Bricked: QHSUSB_DLOAD - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I haven't flashed my phone in a month or two. I was looking at my phone, I set it down, try to wake it up 2 minutes later and the phone is off. There is no response turning it on. No vibrate, no noise, no visual. Recovery button/download mode button sequence doesn't work. I tried 3 different batteries, and plugging into the wall. Nothing works.
I noticed after plugging it into the PC, it shows up under device manager as QHSUSB_DLOAD.
Now from what I've read, this is pretty much impossible to fix? What I don't understand is why/how this could happen when I wasn't flashing any ROMs.
Any ideas?

Good luck.
Download and install win32diskmanager, open the above image with that program and write to your blank, formatted sd card of the same size as your phone's internal memory. Once the write is done, put sd card in your S3 and hold down the power button until it loads.
Then, reboot in download mode (sd card still in). It wouldnt do it from twrp for me, had to up, power and vol.
Odin a stock image and you are good to go!

Thank you for this. I ended up sending into Samsung. I still don't if they will fix it for free (they received it today). If they won't fix it then I will try this and report back.

No luck here

What does that mean? You couldn't d/l the file? It wouldn't boot when the sd card was inserted?

File has been downloaded. The partions in the file are set from 0-22 (sec. boot 3.0 goes from 1-23 (1 being modem and 23 being grow))
It doesn't boot from the SD card at all - no signs of life, whatsoever, no light, no vibration, nothing.
What my thought are at this point is whether or not there'd be much difference if parition (0) [modem] were to be changed to 1 and like-wise for the rest of the partitions [i.e - 2 changed to 3 and 3 changed to 4].

Can't get to bootloader!

When ever I try to get to bootloader mode, my phone just comes up to the tri-color screen. I press and hold the left OK key along with the power button, then do a soft reset. I only get to the tri-color screen. Can someone help me out with this please...I'm trying to upgrade to a WM6.1 rom on my 8525 via SD card.

The tri-color screen IS the bootloader. I have found with my 8525, that if you turn the device off (power button for 5 seconds, then tap OK), all you need do is hold the side OK and the power button together for a few seconds. No need to find the reset hole if the device is OFF.
If you have an SD card in the device (with a copy of HERMIMG.NBH on it), the Tri-Color screen will come up, searching the card. When the NBH file has been found, it will show you the various parts that the file includes, and prompt you to press the power button to begin.
It's really easy this way. I rarely flash through USB anymore.
Hope this helps,
-pvs
Wow..thanks for the speedy response. I'll give it a try. Thanks again.
When I try to upgrade via SD, the bootloader never reads the SD card, it just sits...and says serial at the bottom of the screen.
When I try to upgrade via USB, after I start the RUU, the active sync connection is broken, and the phone goes into the bootloader screen and just sits...and says USB at the bottom of the screen.
If anyone has had this problem, please let me know. If not..I guess I'll just have to go out and buy a Tilt.
Current ROM: 2.15.502.3
Current Radio: 1.40.30.00
SUCCESS!!!!
Thanks for your help. My company has the firewall on and it, for some reason was killing my active sync connection. I was able to upgrade via USB. And this ROM is looking great starbase64

1) Is your SD card freshly formatted (FAT32)?
2) have you installed HardSPL? If not, do it.
3) Are you sure you spelled the name of the NBH correctly? HERMIMG.NBH
4) Copy HERMIMG.NBH to the root of your SD card
5) Shut off the device (power off all the way)
6) Insert the SD card with only the one file (HERMIMG.NBH) on it
7) Press the side OK button and the power button simultaneously for a couple of seconds
8) your device should start up, and the bootloader will look for the HERMIMG.NBH file
9) If all the above is done corectly, your device SHOULD find the NBH and tell you what parts it contains, then ask you if you wish to proceed, by pressing the power key. If this isn't happening for you, I'm afraid I don't have any other suggestions for you.

Others HAVE had this problem. You need to disable one of the settings in ActiveSync, but I don't remember which one. Try doing a search under the main HERMES forum, including all subforums. This is one of those questions that gets asked a lot, so be prepared to sift through all the repetitive threads (GOD, if only people would SEARCH first!).

when you say copy the .nbh file to the root of the SD card what exactly do you mean. When i put the SD card in there and format it its completely empty with nothing there, then the only option i have is open the SD card folder and put it in there, is that correct?
okay so i just did the SD card flashing, said on the screen it was flashing and did the whole thing fine. Told me it was complete so i pressed the power the button to restart the phone and no matter how many times i restart the phone it just boots into Tri color screen and says serial at the bottom.
I tried soft reset and removing the battery no matter how many times i do it, always comes back to Tri color screen.. help!

Hmmm, I typically do a RESET after the flash process completes. Never tried shutting down using the power button. So now your device is stuck in BL? I'm not sure of the procedures you need to try to escape that one, but I KNOW it's been discussed here in the forums. You MIGHT try flashing a different ROM. It might be the simplest way to recover. If that doesn't work, you might want to check the Wiki HERE.

[Q] Phone as good as dead... what to do???

My phone was running fine till yesterday night. I was using RSK SE Odexed rom with cm7r2 hboot. Today morning i got up and pressed the power button to turn on the screen (i didnt switch it off last night). But all i get into is the hboot menu. It checks for PB99IMG.zip file in the sd card as usual. But non of the keys work (Power or volume) even after the file check. The only thing i can do is remove battery. but pressing the power button does the same thing. Tested my sd card on another device which showed my fat32 system was fine but the ext4 parttition is empty (It shouuld not be empty). i tried flashing recovery by a PB99IMG.zip file. but the phone did not detect the zip file. Tried connecting the phone to pc and use fastboot and adb commands. but the laptop does not detect the phone (tried 'fastboot devices' and 'adb devices'). Both didnt show any device. google usb drivers and htc drivers are installed on laptop. dont know what to do??? please help......
Are you able to enter into recovery?
Try removing the battery, wait for 15-30mins, put it back and press power and vol down buttons simultaneously.

waited for 30 minutes but still the same problem...
Hmm iam thinking you probably should try and use another sd card...and start over all again.

tried with another sd card. but it doesnt even search for PB99IMG.zip files on the new card. inserted my old sd card and it searches for those files at least. the same hboot menu appears, doesnt matter if i press power or power+volume down.

you need card max size 2gb to recognize the file PB99IMG.
Treid with a 32 gb card. placed the PB99IMG.zip for stock hboot at the root of the sd card. started the phone (both ways: (1)power and (2)power + volume down) and straight off the hboot menu was visible. it scanned the sd card and when u get an option to flash the file it was writen
"Parsing....
(1)Bootloader"
below which i think there should be an option for- volume down(...) or volume up(...). But there was no such option.:crying:

Them i triede odin multiloader them i tried TWRP them i ended up messing everythin tring via Clock work mod recovery. I just got the process well done and them when the system tries to boot it just won't boot. The eternal black screen looks like i have to a Hard Brick and even if while i try the usb cable the computer responds to the device, i couldn't take it to Download Mode.

Can’t access to Download Mode or Recovery Mode after bricking AT&T Galaxy S3 i744 4.3
Hi I have (had) a AT&T galaxy S3 i747 with android 4.1.1

Because the phone is in another country I couldn’t update it by OTA to android 4.3
So I started to read forums that said how to Update AT&T S3 i747 to android 4.3 (I747UCUEMJB)
The S3 was not Root
I installed all the phone drivers in the computer
This is what I did: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52341582&postcount=38)
- Use Odin 3.07
- Check Auto Reboot and Re-Partition, and uncheck all the boxes
- I put my phone in USB debugging in the developer options
- I turned it off
- Started to put the phone on Download Mode pressing volume DW+home+power button at the same time
- In Odin on the PDA box I checked and loaded the file .tar.md5 (I747UCUEMJB_2024954_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5 )
- Pressed the button Start
The installation seemed to go right, the program never showed anything weird.
When the Programs finished the installation the phone turned off and then turned on and show the logo of android (seemed to be lying down or inclined) and after that it turned off.
The computer showed that something was connected (QHSUSB_DLOAD) but couldn’t install any driver, so I disconnected it of the computer.
I couldn’t turn on the phone :crying:, I took the battery out and put it in and tried to start the phone and nothing happened, I tried pressing any button to access to recovery o download mode and none of this worked.
I started to search forums that talk about restart or turn on a brick AT&T S3 i747
I found one (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2549068) that said to download a image (debrick-SGH-I747U-CUEMJB3.img) and using the program “Win32DiskImager” to put the image inside of a micro SD to make the phone turn on,
I put the micro SD inside the phone and when I pushed the power button for almost 3 seconds it Turned on , the phone seems to be fine an it has android 4.3 (I747UCUEMJB) installed.
I can use it normally so far.
But the problem is that I can’t turn on the phone if the micro SD card is not inserted on the phone.
Without the micro SD inside don’t show any sign of life
When the micro SD is inside I can turn on the phone and use its apps.
I have tried to enter to Recovery mode or Download mode with the micro SD inside but the phone only show what its supposed to happen for 1 second then turns off and then turns on by its own (after that I can use it normally)
Does anyone know how can I Fix my phone ?
How can I boot my phone without using the micro SD card?
How can I access to download mode?
And if I could access to download mode what should I do next ?
The only files I have now are:
Odin3 v3.07
I747UCUEMJB_2024954_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5(905 Mb)
debrick-SGH-I747U-CUEMJB3.img (80 Mb)

It's been a while sorry about beinging away.
A guy who says that have a JTAG service tried and coudn't recover it. So I left it there because it have a broken display and a broken firmware and it' is from outside Brazil and after the FIFA CUP Anatel will lock operation of devices that models are not sold on Brazil and I747 is probably included on the list.
So i gave up from my phone and bought a Nexus 5.
The case is closed!

Hi I have (had) a AT&T galaxy S3 i747 with android 4.1.1 View attachment 2790321
- I turned it off
- Started to put the phone on Download Mode pressing volume DW+home+power button at the same time View attachment 2790322 View attachment 2790323
- In Odin on the PDA box I checked and loaded the file .tar.md5 (I747UCUEMJB_2024954_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5 )
- Pressed the button Start View attachment 2790324
The installation seemed to go right, the program never showed anything weird. View attachment 2790325
I started to search forums that talk about restart or turn on a brick AT&T S3 i747
I found one (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2549068) that said to download a image (debrick-SGH-I747U-CUEMJB3.img) and using the program “Win32DiskImager” to put the image inside of a micro SD to make the phone turn on,
I put the micro SD inside the phone and when I pushed the power button for almost 3 seconds it Turned on , the phone seems to be fine an it has android 4.3 (I747UCUEMJB) installed.View attachment 2790326

Here's what you can do to get the device back to working and booting normally. If the Odin flash failed first time, you should not use this flash again. Instead you should use custom recovery to flash a complete 4.3 stock restore image.
1) Download the stock restore image from the following thread. I always prefer to use TWRP and thus, the TWRP image, because of the easier user interface.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658486
Save the file to a location on your computer.
2) Download the Odin flashable TWRP Tar file for custom recovery from the link below ....
http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/d2att/openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-d2att.tar
With the debrick card in your phone, boot to system as you have been doing. Connect your phone to your computer with a good quality micro USB cable and copy the stock restore image you downloaded earlier to your phone. Be sure you remember the stored location.
3) Power off your phone and, with the debrick card, boot to download mode. If you cannot use the Volume Down, Power and Home button combo to boot to download mode, you may need to get a USB jig.
4) Once you are in download mode, connect your phone to the PC, open Odin v3.07. Make sure Odin recognizes your phone. Do not check or uncheck any boxes but leave the defaults as is. In the PDA box, load the TWRP Tar file you downloaded earlier. Click on Start and wait for flashing to complete. When you get to Pass, disconnect your phone from the PC and pull out the battery to stop it trying to reboot.
5) Replace the battery and with the debrick card inside, boot to Recovery mode by pressing the Volume Up, Power and Home buttons. If you do this right, you should be able to get to recovery mode.
6) Select Install and navigate to the stock restore zip file you saved to your phone earlier. Select this zip and swipe to confirm install. Wait for firmware installation (flashing) to complete.
7) Clear your cache/dalvikand reboot to system.
Try booting without the card. If the above process went as described, your phone should be booting normally. Good luck!

Okay. At least, we are almost there. Try booting into recovery mode and doing a hard wipe/reset. If this doesn't work, then you could try reinstalling the 4.3 stock firmware. You may need to reflash custom recovery as the initial flashing would have returned you to stock recovery. If you have to do the firmware flashing again, please make sure you clear your cache/dalvik before rebooting to system.
happy to see this thread resolved, this is what XDA is all about, no matter how fd up something sounds, a community like xda will find a fix for it even if it takes months
And the award of the Q/A thread goes to Larry and everyone in this post for trying and failing but succeeding at the end
anywayz happy rooting and be careful, no-one wants to end with a brick cheers and keep this place awsome

[Q] S4 mini does not boot into recovery mode after attempt to root

Hi.
I have followed the instructions on this thread to root the GT-I9190 but I am stacked on Step 7.
The procedure is as:
Copy the "S4Mini_RootKit_v2.zip" to your device SD card.
Turn off the phone.
Press and hold home, volume down and power. Download screen should appear.
Connect USB cable, and press volume up.
Start Odin, uncheck "F. Reset Time", and then click AP button.
Select "recovery-clockwork-6.0.4.6-serrano3gxx.tar.md5" file that you previously extracted, and press Start button. The phone will reboot when finished.
After the phone resets (it vibrates) IMMEDIATELY hold volume up and home buttons to boot into recovery mode.
Select the option to install the ZIP file you have previously copied to your device and begin flashing it.
After flashing using CWM, reboot into system and enjoy your rooted device.

The phone does not boot into recovery mode. I have tried several times to press hold volume up and home buttons immediately after the phone vibrates when re-starting, but the phone just starts normally.
The phone applications cannot access the SD card to save files. When I try to save a file (from Internet or Titanium Backup) it says "No SD card present".
I can access the card from the file explorer and I access to pictures, music, etc. But the applications cannot find the SD card when they have to save a file.
- Should I go to step-8 and run "S4Mini_RootKit_v2.zip" from the SD card?
I will appreciate some help.
Thank You
ps: I am sorry for asking again. I am not receiving answers at the section for developers, so I have decided to ask at this section of Help & Troubleshooting

Switch the phone off, than press power+vol up+menu simultaneously, when the phone vibrate (powering on), let go. If it doesn't enter recovery you not doing it right, there's no other answer to that.
As for phone not reading SD card, what type of SD card is't?

So simple, but since It is the first time I do this, I didn't want to experiment

No problem. Not to worry, no harm can be done by trying to enter the recovery mode, either than you may 1. Drain a lot of battery or 2. wipe user data which is like a factory reset.
Please press the 'Thanks' button if I helped in any way.

[GUIDE] Optimus G Pro Full Hard Brick fix

This thread is mostly for the E980 but will help all others as much as possible.
Please be sure to follow all steps!!! If you would like help, please be courteous to all on this thread. Thanks
_________________________________________
Long story short...I hard bricked my phone by flashing a rom for the wrong phone. Phone would not boot at all. No signs of life. When plugged into the computer...I noticed a driver being installed (Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008). A quick search...and a few forums later...I knew for sure my phone was bricked.
Here's what you will need:
MicroSD card
MicroSD card reader
Linux (I used Ubuntu) and Windows
Patience
_________________________________________
Here is what I did...In Windows
1 - Download your stock firmware for your phone. I have an e980...so my file would be one that ends in .tot...most other Optimus G Pro phones have stock files that end with .kdz (search XDA)
2 - Download http://d-h.st/naQWindowsLGFirmwareExtract-1.2.1.0-Release.zip - 1.33 MB. This will work on both .kdz and .tot files.
3 - Open WindowsLGFirmware and locate your stock firmware. A list of files will show up. Click on the boxes on the left of the name of the file for the following...SBL1.bin, SBL2.bin, SBL3.bin, aboot.bin, rpm.bin, tz.bin, backupGPT.bin, recovery.bin, persist.bin, modem.bin, misc.bin, boot.bin and PrimaryGPT.bin.
4 - Then click on "Extract.tot" (or Extract.kdz). Extracted files will be in the same folder at the WindowsLGFirmare.
5 - The PrimaryGPT.bin file now has to be written to the MicroSD card. I used http://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/files/latest/downloadWin32DiskImager.
The rest of the files, put on a usb stick for now.
Once that is done...boot into your Linux Distro(I installed Ubuntu due to permissions needed in the following steps)
6 - Once booted into Linux, have your sd card in the card reader and plugged into your computer...go to Terminal and type ls /dev/sd*
(You should see something like this.../dev/sda /dev/sda1 /dev/sda2 /dev/sda5
/dev/sdb1 /dev/sdb2 /dev/sdb3 /dev/sdb4
/dev/sdb5 .......... /dev/sdb36
7 - Next...in terminal type sudo gdisk -l /dev/sdb
You will see a list with columns for Number, Start, End, Size, Code and Name.
You must match the number on the list with the files you downloaded earlier in Windows. Write down the number in the number column for each of those files. (Example: SBL1 for me was number 2)
Now transfer the files on the usb stick that you downloaded earlier in windows to your linux desktop.
8 - Now in Terminal type sudo -i
Then type dd if=/the location of the file/name of file.bin of=dev/sbd(now type the number that your file was on the list)
This is what mine looked like dd if=/home/ricanares/Desktop/aboot.bin of=/dev/sdb5
You must do this for every file downloaded from our stock firmware(except for PrimaryGPT.bin)
9 - Now reboot back into Windows. Insert the sd card into your phone. Plug the phone into the USB port. For me, the soft keys lit up, which made me feel closer to recovering my phone. At this step, not much happened for me for at least 10 minutes. Then while plugged into the usb port and while sd card was still in phone...my battery fell out (didn't have the battery door on). Put the battery right back in...and the LG boot screen came on.
10 - Finally...remove battery while the sd card is still inserted. While holding down the volume keys, plug the phone back into the usb cable and now you should be in download mode. Now follow the guide found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2302660 and your phone should be back to stock in minutes.
_________________________________________
If phone does not go into Download Mode...try volume up and power or volume down and power. Another thing to try if this doesn't work for you...in step 8...instead of using your stock firmware recovery.img...search xda for a cwm or twrp image to flash. Just rename it to recovery.img.
Good luck to all. Hopefully I wrote this guide clear enough. This is my first ever!!! I finally got my hard bricked phone working and had to share the news. After trying to fix this for the past 2 days...I am off to bed. If you wish to buy me a beer...PM me. Thanks
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This guide was made for the LG Optimus G Pro E980 but may work for all other variations.
For me, when it only lights up for a split second when I remove the battery. My battery is at 100% (tested on my other device) and I can't do anything with the device. I've waited a bit and nothing has happened. I have not seen the backlights turn on except for when I remove the battery.
edit: could you link the stock firmware that you used?
edit2: when i use my empty battery, it lights up, but it disconnects/turns off every ~3 seconds. It may be because this battery is defective, but did this happen to you?

I rebricked my phone to see exactly what I should tell you...here's what I did...When the soft key lights came on...i left the phone plugged into my computer for 10 minutes. Then disconnected the phone...held down both volume keys and plugged in the usb cord...it then booted to download mode where I was able to continue to the link on step 10.(Try this a few times)
The stock firmware i used..i found here...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2420219 Right under where it says "I am aware about my links..." there is a link...click it and download these 2 files LGE980AT-00-V20g-ATT-US-APR-28-2014.zip.htm and LGE980_20130314_LGFLASHv151.dll
I had originally also thought my battery was defective...but it was fine. As long as the battery has a decent amount of charge...you should be set. Keep me updated. Good luck
Few questions..
When you use the imager to write PrimaryGBT.bin to the MicroSD card, does it then seem "corrupt" to Windows and asks to reformat it?
Also, simply after sticking the MicroSD card into your phone and plugging it in (w/ battery) the soft keys just light up? And did they stay lit up even when not connected to the computer? This didn't happen for me with my full battery.
And one you didn't answer: with my empty battery it the soft keys light up, but they turn off and disconnect from my computer every ~3 seconds; did this happen to you?

Thank you for your tutorial... I managed to get the 'unbrick microSD', but my phone keeps being undetected by my pc. The two soft key lights simply flashed on and then came off again in 1 second or less... Does your phone keep the lights on when connected in that manner?
To be sure if I followed your steps correctly:
1 - Battery: inserted; microSD: inserted; phone plugged-in -> soft key lights ON
2 - Wait 10 minutes
3 - Remove battery and put it back in again without disconnecting the phone;
4 - LG bootscreen should appear;
5 - Disconnect the phone and connect it again pressing the volume keys.
6 - Download mode should be back
Is that right?

The image writer did show that the MicroSD card needed to be reformatted...so it does seem corrupted only because of the flashed .bin file. But does not need to be reformatted till the phone is fully back up and running.
The soft keys did light up for me only after I flashed it with all files onto the MicroSD card in the steps I listed above. Did not stay lit up for more than a few seconds. When disconnected from the computer...they would not light up.
I don't know about an empty battery...but with my battery which was at at least 60%...the keys did light up for a few seconds ...and i did keep getting disconnected from the computer which is why i waited 10 minutes before doing anything.
Have you tried other key combinations? Try volume down, home key and power button. Try with and without being plugged into the usb port.

The soft keys did not stay on for more than a few seconds for me. The steps are correct. Try removing the sd card and try holding the volume buttons and connect to the computer via usb. If that doesnt work...try different key combinations...volume down, home button and power...try while plugged into the computer and without. Let me know if you need further help.

I can't get the LG bootscreen... could you provide us a short video? thank you
I'm trying with a microSD created using the e980 v20g .tot file... I managed to download an e986 kdz file (many mirrors are down). Maybe it needs the right partitions to boot from sd, even if the two models should be very similar (except for the modem).

3 - Remove battery and put it back in again without disconnecting the phone;
4 - LG bootscreen should appear;
5 - Disconnect the phone and connect it again pressing the volume keys.
6 - Download mode should be back
Is that right?

The phone is detected in QHSUSB_DLOAD mode (all the drivers have been already installed) only if the microSD is removed, the battery is inserted and I press the volume keys while connecting it to the pc. Otherwise, it remains undetected.
The soft key lights go on only connecting it with the microSD inserted and without the battery.
My battery was at a decent charge (40-60%) 3-4 days ago... I don't know if it went out of charge now.

Try plugging the phone into an outlet with battery and sd card inserted and see if any lights come on...then try to power on while sd card is inserted. Also, try and reboot computer. I will be on here for a few more hours.

No lights on using the ac adapter. I've also discovered that the e986 kdz file cannot be read by the firmware extractor.
Thank you for your help... I'll continue tomorrow (it's quite late and I've got to get to work early :S) with your help. I'm planning to leave the phone to LG assistance if I can't recover it before this weekend.
Please let me know if you can make a short video

The files you used to flash the sd card were from the .tot or the .kdz file? Do you have an e980?

I own an e986 (as I mentioned in my thread)... but I think that the two models are similar. I didn't think about the possibility to boot up the phone using the microSD, but as I saw on the net it's quite common for all qualcomm-based devices, so I'll give my phone another chance before leaving it to LG assistance.

Some news. After reading for hours yesterday...even though the e980 and e986 are similar...they do have some differences when it comes to the software. You must download the kdz for your phone and use a kdz extractor. I believe you said the extractor in this guide is not working for you...if you search google, you will find a few. Once you're able to extract the original firmware...restart the process. Reformat the sd card before beginning. I am in class right now, but will do my best to respond to you quickly.
