Hi, I got the lg g4 H-815 , android version 5.1 and v10c software. I want to root the phone because i want to flash roms and kernels to get a better performance.
, but im confused will all the guides, therefore i got some questions i would really appriciate if someone answers them.
1. Do i have to unlock bootloader in order to gain root access and flash roms etc?
2. What is the most easiest and reliable guide to root the phone?
Sorry for my English.
Root is not needed for flashing ROMs, what is needed is TWRP and unlocked bootloader, when the bootloader is locked it means that it will not boot up if it detects that you flashed 'stuff' unsigned by LG - custom ROMs! Anyway if you only want to root it and you don't mind of MM, you can root it on LP without unlocking the bootloader. Although, if I was on your place I would hold on a minute and checked my serial number first because it is more likely that your phone can die at any minute, independently of what you are actually doing on your phone... G4 is a ticking bomb, when mine fell into a bootloop (it's not like a bootloop when you flash something wrong, the phone is like dead ), since I have unlocked my bootloader LG refused to repair it so many times... They just gave my number to SBE and said that they will repair my phone if I pay, guess what, these idiots refused as well. About 3 times tho. So I was on my own, after a month I managed to make my phone work(ish). I'm not saying I fixed it because this is unfixable. I just made it work. Not fully functional tho, at least it will last I'll buy a new phone, and no more LG for me. And I would recommend you to have a think about doing this stuff. If you have warranty they will replace it immediately, but if not you'll need to fight them up, as I am going to. PSST, you can still root it on LP without losing the warranty, remember!!

Hi all
I recently purchased an LG G3 mobile and it is running lollipop 5.0 on o2 and I would like to change a few things 1. change the colour of that orange top in the messaging app - people have told me I need root for this so my question is:
What is the best and safest root process for me to use as I have never rooted before and havnt got a clue, I just do not want to break the mobile as its brand new. I don't want it to change any counters, timers, warrantys or do anything else and especially I do NOT want it to stop me getting OTA android updates
thank you hope somebody can help me cheers

Hi there.
As soon as you root any phone you immediately lose your warranty. However if you ever need to send it for repair, you can easily revert the process these days.
LG, unlike Samsung, has not what you call "timers" meaning a record if you have rooted and how many times you have flashed your phone so you are pretty safe on that aspect as LG cannot tell. Even on Samsung these days there are ways to revert the so called "timers" to null.
Once you root your phone you will also lose the capability of OTA's but as I said this can be easily undone...you unroot, update the OTA and root again. (if a root method is available for that specific version of OTA which usually is and if not it comes out usually in a few days/weeks)
Hope this clarifies your doubts.
***One word of advice: read, read and read. Rooting and flashing custom ROMS is fun and custom ROMS are way better than stock. Just take your time to learn and don't be in a hurry. This way nothing will happen to your phone.
Hope this helps you and if I did please press the thanks button.

thank you very much for your info, so I shall just use the link posted about and root that way. Although I DO NOT intend to use a custom rom. one of the reasons I want to root is to get rid of the stupid Mcafee app that comes on the LG G3

Yes mate just follow that tutorial and you will be alright. Don't forget to read well first so that you will know what you are doing and nothing wrong will happen.
You don't have to install custom ROMS though. There are an immense amount of things you will be able to do to your phone once rooted.
Enjoy!
Getting root in a "warranty-save" way? (Questions about rooting by a htc-usr)
Hello,
I was asked by a friend to root his Z1 compact.
I myself have a HTC m7.
I can unlock my bootloader and flash a custom recovery + rom and if I need it returning to stock recovery+rom for warranty. (Even locking and removing "tampered"-flag in my bootloader.
The later one isn't even needed, since HTC would even give support with a tampered bootloader (at least in germany and when I had to use the warranty once).
Since the device of my friend still has warranty I am unsure if I should flash a whole new prerooted rom, or just use Kingroot (+tools)...
Is there a way to unlock and flash a recovery that can be undone for the use of warranty?
I have read a little into the forum, mostly about rooting and recovery.
Dualrecovery for locked bootloader seems to be that what I searching for, I think.
But I am not sure. (for my m7 I need to unlock first before installing recovery)
This would be the way I would do it, if it meets my requierments:

Someone willing to help me with my questions? (If it would be my phone, I would just try it. January isn't far away anymore and the battery was just replaced )
Thanks

Hey guys!
First I have to explain that I'm German and englisch is not my native language.
Second thing is, I'm a complete newbie to the whole smartphone/android stuff.
My Z1c was almost unused since I bought it. I'll need it for now and want to root it and have an actual, stable and secure system/ROM on it. Therefore I'm looking for an "easy" method to root and unlock the bootloader. (I never rooted a phone so far)
Tried KingoRoot and Towelroot but doesn't worked. Google only showed "old" methods, so I rather ask here before bricking.
If it's possible I would prefer an other method for unlocking the bootloader than the official/ legit via Sony HP...
Have a way more questions after rooting and unlocking. Be warned!
Edit: Is this (search4rootsdotcom) trustworthy?

Not sure why you don't want to use Sony unlocking method, and also can't imagine who besides Sony would have the unlock code. Once you have the code, you could use Flashtool to unlock, but you have to go through Sony to get the code.
If you do unlock bl, rooting is easy, via fastboot/adb. If bl is locked, Kingroot works, (not sure which version you tried, but latest version is proven to work - I've done it myself at least 3 times). Most people prefer not to use Kingroot as a permanent root manager, but once you're rooted, it's easy to switch to whatever you want.
Many stable and very good rooms to choose from.
Once you got yourself TWRP 3 running you have a lot of options to choose from.
I've been modding my Z1C for two years now and i'm positive that for normal usage AOSP roms don't make the cut, there have been multiple occasions with AOSP / CM roms where i had bugs with latest YouTube app versions, random shutdowns and over-average battery consumption in idle despite kernel tweaking which are all not present in stock-based roms. I was using a slightly modded 14.6.A.236 for most of 2015 until now which worked fine but i cluttered the phone too much so it became super slow and almost unusable. I've very recently backed up everything and clean-flashed DStrikerZ1 rom because it's the most-followed rom for the Z1C and i have to say i'm positively surprised by it's UX performance and overall style. Once i know how to fix my mobile network* i'll probably recommend it but until then you might just wanna flash stock .236, root and then de-bloat using TitaniumBackup (or whatever you prefer) which i know will definitely be bullet-proof.
By the way i'm also from Germany so feel free to hit me up for questions, i'll help where i can.
*Edit: Mobile network working, just had to mess with the internet service provider settings a bit. That makes DStrikerZ the best rom i've used so far on this phone.
Much appreciate guys!
I've got the unlock code and will do it tomorrow.
Read all over about absolutely making an TA-Backup BEFORE unlocking the bootloader cuz of loosing the Bravia Engine, DRM-Keys and Track-ID so I was uncertain....
Hi, I would like to root my Moto Z2 Play but I don't want to unlock bootloader, because all of my data will be actually formatted and I don't really want to set up things again.
With that, I would like to ask if there is any option to root my phone straight from Android UI.
So I don't have to use any PC to root this phone.
Edit:
Actually with rooting come on place one important question.
This question is about: Is the phone able to receive updates released by manufacturer to moto Z2 play?
I'm asking because when I was rooting my Samsung phones on every single of them when they are rooted they are unable to receive updates by manufacturer so I literally had to plug the phone into my PC and Force updated it via Samsung provided program (Kies).
This was really painful so I am asking just before I will actually root it because I want the stock ROM and all of its official updates.
So I'll be really thankful with any answer on that question.
To root you must unlock the bootloader.
And you will receive OTA's, but if you install those, the phone will most probably brick. So, don't even try to install them.
As long as there is no vulnerability found in Android 8 that could actually be used to root, there is no other way than to open the bootloader which enforces a factory reset.
But if rooted properly with Magisk and as long as you only boot TWRP but never install it, OTAs should work. At least the only reason for bricking I know is when you try to upgrade after a downgrade since the updater seems to not check the bootloader. And with a downgrade to a version with an older bootloader something goes haywire which bricks the device on next update and you'll need a blankflash to fix that
My sister has pretty uncommon G4s variant known as H736. It comes preinstalled with Marshmallow.
She asked me to root it, so she could move apps to SD card. I never rooted any LG, but I tried.
First, I checked for bootloader unlock on LG website. If it would give me fastboot code, that would be 5 minutes of work. But it's unsupported... So I need to work with locked bootloader.
Second, I looked around XDA and found root method for H735 (https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/lg-g4s-world-root-lg-devices-t3231759). Because it's almost identical with H736, I tried it. But it didn't work - I did read that it's only compatible with Android 5.1.1 and is broken after upgrade to 6. But H736 comes with 6 preinstalled so... I'm just afraid of installing software from one phone onto another.
Third thing I tried - low effort root (https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4...t-tmo-vzw-intl-variants-soon-root-lg-t3164765). After reflashing rooted system, phone was stuck on LG logo and red LED turned on. Nothing happened in few hours, so I reflashed original system.
I also tried flashing Magisk-patched boot, but it ended the same way.
So is there any way to root this phone? Maybe some exploit, or some way to workaround my issues with low effort root? I don't want to mess with King/Kingo thingies, cause it's known to steal things like IMEI...
