Apps to SD card? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I was looking for something that can allow me to manually move spacific apps to SD card.
Is there something that will allow me to do that?
I know there's the appext2sd but that makes the phone think that the SD card is the internal memory.

I am not hostile. I am just trying to understand why the internal SD card is all used up. When you set up the games, typically they have setting that will move the game data files to external SD.
On another note, despite the games, what else do you have on internal sd that's sizeable ?

im looking for the same thing, i have a 64gb card but the rom i am using it wont work with it (using wicked rom on tmo s3).
the card is exfat format and the apps2sd doesnt work...
i have like thousands of mp3s, games/aps and gps stuff etc thats taking up everything...
i was told that if i was to format the exfat to fat it will work just fine and the rom will read it like a normal sd card and we can use the apps2sd app and itll read the 64gb card as normal storage and we can keep the phones memory basically free?
some say yes and others no just want a definitive answer to this because i love the wicked rom and with a 64gb card..
so far i have been using a mod here that is called 11extsd2internalsd, which makes the sd card primary storage and the phones memory secondary.. would be nice not to have to use that and use the card as normal
thanks

Do a favor. Take the Sd Card to a PC and format under Windoz for Fat32. No Quick Format there.

Are you using a custom kernel? Wicked is stock based so it should be able to read exFat. If you are using a custom kernel, that may be why it doesn't work, it may not have the correct modules. (Especially if the kernel is md5 based. Wicked is LJC I'm pretty sure).
Either way though, if you reformat the card to Fat32, it will be more compatible across non touchwiz roms, and would probably be so for you now as well. But I'd use a stock kernel personally. Never had any real issues with them, and you'd probably get to use the card as it was intended.

Best way to format SD card

Hi I'm pretty sure this won't be an extremely popular topic but just wondering how people go about formatting there sd cards do u just wipe everything save ur backups? Ur photos music? Anything and also is there anything important I shouldn't delete?? Just curious to see how everyone else does it thanx for being nice

Well, you can use your phone to format it by going into settings and storage. You should back up anything you dont want to lose to your pc. I find that the most effective way is to connect the sd card to the pc either in your phone via usb or via a card reader. Then go to my computer, right click on it and hit format. It thould already be in the right file format(fat32) if im not mistaken. Then just place your pics and whatever else back on there and the android system will do the rest. Hope i helped!

If you are working with a removable SD card I'd recommend HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool - v2.1.8. (free)
I had an 8 Gb card sitting around for a while and I wanted to use in my daughter's new phone. I put the card in the PC and deleted everything. Then I thought just format the damn thing. It seemed to only think it had 40 Mb. Windows would not format it to anything over 40 Mb. I had to download the HP tool and it would allow formatting to the full 8 Gb.
Hi,
Not sure if this is the right place.. I just installed coredroid 1.2 and my sd card is not detected. Removed the sd card. Complete format then reinsert still doesnt solve the problem. I am able to use the card using a card reader. Any suggestions

It sounds like you are formatting an existing (previously used) card? Do you have some issue with the card? Or just switching between devices? Can't see it making much difference using the built-in Windows disk management tool to format, using the phone to do it, or some other method.
I think even switching between devices, I haven't bothered to re-format, just deleted the files manually and swapped the card into the new phone.
For new cards, I don't even bother to format. They are always pre-formatted to FAT32, AFAIK. So I just insert it in the device and go . . .

how do you move apps to external sd card ? before there used to be option to move to sd card now i don't see that .. i had this problem ever since i upgrade to cm10 and now on aokp....
I use SDformatter.
It's better than just with right click and select format.

if you have just one partition formated with fat32 on your sd-card, you can format it with windows-tools. if there is another partition (ext2/3/4) on your card, its not possible to format the sd-card completely with this tools and you need, as written above, an external tool like that from HP.
Beside this, i don't really understand why you want to do this, except you have a problem with your card...
i wiped my sd card with h.d.d low level format ! now i cant create right ext partition now . how can i do that ? i did everything with partition magic software . but not use .
If you have a Linux box and an SD card read use gparted. If you don't the best/fastest way is with a good recovery in an android phone

[Q] Internal-External Memory Swap: useful or not?

Hi
I have a Samsung Galaxy W, and you know that this device has such a little memory for apps and games.
I bought a 16 gb class 10 external sd and I was wonder if the memory swap mod could be a really useful operation.
I'm not usual to install lots of applications and games, (I really use only social apps) however sometimes I like to play some heavy-data games. So I need a help: do you suggest me to keep the sd as a default external memory, maybe trying to move the heavier apps in this external space with link2sd and other stuff, or it would be better to make the swap and then make the sd recognized as internal memory?
I read that sometimes the swap operation causes lags and some other stuff, so I need your opinions and suggests.
Thanks in advice
Some custom ROMs automatically swap /sdcard/ with /sdcard/external_sd/
You could try that, it's a great solution IMHO.
Did you try "GL to SD(root)"? Download it from the market... It just mount the external SD as the sdcard, but temporarily. And it also moves game data to external SD.
Sent from my GT-I8150 using XDA on CyanogenMod 9
Also bugs me as well. I just bought 32gb class 10 card and i am using cow bionic 2 rom. But i already changed the vold.fstab folder back to stock. I would be the same not a heavy app storer. If i dont use the app any more i delete it.
But supposedly if you have a class 10 card you should not experience any lag if you have the swap done?? How true this is i dont know
maybe i'll find this useful for heavy data games like generation of chaos or other apps/games that install themselves on the internal storage and not on the sd card, other than that, i seriously don't know what other advantage it can provide
Of course, swapping is a good solution for huge games data storing on external sd and u own a class 10 sd card which is fast enough for swapping. However, this may cause problem when u want to remove sd card as most of the apps are stored on it.
GL to sd is a better solution to me personally. I wrote a similar script instead of using GL to sd. This mounts certain paths to ur external sd card while keeping other important apps such as launcher, theme, widgets, on the internal sd.

Care to explain about the script you wrote. Also whats GL?? I wouldnt use any big games so no point in me swapping. But if any roms i flash to the phone has this done ill not bother changing it back to stock. Also is class 10 not the highest micro sd card you can get??

Yes, class 10 is the fastest writing speed for MicroSD at this moment.
I used script manager to create a script for mounting and give it SU and set it on boot. It is very simple.
Create a new script file and type the following:
(I used the Android folder as example)
Code:
mount -o bind sdcard/external_sd/Android sdcard/Android
This is for gameloft
Code:
mount -o bind sdcard/external_sd/gameloft sdcard/gameloft
After creating these, u need to cut the files in Android or gameloft from internal sdcard and paste them to the new location on external sd. Leave the original folders empty.
Remember to set them "boot" and "su".
enjoy
Edit: if u download any other games that stores its data in Android folder, it will automatically move to ur external sd card as the script has mounted the path to external sd since every boot.

But, in a swap situation, on the Wonder, Apps are not moved to External SD Card........
without swap they are moved to /sdcard/external_sd/.android_secure folder
with swap, moved Apps should be on re-mapped internal SD, so removing SD Card should not have any effect on Apps...
of course App Data should be on External [Removable] SD Card...re-mapped as /sdcard
It seems to me, for game players, Game Loft, etc.....Gl to SD is the ideal solution....****see also EDIT below****
Video for Wonder Here:
****EDIT: Just to say, yewsiong script looks good for gamers, etc.....****
It's pretty useful if you're an avid gamer. Some games usually reach 400mb+. But if not, you could still use it for storing music and videos.

Hi,
I followed the method outlined in your signature (http://latgale.co.uk/?p=70) and now I can see about 15GB (I have a 16GB class 10 SD) available for apps on SD.
However, when I try to move an app to the SD by using App2SD, the app doesn't go to the 15GB partition. How do you do?
Thanks a lot.

Yeah... This is something I haven't found a solution for. Whenever you try to move an app, it goes to the USB Storage. Since we swapped memories, the app will be moved to the 1.7GB memory. For me it'd be great to have everything in the Micro SD card, the 1.7 GB memory is useless to me...

Yeah, that's a real pity! :crying:
I wonder what's the point of doing so, if the memory available for the apps still remains the 1,7GB partition... why swapping partitions then?
Do you have any idea if there is any ROM that lets you install apps in the "bigger partition" (the 14,3 GB according to the example above) or are you aware of any other possible solution?
Thanks.

But, as I said before here ad nauseam, the External Physical SD Card is where Apps moved by App2SD are designed to go......so before doing a vold.fstab mount point swap, ppl should ask themselves.......
Do I really need a gigantic Internal USB Storage at [/mnt/sdcard], for what reason do I need this??
I think myself, that this is only useful for those who require to have Storage requirements for certain Games and GPS Maps Storage, etc, which do not have a built-in ability to store data on the External Physical SD Card [/mount/sdcard/external_sd]....but there are other ways to achieve this!!!

Yep, that's exactly what I would like to have!
I bought a 16GB card to install many maps and games, but I quickly ran out of memory so I cannot add anymore apps (without removing already installed apps of course).
That's why I would like to use my SD card for apps - if possible of course!
And it's a pity I have 15GB free (for what? Just my music/video/pictures?) and I cannot use this space for apps.
What are the other ways to achieve this you mentioned?
It'd be really helpful!

Hm. if im not wrong im pretty sure that His rom converts it to a different format... so put ur sd card stuff in ur internal storage or your computer and then insert your sd card go to settings and storage it should say mount sd card and it should connect to it so the phone can understand it. theres an option to format the sd card i recommend just doing that since your data from ur sd is saved somewhere else and tada! you formated your micro sd card
Yeah I think. That might. Work because I just got a new 32 gig sd card and with that apps tosd hack I formatted it because it is kinda annoying that all that data goes to a fake internal with the nice hack but everything is on card ill just start fresh without format like with the old card thanks it worked fine before I formatted the card on high on androud rom great rom for the moment looking for a good touchwiz rom.

Apps not seeing the SD card?

I've ran into a problem where my apps aren't seeing my SD card. If I go into storage under settings it see it and can tell me how big it is and how much space is available but my apps don't see it. A file manager can see it and even move files to and from it but my regualr apps cant. Like my camera says no external storage available.
I've tried formatting it in different ways NTFS, exFAT, FAT32 with a couple different allocation sizes but nothing seems to fix it.

Your card has to be fat or fat32. Your card also has to have 50-100mbs left on it also or you will get that no external space or running low using camera. As far as other apps they use the internal sd for storage. Have you tried reformatting it using cwm recovery? It will format the sd or ex sd for you as well. Just some thoughts but you do have a strange issue. If it doesn't work out you might wanna try reflashing your rom to see if that works becsuse it sounds like something is corrrupted somewhere.

It should work just fine but just to be sure it would be best to format
the 16 or 32GB card using a windows utiliity which formats in fat32.
That way you will never have any issues or problems with it.

Yes even 64 GB - some roms l;ike Wicked which I have I noticed the SD card needs to be formatted in fat-32 not the standard out of the box format. Then it works fine.
Go to the Play store and search APARTED I use it and it formats in fat-32 super fast and easy! You can even use that program to partition it. I was on Wicked V8 (4.2 Android) using a 5 gig partition and links-2sd to move all apps and data to the external SD. Now when I re-do the phone to V9 (4.3 android) if It has Apps 2-SD which it should, I will still partition and see if I can't get all the apps on a certain partition and my stuff on another
So long story short yes will work. Any issues like won't mount aka not showing in storage - external storage - just get APARTED from google play and use it to format the SD card in FAT32
