|Q| Root and unroot

hello, i got samsung galaxy s2 and im welling to buy g3 because finally i found the perfect phone for me.
the thing is i dont know much about lg root method. im used to the root methods on samsung
can i root the lg g3 d855 without any problems and can i unroot it so i can got updates ?
i know that sony got problems with the root the phone became weaker, samsung got the knox so so basically unroot doesnt help is there anything same with lg ?

Rooting the phone is really easy, infact you can do it without even using a PC (towelroot). At the moment there is no custom recovery, but hopefully we will see that change once the phone is released in more countries (later this week).
As for unroot, one simple method would be to re-flash stock, but I assume you are looking for an easier solution than that.

That's what I am looking for too because of the bloody Barclays Bank app.
I want to root my LG G3, block ads, bloatware etc and then unroot to get Barklays app working
S4min, Grand 2, Note 2 - I always rooted phones and then unrooted by uninstalling root in SuperSu app.
Is there any similar method for LG G3?
Re-flashing to unroot doesn't make sense for me cos I will loose everything I needed the root for

i dont care if its easy or not the thing is can i unroot it and still use the warranty without known that i had root before ?
and another question, i read that there is boatload and its difficult to root is it true ? what is this boatload ?

I don't have my G3 yet to check (and not sure I will be rooting it straight away when I do get it, I want to see how far I can go without root first), but I cannot see why the unroot method in SuperSU would not work.

Flashing back to stock should take you back as if you have never rooted. Assuming all you did was root the phone.
If/when there are further modifications such as unlocking bootloader and flashing custom recovery images this might change.

Few questions about rooting.

Hi, I got the lg g4 H-815 , android version 5.1 and v10c software. I want to root the phone because i want to flash roms and kernels to get a better performance.
, but im confused will all the guides, therefore i got some questions i would really appriciate if someone answers them.
1. Do i have to unlock bootloader in order to gain root access and flash roms etc?
2. What is the most easiest and reliable guide to root the phone?

Root is not needed for flashing ROMs, what is needed is TWRP and unlocked bootloader, when the bootloader is locked it means that it will not boot up if it detects that you flashed 'stuff' unsigned by LG - custom ROMs! Anyway if you only want to root it and you don't mind of MM, you can root it on LP without unlocking the bootloader. Although, if I was on your place I would hold on a minute and checked my serial number first because it is more likely that your phone can die at any minute, independently of what you are actually doing on your phone... G4 is a ticking bomb, when mine fell into a bootloop (it's not like a bootloop when you flash something wrong, the phone is like dead ), since I have unlocked my bootloader LG refused to repair it so many times... They just gave my number to SBE and said that they will repair my phone if I pay, guess what, these idiots refused as well. About 3 times tho. So I was on my own, after a month I managed to make my phone work(ish). I'm not saying I fixed it because this is unfixable. I just made it work. Not fully functional tho, at least it will last I'll buy a new phone, and no more LG for me. And I would recommend you to have a think about doing this stuff. If you have warranty they will replace it immediately, but if not you'll need to fight them up, as I am going to. PSST, you can still root it on LP without losing the warranty, remember!!

AT&T V410 Root Idea

Hey everyone,
I apologize in advance if this is breaking any forum rules or if it's a super noob question, but here goes.
I've got a stock AT&T V410 running Lollipop (had I known it would be such a hassle to root, I would've stayed on KitKat).
It's no longer under warranty so I'm thinking about rooting. Unfortunately, the only option that might work is KingRoot. Taking into consideration the possible "shadiness" of KingRoot, here is my idea:
1) Remove microSD and factory reset my V410. This is to have as little info on my V410 as possible before running KingRoot. If I can, I'll even skip adding my Google account.
2) Run KingRoot and see if the root is successful.
3) If successful, install Flashify and flash TWRP (which version should I flash?)
4) If not successful, do another factory reset and continue using my V410 like before.
5) After successfully flashing TWRP, I'll probably do another factory reset, if necessary, to have a clean OS without KingRoot.
6) With TWRP installed, I should be able to make a backup of my current V410 OS, right? I'd like to have this in case I try out CM and want to go back.
I think that's it. Assuming KingRoot can root my V410, does everything here seem viable? I know when I unlocked the bootloader on my OPO it basically did a factory reset anyway, but I want to be safe with KingRoot.

Won't work. The lollipop bootloader can't be unlocked, and I'm not aware of any exploits. TWRP won't boot. Stay on the lollipop bootloader and you're stuck with kingroot, stock rom, and stock recovery to the best of my knowledge.
I have heard of some methods to try to swap kingroot for supersu once you gain root, but I've also heard of that making a colossal mess with this tablet. Never dug into it, but I suspect supersu attempts to patch the boot image, messes up the signature, then the tab won't boot due to the locked bootloader.
The kitkat bootloader was locked too, but it was susceptible to the bump exploit that let us sign our own boot images.
If you're interested in TWRP and custom roms there is a route to downgrade back to the kitkat bootloader, but it sounds like a giant hassle.
Another random thought, there is a way to enable fastboot on this tablet (you would need root to do it). This method is for the LG G2, but it works fine on my V410. Maybe you could extract the partition images from the kdz in that thread linked above and flash them manually with fastboot instead of LG Flashtool, and get back to kitkat without making such a mess of the internal storage. Disclaimer: I haven't tried this and it could end poorly!!! :silly:

Good to know that even if I could root my V410, I wouldn't be able to unlock the bootloader, which is my whole reason for rooting. And yeah, current methods to downgrade to KitKat seems like a real pain; for the time being it seems like I shouldn't mess with what works

VS985 (VZW LG G3) hardware problems thinking of buying a G4 VS986

I am screwing around with my VS985 G3 but I have random / phantom screen touches and the top 20% of the screen doesn't register touches properly anymore. I just tried doing a factory reset thinking it might be software problem but it still seems to have the same issues (23C) when hard reset. Soooo, I am considering moving up to the G4, but the main thing I don't want to lose is the unlimited hotspot data since I still have the old unlimited plan and use it frequently as a hotspot for devices in the house. So I needed root to install the hotspot mod and want to make sure I can root any G4 I wind up purchasing.
What are the requirements for a rootable G4? Are there firmware versions that are not downgradable via kdz/tot method? Should I ask before purchase for a device that is on firmware XX or lower to ensure downgrade capability?
From what I understand the G4 is the end of the line for unlocked bootloader devices, correct? I don't have any other internet options at my location so the unlimited data through VZW is critical to me at this point thus I can't live w/out the root access on my device.
Any recommendations or help is appreciated!

I was hoping someone could just advise about firmware level that allows downgrade? I am reading up on the G4 but not sure yet what version of firmware or > prevents downgrades. My preference would be to buy a phone I can downgrade to 13B and run a custom ROM. Now looking more closely at the "android development" forum for G4 I see there really aren't any custom ROMS for G4. Is this because G4 is a locked bootloader?
In the meantime I determined my G3 screen really does have a problem so ordered a replacement, so I'll try that since I was able to downgrade that to 10B and so should be able to keep that running with custom ROM's until I decide what I want to do to upgrade. I do see that hotspot mod is actually available on G4 with 13B root. I'm just concerned about buying a G4 which won't allow downgrade so hoping to get an answer about that.

The verizon G4 has a locked bootloader so no custom ROMs here, but you can certainly root. I just recently downgraded from the latest firmware to 13b rooted and as far as I know there is no firmware version that blocks downgrading via LGUP. However, If hardware problems is what your trying to avoid than stay far far away from the G4. It has a long history of hardware faults and I personally have lost 2 G4s due to hardware failure.

Thanks Justa. So it looks like I'm just better off sticking with the G3. So far the hardware has been fine, just hoping replacing the screen does the trick.
So I guess everything after the G3 has a locked boot loader?

H736 - is there any way to root it?

My sister has pretty uncommon G4s variant known as H736. It comes preinstalled with Marshmallow.
She asked me to root it, so she could move apps to SD card. I never rooted any LG, but I tried.
First, I checked for bootloader unlock on LG website. If it would give me fastboot code, that would be 5 minutes of work. But it's unsupported... So I need to work with locked bootloader.
Second, I looked around XDA and found root method for H735 (https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/lg-g4s-world-root-lg-devices-t3231759). Because it's almost identical with H736, I tried it. But it didn't work - I did read that it's only compatible with Android 5.1.1 and is broken after upgrade to 6. But H736 comes with 6 preinstalled so... I'm just afraid of installing software from one phone onto another.
Third thing I tried - low effort root (https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4...t-tmo-vzw-intl-variants-soon-root-lg-t3164765). After reflashing rooted system, phone was stuck on LG logo and red LED turned on. Nothing happened in few hours, so I reflashed original system.
I also tried flashing Magisk-patched boot, but it ended the same way.
So is there any way to root this phone? Maybe some exploit, or some way to workaround my issues with low effort root? I don't want to mess with King/Kingo thingies, cause it's known to steal things like IMEI...
