parts for galaxy s3 L710 and how to replace them - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

as many of you may know the glass on the galaxy s3 l710 not sure about the other models is not drop proof I think its just a scratch resistance glass not drop resistance glass I've seen many of post and youtube videos where folks have dropped there phone including me. and get crazy quotes to replace it. so I went digging for other options. first a little over view on the hardware of the phone there is the glass, touch screen digitizer, middle chassis, components that sit on the back of the middle chassis including mother board etc. and then the back cover.
the below youtube video shows how to take phone apart, its not hard just make sure u have the right tools. (very fine phillips head screw drivers etc)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHELvmoX0NY
this video explains why its wiser to go with the replacement touch screen digitizer assembly replacement vs glass replacement if done wrong you can brake the digitizer so best bet go with the digitizer assembly replacement.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkQZHU-SRC8
now here is what I call the exciting part, I have been hearing crazy prices for the touch screen digitizer between 300 and 500 dollars which is funny to me because the phone does not cost that much so the link below is to a website that sells parts for the phone at a very low prices.
http://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale/...30&groupsort=1
I see as low as 112 bucks. I ordered from the alieexpress before some of them ship the tools you need to disassemble the phone. I well be ordering my touch screen digitizer screen for the l710 in a week or two I'll keep you posted on the switch out. I cant wait to get it done I know a couple of phone part venders in the mall who swear you need to go the route with the heat gone etc and they can do it for me for 300 dollars yea right lol

Do you know of a place to get parts for the E4GT? I have a perfectly functional E4GT but it has a broken digitizer. The outer glass itself doesn't even have a scratch

Galaxy Note Digitizer

Looking for a Digitizer for my note! I just broke it LCD looks fine and touch screens works perfect. Just need the front glass. But I don't have paypal so I can't buy on ebay!
You can't replace the front glass only. You need to purchase a complete display assembly including the glass, digitizer, AMOLED display, Wacom digitizer, home button and the frame. It costs around 250 dollars.

I'm a mobile device service tech too (I actually own the business) and you are correct. You have to replace the entire assembly. It is not possible to separate the screen and digitizer without damage... those people on eBay know full well that you can't and shouldn't be selling them.

You can if you have the right tools. I broke my digitizer awhile back and bought the digitizer only. Theres actually a thread around here. Only thing I didnt have was some good double sided tape that would have made everything alot easier.
The biggist issue on ebay with digitizer only are they dont come with preinstalled tape already attached. But a heat (blow dryer) and some good plastic(always only plastic) tools its not that difficult.
I had to purchase just the digitizer because when I cracked the screen, the full assembly wasnt available yet. Its not hard, just takes a little patience.
I eventually converted my note into a white version. Picture below is my old lcd with installed digitizer. I would still suggest to buy complete assembly. I have a guy on ebay that sells them pretty cheap and ships fast.
And daddymatt your missing out on some business.

Yeah the two parts are fused together. I read some stuff about cheap/fake gorrila glass units on ebay so I sent mine straight to Samsung for repair. Cost 180$ including shipping to and from. Even the "oem" screen digitizers cost 200–300 on Amazon or cell repair sites.

Yeah it took a good week. It looks and feels like brand new. They even replaced the button at the bottom. And about the comment of just getting good a refurbished one in return... Check your serial afterward. I got my original phone back. And to folks who offer to fix these my main concern is genuine oem parts. Some ppl have said after they fix there's the phone simply doesn't feel like it's oem state.
Dose anyone know if I can replace only the digitizer?? All the tutorials I see online is replacement of LCD and Digitizer..
Digitizers are $25 on ebay Digitizer and LCDs are over $200...
After further investigation I found out why you can't replace just the glass..

Acutally there are several tutorials on just replacing the screen. It is a bit tedious and will require patience but is very doable. From all I see, the outer metal/chrome/etc frame is part of the digitizer is and will not be part of the screen only replacement. Screen assemblies alone are around $30 on Ebay

YOU CANNOT JUST REPLACE THE GLASS OR JUST REPLACE THE LCD! THEY ARE FUSED TOGETHER!
IN ORDER TO UNFUSE THEM YOU NEED AN OVEN DESIGNED JUST FOR THAT DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DO IT ON YOUR OWN!
Buying just the glass is a scam and will not work!!!!!!!! YOU MUST BUY THE GLASS WITH THE LCD FUSED TO IT ALREADY!

Screen replacement

Hey I just recently broke my screen and I bought my phone last july. Its not completely broken but its shattered most of the screen and its incredibly annoying. Is there anyway I could get a new phone or get a cheap screen replacement within 30-50$ range? Or should I just go ahead and get a new phone?

Check out this thread for replacing your screen
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1945494
I highly recommend against trying to replace just the glass. That is what I tried to do, but the LCD is glued to the digitizer which is glued to the glass. I didn't use enough heat and though I got through the edge tape holding the glass to the frame, I shattered the digitizer and LCD as well as busted through the menu buttons.
If you think you can do it, go for it. Not real tool intensive, but there will be lots of heat and the success rate is probably 50/50.
The next step from that is to replace the whole LCD/DIGITIZER/GLASS. But that will set you back around $200. Same process, but you pretty much scrape the glass, digitizer and LCD from the metal frame. Lots of effort, lots of time, and little pieces of glass flying everywhere.
For about the same price, get the FRAME/LCD/DIGITIZER/GLASS asssembly. It only requires removing a few screws, unhooking a couple of cables, and replacing the hole front end. It can be done with care in about 15 minutes.
If you do that, be sure you get the right model number. If you are on AT&T in the US, you'll need the i747. The i9300 may come up a few bucks less, but it's not compatible. Color doesn't matter - you can change now, if you want.
The biggest disadvantage of removing the glass only is the risk of getting dust inbetween the LCD and the glass front. With the other two methods, the LCD/DIGITIZER/GLASS are already fused together. However, if you pull it off, no one will ever know you messed with it, and the warranty cheat won't be tampered with as it will be with a frame replacement.
According to the other post, you are still 13 months from an upgrade. That means around $450 to replace your S3 and $630 if you want to go the S4. For less than half that, you can get the frame replaced. I might even suggest that once you replace the frame, you spend that $10 to replace the glass and try it without any fear of consequences on the one you remove. If you do it well, you might could sell that assembly for $150-$200.
Good luck!
i9300 screen (no frame) will fit i747 frame
can you advise if a i9300 screen (no frame) will fit i747 frame? Mine is 747, I can see lots of posts on Ebay for screens with both 9300 and 747 compatible. Want to make sure before order.

Lcd, digitizer, and glass are all identical except color. Once you see the word "frame", the model matters.
I just recently did this successfully. The key is a good source of heat and patience. I used a heat gun and it took me about thirty minutes to do. There are screens you can order that come with the little tools to use. Start heating it slowly and use the tools to take the glass off. Heat it until its relatively easy to get the glass off but do not over heat it! Keep going until all the glass is off. Once its off, apply some sticky tape (or you can use the tape that was already on the phone if you don't destroy it) and it will be good to go. Make sure that you take the protective paper off the glass you ordered.
Should you have any issues feel free to PM me.

Repairing a cracked screen

Well search is down at the moment, so here goes: I have an Optimus G that finally met it's demise. My glass screen is completely shattered but the image underneath is still clear and no discoloration. Obviously it doesn't respond to touch anymore. Do I only need to purchase a digitizer to do the repair or should I get the digitizer+lcd replacement? I just need a simple clarification.
Digitizer and lcd. The lcd on a factory phone is 'glued' to the Digitizer I believe. I couldn't get the lcd off my original evo anyway

He might as well. Although I'm sure you can heat and remove the glass to attach a new glass if the LCD is still good, the price on the glass for the LGOG is a bit steep as its not just a piece of glass, its also the digitizer. A big difference from a Galaxy. I can easily get a glass for my Note at like 10-20 bucks and just glue it on and be all set. That is not the case for the Optimus G, the glass works as the digitizer which I'm assuming why it's a bit expensive.
Edit: I just looked into it some more and it definitely is a complicated task. In all the how to vids they replaced the whole thing, glass and LCD. I guess that's why it's hard to find just the glass. Most sellers sell the glass and LCD together already.
Edit # 2: I finally found just the glass for $38. It actually was 80 last night but I guess the seller dropped the price.
http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=181219758562
^^^That's what you need. However if you do attempt it be aware that there's no how to videos on separating the glass from lcd. So after heating up the phone to remove it from the housing you're more than likely going to have to reheat the screen again to begin the glass/LCD separation. Oh and you might need some LOCA adhesive and a UV light to bond the new glass in.

i bought a cheap one from china, the ones without the LG logo on top, and it sucks. There is like a small strip that doesnt respond to the touch, its fine because i didnt notice until i started playing with "sketchbook mobile" but still. and it you look at it at an angle through the light its not smooth and perfectly straight like the original one, AND when you tap SLIGHTLY hard .. you see that liquidy effect ... not cool! .. not annoying either .. just a heads up if you do decide to fix it>

Nice that looks legit, please post back and let me know how long it took to receive it and what your thoughts are on it.
Will be ordering Thursday, there are four color options. I have the white, I'm going to do the black glass, with the white and chrome and black back I think.
That will look good,I have the white s3,black s4,white s5, I use all dark backgrounds if there's an option and dark wallpapers with the black note4, it just looks nicer to me, that's why I got black this time, but I'd put the white back on myn,I actually never saw the white one in person to be honest I'll have to take a look.

Got pics?
How did it turn out and where did you get the parts?
I don't have pics, I sold it literally the moment it was fixed. But I can say, the kit was 11.95 with amazon prime shipping. It was for the 910. The glass was cheap, but usable and came with tools. This lit used double sided tape, not loca and the glass didn't have a logo. I two toned it. I thought it would look better but just looked like knock off. But hey my buddy slapped down $690 and said he wants it so no complaints
Basically the concept is heating the glass so the adhesive between the digitizer and glass can be loose or let's say workable. I did this on my Galaxy Note 1 but kinda screwed up a bit. Trying to separate the glass from the digitizer is a pain on the butt because with what ever you use to separate it you can also risk scratching the digitizer. Also do not overheat as it can mess your screen up bad. Let's say all the job is cleanly done and you separated the glass still with the adhesive on the digitizer, put the new glass on the screen and with the heat gun/hair dryer put some heat on the glass to get the adhesive back to stikn mode. This is a simple but yet risky fix. In my experience with a new phone I'd pay the amount to get the screen fixed though idiots here in Georgia will try to rip you off saying you need a new digitizer as well. Hope it gives you a bit of info though look for vids about this before attempting on your own note 4
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using XDA Free mobile app
They give you a clear wire between two rings to separate the screen. It was quite easy. Bunch of glue left over but rubbing alcohol and a light touch took care of that. The trick was to have someone else heating as you slowly work it. I think the fix would of looked a bit better with loca I feel.
