I'm a total noob to the Android ROM scene and tried to update from JB 4.1.2 (stock Samsung ROM) to JB 4.3.1 (ParanoidAndroid 3.99-RC2). I thought everything was fine until I rebooted after install and got stuck in a boot loop. Had to take the battery out to boot into recovery.
Here's what I did, exactly, if it helps at all:
Rooted with CWM recovery.
Full wipe.
Installed PA 3.99 ROM & GApps, in that order.
Cleared cache and dalvik-cache, rebooted.
I'd appreciate any help.
Bootloop
I hate it when that happens
Did you try restoring from an Nandroid Backup?
or try another ROM...just flashed JMT8 and it went perfect
could also be corrupted Data as it seems JB 4.1.2 has issues, Format instead of Wipe but you lose all ur Data
Good Luck :good:

Ive been working on getting cm10 on my t999 gs3 but cannot figure out how to get cwm touch on the phone. I already have cwm 5.5 but it gives me an error when applying update from sd (trying to install cm10 nightly latest build).
The newest cwm is a .img file in which I have not a clue how to install. I was getting used to flashing tar files with odin.

Download rom manager from store and install recovery from there. Much easier and less likely to cause problems with a typo.

Hi everyone..
I've just received my upgrade and could'd wait to try out some roms. Rooting is pretty straightforward, but after many attempts I just cant get cwm to work properly..When booting with "volume up, home and power button the screen starts flickering and gets corrupted. After that I just get a black screen!
Thanks, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

MIUI recommend Cwm, twrp does not flash MIUI very well
Edit: the above post recommends Philz touch, as that is based on Cwm then it should install miui just fine.

Hi,
I was in balli's thread where i realized some people had problems returning back to 4.1.2 . What i did was
1)factory reset, wipe cache and dalvik cache
2)Using odin I flashed back a 4.1.2 stock rom
3)factory reset, wipe cache and dalvik cache
Dont know if all the steps are necessary , buts this is what I did.
PS: I didn't post in Balli's thread as I'm a new user and it seems i cant.

Nope you will have to flash 4.1.2 stock rom (preferably the one you had before flashing 4.2.2 as i did it for mine, it should work on most 4.1.2 )
But yes you have to flash 4.1.2 via odin. cwm backup restore wont work if youre in 4.2.2 go back to 4.1.2 flash recovery then use restore backup.

If you are talking about the 4.2.2 rom and it doesn't flash even if you haven't extracted make sure you flash official 4.2.2 leaked rom via odin, then install recovery and then flash balli's rom usin cwm.

Hey
I am trying to update my samsung galaxy s2x telus to jelly bean 4.1.2 through kies.
I get this weird message
Your device's current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via Kies
Current firmware version: PDA:LE4 / PHONE:MC4 / CSC:LE4 (TLS)
Previously, I already updated to Jelly bean 4.1.2 through kies, due to some issues i restored my backup(version 4.0.3)
Is there any workaround for this issue.
Thanks in advance.

You can't update through kies with a custom recovery, you'll need to Odin to a stock telus ROM first, then update through kies.

You gotta read back through the rom threads. Boot loops are very common, lots written in the threads about them....and fixes too.

The first thing you should do is upgrade to the latest recovery version, CWM or TWRP, it could be a wipe problem.

Well, if you have the right TWRP, and are wiping /system, /data, /cache, /dalvic, I'd say bad dl , or your SD might be messed up.
That's the only reasons I can think of.

See if you can flash a stock ROM. Also, reinstall recovery. DL the one from Shelnutt2 on the codefire server. There's also a link for it in the root guide.
After reinstalling recovery, and if it'll install a stock ROM, try a 4.4 rom again. If it still fails, I'd say try wiping your SD.
Other than that, I'm at a loss.
