[Q] What apps can be removed safely? - HTC One V

Hi all,
I´m thinking about installing a custom Sense Rom again and I wonder, what apps can be removed without risk.
What Google or HTC apps can be deleted (with Titanium Backup) without touching the following mandatory functions for me:
- WiFi
- mobile Date
- Phone/SMS/MMS
- Bluetooth
- clock with alarm&timer
- GPS (i use Nike+ app)
- Exchange Email (Mail/Contact/Calender)
- Google Play Store and the ability of installing apps
- Camera (Foto/Video)
- Plackbay Music and Video
All other apps/functions are not relevant for me.
Is there a list of needed apps I better don´t touch?
Thanks for your support!
Bye

[App] SwitchMe needs some i9000 testers

Hi everyone. Im one of the developers of SwitchMe, and app that allows multiple secure logins into separate installations of android on a single device. The pr is after the break.
I really need a few people to check into some issues people on the original galaxy s have been experiencing. There are some warnings involved:
- testers must perform a full nandroid backup before using the app, it is not our responsibility if you start getting boot loops
- if you report results or bugs, please use the "Write to us" function in the app whenever possible, and always describe the issue in the header of the logs you send
- if you post here, bes sure to include your device type and rom
- if you have apps installed on sd, be sure to mention that as well
--------------------------------------------------------------------
SwitchMe is a unique application for root users that allows you to log in and out of multiple installations of Android just as you would on a desktop computer.
The technology behind SwitchMe saves all of your applications and data, protects it and stores it as a file in memory. You can then log out of an
account and log into a fresh installation of Android or another account with its own unique content.
You may create as many profiles as the memory is capable of holding. Some of these may require very little free memory because they contain few apps,
others will be larger as they contain many applications and lots of cache and data.
Why is this functionality useful?
Privacy - the most obvious benefit is that you can securely share one device among multiple users, which gives you privacy and peace of mind.
Testing - if you are a developer, you can use profiles as clean sandboxes to test your applications and their interaction with the system.
Gaming – with multiple installations of Android on a single device, you can now play online MMOs as different characters.
Speed - the games your kids play slow down your tablet, but with SwitchMe you can easily create profiles without games or instant messengers.
Battery life - when the battery is low but there are important emails or documents to edit later, switch to a profile which only contains these essentials.
These of course are only suggestions - there are plenty of other uses for the functionality SwitchMe offers.

The Lite version allows the creation of two profiles, enough to test on.

Rom : simplicity 2.2.1
1st try , cloning the default profile,
Now i can switch to the cloned profile n i do all below
-Uninstall some app,
-delete call logs,
-delete some sms
-change to flight mode.
Then , switch back to default profile,
-all app are still there,
-call logs are deleted,
-deleted sms also gone in default profile
-and it remains in flight mode
Then i switch back to cloned profile,
-all previously uninstalled app, still there, but i cant run them
Then i switch back to default profile, everything fine.
Next, i delete the cloned profile, and make a new fresh profile, and switch to new profile. Everything just like when first flash Simplicity.

-all app which not come with Simplicity have black icon with SD on it.
-all sms still there
-all contacts gone

Try wiping the cache after first booting into a new profile. We are considering adding this as a feature.
By the way, the app currently only supports the official android implementation of a2sd.
Any issues to report or is everything working flawlessly as usual?

Q: [Battery Efficiency - Roms, Apps, Tweaks]

First off I wanna ask what happened to the survey on the best rom? It was a pretty useful thread for people to check on to find out what rom would be best for their needs. Was that thread causing any conflict?
Now to my real question :
What can you guys suggest as the BEST Rom, Application or Tweak for improving SGY's battery life? I mean, at least sacrificing the LEAST amount of performance.
I just downloaded and installed a new rom, but the problem is (although its very nice, fast and all), it sucks out my battery so bad that its not even worth sacrificing battery for performance.
Can you guys give me something like -
What Rom, Apps (Battery Saver), Launcher, Widgets, Tweaks, etc, you are using and by how much your battery regulary lasts? (With regular usage of calls, messaging, browing the net, playing games and music, etc.)
Thanks a lot for your input guys.
did you try freezing unwanted background services that were running on the custom rom that you were once on??
less background services = more battery life

Already did. I went so far as to uninstall apps I didnt even use like Google Maps, Mail, etc.
Right now these are some of the things left in my cache:
Google back up transport
User Dictionary
CSC
Status bar
Google contacts sync
Software update
SyncmIDS
SNS
SamsungAppsUNA2
LogsProvider
BrcmBluetoothServices
PCWDevice
DRM content
Im not sure which ones of these that are left should I freeze.
They all auto-restart themselves, and I think my phone wouldnt function properly if I freezed them.
I don't know what custom rom should I use. Can anyone suggest me?

You can freeze the "Software update" if your not planning to update your phone via Over-The-Air upgrade and Samsung AppsUNA2 if you're not using Samsung Apps because this is part of Samsung Apps.
Just don't freeze the following
Process name | Description
DRM Content-Dont freese this process because some people reported that
they ringtones got messed up after freezing this.
Status Bar-Where you can see your notifications , Don't freeze this.
BrcmBluetoothServices-Part of Bluetooth services on our phone,Don't freeze this.
SNS-Social Network Services. This will manage your accounts like
Facebook,Twitter etc.
Google Contacts sync-Syncs your Google contacts to your Contacts , You can
disable this on Settings>Accounts & Sync>Tap on your
Google Account>Uncheck "Sync Contacts">Done !
Google Backup Transport-Unknown Description . Just don't freeze this .
LogsProvider-Unknown description - Just don't freeze this .
CSC-Contains your important network settings , Don't freeze this.
PCWDevice- Your Device
SyncmIDS-Unknown Description . Just don't freeze ..
Do i have mistakes on what to freeze and not to freeze ? , Just correct me

Thanks for quoting me Reel, I'd add to that above quote and say that it's saved my a_s more then a few times and each iteration gets better and better. I now can update my apps long before he updates show up on Play Store, plus by Detecting problems on a daily basis it keeps my phone running smoothly and problem free. I don't sell this app, or have an ownership position with the developer so don't anyone get me wrong, it's just that for everyday maintenance for you phone it simply can't be beat and the Sweetest thing is that it's totally free. I'm not sure how you can beat that combo, but if you have something that good I'd sure love to try it.

You're welcome!
I don't know who is developing this app, but I use it for about two years now with happiness!
But for some reason I would be careful with the auto update function.
I often see apps with e,g. update v1.1 to v2 and when i go to the Playstore I can't find the info for v2. (A view days later the v2 update was in the Playstore)
So in my opinion some updates are doubtful........ so be careful, But enjoy!
Take care!

[APP] AppShare(+) – Share Apps Between Users without Separate Google Accounts

I've recently released an app that uses Google's new multi-user accounts feature to share apps between the different users on your device (without each of them requiring a separate Google account).
It's called AppShare(+) and you can get it here (requires root):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spectrl.appshare
You can download apps on your main user account as usual, and then use AppShare to simply select which users you want to have access to the app.
This also works for "unsharing" (disabling) apps for users. For example, you could disable the Gmail, or Play Store apps for a 'Guest' user account.
As a bonus, you can also use the app to disable (but not uninstall) system or user apps on your main account, freeing up resources and potentially speeding up your device.
It was designed and optimised for tablets (tested on a Nexus 7), however it will also work on phones that have multi-user support enabled through a custom ROM.
Even though I am using the same method that the Android system uses to enable/disable apps, some system apps react in a weird way to being disabled and sometimes re-appear.
I have found that disabling certain system apps works best on a "fresh" account – i.e. A new user which hasn't had a Google account previously set up on it.
There are a couple more limitations, but I would suggest that you read the Play Store description for the full run down...
I have tested it as thoroughly as I can, but please let me know if you run into any problems.
I'd love to hear what you think and get some feedback.
Thanks!
I've been getting a fair amount of crash reports lately and it looks like the cause is a missing file related to Google's multi-user implementation which I assumed would be on everyone's device, in the same place.
It appears that it is not there on some devices, causing my app to crash, so I would really appreciate it if I could get a few people to check and confirm that they have the file /data/system/users/userlist.xml on their device?
You can check using any file explorer with root, or using the adb shell terminal if you know how!
Thanks for your help in making the app better.
I do have userlist.xml in that location; running 4.2.2, updated OTA from 4.2.1.
Currently using "Multi-User App Share" for this feature without problem, but I'll keep and eye on this project and see if it's worth the change.

Thanks for that.
My app seems to be working great for the majority of users (myself included) but there seems to be a handful of people running into problems because the app can't find that file...
I'm struggling to figure out why though?! The only explanation I've got so far is that they could be using custom ROMs which messes with multi-user in some way.
You should try out AppShare, its free so you've got nothing to lose!

Can these apps be frozen or uninstalled without harm?

I have rooted and removed a lot of the bloat, including all AT&T apps, and most Asus Apps, but there are still some that I'm wanting to remove but I'm just not sure on how stable it will be to remove them or what they are for. One of the reasons I'm removing a lot is because for some reason I only ever have like 215MB of free RAM even when I close all apps, leaving my phone constantly screen redrawing and lagging due to all the excessive background tasks.
Here is a list of the remaining stuff I'd like to know if it's safe to remove:
AAB Service - AsusAABService.apk
ATATool - ATATool.apk
Android System Webview - webview.apk & com.google.android.webview-2/base.apk
DNLA Service - DLNAService.apk
Social Network Provider - SocialNetworkProvider.apk
Social Network Service - AsusSocialNetworkService_ATT.apk
Asus As - AsusAs.apk
ASUSCompatibilityService - AsusHoudiniXmlUpdater.apk
com.intel.widi.uibc - WidiInputService.apk
If any or all of those are safe to remove, please let me know. Thanks!
