Hello,
How are you?
I have a small problem.
My gallery app shows 4 albums I do not want there.
I select them, but there is no delete option.
The albums are:
- Wall pictures
- Profile Pictures
- Blogger Pictures
- An experimental blog I started.
I went to the account sync and disabled google photos, but the albums are still there.
Any solution?
Thank you.
Best wishes!

Use Root Explorer (download it from Play Store) to create a file called .nomedia in whatever folder on your sd card from which you do not want any pictures showing up in your gallery. This works 100%

Swyped on my Galaxy Nexus running AOKP with Franco Kernel, overclocked to 1.4GHz
You can also just do a search from your computer of your phone and copy and paste the file to where you want. Subdirectories will also be excluded so just stick it in the parent folder.

I have two problems and i wanna ask if there is anyone alse sharing this problems
1. Gallery it froze every time, sometimes when i open it, sometimes when i open folder there... after update I literally didnt see single photo there
2. Music, songs have different album pic...
Porcupine tree is Offspring now... Slipknot is Sex pistols etc. restart didnt help..
what's wrong??
I don't know the problem but there have been a few issues with it going slower etc with some people.
I had same problem gallery freezing. I think some files are reason because of gallery app try to create thumbnails, and i put in folders .nomedia files which i suspected. and now its ok this fix my gallery "force close" problem.

Just put a .nomedia file in the folder where you have the pics and videos you want to hide.
You might already have this file in your sdcard (some ebook reader or other app that has pics not show in the gallery).
If not, just create an empty text file and rename it.

Hi. I only got issue with my gallery app.
It wont load all images in folders. Wallpapers nor all icons. I loads some fine, and videos and picasa too.
Tried refreshing and clearing cache. Also refreshMedia in FX fileexplorer.
Sendt fra min Galaxy Nexus
It shows images downloaded from web or dropbox. But not the unzipped images or copied from pc.

Hey having a similar issue. My gallery app is only displaying photos I've taken with the camera, but not any other image files found on my SD card.
Currently running GummyNex rom.
The only method i know is to do a media scan.
If your phone is rooted you can use SAMBA to request a media scan.
Not rooted.
Tried scan in fx explorer.
No luck
Tried Settings->Apps->All-> Gallery-> Clear data?
I just had literally the opposite problem. My Gallery would show no photos on the device- just the online albums.
A "Clear Data" (in settings) and "Force Stop" fixed it. Still odd though. Also, pictures were still there, it was just like Gallery couldn't read the internal storage...
Shows sine. But not folders in folders
Hey guys, I had issues too with my gallery so I just went to market and installed Quickpic! I will never use the default Android gallery again. It is flawless and has lots of features. Hope this helps.
This is a workaround i think

Hello there I'm having a similar problem where if I move a jpg anywhere into the internal storage manually, including to where the camera stores images, the pictures do not show up in the gallery. I've also tried quickpic with no results. Thoughts?

Anybody at all got anything on this?
I have a chat app on my device that can save received photos locally. The photos are stored in /sdcard/(appname)/images. I prefer that those images do not show up in Gallery, so I placed a .nomedia file in /sdcard/(appname)/ and also in the images subdirectory.
However I noticed after the upgrade to 4.2, when I saved a photo from chat, an "images" album appeared in Gallery with just that one photo in it (and not the others in the directory). I long pressed and chose Details to verify, and indeed it's a photo in the images directory that has a .nomedia file (the exact path it lists is /storage/emulated/0/(appname)/images)
I tried forcing a few media rescans. It's sticking around. Something I tried yesterday resulted in one of said images getting hidden again from Gallery but I can't seem to reproduce that with a newer image.
Has anyone else experienced this? It seems that perhaps the chat app explicitly published the photo to the media database, and in <4.2 the .nomedia file prevented it from staying there, but in 4.2 it appears.
Nobody just gets respect, first the .nomedia files have to earn respect. jk
QuickPic will let you hide the folders w/o using .nomedia files.
It would appear that QuickPic's feature to hide photos from Gallery uses .nomedia files as well. And I don't want to be using a 3rd party gallery.

I believe there are two ways to do it within the app - HIDE & EXCLUDE. One of these does not use .nomedia i believe.
The reason is because I use PowerAmp and it downloads album art, but I dont want that showing in mt gallery.. Quickpic hides the folders so I dont see them, and because PowerAmp still uses the album art, I dont think it's placing .nomedia files.

Hide uses a .nomedia file to hide it from all galleries. Exclude means QuickPic won't show it but has no effect on other apps.
Anyway it seems that renaming the photo and rescanning does the job. Once it finds the old photo path is dead, it doesn't re-add the new path.

Okay good deal.:good: Yeah I knew the "exclude" feature doesn't work in other apps, there are allot of people that like QuickPic better than the stock gallery, thought it was worth a try you might too. It works perfect for me just for the hiding folders w/o using .nomedia.
Hello guys! Greetings from a newcomer to these forums!
I would like to know if any of you know how to get rid of the facebook albums that appeared in my gallery on my S3. i've tried conventional tactics like trying to delete, unsync, etc...but to no avail.
Also, is there any way to set where a certain file ends up such as where a picture goes when you take a picture with the camera app? I've moved the folder where the picture gets sent too via the "My Files" icon and moved that folder to my SD card but when i take a picture it still ends up in a new folder on my phone memory.
One more question. I have a Picasas album which I cannot delete as well in my gallery, any advice?
Apologize in advance about all the questions and I appreciate your responses!
You even get your picasa web albums... even if you tell it not to sync albums in sync settings. So I froze the default gallery, and use QuickPic as my daily driver.

Exactly what I did. I fooled around for 25 minutes trying to remove that extra junky: Samsung failed hard here. QuickPic is great: fast and you can pick which folders to show!
All my music albums are appearing in the gallery and i have hundreds of music albums !! (Didnt happen in my old samsung phone which was very latest too - A70) - And, i have confirmed its a one UI 2.0 thingy.
I have songs with custom Albumarts embedded transferred from PC to Mobile.
create a .nomedia file in the music folder and it will stop the pictures from appearing OR in the gallery app click menu settings and hide the folders

I just created a blank text file with ".nomedia" name and copied it to my Music folder on my phone sd card, and the albums are still there.
PS: I want to make file on my PC only, hence pls inform solution tht can be done via computer.

Do it like this:
If you have all your music files in a folder called Music, rename the folder by adding a dot to the folder name with a file explorer app. (like this: .Music)
This way the albumart isn't visible in gallery (have done this myself)
Keep in mind that some music player apps aren't able to find the music in the folder when done the above.
In my case Pulsar+ couldn't find my music in the folder if I let it scan for music.
Omnia (from the same developer as Pulsar+ is working fine tho.
With Omnia I have to manually tell Omnia in which folders contain music.
While Pulsar+ just scans the phone for folders containg musicfiles and I can add exclusions afterwards.
Keep in mind also that some file explorer apps can't find the folder after you have added the dot in front of the folder name.
I am using Solid Explorer and have to enable 'show hidden folders' in the app settings after I have added the dot.

Now inside my SD card, i cannot create .XXX folder as it says "You must typre a file name" Error. BUT, inside Music folder - when i copy my music albums i renamed them to .music succesfully.
Now, the albums are neither appearing in my gallery nor on my samsung music player

I am sorry to hear that my suggestion didn't work for you.
Then i would suggest to revert the changes you have done and hide the folders containing albumart in the gallery app itself, like user brunsman6229 suggested.
