Hi my s4 motherboard is broken so I changed it.
When i dial *#06# it give me the original IMEI which came with the phone.
But when i go to phone setting ->status it give me the new IMEI which is built on the new motherboard.
I am confused. How could this happen??
does IMEI stored on motherboard or somewhere else.
And which one is the real IMEI that on the phone?
The imei does change with each motherboard.
I would go with the settings option. The service code is something specific to each carrier, so it's probably a hard coded string.

By random I saw today on my router (DAP-1350 D-link) that on the DEVICE INFORMATION page under STATUS, I have something like this showing up:
IP:192.168.0.101 Android_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 00:00:00:00:00:00.
xxxxxxxx.... being the phone IMEI and 00:00... MAC address.
I use the ROM in my sig and that IMEI part is some weird stuff!!
Anyone experienced similar or what can be the part of the ROM doing this?
I can only guess, but I believe that your device might simply be named Android_[IMEI]. (-->Hostname)
I have no idea how to change it though, you would probably have to look into the WiFi API or some shell commands (You could try "busybox hostname" if you have root).
Btw:
This person here seems to have the same problem http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11866842
Are u sure that is your IMEI? Because I have a D-Link and I just checked it. It also shows Android_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, but its alpha-numeric and not an IMEI number.

Ah good point, I just checked: The number he is seeing should be a random hexadecimal string.

It is THE IMEI, otherwise this would be a waste of time.
I'll try the busybox thinggy and thx for suggestions.
Forgive my ignorance, but I don't see why you would consider this a security/privacy problem. Doesn't the MAC identify your particual phone as much as the IMEI? Both are just as easily traced back to your unit.
After rooting my phone with the toolkit, SMS seems to be broken. Ive tried updating the SMSC but that is not working and I get a refresh error and update error after typing in the new SMSC
Im using this code from the CM thread:
Sprint: +17044100000 = 07917140140000F0
Is there anyone who can help as I can't seem to get my head around this
Thanks in advance
you need to put your sim in another phone that allows you to change MSC (gnex does not), trying to set SMSC from 4636 menu just make it even more broken...

How much from that code did you enter?
The numbers after the = sign is what you should put in.
Check http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/SMSC_Updates for reference.

the nexus does have a sim card, but it is not removeable.
i would try returning the phone to complete stock
Maybe the number is incorrect and there is a different one for LTE service center?

if it doesnt have a removable sim card i really don't know what to do... in my gsm gnex there is no way i can fix a bad SMC without put the sim in another phone!

called sprint to get the correct number, they said there was a small service outage causing my phone to not send sms messages. seemed weird to me since 3g and phone calls were working fine. anyway problem seems to be fixed as of this morning so i guess consider this one closed. thanks for the help
Hi, I have a ATT Note 2 and I keep getting the error "Phone Not Allowed MM#6" every time I turn it on. I can press the OK button and get to the home screen and use the phone normally except that it cannot send or receive texts or calls (emergency only). I am on the Solavei network and has been working fine for a few months, but the other day it just stopped one morning after I woke up.
I bought it from a store and he has assured me it wasn't stolen or anything like that. And the Solavei customer service could not get it working after several resets and whatnot. They sent me a new sim card which I have not received yet, but I am not very hopeful about that working... My WiFi works and I actually get signal bars but again, no 4G, no calls, no texts...
Is there anything I can do in the settings or anything? My phone does not have any custom roms or anything like that, just the regular ATT/Samsung Android 4.1.2. The only thing I changed on it was the option to enable the T-Mobile bands (Youtube: How to Enable T-Mobile 3G/4G AWS Bands on AT&T Galaxy Note 2 SGH-i317!). But I also tried without those bands and that didn't work either...
Please help, thanks in advance!
Try a complete factory reset with Odin. But that error sounds to me like someone reported the IMEI as stolen

Go into your local store with the original recipt. They should be able to either tell you who reported it or give you a refund

there can be two reasons.. one is when you tried to change the bands on your phone there are more possibilities your IMEI on the phone would have corrupted and that is reason you might be getting that message, and second reason can be some one reported the phone stolen and it is blocked from the service provider end..
to validate that check your phone IMEI by dialing *#06# if that shows your valid IMEI then your phone must have got blocked by the service provider or incase if the IMEI shows some thing like null or 00/0 then the phone IMEI is corrupted, I can help your fixing your phone IMEI if it corrupted.. let me know if you still having this problem
Thanks everyone. I called up ATT and they confirmed that the phone was reported stolen. So I took it back to the store I got it from and he said that sometimes this happens so the company can get the insurance... Regardless, he reset and rooted my phone and it works again. My IMEI number shows up as well. Now the only thing is that I am not able to get all of the T-mobile bands back. Does anyone know about this?

Hi, I bought on July a LG G3 on french craig's list, with buy proof, warranty, the box... Everything was fine until yesterday, I've got a message which says "illegal_me" and after that I can't sms or call either. But the LTE works fine. I think that the old owner may have say that his phone is stolen...
Do you know any solutions? can I root or something, to re-use the phone normally, or it is impossible? Thank you!
Sorry for my english btw.

"illegal_me" or "illegal IMEI"??
without correct IMEI, phone modem cannot connect to mobile network.

Illegal_me!
But maybe the problem is linked to the IMEI, cause the phone is certainly declared stolen..
Looks like somebody sold you a stolen phone and the actual owner got it locked down.
Fortunately(for the community) and unfortunately(for you), as far as I know the IMEI related information is present on the EFS and reverse engineering that is not possible. Even if it was, fabricating an IMEI number is not legal and pretty much not possible.

Ok you mean the phone cannot be repaired? When I type *#06#, the IMEI is the same that the one on the box.

Oh ok, but any IMEI i trywill work? I thought there was a repertory with IMEI, so you cannot use anyone else.
U think this will work for the G3 too? Because the link you posted show a firmware for optimus black!
Edit: unfortunately, it seems to be only for optimus black... :/ the hidden menu cmd don't work

Search in your G3 hidden menu and you will find AP and CP USB. From there folow that tutorial:
Type AT (If not accepted, or do not see the characters switch ports)
Type at% imei (should show current phone IMEI)
Type at% imei = x, x, x, x, x ..., (In each X would have to put the number that corresponded to your new IMEI)

This happened to me on 23/03/2015 on my LG G3 registered on the EE network, after many conversations between the LG helpdesk and talking to EE customer support it seems my IMEI had been blocked.
I think the message ILLEGAL_ME displayed on a black background means Illegal Mobile Equipment, initially I thought it was some kind of spoof or joke but my handset was now unable to make or receive calls.
Fortunately the good people at EE customer support removed the blacklisting against my IMEI but could not explain how or who had caused it to become blacklisted. I had downloaded upgrades to several apps that morning mostly linked to Google but that may have been coincidental.

Hey Guys,
I had my phone sent back for repairs and when I got it back, I had an IMEI number of 0, when you enter the dialer and press *#06#.
This would have definitely not been the case before I had sent it off.
Any ideas why this would be?
Has the repairer done dodgy stuff?
Thanks
Kevin A.
Lookat Settings
A phone without IMEI will be hard to work on most carriers. If the phone works then it is something else.
Double check using the normal mode. Settings-> About phone -> Status -> IMEI information. If the information is there then the number using the dial code is not well flashed.
