Has a patch been made yet for the Note 3 that will allow me, if rooted, to use NFC when my screen off or at the lock screen? I bought some NFC tags and didn't realize it was a root feature. My old Galaxy S3 was always rooted and had a ROM so I didn't realize I needed root for it until now.
There is a thread in the generic Note 3 section with the mod you are looking for:

Hello,
I have been using Samsung's brand of tablets and smartphones for several years. My first Samsung android device was the first generation of the Galaxy Tab P1000, and subsequently switched to Galaxy Tab P6200/6800, followed by Galaxy SIII and currently using NOTE II LTE N7105.
I would like to share some of my my experience with you:
1) Device casing with magnetic clip will cause your android sensors inaccurate,
2) Device casing in Black color will increase device overheating,
3) Update to the latest official firmware, as for NOTE II LTE N7105, the JB 4.1.2 lately released, try it as I tried and it is more stable and seldom get overheating,
4) For those devices which have been rooted, look for the specific kernel that will prevent overhearting,
5) The initial charging of your newly purchased device battery is very important, it must be charged at least 8 to 12 hours without turning it ON,
6) Visit these resources for further tips

Trying to not to turn on a newly acquired Note 2 for at least 8 hours while it charges is just impossible.
Hi!
I have 2 devices : Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2. Both could read CC and passport NFC chips with the apps I have (and would identify the NFC chip with a audio feedback when present). I note that since I've updated both of these devices recently, they can't read the NFC chips on several NFC enabled credit cards I've tested, as well as on my passport.
They can still read other NFC tags easily... and even write them. Just credit cards and passports don't work anymore.
Wondering if this is something that may have been recently introduced in Android?
The S3 is running Kit Kat (Cyanogen Mod 11.0). The Note 2 is running a stock Samsung 4.3 (latest) but rooted.
Anybody notice something similar?
Ideas?
Gilles.
Hello a few weeks ago I met someone with a Galaxy Note 2 who was running a custom OS on his phone that gave him Note 3 capabilties which made me wonder, can I run a Note tablet OS on my Galaxy Tab S and buy an S Pen that will allow me to use features like Air Command & S Note?
If so, I'd like to know how. Thanks in advance.
Won't work. You can't run a note ROM on a tab S and the tab S screen isn't capable of reading an S pen.
I remember seeing some S pen stuff in the list of installed apks in the stock ROM. I suspect they all use more it less the same software. If the hardware isn't there, it is left unused.
Similarly, you see some phone stuff in the Wi-Fi version. Doesn't mean you can make calls.
Hey everyone I'm having an issue with my note 4 the NFC isn't turning on or off under the option to turn it on the slider is gray and stuck in the on position but its not actually on. Its running stock firmware 5.1.1 already tried master reset didn't fix the issue tried re flashing with smart switch app but the app isn't allowing it. Trying to cover all my bases here could I follow a guide on androidrom to do a fresh install and give that a shot before I try reaching out to samsung? My only concern is my baseband and build number are different currently on the phone. Any help would be great thanks.
Did you replace the battery? NFC has to be compatible within the battery I've read.
I've tried with three different batteries including the original.

Hello. I am trying to use the new Samsung Health monitor app with my Note 10 Plus and Galaxy Watch Active2's new ECG function. It keeps telling me it can not open the app because my device is rooted. I have not rooted a phone since my S4. I've owned an S6 Edge, S8 Plus, and now the note 10 plus. I did have busy box still in my apps that were backed up to my app store. I uninstalled it. I did not have supers installed on this phone but zI believe it might have made it as far as my S8 Plus before I uninstalled it. I can't use any of the rooted fixes I came across and unroot apps don't work. They won't run because there is no root detected. I have not tried reset because it is not a new problem. My S8 Plus and now this phone show as being rooted. I use Webroot Secure Anywhere security. It has told me the phone is rooted from day one of ownership. The same for my S8 Plus. It is almost like a file or app that gets restored or installed when all of my backed items are transferred my device. I really want to use the ecg function on my watch for health reasons. I am at a loss for what to do. One thing to note my S4 was rooted. It died and was never u rooted. My S6 was purchased and my S4 data restored to the phone. Then S6 to S8 and finally S8 Plus data to Note 10 Plus.
I have not reset the phone and would prefer not to. I am working 7 days a week. The time to restore afterward is an issue. I will if that's what I must do but, I won't be able to for a while. Plus I don't have a complete backup for all my apps. I'd lose a lot I'd rather not lose.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
assuming it is not a 2nd hand phone i would try with webroot software removed
It is not. Bought it directly from Samsung. Well.... I'm assuming it is not. I paid for a brand new phone. Thank you. I will try that
