So what happened today, I was just managing some files on my HTC One in Windows. Deleting a few files and then all of a sudden the progress bar stops responding when I went to delete a folder. Not sure if the folder matters or not but either way, I clicked 'cancel' since the progress bar wasn't moving and I figured I would just delete the files in there later.
Unplugged phone and all of a sudden, there were 0 files on my internal memory. I tried to reboot and still nothing, no files showed up on my internal memory and the storage shows the same with most space being free.
I'm not really sure why that happened but I guess just a warning for anyone else out there to learn from my mistakes.
This has happened to me before on a different computer with a different phone (Galaxy Nexus). Both have no sd-card and use the MTP protocol for connecting to Windows. I think there might be a bug in the way that Android handles that with files but I can't prove it.
Any tips on data recovery?
I don't think there's anything you can do. Sorry bud.

Will do, once I am able to get the data off. So far I was able to get the memory block off and I can 'see' the deleted files but I can't quite recover them just yet. I am going to try a good recovery software.
I've tried a couple of things but so far it doesn't look too good for most of my files.
Try this out. I have not tested but I seen this thread when I was on GNEX http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994705

That's what I was following. I was able to get the raw mmc block off the phone and I started the process some 20 minutes or so after the incident. So there shouldn't be much over written. However, following those steps and using the same application, I can't seem to get any of my wanted files.
My next step is try something like extundelete.
Sorry to hear

Looks like I was unable to get any of my data back.
I just don't seem to understand exactly what went wrong so it's very difficult fix/reverse. I tired multiple different tools and different ways but never got proper files back.

Same thing (maybe) happened to me, posted awhile back, closer to this things release. A factory data reset is what brought it back. I still struggle to understand how this phone mounts storage, but the reset cleared it up. It has not happened again, but I quit fooling around in /shell/emulated/0 and switched to TWRP to manage backups.

I'll give that a try tomorrow and try to keep usage to a minimum today but I fear it may be too late already since I record ~3-4GB worth of video yesterday after I gave up. I had no other but to record.
Yea, it seems it didn't work at all. Oh well, at least I know for the future if it ever happens again what to try.

Well, I pulled a boneheaded stunt. I accidentally formatted my internal storage instead of the SD card in my phone.... SIGH.... The bad part is, I had a couple of pics I hadn't moved up to the cloud yet, and they're irreplaceable. (One was of my wife and her 4 cousins after her grandfather's funeral) I'm hoping someone has an idea... I've tried Recuva and Pro Discover Basic to try to recover, with no luck.
Any other ideas?
None that I know of, sorry bud. You should start backing up you're pics and important files. I hope someone else can find something but from what I know people have never been able to recover after a format

Yes, I usually do. Thanks for the sage advice. I never would have thought to back up important files and pics.

Look at the get more storage from drop box thread and u can have it upload photos automatically so you never loose them. I have 7 GB on there now

Try unformat software using your PC. You must stop using your phone immediately though. As when you use the phone new stuffs are being written on the internal card and less chance of you recovering old data from it.
I've had some success with Recuva before.
Here's the problem . My friend has an Stock Epic 4g and it eventually bit the dust. She can still access the download screen via 1+power buttons but other than that her phone won't turn on. Now, thats not the problem. I can fix that. The problem is that she had very important text messages in her phone and we're trying to see if there's a way to retrieve them before I "unbrick" her phone. has anyone found a way to pull info off the phone before undergoing restoration and deleting everything? I apologize in advance if the answer is already on here somewhere. I searched and came up with nothing in our forums except for the text message history viewer on sprints website that is no longer there and besidesm even if it was, these texts are from around christmas. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
I think you're pretty much stuck. I had the same problem once and never managed to get it working. If you can somehow make a backup of the messed up system that would be great. If the phone is stock, I don't think there's a way to do that.

no, there's not. I thought of that too. I was wondering if maybe i plug the phone into my computer maybe there's something that can take everything from the phone and copy it to my computer? or even just view the system folders in hopes that I can get the text messages that way but i dunno if that's even possible.
No. She's screwed. Tell her to back up next time.

OUCH! When I give people bad news I at least hand them a bottle of petroleum jelly first! Yes this is an attempt to make a very dry (or is that wet) joke! Sorry had to.
On topic I don't know if you can mount the system w/adb once it is in that state and k0nane would know more and if he is saying no I doubt it.
I am by no means an expert but... could you odin in the recovery, get into CWM, make a backup, extract the data image, pull the messaging data and then restore after getting the phone functional?

Wouldn't that just reflash the recovery partition? OP: Try this if you haven't just reOdin'ed yet. It wouldn't damage the messages any more than they already are.

That is what I was going for, just overwriting the recovery partition like you would for rooting GB. You could even try to bring it back to life by flashing a kernel and see if it would boot. Neither of those operations should delete data.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I agree with the above. Don't odin it, try reflashing the recovery partition, nandroid everything to sd, THEN unbrick, restore data.

Try the nandroid restore and see if that works. U should be able to get into cwm

Make sure you tell her that her boyfriend still loves her even though the text no longer exists.
Download google voice from the market and you should see your texts there. For whatever reason, all my texts have been saved even though I've wiped my phone many times for different ROMs.

I suppose I'll keep voice integration as a habit for my device. its a good way to keep those important texts. Just need to be sure the lady doesn't go through the phone and stumble upon old "secret" ones.

This one!
I have literally tried updating profile more then ten times....
I've also...
Did a Hard Reset as described in the link above, Did a hands free activation (which like the person's complaint in the link above, it showed I had it during but then it resets and it is gone again), I've tried the ##786# reset, I've flashed stock non root, then I went back to root after trying it all over again!
Very frustrated at this point, I cannot figure out how it happened either because it is my Fiance's phone and she claims that she didn't do anything different it just happened.
I was on the Dirty Unicorn ROM before hand, I know that I did have some tweaks active, and I am worried that is why the configuration is sticking and not able to just clean wipe it out...
But if anyone else has come across this and has been able to fix it using a different method other then all the ones tried and stated in this message and the ones in the sprint forum link above... Both my Fiance and I would be greatly in your debt! This is the first time in the past two years and 3 phones that I've been teaching myself this stuff that I've encountered a problem I wasnt able to go through forumns and google and fix it, and that is what is more frustrating then anything.
Assuming this isn't a phone flashed to another carrier you could try flashing a stock rom, and then stop by a sprint store. They should be able to get it back on line there.
Is anybody else getting this error when starting Locations?
I'm on Coredroid 3.5 with Faux 003b10
No sorry can't reproduce that here. Have you tried reflashing Rom (without wipe) in aroma and see if it continues to give that message?

it says your storage is full. Clean out your internal sd card & try again.
Nup...it's not the memory space for sure cos i still have a couple of GB free space. I've had this before on different ROM. Really can't catch what causes it. It works for a couple of days and then i get this msg for a couple of days and give it time, it will start working again....
I guess i'll try re-flashing and see if that helps. Have not tried that.
Thanks for the reply guys.

Absolutely not the problem of memory/storage. Brand new phone; has more than 1.63 GB internal and 18GB external space available. Mine happens every single time I try to start "My Locations"

if this could help, I found that the battery was out at 11 AM though I left it at like 73% at 2 AM and when I plugged it in the charger and turned it off the locations app had this issue
Potential solution...
Hi All,
I had the same thing. Got on to HTC who told me to do a factory reset almost as soon as they answered the phone (they really were completely useless).
However, I powered down the phone, powered it up again, and it worked. I'm assuming that you've all tried that!!
Here's hoping it works for you too.
Cheers.
Ok so first off, been using XDA for a while now to root various things, you guys have always got me what I need to get things figured out on my own, I have never before this day had to request help and for that, you guys are legendary.
Now I am semi newbi here, I know whats what for the most part but I have a hard time holding information in my short term memory so I am sorry if I miss little things
On to the problem!
So I got an AT&T LG Nitro HD P930, on ebay, I then spent the better part of a day rooting it, took me a lot of work but I eventually got it rooted and all that jazz, everything was going great... but everything changed when the fire nation... wait no... when I put CM9 on it, that crashed quite often, so I put on CM11 to check that out, no Data, so I rolled back one to CM10.2, and still no Data.
Could I have missed something?
Edit:
I thought at one point the ImeI might have gotten pushed out, but I double checked that and it is there, I have noticed at times I look at the service and it says I have 4 bars and an E next to it like back in the 2G days, but rarely and I have not had it stay long enough to test the data but if I get the chance I will edit and leave what happened here.
Also to note, I do still get random crashes but I can live with that.
P.S.S. XDA Devs are the shiznit, thank you guys for many years of amazing rom's and HP Touchpad support, my tablet is nothing without you guys!
Potential fix
Ok so admitadly I may have jumped the gun on not finding anything via the search function, I did find something digging around that might help me out. just incase anyone else checks this thread due to the same issue I will post back here if it worked, I found the fix on this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2521525
Posted by Kaos420 about half way down.
Now to test it!
Issues "Unbricking"
So my second go around seems to be having trouble taking off, I cant seem to get the V10F to flash to my device following http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1597488 exactly as it is. always just reboots into my old OS. Any advice?
Edit: Noticed I forgot to rename V10F correctly and tried again, seems to be running smoother, feel like a total noob...

I had read something about that and had a backup of my APN but it turns out you cant flash APN data after 4.0+ or some such nonsense.
In the end I managed to get the root to take hold after restoring it from unbrick up, now I have CM9 on it and it is working just shiny. so this thread can be deleted or closed or whatnot.
If anyone would like a step by step on what I did I would be glad to post it but I doubt anyone is interested.
Good thing you got it working. And CM9 was so nice and stable for the Nitro. I often think of reverting back to it just for its reliability.

Its been a while since I did it but I will see if I cant gather all the resources I used, but in the end what I had to do was re-brick it, reverted back to stock everything to recover and re-rooted it all again, then I just skipped CM11 and went back to CM10. Now I am in a whole new **** storm haha but thats a story for another time.
