Backing up Acro S prior to rooting - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

Hi folks,
I've been trying to get my Acro S backed up using Sony PC Companion prior to rooting the phone.
I've got the software to connect to the phone, she have been able to explore the phone using the file manager no problem. However, if I try to get it to backup it just appears to try to connect for ages with no apparent progress
Any suggestions from the founts of knowledge here welcome.
In preparation for rooting I have Flashtool downloaded, the adb drivers installed along with the God Doomlords easy rooting toolkit. Reading through Flashtool it looks like I have to disconnect the usb cable, power down the phone, then press the back button, while reconnecting the cable, then power back up?
Getting impatient for the back up - I have tried this, but it doesn't appear to have done anything. Can anybody please point me in the right direction?
Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
John

Use the backup and restore app from the phone, choose external card to where to save it and remove ext.card when using flashtool to ensure it doesn't wipe it.
Also try using the root tool in the development section, vroot I think. I personnally tried it with my friend's acro s and it worked.

[Q] Can't hard reset Xperia PLAY and isn't detected by flash tool

I had LauncherPRO, I tried switching wallpapers and everything froze so I did a battery pull and now it gets stuck on the "ROGERS" boot up screen or goes to a blank and no keys work. If I slide out the gamepad while its blank, the screen will turn on and it'll be a black screen with the time and the slideout bar but the touch screen doesn't work for some reason. It also says I have no service.
Here's a list of what I've tried so far -
- Holding the left and right D-Pad keys while starting the phone
- Holding the back and search button while starting the phone
- Using Sony Ericsson Update Service but it won't even detect it
- PC Companion won't detect it either
I've had so many problems with this phone, I was hoping to exchange it for a different phone if possible. I got it from Rogers on May 30th, and I didn't really realize it had problems till this month. Thing is, I have installed APK's from 4shared that you'd normally have to pay for and since it seems to be bricked now, I don't know if it's safe to bring it in.. It's not rooted. I'm pretty sure most of my downloaded apps were on my SD card but I"m not 100% sure. The phone isn't functional at all if I manage to get it to that black homescreen.

Thanks for the reply. This won't void warranty, right?
Edit: Flashtool doesn't seem to recognize my Xperia PLAY when I boot it in flash mode. The green LED is lit, and it shows a battery logo when I start it up so I assume that means it's in flash mode, but flash tool wont recognize it. I've tried on a windows 7 and a windows vista computer

I read somewhere that problems with pc companion not regonizing the play can be resolved by umounting the sdcard and then conecting it to pc companion again.

Just tried it after restarting my computer, still no luck but my PC Companion seems to start up everytime I plug it in while booting in flash mode.. which is odd
Edit: Nevermind, it's detected it now. Thanks!
i read that you said the battery logo shows up. that's not flash mode. you enter flash mode by ONLY holding back and plugging in USB cable. but i see you solved it now.

Yeah before I had read that it was different for Xperia PLAY, that you had to hold search. Since before I wasn't holding the "back" button long enough and I didn't think it was working. Anywho it's all fixed up now! This doesn't void warranty right?
Just wanted to add as i just spent hours figuring this out and its really stupid and simple but may help other people. When you connect the phone in flash mode. Connect it in FLASH mode. Do NOT hold the search key button as this is for FASTBOOT MODE. You need to hold the back button on the Xperia play to launch into flash mode instead.
Hope this helps someone =)
Apologies for the necro, but just in case anyone else is having this problem and comes here.... i spent an hour reinstalling drivers, holding different keys without flashtool detecting the phone in flash mode & searching through vaguely related results in google.
In the end nothing was wrong, I was plugged into usb 3.0 and whilst the drivers were installed and the device was showing up in device manager, flashtool simply wouldn't detect it. The moment it was connected to a usb 2.0 socket it immediately worked.
HELP!

My Xperia Play is not being recognised by the FlashTool (I've installed the Gorgon Drivers and it is detecting as ZEUS USBFlash...). It is not responding, I tried pressing the search button, the back button, but I got nothing. I am not getting any light neither. Do any of you have any idea about what I could be doing wrong?
Thanks in advance

[Q] Can't get into flash mode :-(

Hey guys, sorry to be a nuisance but I need some help getting x10 flasher to recognize my play. I unlocked my bootloader, installed gordons gate drivers, ran pc companion (suggested from another thread), turned off my phone, connected usb while hold search and got blue light, do have firmware in firmware folder, but keep getting message - "Searching Xperia, Please plug your device in flash mode". Oh yeah I did install the drivers that came with x10 flasher through device manager in the s1 fastboot icon. What am I doing wrong?
Hold the back button when it says to
Search button is fastboot, not flash mode

So, i have update my ion to ICS LT28h, my wife's ion we waited for the official AT&T update. I downloaded PC Companion, connected the phone, started the update process. I did all i was told on every screen. the phone never updated and now does not power on. no lights when plugged in to charge or connect.

Wrong Section
wrong section
1) hold the power + volume down for like 15 secs...(untill you feel a vibrate)
2) download flashtool at http://androxyde.github.com/
-----Install
3) download whatever FTF you want at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1752345
----move it to C:\Flashtool\firmwares
make sure drivers are installed(find them in C:\Flashtool\drivers
4) Launch Flashtool
5)select the thunderbold
----select the ftf
6)insert the micro usb end into phone (leaving the regular usb out of computer)
----it will tell you some instructions on how to flash but they are for different xperia phone
7) while holding the volume down button while the phone is off (From step 1)
insert REGULAR usb into computer
it should say flashing, or your comp might say installing driver, or it might just say drivers not installed..
ONLY IF YOU CHOOSE TO INSTALL LT28H FTF--------------repeat this step but now install the file from (FOR LTE)

If it is an AT&T phone do you really want to update to LT28h?
why not install lt28h
all you have to do is just flash the extra ftf
and then just change the APN
which i as well as spectre have posted

No reason to use the LT28h anymore since the LT28i and LT28at both have ICS and root.
In hope that someone's still looking at this thread, here is my situation: I tried flashing a prerooted image via fastboot and landed in a Sony bootloop. Then somehow I was stuck in fastboot-mode (led: static blue) and let the phone drain its battery. Now I'm able to get into flashmode but when flashing the chinese FTF with the Flashtool it stops at 1% with status "Processing .......sin" (sorry don't know the file exactly).
When I'm trying to power it up now the Sony logo comes up followed by an exclamation mark in a triangle... could you tell me what options there are left? I saw these prerooted images (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1669906), but there is none for the Ion, so I don't know what could be the next step. If I just had back my normal system... I used to flash my Galaxy S many times so I'm not that unexperienced, but it seems I really have a problem here:crying:
Any help is appreciated!

What model are you working with? And where did you get this prerooted image (the one you tried to flash)? From the link you posted I don't see one for the ion. Anyway, based on my own soft brick experience, you'll prolly need to let the phone battery drain, then charge (process can take a day or so), then try and flash your stock FTF via Flashtool.

I have had the 1% happen to me. I just unplug phone close and reopen flashtool and try again. Took me 3 times to get to flash once.
If still no luck, like spectre51 said use repair option in pc companion.

Thx for your hints! It is kinda frustrating to wait until it is fully loaded, then try flashing, then load and wait again... but the 1%-bug seemed to be a major bug as it is fixed now in the new version 0.9.8 of the flashtool.IGonna tray again tomorrow and report my status. I already checked popfan's thread to get a point if mydevice really is bricked or not. So again thanks to all of you!
Just out of curiosity: is there a possibility to flash a prerooted ftf-file? I live in Switzerland where I bought the lt28h version. And I haven't found a prerooted. img file for flashing via fastboot. Just want to root it, custom roms etc. later
Alright, I was able to flash the chinese FTF and got my phone back working:laugh:
But I had to install the newest version 0.9.8 of the flashtool to not get the 1%-bug again. After this roooting via bin4ry's script worked well and now I'm happy happy happy. Thank you all!
I also had problems with flashtool 9.7. I used 9.0 with no problems. Didn't know about 9.8.

as the OP of this thread, thought i'd update. After reading a few threads i discovered the power/volume button trick. tried volume down with no luck, but power and volume up worked. PC Companion did not work in upgrading the phone. just kept telling me to disconnect my battery, and that if the batter cannot be disconnected to skip that step. But it wouldn't go to the next step. So I tried SUS. Worked perfectly.
So, My phone is running lt28h and my wife is on lt28at. There are some differences in the way data is downloaded. looking at my AT&T bill, the data downloads, i assume for apps that get updated, seem to be different sources. also my phone has significantly larger downloads even though we have similar apps. I do have a couple of weather apps she doesn't have that might be responsible for that.
I'd like to do some additional comparisons, but think i'll be flashing the AT&T rom on my phone soon.

Stuck on SONY logo

Hey all,
Yesterday I was about to flash a new ROM on my wifes Xperia S. She had an old ICS rom and I decided to go for the PAC MAN JB 4.2.2 ROM. Seemed ok.
I own a SGS2 myself so I consider myself a total noob when it comes to the Sony.
I know CWM works on on the XS and I am pretty sure I installed it when I romed it last time. Although I didn't remember how to enter CWM mode so I installed it again through that .bat file that comes with it.
I downloaded the ROM and the GAPPS and copied both to the phone. And now I thought I was set and went for it. Of course I did a Nandroid backup before and also from within the phone a full backup in Backup & Restore. Bootloader is unlocked by the way.
So now I boot into CWM and I do a full wipe/factory reset. I clear the cache and dalvik and also I format the system as he guides us to do in his installation video.
I then installed the rom or at least tried. Got the status 7 together with some error I can't remember.
I read then that people had issues downloading the rom with google chrome which sounds pretty far fetched but I decided to do what other did and downloaded the rom from firefox.
Then within CWM I thought to start the USB and copy it directly in CWM since I already had reset the phone and didn't want to go through the "new phone" routine. But the USB in CWM didn't work so I had to restart the phone.
It then got stuck on the initial SONY logo screen and I'm stuck there now.
I have installed the Flash tool from SONY coz I read in another thread that the only way out is to install stock rom. However when I connect the phone holding volume down windows 8 always say that the USB device is not recognized. I have of course rebooted the PC after.
I'm going to try this on my Windows 7 PC as well later after work but I dread I will be stuck there as well.
Can anyone shed some light on how I can get my wifes Xperia S to be recognized by her Windows 8 laptop? Or have I bricked her phone?
I have thought many times that I bricked my SGS2 but always came out on top, I don't want to lose this battle either.
if it says "Unknown Devices" when you plug the phone to the computer, try change an USB line or change a computer
if it says "Unable to install the driver" or another something like this when you plug the phone to the computer, try install the Flashtool driver
...any screenshots?
Windows 8 gives a balloon tip saying exactly "USB Device not recognized". And I did install the Flashtool to get the driver but I guess I still miss the correct driver here.
I will do some more troubleshooting after work. I just thought maybe someone had similar problem and had a quick and easy solution.
It also happend to me, just turn it off and flash stock firmware with flashtool (select all under wipe)

The issue is not actually the "stuck on SONY logo". The issue is that the computer wont recognize the phone when I connect through USB.
What did you use to get the correct driver?
Ok I actually managed to get it connected on my Windows 7 PC.
I installed Emma (Flashtool) and it installed something but I'm not sure really what happened to be honest. Light on the phone was green and it installed 4.0.4 ICS.
It was a success after about 217 seconds but after that the phone didn't do anything. Stayed with green light and when I disconnected it it could not be started at all.
Maybe it doesn't have enough power to start up. It is on 220V charge now so lets see what will happen with it.

Good news y'all.
All it needed after using Emma was some juice. Now it is back to it's normal self. And I'm not going to ROM it anymore. Soon JB will be officially out for XS.
True!! When I was a noob, I tried to flash cyanogrnmod on my galaxy ace (it was a year ago) and I stuck in bootloop. Idk what to do and I regret it, from that day I never flash any rom. But this year I flash xzxperience on acro s and it works but not so happy and then I flash stock firmware to normal. And I regret because i ve unlocked bootloader!! And now BE is not working anymore.

[Q] Stuck in Bootloop - Pls help

I have a rooted ZL with a stock rom. Today I got an update for some Sony app (forget which one) and I tried to integrate it into the rom using Titanium BU. That seemed to fail and Titanium just kept on trying. So, I turned the phone off and tried to start it back up again. Now I'm stuck in a loop. It gets to the SONY logo and then starts again.
I've read through some of the other boot loop posts here and I tried a few things already. I've tried the reset button in the back by the SD card. I held it for 10 seconds until I got the second set of vibrations. I tried turning it back on again and I'm still stuck in the loop. I download the companion software (Bridge for Mac. Same as PC companion) and it can't find the device. Actually, at one point in the boot loop it says it is connecting but then shortly after it says no device detected. This cycle continues as the boot loops.
Please, can anybody help me here? Can I flash a new rom seeing as it is rooted? If so, point me in the right direction as I don't know how.

Can you go to recovery...try flashing custom rom...if your unlocked bootloader, try flashing custom kernel as well...try that...
If you have pc companion, you can restore your phone...turn off your phone then press down volume button then connect USB port...then pc will recognize it...then you can restore it...
If pc companion can't do it, try SEUS....

I already said in my original post that I've tried the companion software. I can't get it to recognize the device.
I have tried to boot into recovery mode but am failing. I tried powering on while repeatedly pressing vol up but it just brings up the Sony logo and reboots into the same loop. So, I can't get it to connect to the computer via USB and I can't see how to flash a ROM without being able to get to recovery. Can anybody offer any suggestion other than to throw it away and buy another? I would greatly appreciate it.

SEUS is a little different than pc companion...google it...with it you will be able to restore your phone...
It have step by step on how to restore it to original state...
If you have ftf file and know how to flash it...then your good to go...
Don't repeatedly press the volume button when connecting via USB, when its off, press and hold volume down button while connecting the USB cable, led will turn blue...that's is flash mod...and you will be able to flash ftf file...
It's the same with SEUS when trying to restore it...

Thanks, I'll have to try on my Windows machine when I get home. It's not working on the Mac with the companion software. SEUS is PC only.
I did try connecting while holding the vol down key. I got a quick red led flash followed by a quick green flash, then nothing. No blue, and the computer doesn't see it. I did get the blue led when connecting with the vol up key. But, there is no indication that the computer sees the device.
I'm losing hope here. If I can't get a pc to recognize the device then no companion software or SEUS is going to help. It sucks that you can't hard reset the device without needing to be able to connect to a PC.
Success!
I was able to reload the OS using the SEUS. Big sigh of relief!
Thank you to all that helped. It is greatly appreciated.
