Anybody with questions about the speed of Calk's Rom, here it is. Not sure how this compares with other, more modern phones. Quadrant seems a bit out dated at the moment. This is at forced 1.6 ghz with the LoST kernel Exp build. I don't particularly trust the kernel that gets up to 1.8 ghz..

Try it with Renegade kernel.
It is extremely fast!
I'm loving it but I'm just wondering how to add TSMParts (such as multiple lockscreens like Starburst has or extended toggles). With those tweaks, this would be nearly perfect.

3g and wifi are internet speeds. Benchmarks are your cpu speeds. Neither wifi or 3g will affect the benchmarks.

You realize that none of these "fast" roms are actually faster than stock?
All of them use various tricks to improve the sd card score without affecting the cpu/gpu scores. Quadrant is a flawed benchmark susceptible to cheating that way.
None of those "high" scores truly translate to real world performance improvements.

Who gives a damn?
Kernels don't "go to" megahertz. Your hardware can either handle it or it can't.
Get any kernel which allows cpu voltage tinkering, and figure out your best speed.

First off bench scores are about the same with any Rom depending on the Kernel and they really mean nothing other then posting them.
I have and i am still on this Rom right now but all i get are reboots and when i do reboot my phone loops and i have to flash all over again.
And yes i wipe all before i flash.

CyanogenMod 10 was just released as stable for us, I believe soon enough they will develop and overclock kernel and we'll be all set.
However, does anyone think that a downgrade to HONO Full Throttle is worth it for the ability to overclock? From what I understand, it is a small OC of about 20% to 1.86Ghz. Does it really make that big of a difference?

If you want try it then make a backup and test it out. Full throttle is a step back and I prefer the JB ROMs. But its worth a shot. Just watch your battery stats with OCing, Typically a higher CPU uses more battery.

Full Throttle is my daily driver. It's a small OC but it's better than nothing. My Antutu score hit 7200 and my Quadrant averages 3750. I also OC the GPU even though its default is already OC'd. The battery on Full Throttle is FAR better than any JB ROM I've used, so far. On a normal day (txting, couple calls, browsing, ect) I get about 20+ hours w/ 3hrs of 'Screen On' time. It may be a downgrade, but it's best I've used. I also have my UV settings set to best battery life w/out causing reboots. Love Full Throttle! Patiently waiting for HO!NO! to commence dev work and see what else he has to offer.
EDIT: I just leave the OC stock @ 1728Mhz as well. I tried 1836 but after playing a game for a bit it overheats and reboots. Also doesn't pass a stability test @ 1836, but every phone seems different on what clock it can handle..
Okay, I've tried both.
From a very limited usage, I am going to conclude that CM10 stable is currently the better ROM. Being able to overclock ~20% on an older ROM does not actually match the performance boost of upgrading to a new, more efficient ROM. Now if only we had more developers for the Nitro.

Wait. So u asked today if it would be worth trying Full Throttle, and now you "have" and conclude cm10 stable is better simply b/c it's newer? JB is smoother, yes, but I seriously doubt you gave the Full Throttle ROM a proper run (2-3 days). My 4 days of cm10 "stable" was riddled with reboots and battery drain equal to about 7%/hr. Smooth, yes.
EDIT: If you haven't tried it, pA 2.5x is pretty cool. It's based on CM10 stable now. The battery life is horrible, but there wasn't any annoying reboots.

I beg to differ on the reboots... actually, no. I call them random shut-downs. Had 3 since flashing 2.55, but I'm still sticking with it. X0dus, I just don't understand how you get so much better battery life on FT than any of the CM10 variants. I'm not disputing it, I just don't get it. If anything, the experience I had as far as battery life goes was about equal. In fact, the best battery life I've gotten so far was on an earlier, buggier version of CM10.

Mother of God... that's absolutely insane. Even with the Hyperion extended battery I couldn't get that kind of time... I don't do much calls or texting, no games, but I do a good bit of web browsing. Even on FT I couldn't pull those numbers.
Although I did pull something like 1 day 6 hours on that CM10 version I mentioned earlier... had about 3 hours screen on time.. but again, extended battery.

Hi guys, I absolutely mean no disrespect to any developer, but nearly any rom I've tried so far with the exception of bonestock and eclipse not only "feels" a little slower, but scores about half of what it would be if I was on the stock rom.
Is this merely a side effect of running a rom the phone is not made for? As more roms are polished is it possible to meet or exceed stock performance?
All the roms I've tried so far score about 6,000 to 7,000, while stock would get about 12,500, for example.
Again, absolutely no disrespect to any developers as all work very hard to give us the choices we have today. I'm merely curious, is all.
Thanks!

I used to be a benchmark junkie too until I realized that a few hundred or thousand points in benchmarks had little to no effect on my user experience with a ROM as a whole. Furthermore, benchmark scores can be inflated. You can max out your specs for benchmark purposes, but are you really going to be using all cores on max speed with performance governor throughout the day? My guess is, likely not.
In regards to transitions in ROMs, you can always mess with the developer settings to reduce the animation time for a quicker, smoother transition. I prefer the .5x setting, but your preferences may vary.
I prefer custom ROMs over stock for their levels of customization. Nothing better than to be able to tweak my phone to my own liking. Stock ROMs usually don't have the little extras that make Android a truly personal and enjoyable experience.
Overall, it comes down to what you prefer. For some, its a stock or close-to-stock interface with great performance. Others may prefer a more customized ROM that may or may not sacrifice performance and compatibility, but suits their needs better.
TL;DR User experience is more important than benchmark scores.

I believe a recent Anandtech article mentioned that manufacturers, check for specific benchmarking apps and then optimize their running to get inflated scores. Stock Android, Motorola, and Apple don't have those checks and their benchmarks can be "trusted".
Besides benchmarking scores, does the phone itself just feel a bit slower for any of you guys when running custom roms? Like when you scroll in settings or in a Web browser, or opening an app?

I've read various threads where people discuss that the use of an AOSP-based ROM resulted in poorer radio performance, and some saying that this persisted even *after* flashing back to stock or other sense-based ROM. The latter is what is keeping me from trying out any of the AOSP-based ROMs available. I don't want to irreversibly worsen reception, because I really, REALLY hated dealing with that issue on my Galaxy Nexus.

You need to remember that AOSP roms are hacked together for phones that were never meant to run it. I'm not trying to discourage anyone from flashing those roms since that's up to reach person, but no AOSP rom will ever run as good as a Sense rom. It's just the nature of things.

I've yet to see any sense rom run better than a nightly, let alone a stable build (from a pure performance standpoint)
As far as the OP- Signals will be within 0-5db depending on the rom, and that's only because we're on a CDMA device with a closed source RIL.

I don't just mean signal. I mean in general. You will never find an AOSP rom for a non-nexus device that has everything working on par with the stock rom.
There are always things that are slightly buggy, or require some sort of hacky workaround or whatnot.

Some will say yes, but they are using the subjective "bars" and not the actual dBm to check ratings. I haven't noticed any change in signal when I used it in the past on CM and whatnot.
I've had terrible signal strength lately (using dBm numbers) and wondered if something was wrong with my phone until I read this. Are there any other threads discussing the issue and possible solutions? If I can't fix this I'm going to have to get back to a locked bootloader and S-on and swap the phone out. -110 signal as a norm just isn't cutting it.
I don't see the bog deal with the higher numbers. Here are my numbers on sense. They are no difference thsn what you are getting on aosp. One is in a better coverage are where the other is on the front. I notice no difference in performance of the data.
The higher number one had it jump to 116 but does not interfere with tethering. You can try to swap out your phone but doubt they will do it and most likely you live right on the edge of the 4g coverage. My pictures shows sense and those are the same numbers I got while on aosp.

A kernel developer back then did say flashing various roms could impact signal strength.

With my Nexus, I sat in a parking lot and went from one Rom to another, I noticed a difference in the numbers and surfing the web.
A kernel developer back then did say flashing various roms could impact signal strength.
I'll bet this topic has been discussed more times than we can count, but it's always nice to get a new perspective. Wouldn't you agree?
