The HTC TyTN II had a 3.1 megapixel camera and the HTC Touch Pro2 has a 3.2 mexapixel camera. Not a big difference but the pictures should at least be a little later. In point of fact, though, they're not. The HTC Touch Pro2's camera app seems to only support pictures up to 2045x1216 big whereas the HTC TyTN II does pictures up to 2048x1536.
My question is... how can I increase the resolution? If the spec sheets are correct, the hardware supports higher resolutions, even if the software doesn't.
I don't know how well it works, but you can give this a try:

if that doesn't work there is also this:

You might find this an interesting and helpful read:

Seems like those most likely make it so instead of stitching a panorama from three pictures you stitch it from six, or some such?

go to your camera settings and switch the widescreen to off. that will make the resolution 2048x1536
Some people say that certain kernels will change the MP out put of your camera from 8mp to 3mp...is that true? If so how do you tell what your camera is outputting in picture quality?

Almost all of the newer, actively developed kernels have completely eliminated this. You can tell because the images will be about half the size/quality of normal pics. You can see whether or not the mp is available in the camera options, also.

so 13mpx is crap ?
The 13mp camera is not available for the Canadian market. Though you shouldn't worry because people have noticed no noticeable difference between the 8 and 13 my cameras. You can buy the unlocked E973 no contract for $550 brand new or just walk into any Bell store and buy a locked one for $0.

Have the answer to your questions
Hi Guys, New to this forum.
I can answer your questions regarding the E973 and F180 as i have many in stock and have been selling them on youtub, ebay and soon to be amazon and a webstore.
I was using the F180L with 13Mp camera and I'm now using Canadian version E973 with 8Mp camera.. There isnt much difference, however the 13mp version is slightly better detailed and especially when zooming in.
If you want an F180 or E973/E970/E971 one drop me a message. Unlike most people I don't ripp people off. I make an honest profit.
Both great phone nonetheless.
hi guys,
im not photographer , but today when i compare my HOX with SGS3 result made me upset a bit .
tried under the different lighting positions , all were good with SGS3.
have been using for 2 years IncredibleS , pics were much better than HOX .
any ideas agree or disagree wit me ?
Hox has very good camera module, you need to play a bit with settings. On auto sometimes it's crappy.

You shouldn't use widescreen mode in widescreen mode you don't have 8mpx you will have just 6 mpx set sharpness to -1 and iso to 100 and this should be the best config for the hox

Personally i'm using sharpness -2, iso & exposure depends on situation and after photo is taken i'm correcting white balance (not always) in editor (because in camera options htc didn't include all AWB settings :<). Photos are grainy but there is a lot of details... overall it's a decent shooter with really clever interface.
I'm a real photographer in real life.. and I always play a lot with my toy camera a.k.a LOMO that still using negative as module.. and what I saw here is modern people style thinking.. my friend, my sensei(teacher) tell me this.. 'a good photo come from a good photographer, not a good camera'.. just use iyapota mod..
and here is sunny day configuration,,
exp = +1
cont = +2
Sat = +1
sharp = +1
ISO = 'it sunny, so test it with low iso 1st and make sure when you are using camera, turn you phone brightness to max so you can see if the photo failed'
Hope this help a little.. For night or dark.. we need a better sensor to focus.. so I always bring torch with me so I can light up subject for focusing before I snap.
shouldnt i select widescreen ?

It all up to you.. it doesn't matter wide or not.. I always use wide.. just make sure you shooting with correct light sources.. that actually what every photographer should know.. low light will giving you a great picture sometime with our f2.0 aperture but any picture still need correct light value to light up photo.. So keep try to find a good and compatible setting for you need. And don't compare picture when it still in phone.. better use pc to see the real quality of a picture. And you need to love the camera so you can learn to use it. Here some sample.
Auto Mode
Sunset Mode
Low Light Panorama
HDR
Or just head to this Thread to see how great our camera if we know how to use it well
Hope it help you.

Are you sure about this? The many comparisons I have seen online always show the One X having deeper colours and less noise in low light. Pictures taking on the S3 seem a little... bland.

My last phone was an IncS and I have to say the HOX outperforms it. While the megapixels are the same, the quality of the lens is better and the image chip in the HOX is better and produces better photos.
Regardless, if I need to take any photos, I use my dslr.

I Agree. I think anything over 8MP will only look good on big screens such as TV's. Have a look at this: http://gizmodo.com/5888552/reminder-megapixels-dont-matter

Yup! Correct! It actually need to base on our purpose 1st before saying it is good or not.. Let me give you a situation.. You need to snap 100 of people in one picture.. And you'll need to use a higher mp so when we try to zooming closer when viewing in pc or media viewer it will not have distort face..

Exactly. All that matters is a bigger lens to capture more light, type of sensor and focal ratio
Desire hd camera IS THE BEST HTC has made to date it leaves the hox dragging behind faraway with it image processor and fast shutter ( nobody cares about how fast they take the shot HTC but rather the end result picture quality)

Hello everyone,
I've been trying out a few camera apps and on two of them it showed the MP my camera was on and they both said 3.2 instead of the 5 mp it should normally be.. One of the apps is ProCapture, I've been messing around with the settings a bit, but i can't seem to get it to 5 mp?
I'm really confused and I wonder how I can fix this?
Cheers

You have to buy the full version for full resolution. I know that the ProCapture free version is just a demo with limited res so you can see all the feature but at low res.
(According the the apps info. I haven't bought the full version so I can't confirm it will be 5mp but safe to assumed it will be)

Note that the default 16:9 ratio doesn't use the full sensor and is 3.7mp. switching wide-screen off give the 'full' 5mp.
Ok, thanks alot guys. Are there any camera apps you use that you find give you "better" or sharper quality pictures? Because with my stock camera it seems to be a bit random..
