Screen OFF after attempting to change bootanimation - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

THIS IS FIXED. NO NEED TO RESPOND. JUST REFLASHED THE ROM.
Hey there.....
I was just goofing around and tried to load a different bootanimation.zip.
The preview in BAM-android looked good so I went ahead.
On reboot, I see the Samsung / Cyanogenmod logo.
..but no boot animation. but the lack of boot animation isn't a really a big deal.
the real problem is that the screen is off when the phone is fully loaded.
I can click on icons and hear that the phone is active, but the screen is off.
Any ideas on how I can fix this?
Thank you very much!

I thought I could re-flash the ROM but it seems as though the screen is blacked out in recovery mode as well.
The screen does show the samsung logo and then goes dark. I am a little helpless without being able to use the screen to troubleshoot anything.
I have some specific questions that are more general for someone who is more knowledgeable with Android than I am:
1- Is there any way to view the screen of my android device on my PC?
2- Can a custom ROM be flashed without using the phone itself to do so (since the screen is not working, even in recovery)?
(something along the lines of using Odin for the stock ROM)
3- What would be a good way to backup the configuration of my phone using my computer without being able to use the screen on the phone?
Any help is appreciated. Even a suggestion that is totally outside of my current line of thinking. Thanks!
just as a side note, I am probably going to flash the Stock ROM using ODIN then flash a custom ROM. I wanted to check with you all to see if I was overlooking a simpler solution or if I should just go ahead with that plan.

[Q] Stuck in Manual Mode

So I got root. Ran Clockwork Mod. Backed up to the SD card. Rebooted.
Now I'm stuck between the Clockwork recovery screen (if I power/camera/volume down) and another apparent recovery screen (regular power on) that says in blue "Android system recovery (2e)" and at the bottom, in yellow, "# Manual Mode #" . . .
I'm not able to get out of these two screens. I've pulled the battery and the card, chosen the "reboot" option, chosen the "restore" option (CWM), etc.
Can anyone help me get my phone working again?
Thanks in advance!
I would odin back to stock if you can get into dl mode
Can you reflash your ROM in the CWM? If not then Odin or Heimdall would be easiest then restore your backup.
Thanks guys. I used Odin - lost all my data (which I was of course trying to avoid), but got my phone back.
So, I've learned 2 valuable things here:
1. I was able to get root (sort of).
2. I was able to recover my phone (but not my data).
Does anyone have an idea as to how I got stuck in that loop in the first place - and, more to the point, how I can get past it so I can actually use my phone after I get root?
Although I'm very busy (work full-time, school full-time), I'm willing to make a reasonable donation to someone who's able to spend a little time to get me off and running.
Use odin to install something thats pre rooted like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1221614
Your situation is kind of unique. But as mentioned above Odining a prerooted ROM will help. Didn't you say you backed up before all this happened? Why did you lose your data? Root and restore.

Thanks, I did get most of my stuff back. I'm still kind of a n00b at this, so it wasn't apparent until I started looking for it. I thought it was gone because my apps were, and I hadn't yet reupped gmail, so my contacts list wasn't apparent. In the end, other than having to remember all the apps I wanted to get back, the only real disappointment was that I lost my place in the game Big Time Gangsta, so I had to start over. I was up to level 53!
In reality, though, the only thing that was super important to me, my contacts, came back. So I'm a pretty happy camper. I was also able to Odin up that rooted Gingerbread and, to top it off, I now have a free tether hooked up and working - my rationale for rooting the phone in the first place.
I do appreciate everyone's help. Sure I'll be back with more questions!
Marco
Glad we could help
Not yet rooted - stuck in manual mode
I was in the beginning stages of rooting, couldn't get anything to happen when I was in Downloading mode. I then booted with Vol Down-Camera-Power, and I can't get OUT of it. I have no OK button, and the Camera button isn't working to reboot/select. Please help!!!

[Q] Screen Blacks Out - Should I send in to get fixed?

Just yesterday, my phone was working fine and then all of a sudden, my phone's screen turns completely black. I have the T-Mobile version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 with Stock Rom and the factory kernel. I did root my phone and tried to reset the phone by trying to boot up the recovery. It doesn't give me the screen. There is also no Samsung Logo when I boot the phone but a screen with green dots all over. Then, it is on and I can guess my password and such so the touch screen is functional. The LED lights up and the soft keys light up as well. The sound works perfectly fine. So I assume something happened to the LCD screen? There are no cracks or what not.
Since it is rooted, I cannot just send my phone in for repair as the warranty is voided and I cannot uninstall anything or unroot my phone because I cannot see where all my icons are and what not. Any suggestions on what I can do or try? I got it not too long ago too which is a bit disheartening.
Dame thing happened to my gs3, I did reset it back to stock through odin and sent it in. They told me after I sent it in that it had damage to it that was my dually like dropping it or something. No that wasnt the case, the screen just slowly fizzled out. Pain in the ass

I actually don't know how to do a reset via odin. I flashed it and followed instructions/research but since I can't see what is on the screen nor boot it up to download mode or anything... I don't know exactly what to do. Well I think I can boot it up to download mode again. I don't think it will be a problem. I just can't do triangle away after that though after that.
In addition, I would still have root tools installed so wouldn't that give it away that it was rooted? Thus, gahhh this is annoying =( Sorry for ranting... Just very frustrated (like many phone users on here I'm sure).
Edit
I have it on stock rom though... I just need to unroot it... though I cannot see my screen to do anything about it =/

If you have USB Debugging enabled you can used adb to remove root, I believe.
Odin back to stock should do it. Especially, with a busted screen.

However, my issue isn't a broken screen. The screen itself appears to be fine and same with the digitizer. I don't see how flashing the stock rom will help. In addition, I don't think I can find my way around especially when the screen is all black. I may be able to because I have clockworkmod recovery on there. Just can't see any of the menus or anything.
flashing back to odin uses the phones download mode you dont need a custom recovery you just download the right files and put them in PDA in odin and flash them to your phone while its in download mode

Well the next issue is, it refuses to go into recovery mode or download mode. All I get when I try the button combination is a screen filled with tiny green dots.
do what he does in the video even though your phone doesnt show anything on the screen it probably still works so you can try this

Issues with custom kernel/rom on SM-T310

So,
I rooted my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 and then installed a custom ROM and Kernel that Arshull had on here. Well it has been causing issues, if I leave my tab sitting around the tablet will turn itself off. I have to restart the tablet by holding the power button and sometimes that doesn't even work, the back and options buttons will light up but the screen will stay dark, in which case I will hold power and home together to make the tablet come on. I have the newest Kernel installed as well as the ROM. At this point it's more annoying to have them than helpful. There doesn't seem to be much development on the ROMs and Kernels for this particular tablet, which is disappointing. I am going to try the custom stuff on my S3 and see if I have better luck with that. Either way, if someone can help me get back to the stock Rom and kernel, that would be great.

Go to http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ and search for T310. Find the one firmware for your region and download it. Install it using Odin. That will give your stock everything.

Thank you sir, you are the best.
This is less than ideal...
I seem to have bunged my T310 similar to the OP: I rooted my tab and flashed TWRP, flashed the kernel in question, then froze some of the bloatware using Titanium. For a stretch it was working fine, then I noticed wifi wasn't working—I attributed this to an install of Adblock Plus I assumed I hadn't set up completely—then I discovered I was getting only a blank screen on waking the device (I've got Samsung's magnetic cover on it), and that the battery was draining to the point of the tab turning itself off once a day, even from a full charge. I flashed the stock firmware named above, but continue to have issues.
I'm now back to stock recovery, and can access that and download mode like normal (in download mode, my status up top reads Product Name: SM-T310_NA; Current Binary is Samsung Official; and System Status is still Custom). On my first boot after re-flashing, I can hear the startup tone but can only see a blank screen (the startup tone sometimes stutters), but then I can only boot up to a blank screen or a boot loop.
There are a couple of points where the goof could have occurred, so I'm not sure where to go next. Any advice would be much appreciated; please let me know if I've neglected any information that might round out the picture.
Also, perhaps this thread belongs under Q&A, Help and Troubleshooting?
any update to screen turning off issue ?
Did you managed to fix it?
what kernel you installed?
I am having simila issues myself but think its coused the overclocking app
...let us know

I think I bricked my tablet

My tablet is the WiFi only version. I had it unlocked and rooted previously.
So I downloaded the new 5.1.1 images, intending to finally switch to Lollipop, and I kept getting the "missing system.img" error when trying use the batch scripts.
So I found this guide:
http://www.talkandroid.com/guides/b...-lollipop-factory-image-on-your-nexus-device/
And tried to follow it to the letter.
Sadly, once I flashed the boot.img, the device wouldn't boot anymore and it won't show up in fastboot and adb.
I also can't seem to boot it into recovery mode. My volume down button is finicky so perhaps I'm not trying hard enough?
Is there anything that can be done?
Edit: Okay, I was being an easily-panicky moron. Stupid key. Must have tried it like 10+ times till it acknowledged my press.
All is fine... I think. Once it finishes optimizing a crap-load of apps.
So, after optimizing everything works fine?
Indeed it does. Marvellously.
Rooted, enjoying the latest of Android and even helped pinpoint the source of a long-standing problem I had with brightness.
It may even help battery life.
Same Problem still exists for me
I have the wifi only version and I seem to be at a loss now.
I cannot get into recovery no matter how many times I try
PC recognises device but as APX
Screen appears to be stuck on an image of Andy stood upright with a sort of hexagonal wire frame rotating in his belly with "erasing" underneath. Stays this way for hours/days and does not change. Have looked through all sorts of forums for help or do you guys think I should just give up??
ANY Help at all would be greatly appreciated
It seems that your device is toast Maybe your NAND storage is faulty and you will need to purchase a new mainboard

Sm-T800 stuck at Samsung logo start screen

I'll preface this by saying I have searched the forums here and after reading a few threads about similar problems to mine, I haven't been able to find a solution. So, I'm making a new thread in the hopes you fine individuals will be able to help me troubleshoot what's going on.
The problem:
I was running CM 12 on my T800 for a while, but after some bugs and random reboot issues, I decided to give the new IronRom a shot. I went ahead and flashed it through TWRP and everything went swimmingly. I was able to set up the tablet and use it for a while. However, two days ago when my wife was using the tablet, it randomly restarted while she was using it and then froze at the Samsung startup screen. It would show the screen, then blink to black like the tablet had restarted, show the screen and repeat this about 4 or 5 times before freezing at the Samsung start screen.
What I have tried doing:
First thing I tried was home+power+volume up to get into TWRP and do a wipe and start over. But I cannot get into recovery. Once the tablet is frozen the only way to get it to restart is with a hard reset power+volume down, nothing done after that seems to make any difference.
Second, I realized I could still get into download mode, so using ODIN I tried going back to stock. Flashed the stock rom for my region but when Odin is done with the initial flash, it reboots the tablet and everything is the same. Frozen at the Samsung screen.
I've tried flash TWRP again, but once the tablet reboots after download mode, it just freezes at the Samsung screen.
Any suggestions at this point would be welcome.
last time i had this same trouble but on my T705. I had to wipe everything including the internal storage. only then the device boot properly.

I would love to be able to, but as I said in the original post, I can't get the tablet to enter recovery, so I can't wipe it. The only thing I can get it to do is boot into download mode.
Hi, sorry to be that guy who bumps threads, but I'm still sitting here with a tablet I can't use and no more ideas on what I can do to fix it. I'd really appreciate any ideas at this point. Thanks again!

I had similar experience, and even started downloading official samsung image, with odin etc. However it looks like I was able to enter recovery if rebooting using the following sequence:
- power-vol_down-home combination until the screen goes black
- moving finger from volume-down to volume-up
-> waiting a few seconds (less than 10) until recovery screen shows up.
Then I just reinstalled the good old cm 12.1 (instead of the failing lineageos 14.1), and then all happy again.

Thanks for the link. I tried it but never could get the tablet turned off to see the battery icon. When I used the method in the link it just returned to the Samsung Galaxy Tab S startup screen
