Htcdm.apk is keeping my phone awake ever since the first time I got the update notification, now I know that's the app to freeze to prevent ota updates but I don't see the point of it continuously running if i skipped the update but of course I'm sure they assume you'll take the update and did not bug test. Anyone know a way to stop/freeze the app or at least force close it in Stock? Probably not but just wondering if anyone else having this issue. And yes I did restart the phone and it still runs so that doesn't stop the wake lock

Could under settings apps and force stop it. When you reboot it will start again. If rooted titanium backup can freeze it.

How do I find out which Android process is force closing? It happens every time I restart my phone. It doesn't happen too often but it happens at least once every time I restart. The notification does not say which process, it only says Android process. Sometimes my default keyboard, swiftkey x, is replaced by swype after force closing the Android process. Thanks in advance.
Edit: it actually says the application Android system force closes

That actually means "Android System" is force closing. I know useful right? I don't remember where to get the information that might help figure out why but typically a full wipe and a reflash will take care of it.

yea you may have deleted something thats acting up or maybe you installed something your phone is not happy with. I would try to do as the poster above said or run fix permissions in recovery or Rom Manager and see what happens
Are you on an EL13 build? What is your exact setup? If its EL, I may know why.

Yes I'm on calks 2.5, so I'm on el13. Also I don't mind reflashing and a wipe, but if there is an easier way, I would prefer to do that.

I do know that undervolting was causing a lot of people to have reboots including myself. I reduced it from 75 to 50. Also did you use Titanium Backup to restore data to your apps. That also causes some issues
I have neither manually undervolted my phone nor backed it up using titanium, so i dont think its from that

I was told that the Android System is calling a file that doesn't exist on EL13. Is it only when you power on phone? Strongsteve found it and fixed it on his ROM but I don't have the knowledge to locate it myself. Is 2.5 Calk's latest update? If he has a newer build, you may want to update. Maybe he found it and fixed it as well.

Since installing Calkulin's 2.6 and EL13, Google Maps has been force closing on me after reboots. I'll be watching this in case it's a related issue.
Hey ive had my gs3 since release, but pass couple of days it has froze up , once while just letting it sit and when I went to pick up screen would not come on , it wouldnt even do anything when I plugged charger to it, so I did battery pull and it turned back on like normal, fast forward to today was on phone with wife and noticed the screen would light up but was still able to talk on it, so got off phone and did battery pull again, and powered back on, so does anyone know what could be causing it to do that? And its not rooted.

Rogue app hopefully. Otherwise it could be a hw problem.
If you can, backup your stuff and factory reset (itll wipe int sd too). Then run as bare as you can (no/few apps) to see if it still happens.

Hmm, havent downloaded any new apps in a while, did update flipboard yesterday morning and then this started, gonna uninstall update to flipboard and find an sd card so I can move all my music to it before resetting , hopefully 1 of these works , really dont want a refurbished phone...

After I updated my phone to jelly bean via the root 66 inject method my screen seems to not time out.
I have my display timeout set to 15 seconds and I have smart stay turned on.
My question is did the update do this to my phone or is it possible that something on my phone is keeping my phone awake.
If that's the case how can I solve this problem?

Have you tried with smart stay off?
Make nandroid backup first. Then in app manager try wiping data for settings/settings storage.
If thst doesn't help, then factory reset using cwm or twrp. (Stock recovery will also wipe your internal sd)
It may be that there's some data from before you updated that's causing your problem.

I appreciate the help but It still seems to ignore my timeout settings... guess I'm just gonna have to deal with it while I try and trouble shoot certain apps.
Again thank you for you suggestions

Download extended controls and add toggles Screen always on and stay awake. make sure that both of these are disabled. its a weird bug. I had this problem when I was chraging my phone and the screen would never turn off.
Try fixing permissions in recovery. If that doesn't help, make buckup to external sd and try odin again

I was having this issue with my S3, 100% stock. I tried restarting the phone, power off then power on, hard reset and nothing worked. What did end up working was setting a different timeout than what was selected and going back to the home screen, then I went and changed the timeout duration to the one I wanted, went back to the home screen and then restarted my phone. My phone has been working fine and timing out like it should for the last week and a half.
Sometimes when I get a SMS my screen won't turn off. Only started to happen after JB.

On all JB roms I get a wake lock that I can not stop unless I reset my phone it will go away for a few hours then come back anyone else get this? And if so did u resolve it?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
very strange, I would say to ODIN back to stock and then root to JB again and see if it continues. Sometimes flashing everything clean like that cleans up any issues. Also could it be a certain app that you are installing?
So I have been having some random reboots and my phone has been freezing and wont turn off unless I pull the battery. I am completely stock only rooted I have never flashed a rom on this device either. I dont know what could be causing these problems the only root apps I have is super user and wifi there. Anyone have any thoughts please chim in. Thank you.
P.S. I have done 2 factory resets as well

Define "factory reset". If you have truly reset all the software, then it must be hardware, in which case, time to visit a Sprint store.
Reset through recovery wiped everything 3 times

I was using Juice Defender and this was causing my reboot and unstalled it and reflash the MA7 return to stock Rom and my problems have been solved. In my case it was software or some tweak that I did that caused my problem. My phone has not restarted ever since this has been 5 hours.
