Like on the Nexus 4 there is a dialer code and are able to change to LTE only or wcdma only etc...
They only give us 3 options to us through connection settings.
Reason for this is in certain places I know where I get lte it only gives me H+ and it isn't as fast. And at those times I'm not calling so I don't care.
Can any one please help me?

*#2263# enter that in dialer. Might work.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk 2
*#2263# enter that in dialer go to "[4] LTTE Band preference" then select lte band 4. hit the menu button and hit select. type the number 1.
also as you will not be able to make calls with this setting.
The better mode is LTE/WCMA (go figure).

I know thank you. When I'm at work lte is there on one bar and is faster than H+. and other places too.
Once I leave I switch back to normal.
The funny thing is that on my Nexus 4 it had better radio's sorta in a way as it almost always choose the fastest regardless if LTE was available.

Thank you for this information. Sorry if it's not obvious to me but is there a way to disable LTE using this menu? When I'm at work, it's constantly changing between LTE and HSPA+ as I walk about and it actually interrupts my data connection a bit. My HSPA+ speeds are more than acceptable to me.

In normal settings you go to more networks and choose mobile networks, then choose wcdma only.

Hello xda sorry for the n00b question and I'm not sure if there was a thread about this but I tried looking but no luck, I browse xda all the time but I just registered now to hopefully find some help.
So I just used GNex TOOLKIT V5.3 and did numbers 1,2,3 then skipped to #7 and then did #8 to get yakju.
Now everything was successful and I got my apps back and my phone could still call and text. I was using my wifi the whole time pretty much so I didn't notice my data or internet on my phone was lost till later.
Did I just screw my self over? I'm on the GSM version Galaxy nexus now on 4.0.2 if that is any help.
I would start by checking your apn settings...

hmmm do I type WCDMA even if im GSM? thanks for your input so far.
WCDMA is usually what GSM carriers use for 3G at least AT&T does its not real CDMA though

I work on the very edge of an area with 4G reception.
However, my phone seems overly aggressive in switching down to Edge, and will always do so if I let it.
When I go into Settings and manually force it to WCDMA only, then I can connect on 4G and it works and is faster.
It's a huge hassle having to manually go in there and change this setting all the time, is there a way to tweak the preferences of the phone so that it will be less likely to switch to EDGE but will still do so when there is absolutely no 4G signal?
Haven't checked on the SGS2, but I remember on my N1 you could set "WCDMA preferred." This would prefer 3G/4G first and then fall back to edge if no other option.
Not anymore unfortunately unless your running on 2.3.5. There used to be a dialer code "*#*#4636#*#*" which opened the "testing" settings which allowed you to set wcdma preferred.

Hmm, I'm seeing band preferences in there, where I can adjust things about the frequency bands, but I'm not seeing how to adjust the preference between HSPA and EDGE, any ideas?
Is there a way to force LTE as the only network my phone connects to? I have the network app that worked in my EVO 4G LTE but it doesn't seem to work on my GS3

My wife is with Verizon and theirs works the same way. She's always like, why won't it just stay in 4g? Different beast than WiMax (not that that wouldn't drop out like a trap door sometimes.)

Yes, you can do this in the hidden Data Programming menu launched from the stock TouchWiz dialer. You will need to know your MSL code:
In the Dialer enter ##DATA#
On the Data Programming screen select Edit
Enter your MSL
Tap OK
Select Others
Select HDR/1X Selection
Select "LTE Only Mode"
Tap OK
There is a major downside to this: You will no longer have voice or text service, only LTE data service (where available).

Phone info basically replaces the process of using *#2263#. I'd suggest uninstalling it, and manually:
1. In dialer, *#2263#
2. LTE band preference, LTE all
3. Menu key, end
4. Again in dialer, *#2263#
5. Select automatic
6. Menu key, end

That doesn't help on AT&T based ROMs. That option would be removed

Your situation is exactly why AT&T is effing idiotic for removing the ability to disable LTE.

I'm on custom ROM and below procedure worked on mine (though I'm on LTE 100% of time).
I copied from some thread some time back
-----------
From the phone dialer enter: *#197328640#
Umts -> Debug Screen -> Phone Control -> Network Lock -> RAT_FREE_SUPPORITNG ON <- once you choose this option it will say "Now RAT Free Supporting" - this will allow you to change bands freely (no need to pull the SIM card) until your next reboot.
You can save *#197328640# in your contacts. I wasn't able to call the contact directly but from the dialer you can dial *#1 and it will pop up as a suggestion - you press that and it launches automatically. You can then go to Umts -> Debug Screen -> Phone Control -> Network Control <- this leads you to the screen you'd find in my original method with *#2263#
From here you can freely swap to whichever band you prefer and it will connect without a reboot required!
Note: After disabling RAT restrictions you can hit the menu button and choose back, twice. You'll then be at the menu list that includes "Network Control" aka *#2263# which is a little faster.

No. I tried on several myself just to verify (CM, AOKP, and a couple of others). It does work on AT&T stock ROM for certain though. It is the only thing that really keeps me from moving away completely from stock ROMS and/or other TW variants.

I was reading on another post which talked about the Note 2 and when I come to that menu.. I got this "RAT FREE SUPPORTING on" as option 4 while the other post said it should say.. "[4] NW LOCK NV Data INNITIALLIZ"....
What have I done wrong??
Mine is a AT&T i317 Note 2, but shouldn't this menu be identical for all variance?
Hope you can advise.
Thanks.
Im with Bell and I dont have the "RAT_FREE_SUPPORITNG ON" option. Any alternative ?
Thanks.
