what does (don't flash the gaps) mean? - Samsung Galaxy W I8150

every ROM has this note,
DON'T FLASH THE GAPS..what gaps?! i am just going to flash the ZIP

For questions you should post in Q&A section.
Anyway, Gapps is Google Apps, this is the package that include Google's apps.
Some ROMs have the gapps included in ROM's zip, but other ROMs you should download the gapps separately, and flash it after the ROM's zip.

No not with CNA any longer...
This may sound silly, but If I were to open up the GAPPS zip you put up here, could I go in and remove items I don't want and have it still flash properly?
It would be nice if someone put up a CWM that only included the Play Market and Talk and whatever else you can't get on the Play Market...just to keep it as simply and small as possible....also eagerly awaiting for someone to post an inverted GAPPS CWM for Jellybean**
Thank you for the stock deodexed AOSP build!

You can do just that... just open the zip file, no need to extract it and search for system/app folder and delete what you do not want to flash.

You're welcome. The only apps in there are facelock, gmail and talk. What is taking space that is not needed are a couple of the video files, sound files and the boot screen. I have a slightly smaller version I use for myself that I can post later today for others who may want to use it.
Thank you...I'll give it a spin tonight...the Gapps are getting real big...I remember back during the Gingerbread days, they were like 10mb or less...now they're hovering at 100mb if not more.

[Q] Nexus i9250 GSM google apps problem

Hello guys, I'm kinda new here. I have a small problem which I hope you guys have the answer to. Here it is, on my nexus i9250 GSM, if I flash the gapps package and the custom ROM package separately(as some ROMs don't have gapps integrated), I get an error every time I try to use the voice search and voice typing, and I had to forced close the application, and the error persist unless I turn off the voice type from the android keyboard settings. If I don't disable the feature, then I couldn't use the message application. On the other hand, with gapps integrated ROMs like MAGURO AOSP R11, I have no problem at all. Can anyone help? I'm a little desperate here.

which gapps are you using? what firmware are you on?
Some ROMs will require their own gapps package, others will work fine with goo.im gapps (and here there's gapps for 4.1.x, and for 4.2.x).

I'm truly sorry it took me so long to reply, it was a hectic day. I'm using JB 4.2.1 and the ROM I'm using is AOSP Maguro R8. I'm new to this ROM flashing and all, so excuse me if I didn't answer your question properly. You quoted, "Some ROMs will require their own gapps package..". I felt the same way and I tried looking around for other gapps but every different attempt felt like I was downloading the same file over and over. I followed every instructions posted, downloaded both ROM and gapps from a link given on the same page. "gapps-jb-20121212-signed" is the package I got each time. File name and file size are all similar in every download. So, now I think that I'm the problem.

Those Google apps are old. The package I use is from goo.im and it's dated 3/8. Those are probably 4.1 gapps.

Sent just call me DrA
Thanks men perfect
How does this package differ from the standard gapp package
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
The first, most obvious difference is it's size
The second and main dinference is it doesn't contain apps, that can be installed via play market. There is everything needed for calendar, contacts and app sync, that's it
Grt work...
I use playstore only
All ****y apps are gone now..
Thanks (presd d buttn alrdy)

First things first. The original gapps package didn't work as u didn't mount system before flashing. My package won't too, so please be sure to mount system!
As I can see from your message, you couldn't flash gapps, so I suppose your system is clear. You can flash this right now. In case you have any issues reflash the rom and flash this package again
does these gapps work also on ARMv7 devices? I want to flash them on my devices because I use only play store app

I guess its a recovery with modification to device tree and kernel. I recommend to stay away from the 2nd file.
You only need the .zip file. and yeah, dont forget to flash the latest TWRP 3.0.2-1

Why we do not have delta update support. Build 20161130 is avaialable but downloader starts diwnloading full rom.
Can you restore your app+data via titanium backup? And what gapps you choose?
Last week I flashed cm14.1 r2 but I couldn't restore my app because there is no sd card option in titanium backup and insufficient memory when i flashed pico opengapps. Thanks in advance.
When I tried to flash the rom, TWRP 3.0.2-1 says that no md5 file found but the flash is still successful. But when I tried to update the rom with the new nightly (1130) using the updater, it says that md5 mismatch. How can I fix this? Thanks a lot
