Seeing this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1826911 is it possible today to compile CM9 and not have the BT and VoIP bugs?
I'm in need of having both working, and I'm getting ready to switch to ICS, I see no other way of having all features working, I could be happy having at least CM, I love it for the features all the tweaking that is possible.
Last night tried lite rom but even after formating systemui crashed.. I guess I'll go fetch a rooted+debloated ICS rom and start looking other phones...I'm sad...
edit1: found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1908189 I will try to revive it.

If you are looking for a rom/kernel for the Telus SGH-t959d try cyanogen 9 build 16 and semaphore kernel(0.9.1)-working 99.5%!!! The only thing that is not 100% is the battery drain-I only get about 1 1/2 days max-with darkys rom I got 2 days plus no problem.
No home or back button issues, all apps restored with Titanium without issues....
Have Fun!

updated to build 17 without semaphore kernel-battery so far seems longer, but I did have 1 random reboot though.

Now have drZMIUI ICS with semaphore 090 kernel-updated to 095b- working pretty good at this time-couple of force closes nothing major, only thing that seems to keep re-occurring is the settings/superuser permissions sometimes get reset.+Don't use deep idle-keeps locking up phone.
Gonna keep trying this one and CM9 for next couple of months to see what is the best

Hi, can I have a kind of status of your usage?
IS the CM rom better than the MIUI one?
I'm currently using glitch kernel with miui 2.3rom and I have a huge problem of signals.
I would really like to upgrade my phone with another kernel and rom, but I want to be sure that it work before.
Thanks for your answer.

I finally I did it.
Installed a stable version(not nightly) of cyanogen (i9000) and installed semaphore 1.3.0
Work fine for now... will give an update status soon.
By the way I followed that tutorial to flash perfectly my phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494493
Thanks.

It will unfortunately not work on CM9, the ICS-->JB update is quite rich, it is no longer a simple copy/paste matter. You need to wait for a flawless JB release, I personally suggest you to try the XtremE Rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1795200 this is quite stable and AFAIK the best JB rom realeased yet thought I'm experiencing a huge battery drain. Or you can wait for the Resurrection Remix JellyBean Rom to get improved, as this Rom was the best ICS Rom for me, stable fast and no battery drain.
report arinvo
I tried the RR ROM and i really like it except for one thing : the gallery shows the pics which are supposed to be hidden (Whatsapp n viber images i.e the pics with the .nomedia file)
I tried refreshing storage etc but they wouldn't go away
Got any ideas?
Guyssss plzzzz any1???? I've been searching for ages but couldn't find a solution !!!
Hello everyone, I'm new to the forums but I've been looking into custom ROMs for some time already.
I'd like to tell you that I'm extremely dumb when it comes to things like Kernel, even though I understand a bit of these, I have lots of questions, keeping with that example, if I flash a CM9 Kernel, when I restore an old backup (where I used the Stock phone, for instance), what happens to that Kernel? Is it erased and the Kernel is back to my Stock?
But well, let's get the thread specifically where I want, the custom ROMs.
As previously said, I'm stupidly new to these things, but I decided to gamble on my luck and flash a CM9 Quarx nightly some days ago (can't remember from where I got that one, sorry), but I experienced some problems, like a small lag (yeah, I didn't really like the speed, compared to my stock) and an awful battery problem, where two battery fixes didn't work, and, then, with my heart desolated like a dragon's breath on corn fields, I restored the stock backup I made before doing that.
Ah yeah, I forgot to mention that my Defy+ came with a 2.3.4 version of the OS, just to let you guys know.
So, after that, seeking for more candy to my eyes (Jesus, I loved the settings and stuff from that ROM!), I sailed my boat to the famous WhiteRabbit 1.6, which I must admit, I LOVED it. But as I said, LOV"ED", until I started to face a giant tide... My phone was constantly freezing for long periods (something between 4 and 6 minutes, usually), something of which made my phone quite unusuable and unstable. With tears in my eyes, listening to Beethoven's 1st move of Moonlight Sonata (on the PC...), I decided to restore that old - 2-day old actually - backup to Stock again.
Now I just noticed that I don't like Stock anymore, I can't stand the limitations in comparison to the other two ROMs I used, and I want more! I want some stable ROM, and with "stable" I really mean something stable: a ROM that won't freeze, that has the basic stuff working, a good-looking UI, with fast and smooth scrolling, with a fix for the battery error (if there is the error on the ROM... which I'm quite sure will have), and that gives me more than the Stock would.
I've been looking at that MIUI Pikachu Edition and I really want to try it out, so, should I go on with it? Or do you guys recommend me something else? Another thing that I forgot to say is that I don't really feel like downgrading my Kernel nor putting my phone into a knight's blade way.
Yup, my device is Rooted and has a Boot Manager that I got on some brazillian forums, everything works as I guess they should do.
Sorry for the wall of text and before anything, thanks in advance!
Hey, mate
MIUI Pikachu Edition was the ROM I used absolutely the longest, almost two months without switching to anything else. I must admit that was the time I was constantly satisfied with my phone, but then CM9 became stable and I switched to it and then I simply couldn't go back to any Gingerbread ROM as the new features (mostly the looks ) of ICS were just too good Soon CM10 showed up and I've been with it since the first nightly.
So, yes, I think you should try Pikachu, but for it you need to flash "bl6 Froyo", because it's built for Froyo kernel only. (You cannot flash those flashable kernel zips! They are meant for the standard DEFY only. They are signed as bl5 and if you were to flash one of those, you would end up with a bootloader error, so you would have to flash the 2.3.4 sbf to get your phone back up and running...)
Other than that, CM10 is pretty much the way to go, if you ask me. Yes, it might take some time to load an app or another, but it's the most advanced ROM for the DEFY(+) so far and Jelly Bean really is the best Android version up to date. Quarx's latest nightly is the best version at the moment - the one from two days ago (September 12th). (Paranoid Android and AOKP are both based on Quarx's work, at least our (DEFY) versions)
The third choice for me would be MIUI 4.1, the one based on Jelly Bean. MIUI v4 was a nice step forward when it comes to looks, but it was two steps back when it comes to performance. v4.1 is a much better performer, but work on it has just started, so it'll take a couple of versions to polish it a bit. If you try and like Pikachu I guess you should follow Wajk's WIUI Jelly Bean progress and switch to it when you find it good enough for you
P.S. If it happens that you like Gingerbread more than Jelly Bean for whatever reason and don't like MIUI, FuZZ's CM7 KANG's were always the best for me :good:
I'd say that depends on how you want to handle your phone. If you want to just install a custom ROM once and then stick with it I can recommend CM 7.2, I had that for like half a year and everything worked nicely. It also offers lots of extra features and customization.
If you want the newest Android version I can second the above notion, try CM10 by Quarx. its a great ROM, and even though it is still work in Progress everything you need is working. This might mean that you want to update your ROM every once in a while to get the newest build and features, but this can be done easily through an app from within CM10.
As you have a Defy+ you wont need to flash any Kernel for the above, just pick the correct (Defy+) Version.
use CM10 its stable & works fine on defy+
Because of the controversy and arguments they inevitably generate, "best ROM" threads are prohibited on XDA. Thread closed.
It looks like CondemnedSoul's Kangdemnation v5 is the only ROM with the rotating softkey fix. Aeroevan's unofficial CM9 Rom used to have it but it hasn't been implemented in his past few releases. Also, the newer CM9 and CM10 Roms that have been released also don't have this fix (probably because they use Aeroevan's Rom as a base). Anyway, if someone can point me or set up a flashable zip file that we can install on top of the newer AOSP Roms, it'll be definitely appreciated! :highfive:
P.S.: I was told to put it here so excuse me if I posted the same question in another section :cyclops:

If the suggestion I gave you in the other thread didn't work then there isn't currently a tool available. So maybe someone will be nice and make it for you, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Yeah I responded to you in the other thread but that was deleted from the section. The fix you mentioned only fixes the issue with the softkey lights turning off really quickly instead of turning off when the screen turns off. It references another link where you can download some libraries but it's missing the key library to make fix the issue.
Thanks anyway!
Aero did have it working in most of the older cm9 builds and if you don't mind gb I believe he has them on his cm7.2 build. At the moment I know he is working mostly on cm10 across a few devices and he just recently got married so since the soft keys not rotating doesn't prevent them from working it is kind of far down on the list of things to work on. Just have patience I am sure they will be rotating soon enough as aero has done a fantastic job so far.

Hi, I got my Xperia S few days ago and I was planning to use Galaxy S+ as a main phone until a decent 4.2.2 rom will come out but now S+ goes to someone else in a family and I'll be left with Xperia S only.
I tried few 4.2.2 roms in a free time but now I need to get my phone up and running for daily use (which requires all or most functionality). As I have not enough time to try and test all of them I kindly ask you to recommend most stable and functional rom. If it based on stock or aosp/cm 4.1.2 I don't care but if I could choose from many I would prefer clean/vanilla/non-themed rom. I don't care about 'extreme' 'ultra' 'blazing fast' too if it comes in exchange for wifi router or bugfree camera. Or should I go back to original .200/.211 firmware?
Please advise as I can't afford time for flashing roms until I find a good one.
Thank you for understanding my situation.
try this
i dont quite know what your looking for but i suggest you look at this

I suggest cyanogen mod rom or Aokp for no bugs, if not that FLASH a stock rom and wait for the next update for the XS that "Tackles all the bugs"
I'd say go for stock based ROM's which have small app, walkman, BE and where everything works... This is my favourite one
link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2266993
If you really want vanilla android, go for PAC ROM. It combines features from Paranoid Android, CM and AOKP, plus most of it works, but it doesn't have a great battery life...
I do know about this rom list and I would test them all but as I said I have no time for that and I need -fully- working and solid rom without force closes, obvious bugs etc. as soon as possible for everyday work.
Someone recommended eXistenZ rom before and I will try that for next couple of days and if that will be a disappointment I will roll back to stock .200 until further development results.
I tried PAC 4.2.2 and it's really messed up/not ready for daily use. I have a bad feeling about roms that use various sources stitched up together. On previous phones I only liked pure AOSP or CM as they were most solid.
Please add more opinions or tell me that something I'm looking for does not exist yet I had been waiting for fully working roms for a long time before. Let's hope it's a different story with this device
stock will always be the most stable since it has all official drivers
now, if you wanna ask about which custom rom is better, you'll always receive a biased opinion due to user preferences..just go ahead and flash one so you'll get a feel for them
my search for good custom rom comes from experience with Samsung Galaxy S+ where stock roms are garbage, bloated, ugly and bugged even more than stock .200 for Xperia S but after some waiting smart devs came up with 99% perfect 4.0.4 and 4.2.2 based on AOSP and CM - without official support from those projects.
I was hoping that development for Xperia S will be more advanced since it's more mainstream phone rather than 'let's give original Samsung S some experimental hardware upgrades and leave it behind because we have more popular phones to worry about'. I'm sure it's just a matter of time (and just another driver fix from Sony) when our devs will release perfect working rom.
