TV tuner - Nexus 7 (2013) Accessories

has anyone purchased a micro usb tv tuner for their device?
if so, which and how much was it
also, has anyone been able to try a USB tv tuner via the OTG cable?

Bump. I am also curious about the possibility of connecting a TV tuner via USB OTG. Currently, I crammed a TV tuner in there, but it looks like the tablet doesn't care about that.

hey martin, what tuner have you got and how much did it cost you??

It is Evolve Mars, and 2 years ago it cost me about 20€. It is a basic TV tuner but it served and still serves its purpose - occasionally watching TV on a college dorm.

I think you need to be rooted to use droidtv and then recompile the modules for the kernal version.
I only found ones for 3.0.8+ & 3.1.10 kernals.

[Q] TV Guide/IR Blaster

Hey all,
I've been using CM for a while, but I always have a lingering regret of going back to stock for the sole purpose of having the TV app. The greatest thing about it was it had a simple TV favourite interface with remote controls and access to other media systems.
Has anyone discovered any apps similar to this? Meaning to take advantage of the IR blaster for the one and have a nice interface with cable TV.

I use the Highly Customizable remote (IR Blaster) called "smart remote" I'ts a little pricey but I believe its well worth it, you can set up anything and everything with it. I have my Denon receiver, BlueRay, Directv, Panasonic Viera TV, and my HD streaming box all connected to the app and if you set it up right you can usually turn all devices on with click of one button, including switching inputs on TV &/or receiver at the same time..here it is on the play market...https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.remotefairy~~~~~it's made for the HTC One, Hope this helps you!!!

I am using Smart Remote. Also a little pricey but it controls everything I own and even things like HVAC units. Nice interface and easy to set up.

Best controller for emulators AND android games?

Can someone recommend me a controller that has good compatibility for both emulators and android games themselves? I'd like something that easily works. I'm noticing some posts around the internet where people aren't having issues with emulators, but are having issues with android games, or the exact opposite. I have a rooted fire tv in case that is needed for some controller compatibility apk.

I bought the Amazon Fire TV Game Controller, works with anything that supports gamepads. I have a PS3 & Xbox 360 controllers that worked good on somethings and sucked on others. So i've been really happy with the Amazon Game Controller.
I got the Ouya controller. It works well and functions as a mouse as well.
The Amazon controller has worked for me with:
NES
Genesis
SNES
DC
PS 1
I can not get it to figure out N64 commands, and this is an emulator problem. I may have to connect a mouse to map to the controller. If anyone has figured out N64 on Fire TV, please post
Anyone tried the Wiimote?

Which version are you using? I have the Google Play version sideloaded. I would like to get the Fire TV version as it works with the remote, but since I only have the stick, I can't purchase and download it.

I'm curious also if anyone uses a wiimote for any emulators/amazon games. Does the classic controller extension work with it? Does it even work in the emulators at all?
I want to get a controller for my FTV but I have so many around my house I don't want another one, so if I can find one that works with what I want to do I'd rather just use it
Also anyone tried using PS3 controller, does it even work?
I've heard it mentioned that it was possible but no instructions- does anyone know if a wireless Xbox 360 can be paired to the FIre TV, and if so, how? Note- I'm asking about the wireless being paired directly via bluetooth- NOT using a USB dongle or adapter.

Unless there has been some recent development on that, its not possible without the dongle sorry

No. Xbox controllers use a proprietary wireless standard, not straight Bluetooth. It can only be paired with the adapter.

[Q] Can you use a TV Tuner with the Fire TV?

Hi Guys,
I'm relatively new to Kodi and would like to connect a TV Tuner to my Amazon Fire TV box to watch TV via Kodi. My questions are:
1. is it possible to connect a TV tuner to the Fire TV via the USB port?
2. Does the Fire TV need to be rooted?
3. Which TV tuner(s) is/are compatible with the Fire TV, in particular with Kodi.
I couldn't see a thread or any mention about the Fire TV and TV Tuners having searched through Google and XDA and would rally appreciate it if someone could help me out.
Thanks.
I'd also like to know if this is an option. I am fairly certain that something like the HDHomeRun Extend would work, but its quite a bit more expensive than a usb tuner.
Anyone? Am still looking for someone to reply
Thanks

I'm going to help you bump this because I want to know, too.
I've been searching for days now and the best answer I can come up with is - maybe or probably not. It makes my head hurt. It might increase the possibility by using a tuner known to work with a Raspberry. Hauppauge 1191 WinTV-HVR-950Q ($50 through a third party on Amazon) is among the few and seems to have a margin of better reviews. And since it is supposed to work with he Pi, and I have one collecting dust, I'm going to get one and see if I can make it work with the Fire. Tough either way, I expect to have to jump through hoops (of Fire? to make it happen.

Convert android mobile into android tv help.

Hello all im after a simple question answered if its at all possible and maybe a little direction on how its acheived.
I have an old galaxy s4 GT-i9505 with a broken screen running as a makeshift android tv.
Its plugged directly into a TV through mhl and serves its purpose very well.
Its mainly used for Netflix/Kodi or any other Tv catchup type app.
Its currently being controlled a number of ways, mainly with a amazon firestick Bluetooth remote, (s4 runs much better than a stick BTW) but certain apps (Netflix, various tv apps) dont recognise the centre button.
However this isnt an issue as I have different methods to control apps that dont use my remote too well (droidmote).
What my main question is, when installing an app say Netflix on an android phone how can I get the app to think its being installed onto an android tv device like FireTV,firestick, nexus, or any generic android tv box?
Is there a way to modify my rom to enable fooling detection of Android tv?
If this is not possible is there any android tv rom I might be able to use on the gt-i9505?
Last question Id like answered, is there anyway I can map the buttons on my Bluetooth remote to ger the centre button working?
I would be very grateful if any devs who may read this help out by letting me know if any of this is possible, ive exhausted Google search but came up with nothing.
Thanks alot.
Just to add to this, am I able to use gapps for Android tv? Or should I use the micro option?
Again really appreciate any help or pointers.
+1

USB otg gaming controller on firestick 4k?

I have a 4k firestick and I never have got my Xbox 360 wired controller to work on otg . It has worked well on previous gens. Has anyone found a solution for fixing this yet, or do you know where I should start looking? I achived root recently, so I can make modifications..
Any help would be much appreciated ? thank you!
Unfortunately, it seems the drivers needed for OTG controllers have been removed or omitted on fireos 6. I don't know how hard or easy it would be to add them back, all I know is that the steam link app is able to use controller as it is using its own drivers, so it may be a good place to start looking at in order to fix this issue.
With some digging it might be something to do with an xpad.ko file. Going to dig around the non 4k stick and see what else I can learn

Yes, kernel must be compiled with xpad enabled.
Edit:I enabled XPAD driver on my custom kernel and my XBOX 360 controller is working (it's the wireless version, connected thru a Microsoft USB Wireless Receiver).

Score! Going to try your kernel now!
All set! USB otg works now with no problem on wired with your kernel. The wireless dongle and wired controller use the same device id, from what I learned getting to here. 045e:028e . As well as a host of other knockoffs.
Hopefully there are enough good keywords on this thread for people to find this solution in the future. I'm an amateur, but i have good google-fu. this is the only solution for the 4k that I'm aware of for Xbox 360 controllers to work again.
Much obliged.

The current release does not have XPAD enabled. I will upload the new version now
Edit: New kernel 6.2.7.1 version uploaded (v2). My XBOX 360 wireless receiver wasn't working without enabling XPAD driver, so kernel 6.2.7.1 v1 was a no go.

Upon further testing: the knockoff controller I have is working fine after installing v1. The official Xbox 360 controller I have, is not. I'll try v2 now.
(Both have the same device Id oddly enough)
Edit
After a painless update to v2. Official Xbox 360 wired works perfectly ?
Hello!
I have both the Fire TV stick and stick 4K. One of them (must have been the non-4K) was working with 4 dongled XBox clone controllers (all 4 dongles on a 4-port USB hub, which was connected via an OTG-Y-cable to the stick. After I got the 4K, I know realize that none of the controllers is recognized by the 4K stick (but the connection between the 4 dongles and the 4 controllers seems ok, as none of the red dongle lights flashes - just lit permanently - and the blue controller lights the same).
Now I wonder if it could happen that the non-4K stick might also loose this functionality by an update of FireOS (it's not rooted). Can this happen?
What can I do to get the functionality on the 4K stick? This thread here is a bit difficult for me to understand.
Thanks a lot for your help!
