to G+ and stores them for you. No one can see them, you have to decide if you want to publish them. You can delete it from G+ account on your PC (haven't tried from mobile).
Second one is either another G+ photo album, or one from Picasa? Try Picasa Web Albums to see if it's there.
Cheers

Hello,
How are you?
I have a small problem.
My gallery app shows 4 albums I do not want there.
I select them, but there is no delete option.
The albums are:
- Wall pictures
- Profile Pictures
- Blogger Pictures
- An experimental blog I started.
I went to the account sync and disabled google photos, but the albums are still there.
Any solution?
Thank you.
Best wishes!

Use Root Explorer (download it from Play Store) to create a file called .nomedia in whatever folder on your sd card from which you do not want any pictures showing up in your gallery. This works 100%

Swyped on my Galaxy Nexus running AOKP with Franco Kernel, overclocked to 1.4GHz
You can also just do a search from your computer of your phone and copy and paste the file to where you want. Subdirectories will also be excluded so just stick it in the parent folder.
I have some photos in my SD card which showed up properly in the gallery before. However, all those photos don't show up after I flashed a new Rom. Only photos taken after flashing are showed in the gallery. I tried to reboot, wipe cache, rescan media but nothing success.
Any one can help?

Yes, because different Roms use different folders for gallery. Just take a picture and browse your card and see where it puts it (somewhere in DCIM folder). After locating the folder just move the photos from old folder to the new one where your picture was taken and you should now see all your photos.(Some roms put pictures in folder named "100Andro", other in "pictures", "images", "camera".....

Yes, I toke a testing picture, located the new folder "Camera" and move all old photos to there. But still just the testing picture is shown up. All moved old pictures are still missing in the gallery. Already reboot to renew the media library.
Can you try using a 3rd party pic viewer I use quickpic, which seems to work well.

Thanks. I also used quick pic and it loads all pictures. But I prefer SE stock gallery as there is a geo map function, so wanna sort out a solution.

try some of these
- clear all defaults for the gallery app
- clear all data
- take out and put back in sd card
- make another gallery app the default and then reboot, clear defaults and revert default back to the stock gallery app
Hi,
I have noticed that, default camera apps load all the pics from your storage's "DCIM" folder and its subfolders.
Do we have any solution on this?
its supposed to do that. DCIM folder is specifically for the pictures taken by your camera. just put the pictures in a different folder than DCIM. They wont show up in your camera app and in default galley's collection.

Agree, but other folder under DCIM are not created by me, these are app generated. Like FB App, creates it folder under DCIM as "FaceBook" to save the pics from app. What do you suggest?

I tried the same thing and yes any file in DCIM or in its sub folder is showing on camera app. I think this has to do something with the facebook app. None of the other apps are saving pictures in the DCIM folder in my phone.

Which image viewer app would you recommend for this phone?
I know we have the default "Photos" app, but it only works if you include the folders.
For example, I don't include the "screenshots" folder, because I don't want to back it up to the cloud (Google Drive) by Photos app.
Tx.
You don't have to include the folders to view the contents?!
Just goto the menu and go in device folders.
You can just turn off folders for backup on Google Photos

I like a program called F-stop gallery pro. It's worth the money IMHO.
