No tweaking of auto-brightness on T-Mobile? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

So I'm a samsung n00b - long-time HTC user - but I noticed something strange.
I was playing with either a Verizon or Sprint GN3 @ best buy and noticed that the Auto-Brightness had a slider to tweak it from -5 to +5. I am trying out a GN3 from T-Mobile and I do not see that option for auto-brightness tweaking.
Is this something T-Mobile purposely/accidentally tweaked in their ROM only? If so, do any of the custom ROMs for T-Mo replace this functionality? I'm a paid user of Lux, which kicks ass, but it tends to use more battery than I'd like.
Thanks!

They removed it. And no, as of now, wanam xposed doesn't even work. (just that part of it). You could flash an international rom to get them back if you really want it.

There's no good reason for having a carrier check to use tethering either. There's no reason for Verizon to remove blocking mode. There's pretty much no reason for anything stupid the carriers do

What do you mean adjust by 5? Like keep auto on but still adjust a bit? I've never seen that and I've had android since g1.

I always have it at full brightness so this means nothing to me

Correct - the Samsung ROMs natively allow you to tune the auto-adjustment. So you can make it tend to be brigher or dimmer, but still have it auto-adjust. For some reason, the T-Mo ROM pulls this out. Go to Best Buy and play with a Verizon or Sprint GN3 and you'll see the option.
Frustrating.

Thanks for the assist. For the record, I do love Lux, but would prefer to use the native option Samsung already built in if possible.

Yeah, but you're using xposed which requires rooting. Or you have the N9005(international unlocked) not the N9005-T (this is the tmobile model). Tmobile did remove it for some reason and the only way to get it back and working is to use an international rom. Even xposed doesn't work. It puts the slider back, but the slider does nothing. I have xposed, so I'm not just saying things.

I was just about to search this topic. Why the hell would Tmobole remove this feature? On the T-Mobile note2 auto brightness was too aggressive as is the T-Mobile note3. Big sucker of battery life. I've been doing brightness manually the last couple of days and my battery life has almost doubled. This is one of the few things that make me miss my international note2. I've been out of the flashing scene for awhile because I didn't want to trigger SDS on note2 so I haven't had time to read up on flashing international ROM. Is it as easy as flashing recovery and then international ROM without radio? Does some of the bloat go away?

I use Tasker to customise my brightness. It works quite well and you set up for your own personal use.

Hi,
I'm new to smartphones so excuse my lack of knowledge but why do you need an app for making your phone a WiFi hotspot when the S3 has the ability to do it already? Is it be because I am on Rogers (Canada). Maybe I'm missing something here?

SGS3 from iOS

I am a longtime android user, own all nexus devices, etc.
My brother is thinking about making the jump from iPhone to an sgs3, should he stay on touchwiz or should I help him get a stable ROM on there? Maybe AOKP jellybean?
Suggestions and opinions/experiences appreciated.
I'd say stock for a bit then later aokp. Let him get a taste of both worlds...
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium
Agree. Flashing a frequently updated ROM might be a bit much for an iPhone user, and touchwiz is friendly enough!
I'd say stock w/ either Apex/Nova launcher
I say let him run stock, maybe if he wants a luncher on top of it, but if coming from iOS I would let him run TW fully there are some really cool features in TW that he will enjoy so much .
I say run stock for a few months, or until he is throughly annoyed by touch wiz. Then start flashing. Let him get used to how Android works, the menus, eyv before throwing custom stuff at him. If he doesn't know how it's SUPPOSED to work, he won't know when it DOESN'T work on a custom.
Personal opinion but no god awful touchwiz...and with the USSD bug goin around even more reason for me to never ever reccommend anyone use it
You say you have all the Nexus devices, so I'm assuming that means the Galaxy Nexus? How about letting him use your Nexus and you get an S3? That way he can get used to pure Android without having to root.

Aren't alot of features that come on the GSIII tied into TW? I haven't switched to AOKP on this phone but ran it on my GSII. There are things you have to give up by going AOKP or CM.

Like crap battery life, 26 hrs plus on AOKP. Lol. There are TW features that are missing (certain camera features come to mind). But to the point of the OP, if you haven't used TW much, you won't miss them. Yes, AOKP/CM10 are updated frequently, but you don't have to update unless you want to. If the build you are on is stable, battery life is great and you're happy, don't update. I flash every update, my wife is on an early August build. For a person new to the S3, I would stay stock for a month (30 day return policy). If they're happy, leave it alone. If the battery sucks, root it, load Titanium Backup, and kill all the S-crap and carrier bloat. It should be a learning process, done in steps. Android is fun and there are so many options, which (to me) is why it is better than IOS. Too many people rush into custom ROM's without acquiring the basic knowledge of how Android works.

Wifi Tether works AOSP, all third party tether apps are broken with JB
I can't speak for all but wifi tether did work for me on 3g only (not wimax) for 4.1.2 on the e4gt.
What benefit would I see over a ROM like, for instance, the "Why Not ROM" which has things like pen support and multiview and S voice, All share, Samsung wifi transfer, etc, and ALSO removes all the bloatware. The only thing I don't use is Touchwiz (I use Nova instead) on the Samsung ROM. I say this also considering that at the point where we are on a quad core 1.6 ghz ROM... "speed" isn't really an issue.
What am I missing from the Samsung ROM that I would gain with an AOSP ROM, without losing the things I mentioned above and more?
What's the gain here?

Yes. I have the Epic 4G also with 4.1 on it *great phone*, and once they stopped supporting at 2.3...I moved on past a Samsung ROM (they still don't have the camera right though [a bit choppy] ).
But in this case, the phone is so advanced and specific, the only thing I see missing here is wireless tether, which I guess will be solved eventually.
For now, the loss of all of these other things is not worth a jump to an AOSP ROM for me. To each their own though.

I also have a Epic that I really enjoyed once I had the CM9/10 rom on it, and I am keeping it around as a spare / wifi voip burner phone. I guess for me tethering is mission critical since I live in an area that does not have any high speed internet option (no cable/DSL, nothing), and I rely on my phone for access at my house. So the first ROM that is stable and has tethering will get my donation.

International I9505 Rom working on T-Mobile S4 M919!!

So I went ahead and flashed the i9505 Wanam Rom from here and it works great on my M919. The rom doesn't have a modem so I figured it would be safe and sure enough it was. Here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2283194
No wipe is required either. I simply flashed it using CWM and I now have a GT-I9505 model with all T-Mo bloatware gone! I really like the blue dialer on this too!
You will get reboot notifications, to remove that simply download "Bloatware Freezer" from Playstore and freeze the app called SEAndroid. That should take care of it.

No Tmo features...obviously.
Yes, a lot of people don't realize their options for goodies go beyond just the specific m919 forum. Check out the general international S4 I9505 forums. It's were I spend most my time.
Development is lagging for the m919 variant. There are only a few ROMs & choices, with slow updates.... and plenty of time has passed since release, so I'm not sure how much better it will get. It's the one negative part about Sammy devices....fragmentation of the same model. It would be nice to see a majority of elite Devs working on the same model....like the One.
MANY of the mods/themes/ROMs etc...work great with our device. The radio is the only difference between various 9505 models.
Cheers!
Awesome. But who puts a modem in custom roms now days? Lol Now that I can see that this phone is actually the same hardware as the international we can have roms from there too..... In this case if a leak of a newer android update comes out we can have it port over. And not wait for tmobile,,,
If that the case than AT&T, VERIZON, AND SPRINT can be ported all like on the s3 but the fun part is the even international too
I hope this all works so far I'm very happy with wicked but more options are never a bad thing

lol give us more time, mate. would you rather we release untested ROMs? i'm sure there are a number of us floating around here that have a ROM we can put out right this second but it is good practice to test first and ensure there are no issues. this can take a little bit. i myself am in testing phase. maybe the phone has been out a while, but i personally have only had one for 2 and a half weeks. a lot of stuff in the other sections will be ported over. i have to get a good working and stable base out first before i start adding in more tweaks that will seemingly overwhelm most typical users.
also, please be weary of flashing an entire ROM from i9505 section. if there are CSC bits contained within it, you won't have a signal like you're supposed to.
Totally agree with the previous poster. These things take time to make.
With that said this is good news. Hopefully, we can get a dev to port these over with TMO features & Csc files.
I know AT&T GN2 had an awesome dev that ported Int GN2 over with options for TMO, AT&T & Canadian carriers.

Any ROM made for I9505, you can use. Make sure the ROM doesn't have a modem baked into it (ROMs usually don't, but you must make sure). You will then have to download and app called "Bloatware Freezer" from Play Store and freeze the system app called 'SEAndroid'

Works great, even support video call like you see in the Korean dramas. Too bad no US provider supports that
Any way if we manually added or flashed the T-Mobile bloat we could use visual voicemail at least?
Also do you feel that the battery life and overall performance is better in these ROMs?
Can we still use 4g/ 4g lte with these ROMs automatically or do we need to mess with the APN to a certain extent?
Thank you. I am considering flashing because I'm loving those ROMs and themes in the international forums especially that dark android theme that doesn't work well with our phones

Thought something like this was kernel based. Custom kernels for the htc one have this ability.

I had PGM on my galaxy nexus.... after getting used to it, it really really hard to live without this feature (especially after a few failed hardware buttons on phones in the past). Alongside the on-screen buttons, my phone required no hardware button pressing.
This is the one feature I will go to the ends of the earth looking for, and unfortunately I have yet to find anything like this for the S4. The reason this is such an obscure feature is because it requires low level kernel+hardware development, and from what I have heard from ponery and other devs, getting the kernel and screen to listen for specific screen input /w a corresponding kernel module (while keeping battery drain at an acceptable level) requires very very specific hardware and boatloads of very extensive, tricky, and sensitive development.
I wish someone would make something like this for the S4 (if ponery did I would jump for joy), and I would pay good money for it too.
It would have been really awesome if samsung would have included this type of feature alongside airview (and made sure they were both really really polished.... like an open airview api out-of-the-box), instead of the dumpster full of gimmicky garbage they did include.

I don't see how it's so serious. It's just tapping the display twice to wake the device. How complicated is it?

I don't mean to bother but I asked a few months ago how you got the app working on your s4. You said you downloaded something else to do it? I've been looking everywhere for this.
I know I would need a kernel as well so what kernel did you get with it?

Don't think I ever said I got it working. The description at the time said it was compatible (which it doesn't now) but after installing the app I needed to install some extra module which is only for nexus which made it useless for me.
Guys newbie here... found someting about knock on feature...
Its on ExperimentalX kernal but its not for our device hope so it can be ported buy developers.
