Hey ive had my gs3 since release, but pass couple of days it has froze up , once while just letting it sit and when I went to pick up screen would not come on , it wouldnt even do anything when I plugged charger to it, so I did battery pull and it turned back on like normal, fast forward to today was on phone with wife and noticed the screen would light up but was still able to talk on it, so got off phone and did battery pull again, and powered back on, so does anyone know what could be causing it to do that? And its not rooted.

Rogue app hopefully. Otherwise it could be a hw problem.
If you can, backup your stuff and factory reset (itll wipe int sd too). Then run as bare as you can (no/few apps) to see if it still happens.

Phone have been freezing on me lately some apps freeze n dont open at all i even kill them wit task manager included on the phone and i also clear the ram to refresh the apps n that doesnt fix it , and yesterday my phone totally froze when i went to my text message and slide the contact make a call but the phone froze on the call screen n had to do a battery pull to fix it. n the weird thing too is that i had 60% before i pull the battery n after i did that i restart the phone n the battery was down to 25% witch it was weird.
My question here is that i brought this phone from ebay BRAND NEW SEAL N EVRYTHING. phone didnt have this problem the first two weeks it work perfect n now its happening every other day where it freezes, where its getting annoying. if i take it to sprint will they replace it for me n give me a new one...
Not sure if its the device i have that is the problem..because i seriously dont wanna keep it if its stays this way i spend to much money for this.. (And by the way im stock not rooted)

Lately I've been really annoyed with phone, for some reason it just randomly reboots for God knows what reasons! Is this common or even a known issue ?
Are you running stock or a custom rom and kernel? I've never had a reboot with stock or on Starburst with lostkernel.

I dunno man, if that isn't happening without some 'aftermarket modifications', umm, I'd swap the damn phone. That isn't normal. I never get reboots unless I am overclocking on perf gov with everything maxed out...and that's pretty much it. If you are getting reboots just sitting there or dicking around on the internet that would be more than enough reason for me to take it in and swap it out...especially if you can reproduce the it for them.
Thanks for the replies guys, to answer your questions no I'm completely stock running stock kernel and it happens whenever I'm online or some apps will trigger it. I'd hate to restore but I think it's the only way
Ive had it a couple times.
It started after uploading app from market installing it while I was deleting one at same time
device crashed reboot took place.
From that point a had a couple reboots within days Touchwiz error displaying automatically going to phone keypad no escape from it.
I ended up doing factory reset fixed it all is well
did you by chance take an SD card out if another phone and pop it into that phone? if so, back up whatever data is on it, and try formatting it (if that cures the reboots, obviously something on the sd is corrupt and not cooperating with the system... dont restore anything from that backup you took after formatting) I would then try a facotry reset if the previous doesn't work. if the factory reset doesn't cure it, I'd swap the phone.

Thanks guys, I installed all the apps I could to the sd card. In other words all the apps were in the internal memory and that seems to fix the issue.
I'm not rooted and I'm getting random reboots.
Swyped from my Samsung Galaxy SII EPIC 4g Touch on XDA Premium!
I just had another crash replying to a post here using tapatalk. The keyboard had small pink corruptions as if video memory had an issue.
I pulled the battery for about 10 seconds, tried to turn it back on. No dice. I tried again except pulled the sim as well, that worked.
Maybe some of us having crashes are sim related?

I've had to do a second battery pull today. Phone locks up then about 5 seconds later the display goes dark. Not fun.

I froze twice in the past three days. I was using hand cent and browsing. The battery had to be pulled in order for restart.

Yesterday I noticed GetJar was keeping the device awake (in battery stats), but otherwise it was responsive and all good. I uninstalled GetJar and rebooted for good measure. It powered down fine, but wouldn't power back up. I had to pull the battery.
My first 'battery pull' so far!
I had my first crash today while I was replying to an SMS message. The screen produced these broken specs of green.
I couldn't exit from the SMS, eventually the screen turned itself off and then nothing.
I had to perform a battery pull to fix.
When the phone booted back up ICS complained that the launcher had crashed.
Instead of clicking 'stop' I clicked 'wait'.
Phone returned to normal after that.

Did you guys restore old apps/app data from your previous Android device? If so, factory reset and START FRESH.
I can't count the people I know that had issues all stubbornly because they refused to start fresh from a new device.

I didn't use a restore. I just added my Google account and let the phone download my apps that I more or less had from my Nexus One.
Is that OK to do?
Or should I have done something else??
Let me know, Thanks.

This is how it works. When you login all the apps install automatically.
I just noticed this morning that a bunch of apps I had uninstalled already on my GN automatically reinstalled. Odd right?

If you have "force 2d rendering" checked in the developer settings, that will cause many issues.

I don't have any dev options on. I'm basically seeing what others are. Lockup, sometimes with screen corruption, then the display eventually goes black some short amount of time afterward. Battery pull required. I thought it may be heat related at one time but it has happened when the device was relatively cool. Seems like a software driver issue that can hopefully be addressed.

So I noticed this a few days ago. I have the screen set to time out after 30 seconds. It will work for a while and then it will no longer time out. If i reboot the phone everything goes back to working order. Ive tried this with and without smart stay on and got the same results. I do not have any applications installed that would cause the screen not to time out, plus it works from time to time. Any ideas as to why it may be doing this?
This has been happening to me lately too... Don't really know what could it be.

Yes I'd also like to know as it is a bit annoying and killing my battery if I dont catch it!
This used to happen to me too. I even returned phone and it started happening again. This seems to be a bug. I flashed a new rom and it never happened again

I have a Note II that is around three months old. The battery would last around 1.5 days with normal usage.
Then, about a week ago, I noticed that it was not even lasting a day. Often 'media' uses more battery than the screen, which I have never seen before.
Last night, I fully charged it to 100%. I woke up 7 hours later and took the screenshot below - 49%! 51% used in 7 hours standby time. This cannot be right? Surely? I have noticed something going on with my SD card, where when I unlock the phone, it "prepares" the SD card. I had not seen this before.
Also, a strange phenomenon occurs where when I delete an app, it leaves a hole/gap in it's folder. (see screenshot 2). I cannot get rid of it. Any ideas?
Having the same problem. Mine used to get almost 2 days and after the latest OTA update "Media" seems to be using a ton of power. It seems to be related to scanning the media files. When I try to force stop the app, it just restarts itself. I thought maybe it was a bad SD card, so I tried a fresh one, but the problem is still there. Any ideas if this was introduced in the update and whether or not we can stop the process. I am not rooted on stock ROM.

Download media scan root from play store. It will disable media scan and you can re enable it with just a click If you have new media files. But root is required for this app.
Alternatively if you do not have root. Try format the sd card. It might solve the problem a while but not sure why it comes back again. It s a known issue for jellybean

I have not, no. I am not rooted and personally do not want to be. It sounds like this is a fairly widespread issue. I will talk to Samsung and hopefully get a replacement or refund. No way that I paid $1000 for a phone that only lasts 12 hours.
Thanks for your help.

Are you also on 4.1.2 like bwallis?
Nope, still on 4.1.1.
Also, Google+ is now using a fair amount of battery too, usually around 10%. Strange when I don't actually use G+...
I tried a new freshly formatted SD card and today I am at 70% after about 12 hours. This is what I was getting before the upgrade. Will keep everyone posted if it happens again. Before the new card I also noticed the system was unmounting and remounting the card frequently. I am sure this is what was causing the rescans. It was only 2 months old so perhaps the card was bad.
