If we someday get 3.4 kernel working on our phone than maybe. But for now it looks like we will never get anything higher than 4.1.2.

the 3.4 kernel is already done.. so why cant we ??

It's "done" except for the touchscreen, recovery, charging doesn't work, and probably hundreds of other bugs.

Up until now there wasn't so much of an incentive though, seeing that at best JB would have been a laggy novelty rom that was too heavy to be a daily driver. It's not so much the case now that 4.4 seems to be optimised especially for devices like ours! Maybe devs will be more eager to sink a few weeks more into it!

I'm trying to get GoogleNow home launcher to run on SuperJellyBean (4.1.2), but it won't work, Velvet.apk keeps crashing. Not sure what its missing, but working fine on my MK808 android stick with 4.2.2.

I am no expert or a dev but i think it is highly unlikely that 4.4 grants that much of a performance boost over 4.1+ on the Play

I've done practically nothing except read about KitKat since it was introduced, and I can promise you that performance of this OS will be much higher than any Jelly Bean roms.
The memory footprint required by apps and services has been trimmed by a large amount. Games on the PLAY will no longer run out of ram. There's plenty of documentation on the web right now explaining why this OS would be perfect for devices like the Xperia Play.

Anyway it would be very hard as you would have to make a kernel designed for it which will take some time and you would need to get the touchpads working and edit the build prop

That sounds great.Excuse my ignorance but what exactly is stopping people from creating a ROM based on KitKat for the Play?

Need suggestions for a new rom

Hi everyone,
I am a ROM dev and I wish to create a new ROM for Xperia S. I have so far noticed that AOSP looks are not very popular in this forum, so I want some suggestion from the people of this forum.
Thanking you,

I would die 4 this one
CM10 with the following mods:
Xperia NXT Lockscreen
Xperia media apps (walkman, sound enhanscements, gallery, download music info)
Xperia status bar and launcher
Xperia camera
Btw with the recovery of stock ics kernel o at least a recovery that works ok, not like the other ones that mess up everything with the partitions and cache.
And that's all i can think about right now. :good:
Ive been trying to gather those myself but its almost impossible as i always end up with a bootloop.
Uh um, I would prefer to develop on a stock base. Also, we are any way going to get official JB so no point in theming CM10 to look like stock right?
Thanks a lot anyway
Sent from my LT26i using xda app-developers app
I'm an ion user but if you're going stock based I'd just like something that's fast and smooth. My current stock ics slows down all the time. If you make a fast stock based rom that works on locked bootloader me and a bunch of people would be super happy.

I believe that is not possible - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2171082
As the above link says, pimp my rom **should** work.
How about helping rayman to develop pure cm10.1 rom ?? So the development of the rom will be faster and will be the best rom .... Pure CM is the best rom i think and many people use it to based their rom, because the development is daily and many user reporting bugs ....
And now it's only on v4 going to v5 ..... I think you will be busy to develop that rom

Maybe u can develop rom on stock kernel, with out need to ub, bcoz some people like me dont want lost drm key. And i hope u can make for acro s to bcoz development for acro s very slow, not many choices...

Well i must say i appriciate your work, nexus, for XS, cause people with locked bl are left with no choice between sony and AOSP, i think you will have a bunch of users when v.2 comes out, also when JB comes. Only thing that stoping people to decide for your rom is. FW.55 base instead 45, 50 . Cause they already rooted on those FW and it is much simple to do, cause no need to use flashtool, and not riskig warranty because then can revert on carrier braded Fw in chase of trouble,
Any way i realy hope that you wont give up nexus xperience, i have been searching for it long time
Or try porting Cm , pac,...on LBL especialy for people that cant unlock BL,like me, i would unlock it if i could, and there are many folks in same situation
Poll added
Hi guys,
Thanks for all the suggestions. I have come up with some ideas. Please participate in the newly added poll so that I will know what to build. Also, I will be able to make roms only for Xperia S/SL as I don't have any other devices. Sorry. [ Unless someone manages to port it of course ]

That would be quite difficult and apart from being difficult, apktool has a problem with our phone's framework-res.apk and hence whatever you do, after modifying framework-res.apk, the phone bootloops. There is a work around for that using a binary diff program but it would be extremely difficult and time consuming.
Hy i have been thinking for a while and wanted to suggest you to take look in xperia neo development section, for rom called jjdoctors hybrid i used that rom when i had Neo, and its awsome, support both BL statuses, i think you would have a great response, and many users in XS section

Sony released the kernel(Linux 3.0.8) and system source of firefoxOS for xperia e , so porting should be possible

Porting isn't possible. It's impossible to port kernel from device which has different SoC. We have dual-core when E has single core.

well, the devs have source for xperia s kernel (the 3.0.8 one, from Sony, and/or cm10 kernel from fxp and others), and there is source from firefox os too. and you know, there is ubuntu touch for xperia s in the development thread right? it can be done, so why this (firefox os) is impossible?

The kernel is very similar (90-95%) to the stock sony kernel , but it has firefox os patch and xperia E Soc(msm7227a) drivers .... I'll only include all the xperia s drivers and adapt the rom to xperia s hardware ... It's a dirty way , but I need first to get it booting , and next we can improve and fix it.

Yes.
It will be useless i think, you will loose your time to do it.
We already have too many great roms, what are working really good, and i think (that's my opinion) we do not need firefox os.

FirefoxOs share a lot of part of the HAL from android.
We have to begin from the kernel, after we get it boot, lets start adapt the rom

It would be nice to try it out - it's always nice to have options to choose from. That being said, i doubt Firefox OS will catch on because even Ubuntu Phone OS will have wider audience and a bigger usage base.

I'm new member in this site and i want to know if possible to port other OS to work perfectly on xperia arc s
got bored from android and battary drain :crying:
In theory, it's possible but not feasible. You can run IOS on an Android phone but it won't work perfectly. Likewise if you tried to run Android on an IPhone, it's possible but not perfect. Rather than asking for a port of another OS, find ways to personalize your Android experience and solve the battery drain. If you are still bored or can't be bothered, I suggest you buy an IPhone.

Yes, I said it was possible, but not everything is served to you on a silver platter. You can build from source, but drivers are
still a big problem that stops the ported OS from working perfectly.

4.4? Hardly likely. There'll be a 4.3, I'm sure, but I don't believe there's going to be a 4.4. The Z1 and, possibly, the Z Ultra, being the latest flagships, I feel, would be the only candidates for it.

From 4.2 to 4.3 officially there is no difference except for smoothness, and richer use gpu. As far as 4.4, wise battery usage, full screen mode in apps, richer gpu, better integration of hangout, well memory management. I don think Sony would give up on their phones in just 8 months.

Hi.
This may help people understand why the updates take so long:
www.developer.sonymobile.com/2013/0...-process-and-its-improvements-for-android-4-3
Btw, does the ZL still gets warm easily, like from 23°C to 44° C (73 F / 111 F), while playing games (NFS MW, or other "heavy tasks") on 4.2.2? (Mine is running 4.1.2)
It's quite annoying :/ I've heard the Media Server battery leak has been corrected, at least. Heard nothing about the warming problem.
I'm quite sure 4.4 will be available for the Z series. Isn't it supposed to be optimized to support even 512MB RAM devices?

Is there any? I'm about to update from 4.1.2 and I'm wondering if this warming issue is still there :/

4.4 will be here for the ZL as Sony wants to get its goal to be the third biggest smartphone maker, if it wants it,
it needs to support its devices.
But, can we just have a bug-free Jelly Bean mean while? Dang. Any custom 4.2.2 ROM?

4.2.2 stock rom is not bad except that heating issue. Update is really improved performance. and for 4.3 you can try cm Rom for which you have to unlock bootloader. So I have not tried any. Thanks! I'll update to 4.2.2 in some hours... It's 4:15 AM here in Peru n.n How bad the heating issue is still present.

Yeah, some more days and well have news about 4.3 and 4.4. I hope Sony gives us dates for the oficial 4.3 updates and
positive news for us about 4.4. I've never been the updates fan, my Xperia Pro never got to ICS... It's running so nicely with GB til now.
But 4.4 does have several interesting improvements. Maybe I can update it to 4.4!
Does anyone know what does it take for a device to be suitable for 4.4 update?
As there has been words about 4.4 for older devices.
Maybe it's too son to ask n.n

What heat issue? 44c is pretty normal...
You're running a game on 1920x1080 without any active cooling in a closed device.
Heck the next gen consoles can't even run 1920x1080 on their platform.

It's an issue because not ALL (not even many) other smartphones like this one (full HD, no active cooling) have this heating problem.
Does the Galaxy S4 heats like this? Does the Xperia Z1, maybe?
I know the processor and GPU are working and are making use of energy thus some heat is normal,
but that the device goes from iddle 23° C to 37 and 44° C after not 20 minutes of playing is definitely an issue.
It even gets warm when browsing (Dolphin). This is annoying. Other than that, the device is excelent.
My Razr i only rarely used to get this hot! Actually, I can remember only 2 times when it got to 44° C
and I think it was because of a bug caused by Fuit Ninja, cause in 5 months of playing and using it dialy it never got hot
like the ZL on 4.1.2 and the latest 2.67 build. (As said coolrevi).
I used to use the Razr i proportionally the same as I use the ZL. So, no, it definitely something to look into. I hope official 4.3
and later 4.4 have this problem solved. Or, I don't know, maybe I have a defective unit!
coolrevi said:
With all due respect I didn't have that problem in 244 that's the reason why I mentioned about it.

Hey! So the build right before 244 didn't have this heating issue?
I think I can flash that one? Do you remeber which number was?
Thanks!

It's an issue because not ALL (not even many) other smartphones like this one (full HD, no active cooling) have this heating problem.

I would just suggest you to flash the latest one. .67 coz many people have told that it has solved many bugs including heating issue (except me)

Thanks for your reply!
Although I'm more a fan of stock/official ROMs, I'm about to flash this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2228436
[ROM][ZL][JB 4.2.2][PA3.60][AOKP-MR1][CM10.1]P.A.C True All in 1 ROM
You must know it. It combines cm10.1, AOKP and AOSPA.
I'm going to try it as I read it's stable and good enough!

the camera button and ir remote control work ?... and also does this rom support apps to sd ?.. i really like pacman rom
used to have it on my old hd2 so i wanted to flash it on my xperia zl... since the stock rom dosnt let me transfer
apps to sd and my internal memory is full and my phone is kinda unresponsive and that is the main reason i want to flash
a custom rom and my first choice is pacman.. so if any one could answer these questiosn it would be a real big help... thanx in advance
Reply: Been using this as my daily driver since the day I bought my phone. Works exactly as you would expect.
IR doesn't work on any custom rom so far and you'd have to use something like titanium backup to move apps to SD.
The camera button works just fine. All in all flash with confidence.

It looks interesting too. Had you seen that ROM?
After that if I don't like it I'm going to get the latest official ROM n.n
Thanks for your help! I hope it doesn't turn out we have defective units! Ha
4.4 version will be interesting too, as I'm quite sure Sony will release it for us ZL users.
- L.
Ofcourse Sony will release it for all Z series.
And 1 more think if.sony could possibly integrate is ability to move the app to SD.??

Have you tried DIRECTORY BIND in your ZL?
I don't have an SD card in the moment so I can't test, anyone
knows if Directory Bind works for the ZL in 4.1 or 4.2? Mine is running stock 4.2.
Let's go to the Sony Twitter acc and news room to ask for this feature in 4.3 and 4.4!
- L
Pd: Looks like battery is draining in no more than 10 hours of moderate to constant
usage, no gaming, all staminas on and screen brightness at 15%.
Is this normal for 4.2 in the ZL or should I perform a factory reset
cause I didn't do it when I flashed stock 4.2 on my carrier's 4.1... Sorry for the of topic. I'm on the go!

[Q] Anyone Interested in 2.3.6 Roms?

Hey!

You can check out my work by clicking on my profile.
Is anyone still interested in these ROMs? Maybe I can start working again with some new stuff if for a good response. :good:

I am interested in 2.3.6 ROMs. I have been searching a lot for 2.3.6 ROMs but i didn't found.... If you will develop some ROMs... it will be good
I think many of us would like a firmware that is fast, responsive, fully working, no bugs and good battery life.
I honestly say I don't care what kind of android, windows, linux or any other name this software would be called or what version it would be. I would want it very much and will thank the creator each chance I had.
I wish you luck and if your rom will be like what I described above then I will be one of many people who will use it.
Tour are wrong. Even stock GB is faster than 4.x ROMS. I will be pleased to have GB AOSP.
I don't understand people who love newer versions of Android OS because on Ace 2 they are still slower than stock GB, sorry ;p

Hey, CM10.1 is quite fast and so probably is the new fixed 10.2...
of course they don't have Google Maps with a real offline mode!
I'd really like to see a Gingerbread ROM with 626MB RAM, for sure... too bad I bought an Xperia U 4 hours ago, heh

GB AOSP will be the slowest ROM, because it doesnt support multi core processors.

Depends on how you use yours. CM 10.1 (+ Operation Killjoy scripts) is fast and responsive on my Ace 2.
Though, it would be nice to see a CM 7 build or other CM 7 based Custom ROMs for the Ace 2.
CM7 will be interesting to see.
