Are you having trouble installing ClockWorkMod?
You click “BOOT AD SD” in MAGLDR and the screen flashes up with an error quickly and returns straight abck to MAGLDR main menu?
This guide is for you.
NOTE: I’m sure there are plenty of other methods which also work, but this method worked for me so I figured I’d see if I can help a few people out. Please don’t post if you are just going to have a whinge about your method being better than mine. I'm not interested in debates. I am however happy for people to post if they have a method that they have found successful. Once verified, I will update the OP.
Before we begin, I take no responsibility for any damage to your device or loss of important data.
Using this procedure will wipe your memory card so BACK UP your files first.
You will need:
• A Windows PC running XP or greater.
• A MicroSD reader (I have had issues with mounting my SD via the HD2 using MAGLDR, you might find it works fine for you, but I strongly recommend using an SD Card Reader.
• A copy of SD Formatter (free).
NOTE: If you have been using APPS2SD+, you are going to lose all your apps performing this procedure. I strongly suggest using a program like Android Commander to pull the APK files off your phone. You can then copy them back and re-install everything once Clockwork is working. ☺
OK HERE WE GO….
PHONE SHOULD NOT BE CONNECTED TO PC VIA USB UNTIL STEP 9.
1. Shut down your phone and take out the SD Card.
2. Insert the SD Card in to your card reader and plug it in to your computer.
3. Load “SD Formatter” and select your SD card from the “Device” drop down menu.
4. Click on the “Option” button and choose “Full Erase” and set “Format Size Adjustment” to “ON”. This will ensure that any previous partitions will be removed correctly. Click OK.
Don’t be alarmed, we will create a new EXT partition later on for APPS2SD+ ☺
5. Click “Format” and wait for your SD card to finish formatting. Time will vary depending on the size of your SD Card.
6. Now your SD card is formatted, copy the Clockwork “initrd.gz” and “zImage” files to the root of your SD card.
7. Copy the zip ROM of your choice to the SD card.
8. Put the SD card back in your phone and boot into MAGLDR by holding down the power button while powering on.
9. Flash the Clockwork Partition system to your phone in the usual NAND manner. When the phone reboots, disconnect it from the PC (unplug the USB cable and hold down the power button to boot back in to MAGLDR main menu. For more information on flashing NAND ROM's, BROWSE THESE GUIDES
10. Select “BOOT AD SD” from the menu. If you have followed this guide correctly, you should now be in ClockWork Recovery ☺
At this stage the process will vary depending on the style of ROM you wish to use. If you want to use a ROM which supports APPS2SD, you will need to create a new EXT partition on your SD card using the partitioning tool built in to ClockWork Recovery. If you do not wish to use APPS2SD, you can just go ahead and flash the ROM zip.
IF YOU WANT TO USE APPS2SD:
1. Use the Partitioning tool built in to ClockWork Recovery to create the partitions for you. Instructions for this can be found HERE.
2. Once partitioned, remove the SD card from your phone and insert it into your card reader. Copy back the “initrd.gz” and “zImage” files to the root of your SD card, along with the ZIP ROM you desire to use.
3. Put the SD card back in your phone, reboot the phone and flash the zip ROM of your choice.
DONE!!
I hope this guide helps a few people who were completely stuck with ClockWork as I was.

reserved.... Hopefully you can all help me keep this guide up to date as new versions of MAGLDR and ClockWork are released.

And for nand 1024 t-mous ??
No boot tooooooo
Same method is mentioned in other tutorials so what's new in it?Most of the users are not been able to format as Full erase through SD card formatter so what would they do?I myself getting error of 123Fatal Hit n there the phone remains stuck.
As I stated in the OP, I'm just trying to help out. All the information is available elsewhere, this just provides an easy reference for people having problems.
If the Windows based formatting tools arent working for you, I'd suggest formatting to FAT32 in Gparted, then trying to format again with SD formatter.
Sentinel196, thanks for your GUIDE!
I tried this, unfortunately, still it doesn't work.
I think the problem is with my 8GB class 4 (cheap, unknown brand) SD card. For some reason, MAGLDR (1.11) doesn't recognize it fully when I select USB MassStorage. I hear the "USB device connected"-sound, but no drive comes up in Windows Explorer.
I tried another card I have, a Kingston 16GB class 2 card, with that one, everything works fine.
The strange thing is that the 8GB card works fine under Android, never had any problems with it until trying to use it with MAGLDR.
Anyway, I will put this issue I have with my SD-card in the MAGLDR-thread.
None of theese guide helped me.... It is not just about formating SD and stuff ....
I had to flash old WM 6.5 ROM, than do all again, radio, MALGDR, format SD, ClockworkMod ... like u do for the 1st time when 1st NAND droid came out ... don't know if this help someone ... but helped me ... my SD is 8GB class 2 ...
when I copied some file/folder to SD I always used Card Reader ...

In my experience for best results at this stage (when the phone reboots from CWM installation and every time you wish to boot into CWM) the device should be disconnected from USB (my device specs in siggy). I posted my take on a tutorial HERE in the original [10 JAN][RECOVERY] ClockworkMod Recovery for HD2 - v1.2 thread.

Nice guide!
Thanks man! I was about to give up on clockwork till your wisdom made it possible. Now my phone very complete and stable."Flashing on the fly!"
To those having trouble follow this guide to the T it works! You may have to do it twice if your 4:20 friendly Hope everyone enjoys clockwork as much as I am!
HD2 best investment i ever made! "sorry dog"
For me, when I first got Magldr on the phone i tried messing around with the Boot AD SD option and tried changing the SD directory where Android boots from and that is what I think got Clockwork not to boot correctly for me. So instead of putting the two copy to sd files on the root of my sd card, I put in into a folder called nand and through the services menu in Magldr I added that as SD folder boot option for Clockwork Mod recovery and everything worked just fine.
I have seen a few people do this ..

Just out of interest, did you try just reflashing MAGLDR before starting completely from scratch? I cant see how loading a WinMo6.5 ROM would make a difference as the partition table is erased by MAGLDR when a NANDROID ROM is flashed.

I can't understand the part after making nand directory. What do you do in service menu?
Fully working Samsung Galaxy S - Using 16GB External Micro SD to run OS and function as External SD!!
Ok so to set the scene I will quickly explain the issue I had with my Samasung Galaxy S.
One day it worked....
Next day it didn't...from then on it would only boot to first screen then continually repeat this step.....
After day two of having no luck at fixing the issue I got an S3...great phone!
BUT DONT GIVE UP JUST YET! It can be fixed!!!
Overall I think I would have spent somewhere in the ballpark of about 40 hours trying to fix the Galaxy S...stubborn? Yes....and my Galaxy S was such a good phone I hated the idea of binning it.
I wont waste your time listing the hundreds of methods I tried or posts I read, but in the end all things pointed to a dead internal SD.
I should be able to run the OS off an external SD... shouldn't I? The answer is Yes!
Many hours were spent on this stage and for about a week I had a working pone with OS running on External SD, but no access to the camera or anything which required an external SD.
I now have a perfectly working phone, using a 16gb External SD to run the OS and remaining space on it recognised as the external SD.
I can't promise this will work for everyone but here is the last of WAY TO MANY methods I used which completely solved this problem for me.
Let me know if this works for you & GOOD LUCK!
Step 1:
Your phone must be rooted!
The best, easiest and only way I was able to do it is with the following guide, big thank you to the person who put it up. As my Internal SD was dead! my external SD was to be my new internal SD...so the standard add to zip method for rooting on external SD... would obviously not work for me! yes I worded that perfectly!
BIG IMPORTANT NOTE IN CAPITAL LETTERS! - Make sure you have your external SD inserted during the below process!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1852546
NOW! You should have your phone booting as it used to back in the good old days! However.....some of you wont...if this is the case please follow Step 1B.
Step 1B:
If the above did not work for you then you need a way to connect your Micro SD to your PC (I did this using a USB adaptor).
1. Download and install EaseUS partition master
2. Insert Micro SD in PC
3. EaseUS partition master
4. Wipe all partitions/data.
5. Create EXT4 partition approx 2gb
6. Create FAT32 partition with remaining space.
7. Remove battery from phone
8. Insert SD, Battery back in.
9. Turn on, you should have your phone booting as it used to back in the good old days!
IF NOT THEN.....Start with Step 1B then do Step1 then if all looking as it should move to step 2. If not...sorry...I have failed you!
Step 2:
You phone should now have booted like the good old days....but if you go into SD/Storage on android OS, you will notice it does not recognise the remaining space on the External SD as an external SD...it must be very confusing for the green robot!
So next steps as follows!
1. Install script manager app and mount r/w app from Google Play (market)
2. Use mount r/w to Mount the system partition in r/w mode.
3. Browse using script manager app as root (change setting in config).
4. Go to /system/etc folder and change file permission for vold.fstab to rwxrwxrwx (This means tick all the 9 boxes on the left not the 3 on the right.....such a technical explanation)
5. Then edit the vold.fstab file as text and change the following
Change:
dev_mount sdcard /mnt/sdcard auto /devices/platform/s3c-sdhci.0/mmc_host/mmc0
to
dev_mount sdcard /mnt/sdcard auto /devices/platform/s3c-sdhci.2/mmc_host/mmc2
Change:
s3c-sdhci.0
to
s3c-sdhci.2
Change:
mmc0
to
mmc2
Save the file and reboot the phone!
If all has gone well then your sdcard partition will be mounted and old faithful is ready to ride once again!
I hope this worked for you, if it didn't...gutted and I guess you have moved onto the next post...good hunting!
Please note this solution was created from a pile of posts I trawled through to get a solution. The above vold.fstab solution was taken from the following post. Unfortunately this posts overall solution didn't work for me, but I would not have been able to mount remaining External SD Space as well...you know THE EXTERNAL SD! without his post, which is the best part!

Thanks for this, I'm going to try this again. Finally a good explanation of what to do.
I posted a thread yesterday with, I think, the same problem. Could you take a look and see if I have the same problem as you did?
Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1905284
EDIT
Does the EXT4 partition has to be the first and the FAT32 the second?
If so, isn't it a problem that windows can't read the FAT32 partition. In case I need to drop files on it? (because it only reads the first)
EDIT
Thanks in advance!
Good Luck!

do EXT4 first, make both as primary partitions (NOT logical..probably obvious but just spelling it out )

with the method I used above you shouldnt need to drop any files on, let me know.
Quite similar except I couldnt acces my internal SD at all, let me know how you go!
Same issue ?
Hi,
My friend has Galaxy S, And he has similar issue. For him phone boots till splash screen and then reboots on its own.
He was able to go to recovery mode/wipe data/cache partitions etc. He was also able to go to download mode.
But he didn't try flashing custom ROM or anything instead he gave it to Samsung service center where they told him that his Motherboard has gone for toss and need to replace complete MOBO which would cost $110 (6K INR).
Though i didnt get time to check his cell myself i guess it is because of internal SD card has gone. Because he was telling in recovery page it was showing some mount error (not sure if it was internal or external SD card). If that is the case i can try this method to run OS from external SD card .
I have two questions here.
1] If MOBO was gone (like samsung service guy told) would it still boot at first place ? or even if it boots would it go to recovery or download mode ?
2] Where exactly Recovery image is stored ? internal SD or in some other memory ?
Thanks
Exactly the same issue! MOBO i doubt it!

That is exactly the same situation my phone was in, exactly.
I highly doubt there was any issue with the motherboard, as I understand it the internal SD is hard wired on the MOBO which is probably why they said to replace it as one piece.
1] If MOBO was gone (like samsung service guy told) would it still boot at first place ? or even if it boots would it go to recovery or download mode ?
As above! As i understand it it would not go into either mode if MOBO was fried, doubt you would get any response at all.
2] Where exactly Recovery image is stored ? internal SD or in some other memory ?
Il get back to you on this one

Dead Internal SD Solution Galaxy S - HELP
reganstott,
First of all thank you for the hope.
1 - Your step 1, the link provided doesn't work (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1852546)
is there another link available?
In what step I ACTUALLY install the OS on the EXTERNAL SD, just asking to get the whole pic.
Is it possible, in order to just test it, use a 2GB SD card?
thanks
It seems to work, I only have to do a mount switch now.
The only thing is; I had the EXT4 (2GB) as first partition and FAT32 (5GB) as second, but now if I connect to my PC it sees only 2GB storage of FAT32. So I guess I have to switch them?
I'm going to try again and then do the mount switch.
EDIT
Confirmed this is working, running on CyanogenMod 9.1.0 right now.
I thank you really reaally much! I almost gave up, but luckily I saw your post in time.
Thanks!
help please

needed to do this.

Just follow the steps, in case it is still unclear here exactly what I did;
Needed
microSDcard
Step 1
1. Wipe your external SD card and create 2 partitions; first one FAT32, second one EXT4 (about 2GB). Both has to be primary (not local)
I did this with Minitool Partition Wizard
2. Insert the SD card into your phone and install firmware from point 2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1852546
3. Install CF-Root link is also here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1852546
4. Check if phone boots right (this goes slower than normal, so just wait)
5. If phone works right do Step 2 from first post
Step 2
My phone happened to have no Play Store after the root. If so, follow this step 2
1. Install this zip: will upload this file in a minute -> I can't post outside links yet -.-
This will to the mount swap (for firmware above)
OR
2. Install a root explorer APK through ADB and edit vold.fstab like Step 2 in first post
Now your phone has to be working. If not, check the steps and try again.
Otherwise your problem is others than ours.
p.s.
If you do flash another ROM don't forget to swap mounts! (edit /system/etc/vold.fstab in zip file from ROM)
Currently on Slimbean 2.5
Thank you
Hello,
First I want to thank you for the effort and time. I believe that my SGS has a very similar problem.
I try to flash it with many ROMS, uninstall the apps, but after reboot they always come back and I get TONS os FORCE CLOSES.
Can't Install new apps, so I guess the internal SD is the problem.
The thing is that my SGS is a Brazilian model I9000b (with TV) just wanted to make sure if it changes anything from the
instructions you gave me.
(I don't need a working TV, so I don't care for another firmware)
thanks

Just a question:
1 - I created 2 partitions on the EXTERNAL SD
2 - inserted the EXTERNAL SD into phone.
3 - on ODIN, how he knows to install the new firmware ON THE EXTERNAL SD rather that on the INTERNAL SD??
---------- Post added at 10:15 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:49 AM ----------
when I try to apply the new ZIP from sd it doesn't recofnize the SD
actually it never did.
it is showing me the INTERNAL SD with all the folder of the apps I had, which I can't delete anymore.
3 - on ODIN, how he knows to install the new firmware ON THE EXTERNAL SD rather that on the INTERNAL SD??
I don't know how it works, but it does work.

Not a problem, glad it worked for you too. Not sure why the step 1 link isn't working anymore. Anyone else reading this.... I will post soon with the method for step one rooting exercise. (to put a up a brief its just using the odin way of rooting to avoid the issue of not being able to use external sd add zip method)
Info
Hey there,
2 important questions:
1 - My SGS is the Brazilian model I9000B, does it make any difference?
2 - Can I use a 2GB EXTERNAL SD, or it MUST be more than this?
3 - Do I need to have any knowledge in LINUX?
thanks again.,
I have managed to get it all done, modded .fstab file before applying new rom but after applying the new rom and booting in, I get encryption unsuccessful. (CM9.1.0)
Is this unfortunately the end of what can be done?
Nope..

Thanks for getting back to me. I modded the rom to have the fstab use the correct settings but I still get the issue. I've tried with Darky and with CM.
Seems I will need to stay with jw4 and the app crashes until I get a new phone at the end of the year.

If you use this method and then do a new rom...u have to do the whole process again...each time you put a new rom on you will need to change .fstab etc..

Do you mean that after the new rom is applied and I get encryption unsuccessful, i need to access the root of the phone somehow (presumably android commander or something similar) and change the fstab that way while it is powered on and stuck on the error message?
Or do I need to modify the zip file I want to apply before I apply it and then deploy it? If so, then I have already done this with no success.
Also, is there a way to ensure that messages and contacts don't get lost everytime the phone loses power?

Yes, means your internal storage is dead. My advice - if you can get it replaced thru warranty do that, otherwise buy one on Ebay with broken screen (or/and any other parts) but with working motherboard and swap it. Last option - sell your phone for parts and get a new one...
I tried to install a ROM and all my data were gone and my SD card files look pretty messed up so I decided to wipe the system and return to Stock later. After wiping the system, I realize the storage cant be mounted and the HORROR begins. My phone got no OS to boot. and i dont have recovery on phone :S pls someone help

flash Philz 5.15.9 the SD card mount function work only on that recovery and you will be able to mount sd card to copy your rom to sd card and don't forget if you want to intsall kit kat after copy your rom to sd card after this you must to flash latest TWRP2.7.1 or latest CWM or latest PHILZ
I used the Marshmallow feature to merge the external SD card with the internal memory.
I decided to flash SuperSU but when I rebooted into TWRP I could only see the root directory and I'm not sure how to get to the internal storage. Looking at it in Solid Explorer it appears that the internal storage should be at:
/storage/emulated/0
but the storage folder doesn't seem to be in the root directory when I look at it in TWRP.
Any ideas?
Internal storage is mounted under /DATA and /SDCARD in TWRP.

Tested this on Marshmallow with the external sdcard mounted as internal storage, but it isn't mounted there.
Same here.
How to mount Internal storage or SDCard formatted as Internal storage in TWRP ?
it may have something to do with the new way of handling sd cards in marshmallow
(I know this thread is old but have seen the question asked many times but not solved).
Have been using sideload for the last month - thought there must be an easier way. There is!!
Access /data via a file manager (as root) and copy the zip to /data . You can then access it via recovery.

Don't mean to be a jackass... But, what zip file should I move to /data?
---------- Post added at 03:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:22 PM ----------
Wait, you mean whatever I wanna flash?
Yes, the CM rom zip, supersu zip or whatever it is you want to flash. Just remember to delete it after you've flashed it (or before you copy the next update there) so you don't fill up that partition.
Hey. If there is someone who can reply to this thread?
It seems there isn't any workaround yet to solve this problem
moving to /data works! thanks!
Wondering if TWRP will solve this file reading problem in the future. Also are there other folders that can be read in TWRP besides /data? Just wondering. Thanks.
hi guys,
i figured out this problem
1. reboot to your recovery (twrp)
2. click mount
3. enable mtp and click on usb (which is at the down left corner)
4. connect your device to your pc with a usb cable and load the files which you wanna flash .

that worked! thanks! after mounting the system and enabling MTP my computer could see both the internal storage and Micro SD as separate entities. I just put the zip file in the TWRP folder on my computer and I navigated into external_sd in TWRP on my phone to see the zip.

None of these solutions worked for me, I formatted sd as internal and cannot access it in recovery, and get error message using computer that file could not be copied.

What directory are you looking at in TWRP?

Turns out in recovery my phone was ONLY able to access internal storage and not the sd card which was formatted as internal storage.
To fix this I simply re formatted the sd card as external, unfortunately losing the data on the sd card.

What you described is normal.
When you activate adoptable storage the internal and external storage become combined. There is no separate external sd card as it's all treated as internal.
In recovery internal would have also been external storage.

Ummm, if I had root there would be no need to flash supersu. And without root, I can't flash SuperSU. Wonderful.
@ahmed rashid, thanks for pointing out that the device can be mounted via MTP when in recovery! That saved the day.
If u have rooted device & Su then the path of internal storage in recovery must have, Select data/media/get into internal storage files & folder
I'm using OS 5.0.2 with twrp 3.0.2, this method working fine for me check it & thanks me later
Hey guys
yesterday i bought the Samsung Tab 3 10.1 P5200 for a few bucks. the performance was really bad and the battery jumped to zero in a second. so i flashed the TWRP 3.0.2 "Santos" Recovery via Odin and started the recovery after this. but there is the problem, i can only install roms cia an external SD CARD. there is no internal option in the TWRP.
is there a possibility to instal the CM 13.0 Rom, Houdini and gApps without a SD Card? could you tell me how?
Thanks a lot

In TWRP, go to Mount and try to mount "data". Also, go in Advanced and copy the Log to SD Card (Actually it will copy it on /sdcard) and send the log here.
