When ever I try to get to bootloader mode, my phone just comes up to the tri-color screen. I press and hold the left OK key along with the power button, then do a soft reset. I only get to the tri-color screen. Can someone help me out with this please...I'm trying to upgrade to a WM6.1 rom on my 8525 via SD card.

The tri-color screen IS the bootloader. I have found with my 8525, that if you turn the device off (power button for 5 seconds, then tap OK), all you need do is hold the side OK and the power button together for a few seconds. No need to find the reset hole if the device is OFF.
If you have an SD card in the device (with a copy of HERMIMG.NBH on it), the Tri-Color screen will come up, searching the card. When the NBH file has been found, it will show you the various parts that the file includes, and prompt you to press the power button to begin.
It's really easy this way. I rarely flash through USB anymore.
Hope this helps,

Wow..thanks for the speedy response. I'll give it a try. Thanks again.
When I try to upgrade via SD, the bootloader never reads the SD card, it just sits...and says serial at the bottom of the screen.
When I try to upgrade via USB, after I start the RUU, the active sync connection is broken, and the phone goes into the bootloader screen and just sits...and says USB at the bottom of the screen.
If anyone has had this problem, please let me know. If not..I guess I'll just have to go out and buy a Tilt.
Current ROM: 2.15.502.3
Current Radio: 1.40.30.00
SUCCESS!!!!
Thanks for your help. My company has the firewall on and it, for some reason was killing my active sync connection. I was able to upgrade via USB. And this ROM is looking great starbase64

1) Is your SD card freshly formatted (FAT32)?
2) have you installed HardSPL? If not, do it.
3) Are you sure you spelled the name of the NBH correctly? HERMIMG.NBH
4) Copy HERMIMG.NBH to the root of your SD card
5) Shut off the device (power off all the way)
6) Insert the SD card with only the one file (HERMIMG.NBH) on it
7) Press the side OK button and the power button simultaneously for a couple of seconds
8) your device should start up, and the bootloader will look for the HERMIMG.NBH file
9) If all the above is done corectly, your device SHOULD find the NBH and tell you what parts it contains, then ask you if you wish to proceed, by pressing the power key. If this isn't happening for you, I'm afraid I don't have any other suggestions for you.

Others HAVE had this problem. You need to disable one of the settings in ActiveSync, but I don't remember which one. Try doing a search under the main HERMES forum, including all subforums. This is one of those questions that gets asked a lot, so be prepared to sift through all the repetitive threads (GOD, if only people would SEARCH first!).

when you say copy the .nbh file to the root of the SD card what exactly do you mean. When i put the SD card in there and format it its completely empty with nothing there, then the only option i have is open the SD card folder and put it in there, is that correct?
okay so i just did the SD card flashing, said on the screen it was flashing and did the whole thing fine. Told me it was complete so i pressed the power the button to restart the phone and no matter how many times i restart the phone it just boots into Tri color screen and says serial at the bottom.
I tried soft reset and removing the battery no matter how many times i do it, always comes back to Tri color screen.. help!

Hmmm, I typically do a RESET after the flash process completes. Never tried shutting down using the power button. So now your device is stuck in BL? I'm not sure of the procedures you need to try to escape that one, but I KNOW it's been discussed here in the forums. You MIGHT try flashing a different ROM. It might be the simplest way to recover. If that doesn't work, you might want to check the Wiki HERE.
Good luck!

I have flashed many Custome ROM's before. I have HardSPL installed on my phone.
I tried flashing to a ROM (I forget which one now, I think Cloudfa or something) and it stopped at about 15%. The Update utility stopped as well.
I cannot connect to bootloader at all. I tried holding down on Volume down/Reset to enter bootloader, but the thing is that it's already in bootloader with the message "Upgrade ROM code error, Please try again"
ActiveSync doesn't see my phone either. In fact all it does is just sit on the bootloader screen with that error...
Please Help... Thanks You...
A normal soft reset still brings you back to Bootloader?
What happens when you plug in your device? Does it not change from serial to USB at the bottom?

Sorry. Yes it does show USB when plugged in, but won't respond to anything that I have tried software wise. It does not switch from this bootloader/error screen at any point. Even after I pull my battery and turn it back on...
I have yet to come across a thread which has this exact problem...

Have you tried flashing a different ROM while in bootloader?
^^ Yes. It give me an error on my computer...
I would like to try the internal flashing method but I don't seem to have a way of getting at my Storage Card.
I found this thread with a similar problem
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=480022
I WAS just able to get off of that screen I was talking about, but the best I get is to the Touch Diamond Screen that lists my ROM and such. So no real progress.
I have a feeling that I would resolve my problem if I could Flash from the Interanl Storage...
Have you tried hard resetting the device?
Pull out stylus and Holding....1) Vol. Down 2) Center Round button 3) then press red button aka soft reset with stylus
Nothing...

all i want to do is get windows mobile 6.5 working i cant understand that it can be so hard to do
thanxs blueboys25!
Hi everybody,
I look through the threads and I couldn't find a solution to my troubles. So here it is: I just bought a htc touch pro 2 which came with a window mobile 6.1. Before I transferred anything from my old phone, I thought better to do the official upgrade to 6.5 ROM version 1.86.401.0.
I wanted to flash the ROM through a USB cable as described on the HTC site, but after after having done 22% of the work, everything got stuck. And 5' minutes afterward the update windows on the PC disappeared and I had to disconnect the phone!!!
So now I have a beatiful telephone, which cannot boot up. Indeed, it gets stuck in the 4 colors bootloader.
i) I tried to do a factory reset (pressing power, send hang up buttons) to no avail.
ii) I tried to take out the batteries and pull them in again, then switching on the phone holding down the vol down + power up buttons, then reset.
iii) reconnecting the phone back to the PC by usb, I was never able to get a switch from "serial" to "usb"
Nothing is working, if anybody has an idea what I could try next.... I am wondering if it is possible to flash the phone from the SD card. I am really a newbie here.
Thanks
Max
Yea .. same thing happened to me ..

*Go into BootLoader Mode (do a Soft Reset while holding the "volume down" key on the left side of the device. Keep holding the "volume down" key until you see tricolour screen which is the bootloader mode, then release it)
Flashing Via MicroSD Card
1. Make sure your microSD is Formatted to fat32 (you dont have to delete all files but it is safer if you do)
2. Download your prefered Rom from the Rhodium Rom Develpoment Page and unzip/unrar it to your PC
3. Goto the Roms Folder and rename the .nbh file to RHODIMG.nbh
4. Copy the RHODIMG.nbh file to the root of your MicroSD Card
5. Plug the MicroSD Card into the phone
6. Enter the BootLoader screen, you will first see a tri-color screen with the phone and SPL Information at the top
7. Follow the On Screen instructions to start the update
8. After flash has completed, press the reset button with the stylus to reset the device.
Good Luck ! Worked For me !
Thanks for your help and the link to the thread!! I will use your approach next time. Indeed, in the day afterwards I was able to finally flash the phone from the same PC. I did the manipulation, which failed miserably, with a 64 bit Windows 7 RC. Then, I realised I had another version of W7 on the same PC, a 32 bit version this time. Thus, when I tried it with my dying telephone, the "serial" message on its screen switched "magically" to "usb" and I finally could flash the damned mobile! Frankly, I don't know what's wrong with my 64bit W7 if anything.
Cheers

Did you try the stock rom from HTC loaded over the usb first?
Information about what unlocker you tried to use, what kind of phone you have, what kind of rom you tried to load would be helpful.
help please!
i preformed task 29 on my tilt 2 and i now have an ATT screen and wont go any further. when i try to stat it it only goes as far as the first screen and no further. i tried resting it to no avail. i can not establish connection with pc. i have vista for pc. can somebody help please?
Yes. now u preformed that, you want to plug in your USB. Push reset and the lower volum button at the same time. You will go into boot loader mode. It should say USB on the bottom once u have made a connection after connecting your USB to the computer. At that point flash your Radio, after flashing your radio, flash your rom. All like you normaly would ..
PS. make sure Sim and MScard is out of phone before preforming Flashing Radio, then the rom. Then replace the sim card after all the installation from the rom you are installing..
First go back to the task 29 post and read all the instructions.
Task 29 is a memory wiper,it completely wipes the memory of the device leaving only the radio and basic functions.
To get up and running again follow these instructions:
1. Download the newest stock rom for ATT found in the Rom Development forum. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=737168
2. Remove back cover from the device, remove the battery, remove the SIM card and remove the SD card if you have one. Reinstall the battery, do not replace the back cover.
3. Power up the device and connect it to the PC. Press the down volume button and press and hold the stylus into the reset button, hold both until the boot screen appears. Windows may install some software at this time, let the software install.
4. When USB appears at the bottom of the boot screen run the ROM installer software run. Follow ALL on screen instructions.
NOTE: If you have Hard SPL installed you can install any custom ROM, if not you MUST install a STOCK SHIPPED ROM.

First of all check to see if your phone is hardspl'ed by turning phone completely off then hold volume down key then power phone back on from here you should be on tri-color screen see what the spl version says if it says 0.85Olinex it's hardspl'ed anything else is not hardspl'ed.
If your phone is hardspl'ed then your good all task29 does is wipe your entire os off your phone thats why it won't boot to nothing but the startup screen so in order for it to boot you need to flash a rom on to it, so like before power phone off hold volume down key & power phone on you should be on tri-color screen again at the bottom of phone screen it should say serial now plug in usb from computer now it should say usb at the bottom of phone find a rom that you like then flash it phone should reboot after flash & work like normal once again.
Hope this helps
thank you all you guys. you all were awesome. as you could imagine, i am new to wm. but with the help of every body, i got my phone up and running.

no problem i'm glad we all were able to help you
So I currently have LightNHB flashed. Since WinMo wont work via USB until I check that one option (forget off hand) I can't establish a USB connection to flash my phone. I tried putting the RAPHIMG.nbh into my SD cards root but that also didn't work, during the boot it said there were no images to flash.
So I removed the Android OS files and reformatted my SD card then places the img file into the root again, and again no image was found.
How would I fix this issue? I cannot seem to flash my phone back to a different WinMo rom.
Got into LightNHB and it has no settings for the USB, it's all in ITA and only one thing I could find in the menus and it gives an error that the file cannot be found. Talk about bare-bones, no wonder I couldn't get this to connect to USB, I don't think it has the ability to.
Ideas?
Pull the battery, SIM(if you have one) and microSD card out.
Press and hold the volume down button while plugging in the USB cord and it should take you to the tri-color screen.
If you haven't already let go of the volume down button, do so now.
You should be ready to flash another ROM!

Didn't know I could be like that but, sadly, error 260; followed to the letter :/
I can't get it to recognize .nbh. When I was able to get into the WinMo of LightNBH it seems it's WM5? CDMA? On my GSM phone... I know my version is dual CDMA and GSM. Though I use the latter.
It has HardSPL because Tri-colour screen says 1.90.OliNex
Can you get it to recognize USB in said bootloader mode? You should be able to flash from your PC using bootloader mode...

No, from what I can gather LightNBH doesn't have the stock USB connection info included in WinMo. Settings > Connections was empty. In fact all of it is empty (settings), I couldn't get to my SD card to run cab files to give me control over my phone.
Is there anyone else running the LightNBH flash that can confirm this? I can't even establish a USB line within Android.

Hrm, I figured bootloader mode would be separate from WinMo entirely... so not having usb drivers in WinMo should effect it.
So you're saying when you're in bootloader mode, and you plug in USB it still just says "serial"?

It doesn't even say serial.
Code:
RAPH100
SPL-1.90.OliNex
MicroP-Raph (LED) v13
MicroP-Raph (KEY) v5
PSOC-Raph STAGE_CVT v0x36
That's all my boot-loader says and I didn't think drivers had any effect here but as it sits I get an error 260 unable to connect from the ROM updater's that came with Monfro, TAEL, and Energy, as well as Task_29.
Erm... It should definitely say "Serial" near the bottom. Give it 10 secs or so...
When you plug into USB, that should convert to say USB...
Did you remember to rename the .nbh file into "RAPHIMG.nbh"? You could also use a sd card adapter or another device that has working usb storage that takes micro sd cards and then drag the .nbh file on the sd card via another device.
See what happens when we get in a hurry? At least that's how i ended up with Litenbh on my TP stuck in a boot loop.
I tried the PWR + VOL DN while soft resetting. No luck. Then i was going to try holding those 2 buttons while plugging it in to USB, I was holding the buttons as i unplugged it. It jumped to the serial screen as soon as i unplugged it.
I'm sure you have gotten this fixed or a new phone by now, but in case ur as broke as me, and still playin with a TP cause you HAVE to.
Maybe this will help. Hold power + volume down while plugging/unplugging it from the PC. Might get lucky like i did.
I know it says Development discontinued, but the TP is old enough that the info i'm looking for is getting buried. Most d/l links i find are dead now, so i'm getting jumpy on the clicker finger.
But I for one think this link and the file itself needs to be taken down. I know it's only 2 of us so far, but dangit what a pain!!!

I have a HTC Desire Z which I have rooted using the Cyanogen Wiki Method which i believe was successful, I wanted to check whether I was S-Off before loading custom roms.
wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Desire_Z:_Rooting
I read on a forum you should bootload to check, so i held power and VOL up on restart however now i have a black screen with a flashing red led at the top and am unable to get out of this mode does anyone have any advise what I need to do?
Anything would be helpful I'm in the UK military currently deployed on OPS this is my only means of comms to family. Thanks in advance.
Crap, so you're stuck in bootloader huh? Well if you have a PC with you then thats good news. Cause you can just flash something via your bootloader if you have ADB set up.
Wait, you said it has a red led lit right?... the battery might have died on you in all honesty because that's the only time a red/amber led would come on. If this is the case just leave it charging for like 20 minutes before try to turn it on.
Anyways, if that isn't the issue try getting the screen onto that bootloader page. As soon as you get to that you can start fixing it. It should say FASTBOOT_USB or something similar to that. Now on your pc start up your CMD Prompt (Run > 'cmd'). From there try typing Fastboot devices and it should list your device as HT########. If you can get to that then we're doing well.
BEFORE you try this, just note I've never fastboot flashed a ROM and I only posted this because you seem to need it urgently. If you can wait, then post what you've actually done to the phone so I can provide you with a more tailored solution that will work. (post whether the phone is rooted, s-off or superCID or just the guides and where you got stuck)
Now what you need to do is plug your microSD into your laptop and do this:
Aegishua said:
Before you do this please do the following:
1a. Download the RUU I’ve linked (it should be a ~300mb exe file)
1b. Run the setup until you get to the screen with the tick boxes
1c. Goto C:\Users\<your account name>\AppData\local\temp. Then right click and Sort By Date Modified. Look for the most recently created folder which should look like {xxxxxxx-xxxxxx-xxxxxxxx}. Then navigate into it and its parent folder. Look for rom.zip and copy that to your goldcard/memory card.
1d. Rename the rom.zip on your memory card to PC10IMG.zip
1e. Mount your sd card back onto your phone.
Click to collapse
In this case you want it to be called update.zip. Now you can pop the microSD back into your phone and from there get back into your bootloader and switch to fastboot. Now when it says fastboot_usb you can run this on your PC's CMD Prompt. fastboot update /sdcard/update.zip
did you try something as simple as a battery pull? also, I noted you said power + vol up, you need to do power + vol down to enter bootloader. I seem to remember something similar happening to me back in the day.
chances are it's fine. I'd do a battery pull and boot it normally just to make sure, then power off and enter bootloader to ensure you are s-off by pressing power + vol down.
It is supposed to be volume DOWN + power, I just tried volume up, my phone vibrated 3 times and an orange light flashed continuously, but it was solved by a battery pull, and it was back to normal
Sent from my HTC Desire Z using XDA App
