I know I can set certain behaviors with apex launcher using a desktop double tap which resembled the "knock knock" feature. Sleeping and waking the phone isnt one of them though.
They had an app for the Nexus line called "PGM Nexus" that had the exact same function. Maybe you could ask those guys for a similar mod for the S4?

I had PGM on my galaxy nexus.... after getting used to it, it really really hard to live without this feature (especially after a few failed hardware buttons on phones in the past). Alongside the on-screen buttons, my phone required no hardware button pressing.
This is the one feature I will go to the ends of the earth looking for, and unfortunately I have yet to find anything like this for the S4. The reason this is such an obscure feature is because it requires low level kernel+hardware development, and from what I have heard from ponery and other devs, getting the kernel and screen to listen for specific screen input /w a corresponding kernel module (while keeping battery drain at an acceptable level) requires very very specific hardware and boatloads of very extensive, tricky, and sensitive development.
I wish someone would make something like this for the S4 (if ponery did I would jump for joy), and I would pay good money for it too.
It would have been really awesome if samsung would have included this type of feature alongside airview (and made sure they were both really really polished.... like an open airview api out-of-the-box), instead of the dumpster full of gimmicky garbage they did include.

I don't mean to bother but I asked a few months ago how you got the app working on your s4. You said you downloaded something else to do it? I've been looking everywhere for this.
I know I would need a kernel as well so what kernel did you get with it?

Don't think I ever said I got it working. The description at the time said it was compatible (which it doesn't now) but after installing the app I needed to install some extra module which is only for nexus which made it useless for me.

I use "long-press home" second to only the search button, probably.

Ok, I guess I'm dense: I've used ICS for a bit on this device with a couple of the international betas. I've also used the ICS launcher from TeamSyndicate or whatever...
Please lmk what is so groundbreaking and so different in the way ICS handles taskswitching..
If I remember correctly (and I easily might NOT be remembering this right), all ICS does is present your recent apps in a nicer, larger, vertical list after pressing the button for it once instead of the way Gingerbread handles it (presenting them in a grid after long-pressing home).
If there's more to it, please let me know.
If there's not, then you basically started a thread that's complaining about the fact that you have to long-press a button right now, and that you really can't wait until you only have to simply press a button, because that would make your life so much easier.
Did I miss something?

task switching is awesome in Ics

Yup pretty much. Also there arr settting. In launchers that can enable. Up to 16apps or something to be listed in that menu. Same thing, just a few more appz and it looks slightly different. How ever ICS does ring lots of new things in a ALL IN ONE download that plays nicelu with each other. Before you would have to flash several things and spe. D some serious time changing settings to get what ICS already offers which in its self is awesome. Especially for people who have a line and cant always takr the time to flash tons of things and config the more mods everytime a rom requires you to wipe data which gets old really damn quick in my book. Maybe im just getting older or i have owned android too long but i dont like re setting my phone back up. I didnt use to mind it and now i dread it. Atleast even when switxhing between different roms on samsung for the most part you never need to wipe data. In that respect compared to HTC i find Samsung much better and that makes the device worth it right there. With HTC you would loose everything all the time when flashing new roms or even updates. Not to mention you would loose things like your WiMax key's and have to get a nee device just to use Sprints ****ty 4g agan.... Hahaa ok ok its not that funny, more sad about HTC but laughing is how i cope with terrible old memoryz

Im so dyslexic i had to fly to a neigboring island every single day to go to a school to specially for dyslexic kids. I cant help it. I do spell check but i dont see words the same as normal people. You guys are dumb and mean. I even tried using auto correct on my Swift X keyboard but i often spell words so off it outs in some completely different word than i want so it ended up being harder to read than if i dont use it. You shouldnt judge people when you dont know whag personal challanges they have or whats going on with them. Just ignore me instead of insulting me. Im very proud of the challanges i have over come to the extent i have over come them. I have accomplished several things that teachers said i wouldnt be able to do. Things like reading and writing well enough to get through the basics of life. I have learned to build custom desktop computers, started my own VHS to DVD converting company and am a semi pro downhill and free style mountain biker. XDA is full of dicks that say things on here they would never say to some ones face. Get a life and treat people with the respect and love that you would like people to treat you. Then again you may not have much self respect or dignity by your actions of how you treat others.
Every time I try to open volume + it force closes. Is anyone else having this issue. If so, were you able to get it resolved? What steps did it take?

I can't say that I have any idea what is going on with the app you mentioned, but I do know that ICS introduced a number of changes that can cause apps to fail if they're not updated. I have an app that was crashing on ICS due to a new permission requirement. No code changes, just announcing a new permission in the manifest.
I'd get in touch with the developer. An email from a tech savvy user who can help with debugging can be quite useful. You'd be surprised by the number of people who think a market comment is useful for the developer. It's not.

I already have contacted the developer with the problem and offering my help. I hope you're correct.
The problem I am seeing is that so many people leaving reviews are leaving them from their galaxy nexuses and they almost all seek to have no problem with the app even though it specifically states it doesn't support any version of android other than gingerbread.

Well there you go. I don't know what the app does, maybe it's possible on other versions but maybe it's not.
Personally, I like to give people the option to try my program even if I think it might not work. Naturally, a lot of people then come back and say it doesn't work on X or Y. I could dramatically improve my ratings by excluding all devices that I know don't work, but I'd rather give people the option to try for themselves. Granted, most people are stupid and it's a wasted gesture, but still...
Not saying you're one of those users, just venting a bit. Sorry. If I could help you pull logs or something for the developer of that app just let me know

Wrong thread.
Bad question to ask.
Why? It can cause arguments, each phone works differently despite the general consensus, people are biased towards their favorite ROM (which can cause arguments), and you can only, truly know through personal experience with each ROM.
Thread reported.
Have a nice night.

^^ This.
Ive been looking for development on the LG Mach LS860, but I have not turned up anything besides a small thread just trying to gain support. I was wondering if any brilliant minds here knew if the LS860 is similar software or hardware wise to the OptimusG LS970? I know it has different specs, but I was hoping it would use the same chipset or similar software so that I could try using OptimusG root/unlocking techniques with a slimmer chance of destroying my phone. Haha (not worried about losing apps/contacts, just worried about having a bricked bootloader)
Thanks for any input in advance!
My justification for inquiring about this is the fact that they were released at the same time and have similar physical features, besides the Mach's physical keyboard.

Agreed! I've also felt like the S4 is a bit flimsy by comparison. When I hold my G Pro it feels solid and sturdy. When I hold my girlfriend's S4 it just feels light and cheap. Having all kinds of Dev and ROM support would be nice, but the LG Software isn't as bad as TW and we've got thecubed hard at work cracking the bootloader open.
Until Samsung steps up their build quality I'll be sticking with other manufacturers.

I seriously can't stand Touchwiz. For the first time in a long time the manufacturer UI on a phone doesn't really bother me. Rock on LG!
Seriously the only gripe I have is that the contacts app doesn't let me manually join contacts.

tap the contact, tap the menu button, tap join, tap the contact you wish to join.
Wow... I feel stupid.... I can't believe I missed that!
Thank you! I really appreciate the help!

When I do that it gives me a listed of suggested contacts to join. Its nice but not as robust as any other phone I've used. Basically if the name doesn't match between the different contacts it won't suggest joining them, and it doesn't give you an option to join manually. For example my mother. I have her contact listed as mom, but her Facebook profile is by her real name. It doesn't list her in suggested for this reason, so I can't join the two contacts.
I really appreciate the help

Well I've decided to keep all the phones( note 2, LG Optimus gpro, and the s4. I said I wasn't going to be that guy spending so much money on phones but it just kinda happened. Lol and now I can't make up my mind...damn you cell phone manufactures.

I had the S4 and I sold it and bought the G Pro and love the G pro Better because the more customization and that cool led notification around the home button I rooted, but I will probably never put a custom rom on it:good:
You can't because there's nothing available. I have both phones and I gotta say that I hate not being able to install custom roms. Also when it comes to updates, LG sucks. It took over a year for LG to release ICS for Thrill. Even then, the ROM still sucks and still outdated. It's slow as hell. The OGP has somewhat up to date ROM now, but I'm afraid that it'll be stuck at 4.1.2 forever while the S4 is enjoying the unannounced 4.3.
Just because it's leaked doesn't mean it'll get 4.3 anytime soon. As for this phone, better than the rest in my opinion. Gs4 is good but I couldn't stand the lag and even though had custom Rom on it I couldn't help but be annoyed by the samoled screen, especially after owning the nexus 4. Regardless of when we will get custom roms, this phone is still badass the way it is. Stock Rom updates, who needs em? Majority of us are going to install custom anyways and those we don't want to do custom just root.
This phone is the ****!

If TouchWiz is annoying and you want a solution without a root check Nova launcher out.

Touchwiz encompasses more than just the launcher. It's the theme of the settings, SMS, browser... the default icons. I just don't care for it. It feels web 1.0 on a web 2.0 world

WTF are you talking about? S4 is already running 4.3 Google Edition. If you mean OGP won't get it anytime soon then I can totally understand.
